Great video, all the relevant information with no fluff. Really appreciated. Would love to see more videos on 520 maintenance like coolant replacement, changing final gear oil, etc.
You have to remove the entire computer and half of the wiring harness to it just to change the oil filter??? Is there a better way @AppalachianMountainRiders ?? Show me a better way please. Wow Honda.
Yes you do have to if you go watch the other guys video on his 500 service he does the same thing it is not a complicated process though thank you for your comment
Yesterday, I was not paying attention and learned that it's possible to bolt on the oil filter cover in the wrong orientation, which then allows all the new oil to just leak out. I blame Honda for making the oil filter so damn hard to access. Anyway, thought I would mention on the off chance it saves someone else the hassle of having to clean up 3 liters of oil off the garage floor.
@@bervillefreak it’s frustrating eh? You think you’re done and all of the sudden there is oil everywhere. They should make the cover so that it only fits on one way.
@@markkroenke agreed dude it sucks. Luckily I only lost about ½ liter and had drain pan under but still stupid. I did get a good laugh rewatching this and seeing your comment tho 🤣
Excellent video, thank you. Doing as many as you do, you can guage how much torque you're applying, I still need a torque wrench, at least for the first couple of times. The only other thing is, you didn't address the spring behind the oil filter
Yeah, this was one of my early videos years ago definitely forgot to mention the spring. I do this so often I know it’s there. I know it doesn’t fall out on me. Someday I’ll make an updated video.
This video was a great help in my oil change. Can you do a clutch adjustment video on the pioneer 520? Or is like the 500 loosen jam turn adjusting screw 1 full turn clockwise and then counterclockwise into resistance is felt? Thanks in advance.
Part number on the oil filter would be nice. I'll be using royal purple synthetic oil on my 520 pioneer. Is this the same filter the Pioneer 500 uses? ty
I’m still trying to decide between the 500 and 520. I see the benefits to both. One of my concerns with either of the two machines is cabin noise. I know all sxs are loud at high rpms but how would you say the cabin noise is at cruising speeds. Is it pretty tolerable and comparable to other newer sxs? I had an older teryx and the noise was nearly unbearable. Haven’t had a chance to test drive one of these yet and was just wondering. Thanks for the videos and in advance for any response.
There is nothing better about the 500 the 520 is the superior machine it has a little bit more power on its bottom end and the box was a much needed upgrade in my opinion👍👍👍
First off, thank you for your video. About to place an order for everything I will need to do the first 100 mile oil change on my 520. Will all I need to order is the filter (15412-HM5-A10) and 3 liters/quarts of 10w30 motorcycle oil. Will I also need to replace any o-rings or washers? 91302-KF0-003 or 91303-HA0-004?
Yes you should be good with what you got there I would order a new O-ring and washer and keep them on hand sometimes the O-ring gets pinched and it’s good to have one and the washer usually last two or three uses👍
Thank you for your comment as far as I know the roof should be the same but I can double check that for you tomorrow when I go into work I’ll get back to you
Thanks for the support the shifting is probably going to be the same I haven’t heard anything yet I know most of the problems that people had with the 500 was using the wrong kind of oil you have to use motorcycle oil or the clutch as will not work properly and that will cause hard shifting
3 liters seemed like a lot to me also. I asked if he was sure on the 3 liters and replying yes ? I’m still a little skeptical. I guess one could go to Honda.com and find out
Thank you for your comment very much appreciated at this current time I mostly focusing on the mechanical and Unboxing side of things but the channel is young and I’m sure I will go in that direction in the future
I just order one, im gonna have to take it to a shop to change oil ? Wtf my pos polaris was a easy to do . I'm 64 and beat up, it take me a day to do it . 😠
I love Honda ATV and UTV and own numerous ones. But to have to do so much disassembly and disconnections to change an oil filter is an absolutely horrendous design. My 2009 Yamaha grizzly had a small auto type screw on filter that was easy to get to. C’mon Honda……. you can do better !
@@Maxsmotoshop The lid with 3 screws and a spring that has to be lined up perfectly in a spot an average male hand hardly fits is a poor design in anyones book. I’ve done it many times and sorry, but your rebuttal won’t change my opinion that it’s way more of a pain in the ass than needs be. Already appears that many other comments have the same sentiments.
@@ellobo1326 I don’t need to convince you. I have service almost every machine out there and Honda is always one of the easiest and best machines to work on. If you have a problem working on it then maybe that’s just you because it’s definitely not the Honda.

Honda....PLEASE put a spin on oil filter, storage and a roof. Sales will skyrocket.
Agreed thanks for the comment
Spin on oil filter ain't going to draw one extra customer. If you want the machine you're not going to be scared away it from this

Haha

No not poor engineers they are the problem poor mechanics that have to deal with it👍

yes, exact same procedure👍
@MaxsMotoShop good deal thank you sir!
What size of socket for the filter bolts?

Is there a spring behind the oil filter?
Yes

That oil filter location sucks.
👍
When I had the skid plate off it looked like the oil filter was accessible from bottom.???
It might be but overtime skid plate bolts get worn out and broken and it will be easier to go from the top always 👍👍👍

I just checked my Honda parts system and they give me the same part number for the 500 and the 520
What is the service interval? And is the first one shorter then the standard service interval?

Most complicated oil change. Have to remove ecm. Wtf.
You mean those three little plastic clips completely exposed once seat is removed
@MaxsMotoShop 10 no. remove seat. 10 push pins. 3 screws. And 3 bolts for oil filter cover. And a little Oring.
Not complicated. Just over engendered. There is a rubber tampon under the drivers side. Why not have on both sides. Put ecm somewhere else.
Way to much work for a oil change.
