FOOD $1/day is possible. 5 yrs ago, my friend and I had lunch at an outdoor market (street stall vendor) in Saigon. We each had a bowl of vermicelli, tops with grill pork, some greens, and 1 eggroll. The total lunch for two was $4,000 Dong = $0.17 Cents USD. The exchange rate was $1 USD = $$24,000 Dong. The stall vendor has 4 small stools(1-foot height) for customers to sit. lol. The food was good. That same bowl in US would have cost about $5.50. Imagine that! My head spins every time I think about it. Best $.17 Cents spent! There are plenty of outdoor market street stall vendors. The smaller the stall vendors, the cheaper it will be.
LOOOOOVE that you were on “My street”, i.e. Chau Thi Vinh Te!!!! The place were you got your after dinner “sweets” is totally bang for your buck and you are so right to mention that she completely accommodates ones requests, whatever these may be :) You guys rule!! thank you so much for blessing us with your awesome, genuine, insightful videos, keep it up!

Hello, from California, US. The noise of karaoke and people activity really make me homesick. I miss Vietnam so much, especially the tennis court where people play tennis with beach volleyball wooden racket.
Nice job Ralph. Proud of your adventure keep it up. I’ve been here in Chiangmai Thailand for five years. And I love living in Thailand. I was about to begin enjoying vacations in Vietnam when this pandemic rolled around. I’m scared to death to go back to the United States because I don’t think Thailand will let me come back for a long time. But I want to go back and sell five more of my houses. I sold four of them last year. I didn’t leave the US until I was 62 receiving $800 a month on Social Security. But I was Super productive in my life in the US. So I don’t have to scream I live like a king. Congratulations on your adventures
You & Christine do nice work. Have seen many others, but have sorted out good from bad. U come in on the former. U show the very cheap side along w all other options. Higher rents r justified & worth it! Great value, but I prefer very low rent, $100. if possible. For that price I'm happy w dwelling & have sh*t load of $ to use for food & goodies. Starting to really like Vietnam.

@@RalphClescaVlogs Hey brother...my wife and I are watching your 'Grocery Shopping' video right now and we both love it! After watching countless videos on other channels, I want to point out what makes your video so great....you take your time in clearly recording prices for items that you buy! As a future visitor (maybe ex-pat retiree), having that type of clear and concise knowledge is so critical to understanding why Vietnam is so affordable. When I see that bananas cost $1.79 per kilo, I have a reference point to compare with prices in the US. It's amazing how very few vloggers offer this information like you do - that is what people want to see! Keep up the good work and we will keep watching to support your channel....thank you!!

Hey Ralph, nice videos. Would you say Da Nang is a bit slow? It seems it's quite empty. Is this solely due to COVID? Does it get busier? Would you recommend Hanoi instead? Thank you.
What are the rents for a 2/2 or 3/2 house in your area? It would need to be high and dry because of the monsoons. We still want to be close to the beach. Maybe 1400-1700 sq.ft. Is it very difficult to acquire permanent residents status?
You can get a nice house close to the river, 3/2 for $600 to $800... that is still a 5 min ride to the beach... My friends also have a 3 br house walking distance to the beach for $700. As far as the residency, I would ask Lynn Visa on fb, she can tell you the process for getting it and how long it would take in total...
All that food makes me want to go back to Vietnam. That morning glory veggie dish looks like the one. I gotta check out Da Nang when I go back. Hopefully sooner rather then later.
He's got that baby smooth face. Glowing. Don't forget international health insurance costs, utilities, transportation, miscellaneous and entertainment, visa costs and runs. Being able to live on those prices are great as long as one doesn't return to a high price country with no family to help buffer against sticker shock. Or U'll end up homeless.
Hey Ralph, thinking of going to Da Nang. Do they quarantine right now for two weeks when you enter through the airport? I was there 3 years ago. Missed it so much!
the government isn't issuing any visas for foreigners to come into to the country for the foreseeable future, you can only stay there if you already had a visa before this all started. I'm upset too I want to move there as soon as possible!
@@RalphClescaVlogs good to know. Thanks a bunch! Looks like you and your wife are really happy there. So envy of your simple life style. Can't wait to visit Da Nang!
All Vietnam borders are still closed now. That is why there are some Chinese who tried to cross the border illegally. Only Vietnamese citizens with Vietnamese passports can return to Vietnam on some special flights and they all have to be quarantined 14 days in the military camps. That is why I have to cancel my summer trip and stuck here in the U.S.
Every thing are really very cheap in VietNam. you don't need to worry about pricing here. VietNamese peoples are really friendlly. there are a lot of landscapes very nice here ( Ba Na hill....), i hope that you guy can make a video about landscapes here. in spite of vietnam still have a lot of problems, but VietNam is one of safe places during corona viruss.
Loving your videos dude. I am from a Caribbean background also and thinking about getting away from the U.S. for a year; currently living in Fort Lauderdale area. Lived in Okinawa for several years and still have family there; have been to Thailand and some other countries in the area. I was thinking Vietnam next time around because I have never been there. How did you initially find a long term crib when you moved to Vietnam? Did you stay in a hotel first?
We stayed in an Airbnb for a week. Then we asked and walked around till we found a one we liked, moved again a few months later but that is what I recommend everybody does, come here and ride around, don't spend too much time searching online... Usually it's not what you re expecting...
Hey Ralph, Morning Glory is called Kang Kong in the Philippines. It is also one of my favourites. Otherwise known as water spinach. I am re-watching your videos because I think I will head to Vietnam soon with the restrictions now easing.
$500 is about 11-12 millions dong, which is really decent. You can live comfortably with that amount of money even in Hanoi - the most expensive city in Vietnam. My dad supports the whole family on a 12-million monthly salary, paying tuition fees for 2 children.
Actually, Saigon is the most expensive city in Vietnam. The living expenses are double comparing to Hanoi or Da Nang. My favorite city in VN is Da Nang by the way. I hope not many Chinese living in Da Nang.

Wow, this is the first time I see someone eat stir-fried morning glory with bread. The place you had dinner may be a drinking place, and stir-fried morning is one of most popular drinking food as it gives you balance after so much protein consumption when drinking. It is also a dish in our daily meal, but to eat with rice and other dishes, not to eat alone. If you want to try a real Vietnamese dinner you should go to places where sell full meal with rice, veggies and meat (or fish, chicken - you can choose) included. And this kind of meal is still cheap, about 1 or 1,5USD.
Spot on about the small change situation. I bought incense and soap at a local market nearby. The woman that ran the place literally grabbed my wallet and fished out only the smaller dong bills. BTW the incense contained like 800 sticks in one package...60 cents. To add, you literally ate in the same two places that I did when I visited in October. I commend your taste! Cheers
Vietnamese cuisine paradise, and everything is cheap. The country and people of Vietnam are very friendly. pleasant temperate climate. Wish those who come to Vietnam to travel are also happy, happy and have many beautiful memories about the country and people of Vietnam. If you haven't come to Vietnam yet, please arrange a time and come to the country and people here once. Surely you will be satisfied and feel great when coming to Vietnam to experience memories. You can choose Vietnam as your 2nd hometown, which is too great. Vietnam loves all skin colors, all ethnic groups in the world. Vietnam loves peace

Dip Quẩy into your Breakfast like the local guy in the background in your breakfast clip. Lots of VNmese broths, like Phở, Banh Canh having Quẩy accompanied. When you are in Rome, do ... the VNmese do, at least for the flavour of your venture
Is there a live music scene that features jazz or blues? I play guitar and I would be interested in playing with other musicians and going to clubs to hear music. (Not EDM or rap or hip-hop...)
Oh yes no doubt... There are many bars and pubs here they have live music almost every night and drummers guitarists violinists and singers all gather :). There is" Crazy Cat, The Trip, for example are 2 of the spots that there s always something going on seemingly, there are at least 10 others within a 1 mile radius that I'm not remembering their names... So don't you worry about the night life. Haha I do more daytime adventures but my other friends are out every night...
What is the tipping culture in Vietnam? Are tips expected. Many places I have traveled to with high tourism expected even though it's not traditional in their area.
Under $5 U.S. a day to eat here is totally doable. Maybe a bit harder than it was 5 yrs ago but still you can. Want more variety then up it to $7/8 a day...$10 if you really wana splurge.

Do you know why the meal was so cheap?Cause the vendor is in outdoor market, don't have to pay for renting.
Wow, so close. You must know Puna Cafe on An Thuong 10 then.
You and your wife are so down to earth n good people. I wish you all the happiness in my far away hometown 🙏🏼
Hey man, just found ur channel and watched like 6 videos of urs. Great stuff, keep it up man. U gonna be big
I paid almost $17 dollars here in the US for that much jackfruit 😭
Haha... YUP I know what you mean haha
Feeling crazy hungry when i see “banhmy”, bro. Thank you for loving my hometown. Watching from USA with love.
haha... i'm hungry thinking about it right now too haha... I notice quite a bit of Vietnamese who are currently in the US right now watching my videos :) do you plan to come back sometime to visit or just checking for fun :)?
Ralph Clesca i am studying abroad and i am going to move back to Danang next year. It have been 5 year since i leaved and alot things change better. I happy about that.
5 yrs. alot more traffic now and the icean is alot closer. Completely diff from 5 yrs ago.
Morning glory is also known as water spinach. Very delicious. It's a weed and grows everywhere. But again it's super delicious. I like your video. Very cool
Hey :) actually we were talking about that this morning haha... our friend made it for us with Pumpkin Leaves and we liked it even more than the water spinach :) Try it sometime :)
Love this video, thanks Ralph.
Da Nang Vietnam is now on my "To Visit" list when and if the world opens up again for travel.
Prices are similar to Local food here in Bangkok. Even at Food courts in large
Shoppingmalls are around 1.50-2 USD
I've been to Chiang Mai twice, Bangkok is a place I'd like to visit in the near future actually...
@@RalphClescaVlogs Well. Thailand is pretty much
soon Virus free. only singel digits reported daily for the past weeks. and i hear Vietnam
is also recovering from the outbreak!
Ralph Clesca definitely Check out Krabi and hit up the Islands you will enjoy it
Ah. Great. I will add that to the list...
Thank you for the great video! I've never been to Vietnam but we are very intrigued at the prospect of retiring early and spending some time in SE Asia. Your video was very informative and straightforward...new subscriber alert!!
Thanks a lot for the kind words Dave :) good to have you :)
😂😂😂😂😂 I was expecting a chopstick in the beginning but nah😂 he used a spoon. Subscribed immediately.
Thank you so much for sharing this with us. Please continue to upload!!!!
Great video. Now I am hungry for Pho!
Haha... now you are making me want to go grab one 😆
I’m from Cali USA n thanks for video of my hometown Danang 👍🏼. Good vid
I have to tell ya...I just discovered ur channel.....ur are awsome bro....well spoken....extremely informative....I came on board....keep up the good work....I'm really thinking about a trip over there......I hear u lived in Miami for 14 years.....I lived for 5 years back in 95 to 2000.....up in north Miami beach acrossed from sunny isles beach....I'd like to touch base with ya sometime......peace out👍😎
Hey Ralph, nice videos.
Thanks Ralph! Keep the videos coming, they're great!
@@jimstecher534 Thank you :) Will do :)
Morning glory is just garnish my man not a meal but no stress you are good man i subscribed
All that food makes me want to go back to Vietnam. That morning glory veggie dish looks like the one. I gotta check out Da Nang when I go back. Hopefully sooner rather then later.
Man we just came out of lockdown. I'll be going all out
He's got that baby smooth face. Glowing.
Don't forget international health insurance costs, utilities, transportation, miscellaneous and entertainment, visa costs and runs.
Being able to live on those prices are great as long as one doesn't return to a high price country with no family to help buffer against sticker shock. Or U'll end up homeless.
Very good video. Thanks😀😀
I’m starting to like ur channel! Can u do more videos on the local food?
Hey Ralph, thinking of going to Da Nang. Do they quarantine right now for two weeks when you enter through the airport?
I was there 3 years ago. Missed it so much!
At this very moment, yes haha Our Vietnamese friend just came back from Thailand and had to do her 14 days :)
the government isn't issuing any visas for foreigners to come into to the country for the foreseeable future, you can only stay there if you already had a visa before this all started.
I watched your video, I don't know why, but I really liked it. I think you should write English subtitle, it can help everyone watch more easily
I plan to to do some videos about some landscapes there yet... if you any specific ideas, please send them my way ;) Thanks a lot Chung :)
@@RalphClescaVlogs you are right in the middle of it...just a few miles out of Da Nang ...just point your camera 360. You will be amazed
Heyyy. A friend is going there next week in fact 😃. I would like to but I'm waiting for more long term visa options to open up 🤗
$500 is about 11-12 millions dong, which is really decent. You can live comfortably with that amount of money even in Hanoi - the most expensive city in Vietnam. My dad supports the whole family on a 12-million monthly salary, paying tuition fees for 2 children.
Wow... That is great to know... I always wondered what a normal family spends here... Thanks a lot for this info !
Actually, Saigon is the most expensive city in Vietnam. The living expenses are double comparing to Hanoi or Da Nang. My favorite city in VN is Da Nang by the way. I hope not many Chinese living in Da Nang.
@@lightning6718 bạn nói đùa à . chi phí đắt đỏ là Hà Nội . còn tiêu nhiều là SG . chứ chi phí các món ăn HN đều cao hơn các nơi trên khắp vn. Tôi ko biết bạn đã thử ở cả 2 nới chưa mà lại bảo gấp dồi . thật buồn cười .
Hanh Nguyen oh gosh. I have same salary 12 mil VND in Hanoi but i can not save any penny
You save money by not eating out. This makes a big difference.
Lol, no way, I never give them my small bills. If they wanna get paid, they'll take my big bills 😅😅, because the grab driver definitely don't have change. Great videos :)
Haha... gotcha
Morning glory is rau muong I think hihi. It’s fantastic. The bread is very light, fluffy, n so tasty.
Great video. Can you make a video on tipping? Is it required and how much? Thanks!
My favorite dishes here in Da Nang would be my quang, cau lau and banh xeo.. also quite cheap.. and of course banh mi if you want something quick and easy, and yea two would normally be good for me, haha
Yes, I like all of these you mentioned... :)
Great video!!
Great videos.... How do you do the banking?
Ralph, the morning glory dishes are a side dish to eat along with other side dishes and rice. Lol I like how you just went for it.
Việt Nam tuyệt vời lắm các bạn nhé . Ở Việt Nam ko phân biệt chủng tộc :)) Thức ăn ở Việt Nam rất ngon :)) Người Việt Nam rất thân thiện và đặc biệt ở Việt Nam bạn sẽ được an toàn vì an ninh , chính trị Việt Nam rất ổn định ! ♥️🇻🇳🇻🇳🇻🇳
tôi đồng ý :)
Ralph Clesca Phải đồng ý chứ ♥️ Vì nó là sự thật 100% hihi
Wow, this is the first time I see someone eat stir-fried morning glory with bread. The place you had dinner may be a drinking place, and stir-fried morning is one of most popular drinking food as it gives you balance after so much protein consumption when drinking. It is also a dish in our daily meal, but to eat with rice and other dishes, not to eat alone. If you want to try a real Vietnamese dinner you should go to places where sell full meal with rice, veggies and meat (or fish, chicken - you can choose) included. And this kind of meal is still cheap, about 1 or 1,5USD.
Thanks for sharing!
Missing you guys ❤️
We miss you too 😊. We ll try to come back soon as possible ☺️
Quick question. What do you use to create your thumbnails?
I currently use Photoshop. But as you can see. They re very basic. So it's nothing you cant do on Canva or Gimp :)
Ralph Clesca Appreciate that Bruh!
Very welcome :)
Avocado smoothies oh my god you’re making me so homesick
Spot on about the small change situation. I bought incense and soap at a local market nearby. The woman that ran the place literally grabbed my wallet and fished out only the smaller dong bills. BTW the incense contained like 800 sticks in one package...60 cents. To add, you literally ate in the same two places that I did when I visited in October. I commend your taste! Cheers
Good video👍👍👍🤟🤟🤟
Great content,new subscriber
Welcome 😊
Vietnam loves peace
retired in Daytona, FL.....from NYC......I would like to visit, but do not ride motorbikes.....I'm active, just a fear of them.......how is getting around on buses and public transport, taxi, etc?
first time to watch your channel and I always travel Vietnam every year...Ed Thailand :)
the dish name is :
rau muong xao( rau muống xào). Odd to see someone eat this with bread but it's delicious to see you eat.
Ralph, have you done a video yet of how you found your apartment? Like the process you went through....and maybe talk about air conditioning?
Nope. But that is the next group of videos I plan to work on actually...
Hey Ralph, you're making me want to go live there! I was planning on going to the Philippines but you are making me think
😂😂😂😂😂idk why I started laughing @7:28 😂😂😂bruh
Damn son, watching your videos is almost making me want to try living there, I stumbled upon these out of curiosity for maybe visiting one day (after the pandemic).
But comparing the cost of living versus what you can earn seems incredible compared to the West and also seeing how happy you look, it's putting some thoughts into my head lol.
Oh... I tell you honestly... I'm not getting paid to say this... but truthfully it's the best thing i've done in my life, to come live here in SE Asia... Happiness level went way up!
@@RalphClescaVlogs It really shows in your videos, it's clear you two are loving it there. The idea of leaving the UK has often been a temptation for various reasons. I am definitely looking at booking a flight to Vietnam sometime when this pandemic is over and see what it's like.
Whether I'd move there? It appeals to me for sure and I can see it as being something I'd do in the future, but I got debts to pay off and a sick mother, so if I did, it might not be for a few years yet.
@@sae2705 hey... Anytime. It will be waiting for you 🤗
Hey Ralph, Dave again from NJ, yu know I broke one of those seats when I sat on it! LOL
Haha. I can imagine...
Man, I left VN 10 years ago to live in San Jose. I almost forgot how cheap it was. You make me want to go back so much. :(
I know you can eat however you like but that morning glory plate is supposed to be eaten with steam rice.
Yes. The first time I ate it a year ago with rice and loved it :) but last time I tried this I kept it very basic because I enjoyed the bread and the sauce so much :)
Ralph Godbless you n your beautiful wife. Could you please do a video showing the cost/living differences between the provinces?. Is it better to be North? South? Central? Does the food change by provinces like Thailand?
Good idea ... I will look into this actually...
Your wife’s facial expression to “morning glory “ is funny. It doesn’t seem like you eat much Vietnamese food.
Haha just recently started eating much more Vietnamese food... You are correct. Up to this point. Not much... Because it s so easy to order anything here :)
@@RalphClescaVlogs Did you try "trái sa kế chiên"? It will be a perfect replacement for French fries. I missed it here in the U.S.
There’re Banh mi Phuong very delicious and the desert che Lan (Thai Durian if you can manage!) worth to try in Danang.
How do you compare Vietnamese coffee with Cuban coffee in Little Havana in Miami?
Is that Sriaccha in your cabinet? Did you buy it there, we are waiting for Covid19 to end before we move out there!
Haha you have good eyes... Yes. That is my maximum spicy level lol. The chilis here are no joke. And I don't play wit that lol. I bought it at Mega Market.
Awesome cause I’m starting to pack sauces to bring there and so glad to hear sriaccha is over there one less thing I need to bring hahah! My husband thinks I’m nuts cause I seriously want to pack one suitcase full of sauces. Thanks!
@@thetravelingchews no need to...they have everythings in the supermarket
Ralph. It's recommendable to order a pair of "Quẩy" pronounced: Kwei. A chinese influenced of deep fried bread. Dip Quẩy into your Breakfast like the local guy in the background in your breakfast clip.
Lots of VNmese broths, like Phở, Banh Canh having Quẩy accompanied. When you are in Rome, do ... the VNmese do, at least for the flavour of your venture
Yes. Actually I didn't know what it was but they gave me some and I liked it :) I tried it may e the week after this video :)
8:00 lol🤣 , i never seen anybody eat bread with garlic saurce
WHATTT! It is sooo good lol
Tomorrow is my final exam and i cant stop watching your vids lol
What was in the breakfast soup? Looked like chicken- beef broth? Thanks
It was a fish soup... so tasty! :)
Exactly :)
Awesome!!!
There are no tip after you have meals as well 😅😅😅
At 6:57 I probably enjoy the dish with steamed rice instead of bread.
Ralph which area did you go to have dinner n juice?
The dinner was on Phan Tu street (that whole street is full of food places at night until after midnight), and the juices are from Chè Phước Trang
Thanks 😊
