Looking forwards to your next search, always been interested in detecting when I in the military, just never had the opportunity to do it as a hobby. I apologize for the noise comment, consider me the exception to the normal viewer. The video content/subject was very informative thanks for posting it...Happy Holidays...
once again , I'm glad to see your health has improved enough to get out Rockhounding, nice finds as well .
Thanks. I was wondering if my days of lone adventures were done. Feels good to be back on my feet.
found that "Mudscoop" appreciate that. imsstarting my first season after 10yrs of studyinggeologyon the side,,,gpx4500,gb2
muck'
@@jdean1851 I have the GPX5000 and a GB Pro. Both good machines, but I am starting to like the Equinox 800 that I originally bought for my wife...as long as the area is not too mineralized.
Great video. I was told my minelab 1000 and GPZ-7000 had too high a frequency and our NV silver too small to find it here. Glad to see you used that 4500 with no problems.
Mine is a GPX5000 with the gold screamer. No complaints
Great video and specimens!! Just got back from a short 2 day trip. One day collecting garnets at River Valley and the other in Cobalt. I found 2 sponge floaters on Nip Hill. Cobalt is fun, love the history and finding silver!!
I hope to be going to River Valley in July. I look forward to your video...
In a way, it is too bad that you did not get up there in May. I had room in the trailer, so you would have had a place to stay. On the other hand, the rain was a downer and bugs were pretty bad. I actually left a day early because of the bugs and it got no better when I stopped to check out places on the way back. They should start clearing up soon (I hope).
tess99991 Bugs were still bad, got eaten up good. May can be a bad time up there due to the biters, fall is actually the best time. Bring a friend to River Valley, its really in the middle of nowhere. Lots of good stuff there!! If you need directions I have them, easy to miss!
Andrew..
I am going to River Valley with the KRFC and the sponsor has been there before. I am looking forward to it. What would be a good idea is to find another spot in the area to also check out. I understand one day at River Valley is enough.
There are lots of outcrops there, you will have no problem finding them. One day is enough for sure!! Enjoy!!
Nice to watch your ISO silver adventure. Never considered poking around for it myself. Very interesting :)
Such a great lesson....Ive never gone to the silver mines,,,,,,YET!!Thanks
This silver series is fantastic!
Thanks. By the way, great profile picture on your channel.
Thanks my youngest
Wowzer I know this is an old video but congratulations on your big chunk of silver its real pretty.
The study of rocks I’m such a knucklehead I meant geology! Thanks so much , you have inspired me further my education on the subject maybe as a hobby or just for fun . My daughter is now 13 and she and I love to poke around at the Mississippi River and we find all sorts of old glass and interesting rocks . It would be nice to know what kind of rocks we find there! Thanks again MeMiner 👍
It is really nice that you are doing things with your daughter. My girl is now 16. Some of our best memories are from exploring or hunting for stuff.
Okay.. You metal detect also.
This is the perfect RUclips channel.
We share the same passions.
P. S. Get yourself a garrett pro pointer. I love mine over others that I have tried. It vibrates and increases its tone as the tip nears the target.
I've always been great at target retrieval, but I don't know how I lived without it.
I have two Garrett pinpointers. One old black one and a 3 month old carrot. The trick is to have it with me when I need it. LOL
tess99991 lol yep, that helps.
Thanks for the reply me miner that’s awesome and creative I love it!
nice digging man boy that looks like a lot of fun! best of luck cheers Nathan
Thanks Nathan. It was a fair amount of work, but my dog and I loved every minute of it. Next time, I will focus where the rocks are larger, so there is a chance of getting a "beast".
Thank again for answering me about the stain/rust.. interesting. How did you learn so much about rocks did you have some schooling?
I am just interested in it. There is tons on info online that is only a Google away. It also helps to join a club and learn from others with the same interest.
Just curious, just how long do your jeans last. I'll venture a guess 3 to 4 pairs a year??? But that comes with rockhounding doesn't it
what brand is your Yellow pick just wondering from idaho! all great vids!
I bought it from a mining supply (manufacturer) in Northern Ontario. I have not seen anything similar for sale elsewhere. It would probably be expensive to ship one from here.
either have eye
FYI - If I remember correctly the company was called Time in Haileybury, Ontario. Apparently, this design is used in many mines as a mudding shovel. Perhaps, there is something similar available in your area at a mining supply?
I was wondering the same. It is a Muck or Pelican pick. Garant sells them online. Useful looking tool.
Before I started watching Me.Miners videos that's the kind of rock that I would have thrown away. Now I know better👍
I studied a bit and for Iron an Gold its best to use about 100kHz detector...normal VLF detectors for silver and stuff are around 10 kHz...I think that detector with the continious sound is a gold detector and will only have strong signals on GOld and Iron.
Almost any detector will work for silver ore. Each has its strength''s and weakness'. At the end of the day, the best detector is the one you have with you. ;-)
Little hard on the Dungarees, eh? And, I was wondering how is silver ore is first processed? Is it done like coal? Crushed in a rotary breaker or similar, then sent through a wash plant to sort out with a jig and cyclones by specific gravity. Or, some other mechanical magic.
Each plant is probably a bit different depending on the age and rock being processed. All of them now crush to a powder and then extract chemically.
Any recommendations on a pin pointer. Mr Legend of the metals
There are a few good ones out there. When my wife wanted one, I bought her the Garret Carrot. So now I have two.
You said that the miners were confused about the silver being black in color, is silver come in colors? Good video
Silver oxidizes (stains/rusts) black. The vein is not shiny on the surface. It is shiny when broken or rubbed.
Great video i liked it super cool.
Thanks necro!
Yes you have settings. One of them is the bogean settings. Please use them because I can't stand the noise.
Holy moly indeed!
Please figure out a better way to focus your camera. I do so enjoy your videos but would love to enjoy seeing your finds in greater detail. Thanks for the clean-up at the end though so I can see them. 🤓😉😊
I have since changed cameras. In this video, it was a $2,000 Canon DSLR. I think is was the same camera that they filmed Breaking Bad, but those guys obviously knew more about photography than me. It did not have autofocus and I constantly struggled with that...Not for lack of trying. It also was affected by the weather and on this trip I lost some really good video due to fogging inside the camera body. I have switched up to a lower priced and newer model of camera plus a new GoPro, that does auto focus and hopefully will make better video.
tess99991 Thanks for taking the time to reply! I've looked at many, many of your videos, since I found you. Can't wait to see more. Rocks Rule!
Hopefully, you find the more recent videos to be of better quality. I agree, rocks do rule. I cannot wait for spring...
Just wondering what state are you digging in i spend a little time in Arizona and Nevada i am in nw Missouri we have alot of glacial flow!gold!here very fine and flour gold no silver unless it 7s coin or jewelry
These silver mines are in northern Ontario (Canada)
Cobalt? The red.one?? Pretty!
Fantastic specimens.
Thanks Chill Bill. My wife and I love your channel. Highly recommended!
You should come to Canada. We can show you a good time. Perhaps Beau could join us but let me tell you, we will both need a tear rag. LOL
@@meMiner I'm in! When is the best time of year?
Hey, I was just going back through your videos looking for this particular spot! I was wondering which mine this pile of tailings is at? the fine tailings would be easiest for me to detect at and move with my old detector I got. if you don't wanna share your secret spot I understand lol
I have no idea how to direct someone to x marks the spot, without it sounding like a "snipe hunt". Best I can say is drive as far as your vehicle will allow on the road beside Pete Lake, then walk a bit further on what is now an ATV trail and then walk almost to the top of Nip Hill, keeping the new fence (about half way up) on your left. At the last set of tailings (beyond that is just washed rock) walk directly away from the fence (fence at your back) along the tailings. You will know you are in the spot because there is an ore cart at the bottom. Or make friends with Ty and he might show you.
Or find me on Labor Day weekend. I plan on being up.
Thanks so much for the directions! For labor day long weekend I have plans to either dlo Herkimer diamond hunting or head to cobalt, all depends on the wife. if I do head up there I will get in contact for a meet up for sure!
I hear ya. It always "depends on the wife". LOL For me, it will also depend on the weather. I won't go if the prediction is heavy rain everyday. The caution I will give for that spot, is that hillside can get really slippery when wet. Good luck.
so are you heading up to cobalt this weekend? I'm going to be up there on Saturday and Sunday, maybe we could meet at a mine and you can show me where the best silver is lol!
Well,nice finds really!
So I am wondering if you have supposedly a lot of silver ore and as I know the silver ore is a source of some PGMs-mostly palladium(on my opinion it is the most useless of all PGMs but it is still good thing to sell if you have a lot)-and also where you have silver you have gold as a by-product!So what do you think about that?I just would definitely have extracted all that stuff from these rocks beginning with silver and than also would have tried to separate gold and palladium from them(if I was you)!
Yes,maybe I would even have done that by simply melting all the silver so it will come out and then both checked the remaining rocks and also the molten away silver for traces of gold, palladium and PGMs;purified silver using nitric acid and silver chloride method(I anyway like that shit because it is really fast and easy in compare to all the other precious metals refining process)-and mainly would be looking at the difference between the weight of silver molten from ore before putting into nitric and weight of the refined silver smelted from silver chloride-and so I would have known by the colour of remaining solution if it is copper or palladium in there(palladium always gives yellow to brown coloration)..And if there is palladium I would just precipitate it either with DMG or with simple ammonium chloride..
So what do you think about that?)
I had some rocks checked using XRF and the gold content was typically below 2% but sometimes the PGMs were double digit. I had one rock that was 50% PGM and I forgot where I found it. Still bugs me. The original miners only took the silver. They did not see gold in the rocks. They had no interest in PGMs.
@@meMiner yes,I remember you mentioned that rock-really insanely cool find!I think that it should be worth many dozens of thousands of dollars and maybe up to hundred thousands! If we presume that it is 1100-1200 grams of platinum or palladium-it is already 40-50 thousand bucks just in market price and even more than that if in any kind of things made out of it!
So anyway it's at least some gold and PGM content in there which is definitely worth recovering if you have a lot of ore!As I remember 1 gram per kilogram of rock is considered to be ultra high grade ore in Russia at least and for platinum or PGMs it's considered to be unimaginably high grade ore worldwide if there is 1 gram of PGMs per kilogram and so it's worth recovery!
The people who talk about grams per ton are looking for a large deposit for a mine. For a collector or small scale refining, you need really high grade stuff. The refiner with the XRF that I used was interested only if I have 1000 lbs or similar ore.
@@meMiner I guess for me that would not have been such an issue-also besides I need those metals for prototypes..Which I anyway will leave for myself so spending maximum of couple hundred grams won't be in vain😎🤠Plus it will prove the new concept to be possible to build and so as the use of the prototype will not(at least by first stage tests results and also calculations)be thorn apart by the insanely strong propellent I intend to use!So the further production can simply shift to use more of less expensive materials with minimum of such things like iridosmine and also it will be another story..🤠
By the way I now recently noticed in fact how dense, rigid and mainly frictionless the iridosmine is(exactly 90% Ir/10% Os-the stuff which I will use for barrel's lining)-just while playing with a blub made of it!No,really, looks and feels like a thing from another world-it is right around 10 grams(just easier to put together in terms of weighting and calculating)-but it is so tiny for 10 grams and also since it is almost a ball it is sometimes so hard to catch it because it is really very slippery-so the friction between bullet and barrel is really zero!
So anyway I guess that it's worth extraction and also that the guy with XRF is really strange because 4% of 1000 lbs equals 40 lbs=18 kilograms! And that is around 0.18% of the entire country's annual PGM production! And also while 18 kg of raw PGMs sponge after separation has a minimum market value of 700 thousand dollars(Canadian)-and after processing it into something useable like crucibles, sputtering targets, rods and stuff it will be at least 4 to 5 times it's price which is around 3 million dollars-so I guess it should be worth a large effort! And if there is,say,100 lbs instead it is still 300 thousand bucks which is also not quite bad!
And by the way about the PGM mining it is as I know almost entirely made like a by-products of nickel and copper mining and so the quantity is really low but here 4% is worth possibly hiring some Philippinian guys who will bring a plenty of material so that 40 kilograms per tonne will certainly be vastly worth it if they will bring that tonne per week-and this time it will be bringing a lot of money even for a large scale plants and companies🤔
You ever get back there with your minelab?
Not that exact spot but nearby. Turns out the whole area there is pretty good
His MD noise makes my neighbors think I'm watching porn while grilling dinner
I guess it could have been worse, if I had started recording the video shortly after walking up the mountain. LOL
Me: Im ready to watch some guy mine for silver cus that sounds cool
His metal detector: NOOT NOOT NOOT NOOT NOOT NOOT
Thanks again Mr. meMiner! Catchin up on some old vids
Good one!!
What do you do with all that silver , do you sell it or make jewelry
I have made some jewelry. I have also sliced some because I like the look inside. Still, I have a number of larger rocks stacked up waiting to be played with when I get a larger saw or other tools.
All Exiciting Digzzz!
Newbie here.....would the host rock dark or light be considered...idk......lime or dirty lime? jus wondering ...jd
In this area, the silver is usually associated with white calcite/dolomite or a dark grey schist. The area to the north with limestone has no silver.
Glad to hear YOUR BACK ON YOUR FEET, BEEN THERE 8x before 1 to GO", take mms feelbetter! jimhumble.org
Waiting for your next video!!
I just got back from a trip. I will post the adventure(s) soon.
You could use a kneepad, with sandpaper glued to it, or those are your rock pants! Just kidding, great dig & some very nice rocks!
Next time!
enjoyed the video thumbs up gl&hh
Thanks very much! My wife and I are big fans of your channel. I spent two weeks in Scotland a number of years ago and did some detecting. No gold or silver, but had a great time.
That metal detector sounds like a wounded animal I would have one eye out for the bear at all times
My dog Daisy got chased by a big bear a few years ago when I was detecting.
Try your equinox and see how that works. I bet you you will do well especially on the small stuff.
I plan on trying it for the silver. There will be a small learning curve. I also want to use it for gold, especially underwater. Right now, everything is under deep snow, so it will be a few months until I can get out. Until then, cabin fever...
I am mostly a beach hunter here in a Maine USA. The equinox 800 is the best all-around machine I have ever used. The very small gold, silver, aluminum it picks up at quite A depth incredible. I had it was in the right machine when it came out. Now that this equinox 800 has come out it has surpassed 3030 ctx and Out perform it. You could eliminate The iron targets so you don’t have to pick them up anymore. The separation with that machine is incredible picking out iron targets surrounded with iron, works fantastic. It won’t take you long To learn this machine it is pretty straightforward. Good luck I enjoy your shows
I enjoyed the 800 in Aruba and found some gold. I was surprised how easy it was to avoid iron with this machine. I thought I might find chains with it and dug lots of low signals, but alas there needs to be one to find for it to tell you to dig it. It will be interesting to try the 800 in the silver mines where there is lots of junk. A buddy used a 3030 and had some good finds, but I was able to get deeper with the Minelab GPX5000
meMiner It does very well on the beach with small gold chains. Something that the 3030 could never do. I am anxious to hear the results of your test to see how well it works on silver mines. I do not know that much about the 5000 other than it is a Super Gold machine. I have heard someone around here Purchased one for the beaches and always have an excellent results on gold. If you don’t have it yet you need to go to mine lab website and get the instructional manual for the equinox. Here’s the address www.minelab.com/__files/f/326548/4901-0249-1%20Inst.%20Manual,%20EQUINOX%20600%20800%20EN.pdf
It has a wealth of information in it on tuning your machine to get the optimum performance on what you are looking for. It is free and well worth to have a copy.
Also if you have not found this guy yet. calabash digger check out all his videos on the equinox 800. He does lots of tests on different machines. He is very interesting to watch and learn how well the machine works and how to set it up. You will enjoy him.
Could you tell which detector works best?
Almost any detector will work in Cobalt, but I think the more recent, higher end, name brand detectors will perform best.
Cool video, Just subbed
Thanks
NICE!
Thanks. I just found your channel and subscribed. ;-)
Thank you! I am just starting out. I hope to make more videos soon. Fingers crossed the snow melts again. 😉. I really enjoyed watching your video here. How cool to find silver this way. How do you get it assayed?
Your video was sent to me from a friend who lives in Cobalt. Thanks for subscribing. I will do the same.
Thank you!
You would enjoy detecting in Cobalt. I don't bother getting my rocks assayed. You can tell good silver, by the look where the rock is rubbed plus of course the weight or where silver is poking out.
One day I might come there and surprise you! LOL!
Yup!! My name is one this!!
Dammm that thing looks more like an anchor then a Shove/pick loll
Irritating detector sound, should turn off or lower it??? When not actively using equipment......
Good feedback. I hear the noise all day when detecting, so am used to it. It is the threshold and I guess sounds like a mosquito in your ear. However, I am there to metal detect first and video a distant second. Remember that these are amature videos. I turn on the camera when it is handy and I think there is something interesting. The detector has an external speaker with a volume switch. It never occurred to me to turn it down. If I turn it down, I will have to remember to turn it back up. LOL I will keep your comment in mind next year.
fyi? did you know that this is more like the 5th or 6thx ive watched this vid, when I "Personally need some Excellent Exicitement Thanks Again from central Idaho 4k ft. elev. jd
Very nice. Thanks
Silver golf
Do it at night maybe it will glow after reflect the light from torch. Crush it first then pan it like panning a gold. Just share my idea
Thanks for the good ideas. I have tried both a torch and UV lights. Everything is shiny. As for panning or sluicing, it would work but is still more effective to have the detector tell me where the pieces of silver sit.
Mine too
Do you realize your detector says yes yes yes as you wave it over the silver. LOL I live in a gold Provence well gold and copper. North of my state they have silver and tin Provinces. I have some nice silver nuggets got off the surface.
I never thought of it speaking English, but you are right, sometimes it does seem to say "yes". Me too. Do you have pictures or a video of your nuggets?
I know where one nugget is I think. I swapped a few away. I had a bucket of Garnets once. I have a handful left and the same happened to my topaz. I let a bloke take some once only to discover he took every blue one in the bucket.
The same happens to me all the time. I end up giving away too much. I love topaz, especially because I cannot find any. LOL
hard yakka
hard yakka well i never found it myself either. I would see a tin dredge working so i would go over and ask themif i could clean the topas from their riffle boxes. I was never relfused. but later they realised that it was a comodity they could sell.
You should use rubber boots metaldetecting
I am not crazy about wearing rubber boots unless I absolutely have to. I get pretty hot on the walk in.
Well I could hear your boots in the detector...I can't work with steel in my shoes @@meMiner especially when using discrimination you get very odd results
Need a better camera that one isnt not focusing at all for you
It has been replaced. That one could not handle the damp weather and was manual focus.
At 1:47 reminds me of my ex wife. Lol
