Yeah, go look at the first Tesla, just a Lotus with an electric motor. SpaceX, the Falcon 1 was tiny and only did it's job on the 4th launch, the Falcon 9 was way shorter and had no landing first stage. Things evolve, this is a prototype. What people don't understand is that Elon shows us the prototypes, unlike other companies that invest tons of cash over years and only show the public a pretty, functional, "perfect" final product.
The point is that they can build these tunnels at 10 times the speed and 1/10th the cost of traditional tunnels. The idea is to build thousands of small tunnels like this in a 3D underground grid to solve traffic once and for all.
The man is honestly a genius, he's the change in the world that is needed. He's gonna revolutionise everything even more than he already has in only a matter of years with his ideas and projects
The point is they aren't building tunnels at anywhere near 10 x the speed, or 1/10th the cost. This is a tiny tunnel, only suitable for a few vehicles owned by the 1%. This is the most expensive transportation on the planet. It's a complete disaster.

Until an accident eventually happens, and you're stuck sharing a tiny tunnel space with a half-ton lithium fire. Yeah, sounds like a great alternative to sitting in traffic for 20 minutes.I love the smell of flaming death in the morning.
The queues to get into the tunnels would be longer than a normal drive to the destination. It's bad enough trying to get a bunch of cars on and off a 10 lane freeway. Doesn't seem scalable.
i'll just put this here because everyone is going to say it anyway.. What's beautiful about Elon is that he walks his talk. Whatever he says he'll do, he does it. And as Casey says, "Be a Closer". When you start something, finish it. ✨
@@MrHenreee (but to add, walking your talk isnt easy when what he talks about are big things. His work ethics and persistence in achieving his goals are unlike any other. That's beautiful. How about you? Have you done anythig?) 💖
If it weren't for forward thinkers and inventors like Elon Musk, we would never progress. Funny how things seem so crazy and out there until 5 years later when everyone can't live without it. Ya tunneling has been done before but no one took action on it in this capacity. Just like clothing trends, the progressive ones look goofy for a while, then the masses follow and they become leaders. This is inspiring to me, it's more than just a tunnel, it's about progressing and taking action when no one else will, to make things better. Cheers Casey!
It's true it is progress. Because he is generating a viable solution that is space and cost efficient. We can't dig massive tunnels under CBDs without significant structural disruptions. What Elon proposes is a smaller and easier install. Also, because it relies on electric car tech there will be no need to consider the exhaust/ventilation.
@@soul832006 "no need to consider the exhaust/ventilation" sure, sepecially if one of those batteriescatches on fire. Everyone in the tunnel will suffocate/poison to death in seconds and there is no need for a wider or second tunnel which is usually required by safety rules for fire engines to get there.
Casey sir, it's great to see you every time with higher number of reaching s. It's so cool that you really defines what you are and what you feel in for anything in the life. The world is small proved by you. This shows how anyone can reach heights. invited by Elon Musk ... that's definitely a big amount of good-bumps.
I love the name... "The Boring Company"... and I'm with you Casey, Elon thinks outside the box and then his ideas become what the box is made out of... I get chills thinking about what he and his team accomplished in a very short time...
@Benoit Mercier I assume you're talking about the $465 million Advanced Technology Vehicles Manufacturing loan program that they got in 2008? If so, they repaid that a decade ahead of schedule back in 2013 plus interest. Or are you talking about the Electric Vehicle tax credit? Because every manufacturer gets that until they hit the 200,000 vehicle threshold. Which Tesla just did, so that ones gone now too. Or are you talking about CARB? Which is solely in California and also offered to anyone. Or are you talking about the various city incentives for locating their business within a city (Freemont, Reno, etc)? Because those also go to everyone cities/states try to attract to locate within their borders. Tesla hasn't gotten any special treatment that literally THOUSANDS of other businesses haven't, and Tesla has repaid all of their loans well ahead of schedule... so I'm not really sure what you're talking about.
As a Christmas gift to myself, I drove over the tunnel along 120th St. this morning up to 80mph just to say I went faster than the prototype ... but in fairness, the prototype looks promising.
VanCan oh yeah, how would you have is it you have to defend being a fan of a man who publicly makes false allegations about other people being pedophiles
A man who changes the world. At the point that humanity is right now, the ends more than justify the means. And he isn't hurting anyone. The people at his companies overwork because they want to, ask anyone who works for Elon, they just love doing productive and important things. IsN't ThAt StRaNgE??
There are millions of tunnels in the world but because this one is the 'Boring Company by Elon Musk' it's suddenly awesome. Casey even says it's magical... Come on bro.

well I'm not at all one bit, but driving through hwy tunnels and mountain built ones freak me out. I declined attending a family reunion to avoid Virginia's one. apparently very long. I barely made it in Alabama's one under water which is small. hey... I can go caving all day, but I'm phobic of these tunnels
@@bryanceballos1296, when all the people causing the traffic in LA using the tunnel(s), there wouldn't be a capacity problem, too? Don't get me wrong, that's cool shit.
Finally, legitimate oversight from one visionary about another addressing what it means to "capture the imagination" and give future generations something to think about. Bravo Mr. Neistat.
The city of Adelaide in Australia has been doing this with buses for like 30 years. They call it the O-Bahn. Only difference is the public buses can go 60mph....... Elon must have rode around on public transport when he installed his battery for housing power storage that we will never use
so many questions: what'd be a real-life use case? would it be proprietary to Tesla drivers? would it be a single lane tunnel? how would breakdowns and medical emergencies be addressed? and probably the first obvious thought: why endorse individual commute when the concept of trains and buses is much more efficient?
Not proprietary to Tesla, but other cars need to be kitted with the proprietary skates. From Tesla. Can't be more than one lane - the cost savings of the tunnel build are purely due to size. A second tunnel would have to be built for contraflow traffic... Which would be more expensive than a larger bore tunnel. Elon is working on it though. Breakdowns have not been addressed. You aren't supposed to talk about how existing technology is more efficient than this. It takes the glow off the Elon love. This is an old tech tunnel presented with glowing lights inside it. The lights are new.
CPo so why would no media or RUclipsr challenge this PR stunt with facts? .. ah, my bad, sorry .. they're all still waiting for their new Tesla Roadster on press conditions
The real answer is... Not everyone has access to or cares to use the public transit systems. There are a lot more people who prefer riding solo or not in mass. This first tunnel is nothing more than a proof of concept and is not representative of the final product. It will never be used as intended by the public. The purposes of this tunnel project is to garner interest from the public and media. As well as to hopefully secure investments and it is the first step in learning lessons on how to improve their tunneling tech and the next tunnel project. This is literally the rough draft of what is potentially a revolutionary new transit system.
PinoyAmerican Adventures sorry, I don't buy that. There are tunnels built all over the world and the two questions always dictating costs are a) the geological conditions with the implicated individual constructions and b) the security measures needed to evacuate people. Building a tube for goods like the Hyperloop sure is new and can be revolutionary. But the transportation of people is solved. Our societies just need to get their heads around the fact that individual commute is a thing of the past. Cars, pods, capsules .. what ever you want to call it are inefficient and take up too much space per passenger. The convenience of your own car will be a thing of the past - at least in densely populated areas.
Hi Casey, do you know anything at all if he is trying to implement his regenerative braking system to load the battery of the Tesla while being inside the tunnel?
Elon Musk is what everyone should aspire to be. He makes his ideas reality. He is not a sit in meetings all day businessman. He is an engineer that does nothing but create. That's being brave enough to stay a kid and just create and think of ideas.
Elon is brilliant in his own right, but he also brings together a lot of progressive fresh minds that help him realize his ideas. He is there to to be hands on and help with the engineering, but he also lets his engineers flex their own brain muscle as he believes in teamwork, not one man shows. His presentations always start off thanking his employees, investors, customers, and followers for helping him and his companies get to where they are. He doesn’t take credit for everything, unlike what most CEOs do.
It's not about the concept of inventing a tunnel, it's all about a newly reinvented machinery that makes digging much faster, more efficient and economical than other conventional machines. The tunnels are narrower to reduce cost and increase constructibility. Musk is a dreamer and the world needs more of him.

In the UK we have two guided bus ways which uses a similar guide wheel to fly down this track, it's not a new idea but applying it to tunnels underground is a great idea
What's beautiful about Elon is that he walks his talk. Whatever he says he'll do, he does it. And as Casey says, "Be a Closer". When you start something, finish it. ✨
diana banana you have a blessed day I sub to u pls sub back and u will have good luck.
There's nothing beautiful about Elon Musk, lmao
@@MrHenreee Jealous much?
@@MrHenreee ok that's your opinion, no worries. Have a nice day!

This is real progress
It's true it is progress. Because he is generating a viable solution that is space and cost efficient. We can't dig massive tunnels under CBDs without significant structural disruptions. What Elon proposes is a smaller and easier install. Also, because it relies on electric car tech there will be no need to consider the exhaust/ventilation.
Yeah just look at all of the early reviews of the first iPhone that said "Nobody is going to want to type on a touch screen."
yall crazy...in 5 years we will be laughing at such an idea when we are all using a much better invention
Great content. Thank you again Casey
Even if Elon fails with his tunnel idea, at leat he tried
"If you're not failing often, you're not innovating enough." -Elon Musk
Tesla hasn't gotten any special treatment that literally THOUSANDS of other businesses haven't, and Tesla has repaid all of their loans well ahead of schedule... so I'm not really sure what you're talking about.
mycroft16 well said
Benoit Mercier way to be completely wrong!!!
These was an awesome vlog to Watch!!
As a Christmas gift to myself, I drove over the tunnel along 120th St. this morning up to 80mph just to say I went faster than the prototype ... but in fairness, the prototype looks promising.
It's crazy that you'd even need to defend being a fan of Elon Musk!

Casey drinking that Musk coolaid
A man who changes the world. At the point that humanity is right now, the ends more than justify the means. And he isn't hurting anyone. The people at his companies overwork because they want to, ask anyone who works for Elon, they just love doing productive and important things. IsN't ThAt StRaNgE??
There are millions of tunnels in the world but because this one is the 'Boring Company by Elon Musk' it's suddenly awesome. Casey even says it's magical... Come on bro.
now compare how much the boring company spend per mile vs other tunnels. you get the point
Loris Support Guides let’s compare the safety features of this tunnel vs others.
Oh yeah, this has none.... oops bye humanity
Loris Support Guides oops... bye build quality
Loris Support Guides ooops... bye capacity
@@73APhotography for someone with transport guide in your name. You sure are utterly ignorant as to what this whole transport project is and what its aims are.

Love the kid playing with the flame gun! 6:31
Elon musk will either be the world's saviour or come out as a super villain
I thought the same thing! Hopefully he wont turn into some mad genius
SO CRAZY!! The issue I have is that I am claustrophobic. I wonder how much of an issue that would be in real life with a super long tunnel. 🚗🚕🚙👌🤘
I'm pretty sure you are going to be in a car type cabin so if you aren't nervous in a car then you should be good
The alternative is being stuck in LA traffic for hours without moving. Your choice
Just dont build a underground snow tunnel that is slightly bigger than you. At least you can bust out of that instead of trying a real cavern tunnel. >
well I'm not at all one bit, but driving through hwy tunnels and mountain built ones freak me out.
Love your videos Casey
It’s good to see people like Casey and Elon who are pushing and creating cool things.
Finally, legitimate oversight from one visionary about another addressing what it means to "capture the imagination" and give future generations something to think about. Bravo Mr. Neistat.
love or hate everything this company does they are trying to push the world towards the future unlike what most other major companies are doing
Exactly seeing Elon's projects makes me think I've already arrived at the future
Early Man yep most companies are just looking for ways to maximise their profits
I remember in concept vids for this, the car would go on a cart thing that would go wicked fast. Maybe that's where they are headed
The city of Adelaide in Australia has been doing this with buses for like 30 years. They call it the O-Bahn. Only difference is the public buses can go 60mph....... Elon must have rode around on public transport when he installed his battery for housing power storage that we will never use
You cant compare a city in australia to L.A

@@dylandurose7096 yeh but thats the same with la except la is actually a desert just a bit was turned into a city.... and also ik i live in australia
so many questions:
what'd be a real-life use case? would it be proprietary to Tesla drivers? would it be a single lane tunnel? how would breakdowns and medical emergencies be addressed?
and probably the first obvious thought: why endorse individual commute when the concept of trains and buses is much more efficient?
B. Willroth you have a blessed day I sub to u pls sub back and u will have good luck.
Why elon musk don't have his own RUclips channel
atleast he has his own twitter
Because he has an own tube 😀
Do you even English?
He's working 100 hours a week, he doesn't have time for a RUclips channel
He is too busy creating non stop
Hi Casey, do you know anything at all if he is trying to implement his regenerative braking system to load the battery of the Tesla while being inside the tunnel?

K Pop ain't boring it's what this video needs.
People using the "Read more" ploy to try and sound clever when they actually are not.
Elon Musk is what everyone should aspire to be. He makes his ideas reality. He is not a sit in meetings all day businessman. He is an engineer that does nothing but create. That's being brave enough to stay a kid and just create and think of ideas.
Btw! The tunnels are 100% safe and do not cause negative issues causing more earthquakes there
Elon is brilliant in his own right, but he also brings together a lot of progressive fresh minds that help him realize his ideas.
3:52 there's Matt Gutman, he's a big reporter from ABC

Where can i buy that hoodie?
Does anybody know?
It's not about the concept of inventing a tunnel, it's all about a newly reinvented machinery that makes digging much faster, more efficient and economical than other conventional machines. The tunnels are narrower to reduce cost and increase constructibility. Musk is a dreamer and the world needs more of him.
If only more people felt the same way about Elon’s projects as Casey!
if only more people felt about putting action to their words like Elon Musk does too.
It’s a cool idea, I just feel it’s not going to do much for congestion as it’s a one lane tunnel that you need a specific car to drive in
