Lyrics:
Free fall through our midnight
This epilogue of our own fable
Heedless in our slumber
Floating nescient we
Free fall through this boundlessness
This madness
Of our own making
Falling isn't flying
Floating isn't infinite
Come, our end, suddenly
All hail our lethargy
Concede suddenly
To the quickened dissolution
Pray we mitigate the ruin
Calling all to arms and order
Drifting through this boundlessness
This madness of our own making
Sound our dire reveille
Rouse all from our apathy
Lest we
Cease to be
Stir us from our
Wanton slumber
Mitigate our ruin
Call us all to arms and order
Sound the dread alarm
Through our primal body
Sound the reveille
To be or not to be
Rise
Stay the grand finale
Stay the reading of our swan song and epilogue
One drive to stay alive
It's elementary
Muster every fiber

Stay alive
Stir us from our
Wanton slumber
Mitigate our ruin

That sense of relief when you are deep into a Tool song, check to see how much time is left, and there is still 8 minutes.
9 for me 😆
Amazing innit
This is the best track on the album.
I feel 7empest is the best song on the album. The solo in this song though is well worth the 10 minute wait to hear...
Its like waking up ealier than youre alarm and see there is is still precious minutes left
Tool is the only band that can have a 13 minute song that isn't long enough.

This album helped me find strength. It really did. Depression sucks, suicidal thoughts suck, but whathever happens I will NOT die on my knees. I will fight this battle for as long as I can, I will be brave and I will not surrender. I will not give up, because that's the path I've chosen and my fear will not lead me astray.
This album was basically both my sword and my shield through some of the hardest times of my life.
Well put,keep going!
No truer words spoken, Brother/sister.
It's an on going battle. It's okay to get tired and take a rest. But there comes a time when you have to dig yourself out of the hell you're in, and scream violently defiant, and tell all of it that you will NOT BACK DOWN. You REFUSE to accept the shit surrounding you. Get the fuck up, Dust yourself off. If you need to break shit that no longer serves you, then just fucking do it.
Get mad.
Break those god damned chains. Spread those scorched wings, and keep screaming, until your focused. By then, you'll have the attention and fear you need. Now breathe again.
Fight your ass off. You got this, my dude.
Psychedelics helped me with suicidal thoughts. I used to have them REALLY bad. Don’t give up, good luck.
i love you
This band is connected to some kind of force most people aren't aware of. I' m grateful that they share it with us thru their music.
I'm grateful to share the same positivity ...tool is letting go some good vibes ... especially the new stuff
Been experiencing Tool since the mid 90's and it never gets old. Keep fucking rocking!
@Daniel Schroeder man I don't even believe in God but you guys are definitely right
Perfecty said!!!!!!
Last part of this ballad is a loss for words
When Danny hit the gong it rearranged my molecules.
It realigned my chakras and all that shit. I'm in heaven.

OMG i had the same sensation... it's amazing every day more than before
I cant stop listening to it and i was one of the first 2 hours listeners
It really does.
I was GREATLY dissapointed when I first heard it ..........I thought my heroes lost their mojo......but,u know....hearing it over and over....it's getting amazing really fast... now it sounds like crimson meets zepplin for the ultimate showdown..
Thank you to the dude who mentioned *TOOL* to me on a bus ride in *COSTA RICA* to me in *2007*.
He asked me if I knew them, to which I said, "No". He said, "Look them up, they are a 4 piece band in which each member is the best in the world at what they do. It's almost a miracle that they found each other, sort of like Led Zeppelin". Thanks bro, it changed my life. 🤙
Same goes for the band CAN. They're the greatest of all time. Tago Mago album will blow your mind in places. Discovered them after eventually getting bored of listening to Tool.
I'm 56. I've listened to a hell of a lot of music in my time. Tool is a game changer. This band just takes it to another level. This song is a masterpiece. Hell, all of their songs are.
I’m 48, and knew of tool for many years but I never really opened my mind to them. Just this past month I’ve been infatuated with this band, my favorite band at the moment is definitely tool. Crazy amazing.
Danny Carey actually had three years of Music studies in conservatory percussion and drums at the University of Missouri Kansas City he was basically just a year away from a degree when he dropped out and moved out to LA. My drum teacher had classes with him
The lyrics in each album tell a story
yeah, especially "message to Harry Manback" absolutely incredible, riveting, MOVING indeed...
*(jk btw lol I actually love tool, one of my all time fav bands, I mentioned that song as a joke..I love their sense of humor same as the whole transcending message of hope as well. Both are important!)*
Stupid shit 😊
Regular bands plug into amps.
Tool plugs into the universe.
And it’s beautiful.
Jesse Taylor Well said!

It’s beautiful
I think Justin uses a supermassive black hole as a bass amp.

This song is EPIC...That guitar riff! Best song on the album
i agree
Loving Pneuma too
@@NeutralGravity Yes! Pneuma, Descending, and 7empest are the 3 best tracks on the album.
@@PlastisinNightmare They are all awesome but this one stands out so far.
You guys are sleeping on Invincible.. Amazing song. That and this one are my favorites.
They aged like fine wine on this album. They relaxed a bit and are just jamming. Yet no other band sounds like this. They have a very distinctive sound and they have mastered greatness.
No one even comes close to tool, a league of their own and should be defined as their own genre at this point
Very rare for a band to put out what is arguably their best album this late in their career. But they have pulled it off.
@@dh8148 This!!!!!
@@aspjake123 And to do it with just 4 songs IMO. Fear Inoculum the song is okay, but this is really an album with a little filler and 4 epic songs. Pneuma, Invincible, Descending, and 7empest. They all bring something different but yet it's totally TOOL. It's almost too hard to take sometimes. This band is ethereal.
Didn't really look at it your way but I see what you mean... Interesting.

@@joelescamilla918 i wouldn't be surprised if they fucked everyones heads up and had a new album in 2 years. It just seems so tool to troll people to that degree. Wishful thinking...
Is there a single song by this amazing band that cannot be chosen as a favorite? The truth is that each song represents a unique cosmos of sound. Each song is a universe, both musically and lyrically. This, in turn, means that the entire discography of TOOL is nothing less than a multiverse, full of power, energy and passion. There is always something new to discover, even when you think you've heard it all. It is like an endless journey of discovery.
TOOL's music transcends the ordinary boundaries of musical genres, creating an immersive experience that captivates and engages the listener on multiple levels. Each track is meticulously crafted, with layers of complexity that reveal themselves upon repeated listens. This complexity makes their music not just a collection of songs but a profound auditory exploration.
From the intricate rhythms and time signatures to the deeply philosophical and introspective lyrics, every aspect of TOOL’s music invites introspection and reflection. The band’s ability to blend technical prowess with emotional depth creates a powerful and transformative experience.
In a world where the superficial often overshadows the profound, TOOL stands as a beacon of artistic integrity and depth. Their music encourages listeners to look inward, to confront their inner thoughts and feelings, and to emerge with a deeper understanding of themselves and the world around them. This is why, in the realm of music, TOOL's work is not merely entertainment; it is an essential journey into the depths of human experience.
As a psychologist, I even have to say that their music should be used in therapy - it is this very quality that makes their entire discography a therapeutic TOOL (!), capable of providing solace and insight. (19/6/2024)
10:34 mark is the absolute pinnacle climax musically. Some of Adam's best guitar work ever.

I am a HARD CORE Tool fan. Have been for nearly 30 years. Absolutely love every song they've ever put out. Descending may just be their best song. It certainly is a 12 on a 10 scale! I don't say this lightly. They've improved with each album. Having witnessed their musical progression to perfection has truly been a gift from the universe. We are indeed fortunate to have been part of this experience.

The Grudge is kind of a mediocre track IMO. also a 20+ year fan of Tool just wracking my brain to think of a song that's not awesome.
Even grudge isn't really too bad but all of tool's shit is pretty much like "wait. It'll get awesome" and if you don't ""get it it" whatevs.
The grudge is the most like that
The desperate way he says "STAY ALIVE!" gets me every time I hear it.

You're not the only one man, this song does the same thing to me. Idk what it is about Fear Innoculum, but it brings me to tears every time I listen to this album. It's like Tool tapped into some spiritual force when recording this album, no other band evokes these kinds of emotions in me. I am a huge fan of King Crimson's "Discipline" album, and to me "Fear Inoculum" is the modern-day "Discipline". Tool has always took KC's blueprint of repetitive, hypnotic, math-rock riffs from that record and adapted/expanded it to their modern sound, but "Fear Inoculum" just takes it to another level. What a time to be alive as a fan of music.

completely agree. Also something fascinating this album has and other Tool albums don't is the atmosphere, it's much more atmospheric than the other albums (which are still amazing but in their own way), also Fear Inoculum somehow feels a bit futuristic at least to me.
I so agree, this peice of Art is simply amazing
I agree
Not to be this guy.. but I disagree. This album as a hole cannot be listened to seamlessly like, lateralus, undertow, or 10,000 fists. If you listen to this album from start to finish it doesn't have the continuity that their previous albums have. If your ears like that, that's fine, but mine don't and I miss that. This is just my opinion.
@@TheArrow1987 well the album art ties it all together in my perception. Massive reference to multiple previous albums. Maybe I'll finally get around to making content about that soon, when no one cares because they're not trying to watch youtube and heat their homes at the same time.

This song can make me cry by the encouragement it sends and the sheer intensity of the instrumental. Best TOOL song ever
Tool’s music always sounded to me like a soundtrack for going back to the origin of humans, nature and the universe. There is something so primitive, but peaceful in their songs.
And the new album is so beautifully epic - a spiritual journey!

This is probably one of the best songs, if not the best song of all time if you truly dig into the lyrics and truly understand them.
It's a great song...and I almost agree with you, but 'Right in Two' has that mantle IMO. That song is just mind blowing in so many ways, but the lyrics are what makes it
@@amccall3066 Agreed. It's Maynard's most 'on the button' lyrics.
I was very much pleased with fear inoculum, great album, but as far as their "best" song, their coup de grace, Tool's magnum opus, for me it's ALWAYS gonna be the 3-part "disposition/reflection/triad" off the album lateralus....
I know some agree with me, some say I'm full of shit 😂
but for me personally, THAT'S the best thing tool ever produced. I know many feel that wings for Marie/10,000 days was them at their best, their finest hour. And yeah good god those lyrics, such a profound and moving tribute and dedication to Maynard's mother..

Everything gets better with age!
This is slowly but surely becoming my absolute favourite TOOL song. It's epic and majestic beyond words, its grandiosity can't be overstated. No, it's not "heavy" or crazy in any way, because it doesn't need to be. It's telling a story about survival, about going to the depths of the abyss to confront our demons. "Mobilize, stay alive!". It's a deep, primal, and fundamental story about our very existence. The instrumental buildup towards the epic end is unlike anything I've ever heard in my life.
I’m there with you!! This is the best tool album. It grows on you too. 6 songs of pure ecstasy!! Best album as of right now.
And best guitar solo in Tool history!
Carl Jung rears his head again with metaphor. Maynard is the best song writer. He can be subtle or blunt while also sticking to the main theme of tool. Allegory. Tool is our tool. They're art is our strength.
In the buildup, when the guitar comes in screaming... I can’t get enough of it. It gives me emotions every single time I hear it..
Yeah this is the best one on the album for me. The build up and the payoff is amazing, and you get TWO. First the lyrical one than the instrumental one. Amazing!
Listening to the whole Fear Inoculum album feels like a psychedelic meditation sweeping me from 60's prog space/acid rock to modern day.
Earphones, smoothie, puff or two, forest, run, excercise, breathe, talk to yoursef. The dread alarm does its job every time, there is so much power in this song.

@@kenbray5682 I really can't pick one without feeling bad haha
Nost Boiz I hear ya ! Lol.. Although I do listen to Sober an awful lot....
It's hard to pick a favorite. They worked hard on all of their songs.
but what would you say if one of your children was Lateralus?
It’s not often a song gives me goosebumps. What a stunning masterpiece. This is a tune to be sure.
My favorite, besides Jambi
Every living thing on this planet is temporary, this band has always helped to remind me that I must soak in as much beauty as possible in this fleeting time.
This album is a real grower. I forgot how tool did that. How incredible.
I see a lot of your comments on Lanegan songs... We both like the same. Cheers brother \m/
@@vinyldiary6664 that's awesome mate. Handshake across the internet!
@@vinyldiary6664 I met mark a few years ago his show in Bristol UK. I was so blown away I think I said something dumb like 'cheers for the tunes' or something! He was so chilled and his wife was all smiles! Cool guy man
They're a grower, not a shower! 😂😂😂
All of their albums are like that for me. You cant judge them until multiple close listenings. A Perfect Circle was the same way for me. At first I was like “oh this is pretty good, nothing incredible though.” Then like a month later I’m absolutely loving all of it.
Descending alone was worth the 13 year wait 🤘 welcome back tool, this album sits perfectly and proudly within their discography as yet another masterpiece
Hearing it live was even better than this, especially, “the riff”.
This track has haunted me from the first listen. I'll be studying this one for a long time.

That's exactly what I have always thought. They've been here through my darkest days of my life

See them live, it's an experience of a lifetime.
Especially this song.
Nobody moshes or crowd surfs, majority put away their cellphones, and experiences the show in awe.
The entire album feels like a push for white hot optimism. A purging of fear and an embrace of love and truth. It’s in the title of the album even.
@@molasorrosalom4846 i saw them in march. pretty good.
I always forget how psychedelic Tool actually is, the soundscape feels like it is hovering above the waters of life. I can imagine just closing my eyes and seeing a slideshow of images of humanity.
and nobody ever did it like them
this song makes me feel like I'm in the future riding a space ship with this playing
Maynard's voice has aged like a fine wine.
I like what you did there...
Locked up in a barrel in the cellar.
@@randallN-sw6ee I wouldnt say exactly the same. He has evolved a bit vocally but he has the same range and strength of voice he's always had. Basically he hasn't lost anything from what he used to have but he most assuredly added to his vocal skill.

Ironic that he has his own winery
Best comment here by now 😂😂
This should be the hold music for suicide prevention hotlines.
if you die, then you can't experience TOOL.
Brilliant
@@mightyquinn38 Which would suck, because Tool is life.
That’s actually really good idea! People would want to live to hear this!
Just a little creature comfort goes a long way
I'm 102 years old, I just discovered tool and feel like I really missed out by discovering them this late in life. My grandfather just passed away at the age of 155 and this album helped me cope with that loss
The whole thing sucked. It's why my mum died
i'm 330 years old and i can relate to this, my late mother Florence Nightingale loved TOOL so this song really hits hard, greetings from the afterlife brother
im 103 years old and my mum died from sudden infant death syndrome. RIP!
Keep rocking old man! 🤘😎🤘
you can catch up
14 minutes of another level of musical perfection! 😊😎
Now, I'm only 15, and I was introduced to TooL by my family, was raised on it, but I never really got it. Don't get me wrong, I LOVED the music, no doubt about it. I had major respect for everyone in the band and I listened to their songs, loving every second. I knew the lyrics. but I never UNDERSTOOD them. But this song man, this song. I was halfway through, and it just hit me, everything at once. I teared up, no other band or song can make me feel this way, this meaning, this beauty and this tragedy. This primordial cycle of life and death. This meaningless, yet inspiring universe that we are just a spec in, the grand scale of it all! to all of you who have been wating for this album for almost as long as I've been alive, I can finally say this with certainty,
This song and every other from this album
is a fucking masterpiece
Amen.
You're very smart at such a young age. Stay blessed..
Holy crap, you described EXACTLY how this song makes me feel.
So happy other members of the youth take in substantial music the way you do.
I'm turning 18 next month . 4 years with mostly always Tool , they have a song for anything. i've lost both of my gramps and i listened near all the albums. they blesses the humans soul and brings peace to the mind. keep going little buddy. you will understand them some time later.
I can't be the only one who was sitting breathless during the guitar solos
@Conflux the guitar solo is...sounds good to me lol (you're right)
you're not
Not at all. Mesmerizing.
My body forgot how to function
David San i mean, i was sitting breathless through the whole album.
So many chills from this song, that I feel I’m starting an ice age. The feeling I get listening to this is so immense and beautiful. 10:54 is like a monument of sound, a materializing in the sky, a supernova. The progression before it is like an evolution through the universe and just culminates so unbelievably well. I feel as though Maynard is reading from distant scriptures and ancient times, almost pleading for the entire human race to hear this message. He has such a way of making you actually feel the words he’s singing. It transcends just simply hearing. I’ve never really found this with anyone else. I feel TOOL has been at a prophetic level with this album and is ringing more true as the days go by. It heightens my awareness of the world, but at the same time just takes me away. Forever grateful for this music and chance to be alive.
oh god yes
Agreed 👍
Beautiful comment
Tool music is a favorite of mine. I turn up the volume on Descending all the time because of the instrumental arrangement. The vocals are so artistic.
Most of the lyrics of this album were written by me in letters to the band. Of course Maynard is the ultimate master of lyricism so he worked it his way which was perfect by the way because tool is perfect because I created tool when I was in 6th grade in the '80s as a band idea using the pentagram and I said the musicians would be perfect because I am perfect and I am tool. Enjoy
The last 6 mins of this track is mesmerizing. Maybe the best these guys have ever created. Classic Tool sound with plenty of evidence of how they've evolves as musicians.
Sorry you didn't make it to release day, Cole. I hope you can listen from beyond. I miss you man. Rest easy.
R.I.P ❤ 🙏
Sorry for your loss, man. In many years, you can both jam to it. Blessed be
Sorry to hear you lost someone who didn't get to hear this beautiful music.
My condolences, my friend. My best friend that introduced me to Tool didn't live to see this day either. Here's to them, and all the others on the other side of the veil ❤️
Noah Collingwood shit I read this during the climax of the song and fucking cried. I’m sorry for your loss my friend
Tool songs are not songs, they are experiences, every single one of them. Pure art.
STG. THIS HAS BECOME MY FAV TRACK OFF OF THE ALBUM. I LISTEN TO IT THE MOST. IT ALL STARTED WITH A LSD TRIP. THIS SONG WOKE ME UP. MADE ME CRY AS HE SUNG "MOBILIZE STAY ALIVE"
Amen!
They really hit the primal instincts and emotions. The battle drums, the riffs, the tempo, the lyrics and the melody woven together perfectly and takes you on an unexpected journey with so many different layers that tell a thousand stories. This is why this never gets old. It's simply a beautiful masterpiece. There aren't many songs out there that bring so much emotion and energy.

This is a ride, you can go as deep as you can handle, but the band controls the speed. Exceptional in every way and at the forefront of evolution.
The vocals are like another musical instrument
Let it be known that the vocal effect used in this song is to originally be found in abundance throughout Camel's Moonmadness album: ruclips.net/video/qSslHyK7paY/видео.html and that the best person at making their voice sound like it is another instrument within their music was Damo Suzuki from Can: ruclips.net/video/qKpCKBfazX8/видео.html Would not have ever listened to these bands if not for 1st getting into Tool, so hey...
@@PEGGLORE I was just listening to Moonmadness the other day ;p

Wasn't too bothered about seeing it at the time, but my friend bought the tickets, saying it's Camel and we have to go to it, so we did. I believe the whole concert must be available to purchase now on DVD, as here is a sneak preview of it on RUclips. Noticed that the keyboard player for them here is blind which was unexpected. Hi Tool fans around the globe, I'm from Malaysia and English is my second language. I'd have to say, Tool helps me expand my vocabulary. This song itself, introduced me to 2 new words: nescient & reveille. Haha thanks Tool!!!

Welcome. Your English is very good. Don't worry. Maynard/Tool use some words that most of us native speakers don't even use in a lifetime..😀
Im sure the majority of english speakers that dont listen to tool dont know these words either
Reveille is French.

Faith in humanity restored
There are few better times in life, than when you play Metallicas One or a tool song and when it ends, your 3 year old says excitedly "do it again, dad".
My son is 2. Was playing this recently, when he started bopping up n down and grinning. Asked him after the song if he wanted to hear it again (he "danced" through the entire song) he replied " 'gain ", while smiling. I love this kid

John Dillinger never heard of tool......heard them ripping into the grudge at oZfest 2001......life changing.....the sad thing is about this song is.....we die.....we don’t want to....or leave pain......it’s, but an interval.
Idk what it is about Fear Innoculum, but it brings me to tears every time I listen to this album (especially this song). It's like Tool tapped into some spiritual force when recording this album, no other band evokes these kinds of emotions in me. Tool is a very special band, others can try to imitate Tool, but Tool is truly a one of a kind band.
The meaning behind the songs of Fear Inoculum is returning to the fundamentals of existence. No propaganda, no fear mongering, no brainwashing. Just primal symmetry, pure existence, and the joy of the spirit.
Pneuma brings tears to my eyes every time. Those lyrics.... that drumming.....
Perfectly spoken.
It took 15 years to write this song. I would hope so.
This is Adam's finest moment. He sounds like the greatest guitar player of all time here. The Dave Gilmour of alt rock: slow it down and play the feels.
Genius.
He's prog just as gilmore
Sounds effortless. So smooth, relaxed yet precise. Beauty.
i actually find him on his weakest here tho, kinda missed him the whole album, this song is clearly the best for him tho, and i fucking love it. this album was clearly danny's masterpiece, and i really like it for that
