I think guys like harden on the Clippers and Westbrook on the Nuggets is the perfect way for guys in the NBA to go out the exact antithesis to a guy like Carmelo, kobe,Shaq
I think NBA teams are always offering up money to aging stars because they are a safer pick than some rookie that hasn't proven themselves yet. With a rookie, you have to develop them and find a way to build around them, and that just takes time and money. A star, even when aging, still gets jersey sales, fan recognition, and at the very least, you know how they play and that they have proven themselves. It doesn't always work, but if a team wants to win now, that's the safer route.
Keep up the good work with the content. Although I can’t blame some of these ageing stars for accepting their contracts think GMs should get the grief for these situations.
really great video. Just shows you how much the NBA has shifted towards more role player oriented builds. I feel like there's a lot of discourse surrounding what is a championship with a big impact and players career versus a championship with a small impact in a player's career. for example what separates the Dirk Nowitzki ring from the Jason Tatum ring. both are seen in very different lights.
There’s an insane loyalty complex in the NBA vs other leagues I feel on both sides, NFL had the Stafford Goff trade where the lions got rid of their guy who they were loyal to and rams got rid of a #1 draft pick but it ultimately was a win win, rams won immediately after and the lions seemingly (as long as their defense doesn’t fall apart) have a bright future. Can’t see anything like that happening in the NBA though
OKC is such an interest case-study because they were clearly indicating a desire to stick with Westbrook and try building another contender around him, but Kawhi and the Clippers forced their hands to rebuild entirely, and immediately. Flash-forward to now and they're better today than they've been in nearly a decade while the Clippers are stuck in mediocrity
Nah. OKC had Harden, KD, and Westbrook and they never won a championship. They are still better than today OKC because they went to the finals but lost to the Heats. I will give OKC flowers when they go to the finals and win a championship. If they don't OKC just fumble the bag.
I understand that these guys are ultra competitive and that competitiveness is gonna bleed into when it comes to signing contracts. But I never understood why more of them haven’t taken pay cuts as they’ve aged to allow for building a better team. By mid 30s they’ve got more money than god, what does it matter if you take a vet minimum to allow a rising start to get his bag and possibly have a real chance at a title run?
The players are (rightfully) encouraged to get as much as they can get, just like anyone in any industry. Even beyond that, the whole salary cap system breaks down if it becomes a regular, expected thing for stars to pull a Jalen Brunson and turn down a bunch of money so the team can sign better players. The salary cap is meant to spread the talent around the league as much as possible to give every team (theoretically) an even playing field. If a player who is actually worth a $50million/yr max deal signs for half that so the team has the space to sign another $50mil/yr guy, that throws off the competitive balance in the league - and when that happens, the big sexy markets like LA and New York once again have a huge advantage b/c stars are much more likely to turn down big money to win a chip in LA or New York rather than, say, Memphis, where they can't make the money back in off-court income like they could in LA/NYC. Player agents are probably also not too happy to encourage their clients to take less money, for obvious reasons.
@ I mean I get it, if you can get the money go for it, but it’s not like the 80’s and 90’s. A rookie scale contract has you set for life. These guys are essentially playing with Monopoly money, so at a certain point you’d think you’d see more stars like Brunson who realize a max contract isn’t gonna do that much more for your lifestyle than a minimum. It likely is more the agents than anything trying to collect a commission. Like why does Jimmy Butler care so much about getting a max deal when he could potentially go to a team and become a champion?
@@craigbanning8960 because another $200mil is a whole lot nicer than $30mil and a ring. I think you underestimate how much rich people want to be even richer ;)
Yo bro. Talking specifically about rebuilding. Maybe I'm just applying football and baseball logic to a sport that it shouldn't be applied to. But my belief is that if a team is good enough to make the dance, you should try and make the dance. Cuz all it takes is a good 4 weeks of play to win a championship. So I think you as a team should roll those dice everytime. Also specifically talking about the suns now. Trading ayton away for nurk and Grayson Allen is 100% a great move for the suns lmfao. Ayton is cheeks and nurk is too. But his contract is cheaper and shorter term. I also think Grayson Allen is just a good player on a good deal for the suns Not gonna defend the Beal move tho. Cuz I agree 100% it was a shit move

The Lakers are really wasting what’s left of Anthony Davis. He’s finally healthy and has gotta be on a team with Bronny James lol

How about a video on systems and fit? Comes to me in how Westbrook is having a renaissance season with Denver.

That outro was lit my guy
There is another reason to keep 35+ old vets, tickets and merchandise.
Exactly. You can't just trade Stephen Curry if you're the Warriors. For many, he and the Warriors are one-in-the-same

Video idea- are 1st round draft picks truly the most valuable trade asset?
As a Heat fan, Jimmy is a drama queen to the max!!! All he cares about is money and being the #1 option. When he doesnt have that he pouts.
Brian Scalabrine on the Celtics in 08
Bro was carrying them
great video, great topic, rip them selfish videos when you got em

even if Steph wanted to go to another team who could possibly afford golden states asking price😊
did/can you cover overseas ball, such as combines? is that a low-covered area of ball?
"It could be worse" Then they traded Harden for Simmons
James Harden is doing really great this season

SHUT UP!!!!!!!!!
You should have seen the count at one minute
@@whatslapslol fire video though
Don’t trade older one-team stars. Let them retire with their team. Every other fan who cares even the slightest bit about sentimentality gets this.
That .mindset is why you have so many bad small market teams. You got to know when to let go
Despite being always competitive, Heat have an impressive young talent right now. Can't wait to see Jimmy gone so they can focus on those guys fully.
