Pokemon was instantly iconic all over the world. Pretty much all 151 of them. Half Life had like three different human models that were reused for every character. MGS had some fun designs but it wasn't like Pokemon

I guess it has the benefit of covering the original Red/Green/Blue games from Japan, but since this is an industry award show presumably focused on games released in North America in 1998 that doesn't seem particularly relevant. Really curious as to whether this designation was used in any other official/press contexts.

On top of that, Tim Schaffer had left the company after the game came out. So you can tell by his acceptance speech, he seemed unenthusiastic, knowing the direction the company was taking.

Psycho Mantis… how crazy was his programming in the game? Same as having to suffer along with Snake when he’s being tortured. Zelda lacked the real life experience MGS had, not to mention the story with twists and turns.
