I have an A6700 & FX30. I think I'll be fine for at least 5 years
my dream squad!
Totally agree! I also have those two cameras. Loving them!
and some! with 4k and 10bit color, there won't be a need for much else until our TVs are standardised for more than 4k
FX30 rock but i think you could go for A7r3 instead of a6700 imo
@@tuanminh3720 can you tell us why?
I've had my canon m50 for 5 years now. Maxed the hell put of it and I need an upgrade soon enough
haha yes definitely old tech. Upgrading most likely would be a good option
I bought a RED V-Raptor for absolutely no reason. It's the greatest dumbest decision I've ever made. After 5 months of owning, got a new short horror film and a music series passion project in production. Potential bankruptcy has been so much fun.
I have the LUMIX S5(the original boi) and the FX30. Their colors actually go together really well, and honestly they’re all I need for most gigs. If the job ever calls for something larger or more expensive, I just rent it. Great video! I love those driving shots
perfect! just what i love hearing!
I've thought about upgrading from the OG pocket 6k so many times, but every time I use it I think "nah I'm good. This camera still punches above it's weight"
If you're a lousy mediocre painter, buying new brushes will not turn you into Rembrandt.
Fair warning to anyone think the Sony NEX 5R is a good pick up.
The image looks good but auto focus is very poor.
Save yourself the headache and get a ZV1 w/ ulanzi wide angle filter.
I’ve tested and wasted so much money trying alternative solution.
Great video Jason 👍🏽
you are very correct. The sensor is average but the tech is very old. Most cameras in the past 4 years are really enough. but NEX 5R truly is old
you can always shoot in manual focus like a true DP! But a6000 is a big step up due to proper dials and viewfinder. NEX-5n was my first mirrorless... in 2011!
I do weddings, I own two a7iv and going for a fx30 to complete the kit, I think both are fantastic! Good video, as usual! Saludos desde España!
i also own both fx30 and a7iv. i prefer to use the fx30 as first camera because of the ergonomics and overheating( i exclusively shoot 4k50) fx30+ fast primes you can shoot in any lighting conditions.
I got the FX30 with a Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 and I love it. I still get tempted by blackmagic and lumix with their super competitive pricing on their full frame open gate options which is so nice for anamorphic but I am more than happy with what I have right now!
I use that combo regularly 👍🏽
What a great demo!
This is another great example that story, light and camerawork is the next thing to improve. But the image from current cameras is so good. Thank you, Jason.
I have 2 A74 bidies and an fx30 for hot vegas days. I use thrm all in apsc mode and love them
Upgrading stabilization and unlimited recording time with S5iix did that for me. Always so motiviated to shoot more with it now.
That car shot was so beautiful ❤
I want to get into videography. I have a Sony a5100. I think I need to upgrade my camera.
Hey Jason, thanks for all the great information. You have taught me a lot and helped me make my first mirrorless camera purchase. Was going to get the fx3 but went with the fx30 instead. Was able to get the camera body, 4 genuian sony batteries and fast charge dock, Sirui sniper 23mm lense, 2 sony 960 Gb CFexpress type A cards, sirui cage, and a scorp2 gimbal all for the price of an fx3 body. Super excited about the update, I want to focuse on learning about videography not stills. Shutter angle is going to be awesome. Soo far I'm loving the fx30. 😊
I still have my silver colored a6000 from 2014 and I only shoot photos with it (mobile WiFi transfer still works!) While an a6700 would be nicer, it’s just like an iPhone, not much is gonna change for every day, non-professional work. Camera bodies are very well engineered and don’t need to be consistently changed, probably more environmentally friendly than mobile phones.
If anything new lenses breathe new life into ideas/perspectives than a new body would. I finally found a mint condition Zeiss 24mm 1.8 for $350 locally vs when it was $1199 msrp when it was first released in 2011. Invest in your lenses and the vision you have for your photography!
Whenever I read that Sony was the best for video, I sold my D850. Let me tell you, coming from Nikon to Sony for video, the difference was very very obvious. Nikon just doesn’t care about video, or they didn’t back then. Now I’m fully invested into the Sony universe and I couldn’t be happier.
I'm still using my Sony a73 and few 3rd lenses for still and video, tbh I usually using strobe for most of my work and with good lighting you don't need expensive camera for great results, For videography, I only do some broll, mostly for hobby and learning stuff. The cost of camera gear can get out of hand real quick, so very be careful, only pay for what you need.
Hey man I looking somebody can make one vide, I'm looking for comparing if it's necessary upgrade your camera when you need 4K 60, using a enhancer software too interpolate 4K 30 to 60 or 1080p 60p to 4k, I want to see what is the difference between.
I asked you this because I have a Sony A7 4 for my real estate business but the camera is only 33 megapixels but I use some apps( AI) for enhance the photos and bring the 33 megapixel to like 120, and they looks way better even like the Sony A7 R5, so is not any more necessary to buy a camera with more megapixel, but I want to know if this translate with video too. Thank you so much and I know I love this is a lot
Why don't you just use pixel shift to get high megapixel images?
I am a hobbyist and I Just bought ZVE10 and I have lenses such as sony 18-105mm F4, sony 50mm F1.8, 16-50mm kit lens, and just ordered a full manual lens 7artisans 35mm F 0.95 is on its way, it is an awesome kit. These when put on ZVE10, awesome results can be produced and short film can be shot with all this gear. Anyone has thoughts or experience on this gear pls share?
ZV-E10 is great. Really hard to grade log footage but with standard profiles it looks great out of camera. Investing in lenses is very important to gain certain looks. I always try tell people to invest in lighting and learning how to shape light the best they can
All these new cameras be making me want to go on a spending spree but I gotta stay focused and get me a drone having 2 cams is nice but aerial shots are just different 🔥
I have a Zv-e1 and an a7sii. I wanna sell my a7sii and get whatever comes after the fx6
Big fan from Norway here! Love what you are providing in the videos! Keep grinding👏
thank you for watching my friend!
Camera is just tool. “Go out shoot." is all time answer.
So... i love small camera like fx30 or fx3. if i has arri alexa, red or venice... it's overkill to my project.
i just wanna run and gun camera.
yeah smaller cameras like the FX3 and FX30 are brilliant for run and gun
@@JasonMorrisphotocinema before i use fx30, i use A7S2 and A7C. That's same reason 'light weight'
Well now I want this "f 5 mk ii X" he's talking about
I love my zve1 for all my video work but im also looking for a great hybrid camera as a B cam and I don’t know which to choose
Sony a7iv. Won’t miss a beat as a hybrid camera
This is excellent Jason.
thank you
I just sold my Sony a7rii to buy a Sony a7iv😢 😂
Great video! 👍🏻
I’m still madly in love with my a7iv
It's hard for me to see needing any upgrade unless my workflow changes drastically! I don't need raw and I don't need 6k acquisition -- the FX6 is awesome.
oh the FX6 really is a camera that will last easy another 5-10 years in relevance with specs
Finally a sound and coherent voice. Cheers Jason.
thank you for watching
I like how you implement bodybuilding to your videos
With my work yes haha. I film a lot of fitness athletes for my freelance work
Honestly I love my camera's. I would upgrade for quality of life. I would kill for build in ND-filter and perhaps open gate on a A7S IV.
That would actually be way more interesting to me than higher resolution or other stuff 🤗
yeah these features would make things so much easier!
I think it's better to wait for Sony's 2-layer transistor tech to reach mirrorless cameras which could hit 17-18+ stops of dynamic range natively and unrestricted like the Raptor X.
No, we need the 32-bit float equivalent for video capture, such that exposure settings do not matter anymore. Would 25 stops be enough?
sony will have an answer to canons DGO sensor tech. It will just come down to making it affordable
@@Edwin-- Will that's also amazing, why not both?
@@JasonMorrisphotocinema I think it ahould be affordable, the 2-layer transistor sensor. It could be even better than the launch of BSI CMOS tech. You find it in the Xperia 1 V / 5 V / 1 VI, iPhone 15, and I think Galaxy and other top phones as Sony tends to share their sensors. Also maybe a new processsor that's based on 3-4nm should be announced with the A1 II, and why not have fans just like FX3/30? Time will tell.
Almost no difference between Nex5R and the FX30... Goes to show hey.
Nex 5 r looks deccent
it ok! does the job when lit
I like the into tune.
While I do have an A7SIII, I prefer to film on my two fully rigged out FS5M2s. While the auto focus isn’t super great on them, for corporate work and controlled situations and not run and gun, it is just not worth the upgrade to the FX6s. GAS and listening to influencer creators is useless. I define influencers as people making money in sales, they are not necessarily film professionals working with client projects.
The difference between the FS5 II and FX6 in a professional workflow is almost nothing. It is more so the full frame sensor, low light performance and higher 4k frame rates that make it worth it for some people. Like you said in professional use not really worth it. Moreso a luxury than a need
@@JasonMorrisphotocinema I agree but any camera limitations are really mitigated because I film in SLOG3 on an Atomos. Granted I cannot get too much over 6k ISO before seeing my shadows blow out.
@@MindfulGrinds I’m glad you can make it work. Shows you know how to use your tools correctly at its best! Love it
If you have an atamos, you can get prores raw in the a7siii. 12bit log is supposed to be far superior to 12 bit linear. I think 10 bit log is better, at least in the shadows, than 12 bit linear. 12 bit linear log on the fs5 doesn't have enough data in the shadows. It's a topic if you haven't looked at it before...having to do with not enough code values to distribute the closer you get to black. 12bit log resolves this but that atomos requires 16bits to do 12bit log. Otherwise, you get 12 bit, ugly in the blacks when pushed, linear.
Also, prores raw is the highest you can get out of both the a7siii and fx6. That would mean the highest quality image you can get out of the fx6, you can also get out of the a7siii as they should be the same. I'd like to see a test to be sure but in theory it should be the exact same image. Anyone see this by chance with their own eyes? Not internal...prores raw?
@@errol3184I believe if I dug around I thought I saw a Gerald Undone comparison or at least similar but I am not sure there has been once since the last firmware upgrade on the A7SIII. I think you are right in that at least the dynamic range should be the same on paper even though claims are that the FX6 is slightly better. I will say the resolution is larger on the A7SIII though and that can provide some advantages over the FX6 4264x2408 on A7SIII vs regular DCI on FX6. I try not to wrap myself up too much in all that as there are so many variables as well as the fact that let’s face it, for me, all my client projects end up on social media or their website. I notice differences in my own edits but it is difficult sometimes to notice online except in perhaps softness of skin tones.
Regarding the FS5MII, I am running Inferno’s with mine and what you seemed to be talking about regarding Linear is almost directly out of the Alister Chapman playbook. I have experienced that in controlled environments as I stated, I have no issues and the footage comes out great until I get hit with lower light issues.
I was more leaning towards that it is simply not worth upgrading to the FX6 when there is not much difference to my workflow and apart from poor autofocus and lighting requirements, it is not worth losing two fully setup cameras to gain a single camera. I run Atomos Ninja for my A7SIII and infernos for my FS5MIIs because I prefer the SSD workflow.
I also not typically film in Raw so there is that also. I plan to jump into Red once Nikon starts working assembly into another camera.
"It's not the plane, it's the pilot" -Peter "Maverick" Mitchell. But seriously, you don't need an Fx6, as A7s iii or Fx3 are the same hardware at a lower entry point and really better than crop sensor cameras like fx30. Most amateurs could even get away with an a6000 and a decent lens + a H4 handy recorder even!
hella transparent, hella dope, thank you for saving me money!
happy to help. Thanks for watching
It's been the Panasonic Lumix G81 (G85) for me. Great stabilisation, weather-sealed magnesium body, battery grip compatible, great image with the kit lens (the Lumix G Vario 12-60mm f/3.5-5.6) and the Xiaoyi 42.5mm f/1.8 portrait lens (for lowlight situations), excellent 4K (and no overheating) and-whatever they say-AF that I can live with, and those are everything!
Off topic question: Is this video 25FPS or 30FPS? I live in PAL region and when I uploaded 50FPS video, my US viewers complained that they want 60 😞 (if I upload 25 FPS, then they don't know it is not 30). What do you think, if I change all lights to LED, can I record in 60 FPS or I will still have some flickering?
I think you may still encounter flickering, as ordinary LEDs may flicker too, especially those which are dimmable. Any normal light that is directly connected to the power network will give you flickering, as it follows the 50 Herz frequency of the alternating current of the power network (PAL region), which would then not match with the frames per second of 60fps set in your camera (NTSC region).
You could probably do it if you get special flicker-free lights, like the - quite pricy - Aputure Accent B7c. If the light does essentially not flicker, the fps setting on the camera should not matter anymore and you would be able to capture flicker-free video.
this is 25fps.
thanks for great sharing 😍😍👏👏
thanks for watching
I recently purchased the a7 IV camera from B&H on May 19, 2024 (upgraded from a7 III). Unfortunately, I have encountered an issue with the Eye AF-C (Autofocus Continuous) feature while taking pictures. The Eye AF-C is enabled and set to recognize humans, but it does not seem to function correctly. The pictures are not sharp. it works perfectly tho when I shoot videos in S-Log3 and S-Cinetone. My only issue is when taking pictures. I use it for my daily work at college where I cover events and shoot videos... I even emailed Sony support to see if they can help. I really like the A7 IV after watching many of your videos, but right now I am kinda lost.
I would appreciate your assistance in resolving this problem. Thank you,
I do a lot of sports shooting, 60 percent basketball, and for that I'm needing to upgrade to an fx3 because at the moment my canon r8 (I used to do photography) just isn't cutting it with dynamic range, 4k60, overheating, etc, and I'm also thinking about getting a zve10 as a b cam
but iv never even considered getting an fx6, komodo, arri, etc, way too much
What should i get if all i have is the dji pocket 3 haha. Ive been wanting to get an interchangeable lens camera that shots good video but also not gonna kill my bank account or credit card
I had bmd pc4k that I sold and now using a Sony 6700. I only mis braw probably buy a sigma or a b1. For braw. I need af more than anything else
I just got an a6700 with a 70-200mm F4 Macro OSS II. Pretty sure I’ll be good for awhile.
That's so funny Jason. I actually thought all the overlay, noise and grain was actually an effect on your video, until you explained you're actually filming on a camcorder. :)
haha yeah an actual camcorder. A very dodgy one at that
As a beginner which is best i like portraits landscapes need one best suggestion. Full frame or apsc
Best lens for landscape portrait photography No one tells me a lot and I ask a lot of photographers
Your video is 10 minutes long, definitely not long-winded 😂😂😂
haha for telling people to not buy a new camera but also buy a new camera it might be
Throw that fx30 scene thsts at 6400 in neat video and youll be fine. Fx30 footsge cleans up insanely well in post
I love neat video! works a treat!
What did you prefer FX30 or a A7IV?
I would seriously advise people looking to upgrade to look at the used market first. Pretty much any camera that came out within the last 10 years should be good enough for most needs. Don't worry about the body too much invest in things like IR Cut filters, VNDs, CPLs and other filters. A lot of modern mirrorless cameras have IR pollution which can easily be fixed in camera if you get the right filter.
Personally as enticing as an FX3 is for me, I'm gonna stick with my S5ii and invest in a IR cut filter and work on mastering things like lighting.
yes. you are right. second hand market is always a good place to start
Hey Jason you are totally right! But I noticed one thing on my ZV-E1 that on the 2nd base ISO (12 800) I get a magenta/blue tint and there's more noise (not a lot) than the 1st base iso (640).
Is it just my camera that's faulty or does anyone else have this magenta/blue tint as well?
yes it comes down to the internal noise supression in the zv-e1. luckily with 10bit color you can grade it to match what you need providing you're not underexposing the image too much.
Awesome video!
thank you
i got an a6000 but it still really good camera video might be only 1080p but i mostly do photography and it amazing paired with good lense
yeah for photography that is where image quality is really hard to pick over the past 10-15 years into the DSLR cameras from now
Kinda like the cheap 25$ more
it certainly has its place
VHS and DVD used to look great on my old CRT too but not on my modern screens. 55 inch became the standard but i see 65 become the next standard and after that we are transitioning into 8K. Either that or TVs etc. will use those AI upscaling techniques more and more.
yeah. VHS only looks great if you are after the very nostalgic vibe. More of a filmmaking technique rather than a daily user
Imo Screens will die in the future, augmented reality will be the next step. Maybe the way we interact with cameras changes and instead of a still they capture a scene
bro i have the Sony a7 ii the autofocus is trash i need to upgrade
yes that is where you see your limitations. If you need reliable auto focus that falls under the "need" category for sure! I would recommend upgrade
Great video ;)!

A nice update in the near future could be 8k 60/120 or Open Gate with for example ~6000x4000 pixels with existing sensors. Not because of 8k. This is due to the very beautiful gimbal-like shots and small extra camera movements in post-production in a real 4K crop. That's the only thing I really miss about my a6700.
How come you being RUclipsr and telling people not to buy a new camera.😂 JK mate

Nice chat Mate! I have the Lumix S5 and I wanted the S5iix just for the cool look and autofocus reliability. However I have used my S5 so much I have learned to use the autofocus and it works for me so I am just sticking with the S5.
by the time you need a new camera I am sure there will be one with significant specs that will force you to upgrade. S5 is more than enough for most
