Ministry lost a lot when Paul Barker left. I generally found Ministry's music a little fast for my tastes, so this album was right in the sweet spot for me. Droney, dirgy sludge with surprisingly clever lyrics and deceptively beautiful and layered production.

A thousand... keep the fires and flames alive
So how the fuck do I dream at night?
With the memories of a borrowed death, the guilty tide
    Filth pig, filth pig
He sleeps with both eyes open
    Filth pig, filth pig
He sleeps all right because he's a
    Filth pig

I remember reading an interview with Al where he talked about how Filth Pig was slow to the core and had no “industrial shit.” It prepared for one of the most unconventional follow-ups to a platinum metal record this side of Angel Dust…!

it may be slow but is not felt like doom. It doesn't evoke a sense of despair, dread, and impending doom. It is angry

I grew up with a half Polish, half American friend who bought this album as a 13-year old when it came out 27 years ago. He just said: "I only bought it because I read in some hit parade magazine that they "sound like white zombie... And then it ended up sounding like some extremely woozy blurry xanax b version of white zombie"
