  • Shane Warne special : Nasser Hussain, David 'Bumble' Lloyd and Rob Key remember their friend. The biggest series in Test cricket begins next week when the Ashes gets under way at Edgbaston. But there will be one significant absentee following the tragic death last year of the greatest bowler of them all and latterly a huge personality in the commentary box in Shane Warne. Three of the people who knew him best - former England captain Nasser Hussain, former England coach David 'Bumble' Lloyd and managing director of England cricket Rob Key - came together for Mail Sport to remember the great man in a moving but hugely uplifting conversation. Cricket correspondent Paul Newman asked the questions…

    The world is a lesser place without The Great Shane Warne. An absolute genius on the cricket field and what a man off it. Rest in paradise Shane. We only wish you were English.

      We admired his genius on the park , we admired his commitment to Hampshire and the English counties , we admired him when retired he wasn't Shane Warne Aussie greatest but Shane Warne the cricketer where he always articulated that the game of cricket was THE important thing and we admired his generosity of his time which in professional sport that is a very rare thing .

    What a unique human-being and a sportsman. a lot of the greats and the greatest in their respective sports were admired but not loved because they were single minded and killers and thus were not able to switch off that competitiveness … Shane had that in spades on the field but was able to turn it off and that's why he is so loved EVEN by his foes.. it really harts that hes gone.. RIP genius and GOAT

    I could understand Warne not getting on with Langer that well because their characters are polar opposites - laid back and really intense. I suppose there was a bit of a clash between the old school approach favoured by Steve Waugh and Warne's rebellious streak.

    Baz-ball is like a sword with 2 edges, it can spectacularly backfire for england .Unlike 2005, no element of surprise here as Australia will know how england will play during ashes;

    I can’t think of a worse tribute for Warnie than coming from one of the most racist publications in the world. Warnie was one of the most genuine and passionate people I know, he loved teaching and learning about legspin, just passionate about the game. Meanwhile all the mail do is frighten people about boat people and people with dark skin.
