I feel like video games can have some of the most amazing and engrossing stories, especially with the immersive way you get to experience them. Tomb Raider also got me into gaming, I have played every one they've released! Love the idea of you spanning out into these other areas since we book lovers also have a variety of hobbies, especially us ADHD peeps! High five for endless hobbies and always satiating a craving for learning new things!

🏰 I have been also feeling in a creative slump, this video really resonated with me, i have been especially thinking about getting too focused on likes and algorithms, l’m still working on creating just because i want to. I’ve been thinking about reading some books about creative and subjects I’m interested in, so this comes in the perfect moment ❤🎉

Hey Joel! I don’t often comment on RUclips videos, but this video absolutely inspired me. I own The Creative Act and it’s been sitting on a shelf since release. Like you, I’ve been in a creative rut, and this video gave me the needed kick up my arse to get it on audible and listen to it.
This year, I want to try and create something every weekday for six months- whether it be a short story, a novel idea, a review, or taking a photograph or baking brownies. Five days a week, every week, I want to create something.
Thank you so much for this video- I know we don’t know each other, but I can’t help but feel like I’m on this creative journey alongside you. I can’t wait to see what you do! ❤

This was such a fantastic watch. As a digital artist who works in graphic design I have spent years waylaying personal projects and am finally getting back into challenging myself and learning new techniques. It's not quite a habit yet, but I am enjoying design as a whole more than I have in a long time and seeing other creative minds go through similar things is such a helpful reminder that we all need to fill our cup because we aren't machines that can just churn out creative content without engaging in art produced by others. I'm really looking forward to seeing your channel evolve!

I’ve been following you for ages and what I love most in the world is character development in real life. As someone who has adhd, loves books and reading, writing and film making, as well as many more random hobbies you have mentioned in this video it makes me really happy to listen to you speak about these things. You are multitalented and a creative to the core! Keep going

such a brilliant video and it reached me at the perfect time! as a fellow neurodivergent person struggling against the slump, your videos always motivate me to try to switch something up for myself, even if it's just picking up a book, putting on an outfit i like (which is fully cause your style always SLAYS) or, like today, making a start towards the things i want to achieve, however small that start is.
    thank you so much 🌞

Ahhhh watching this video felt like you have summed up my journey with creativity last year, Joel! I spent a long time going back and forth with music and I was really tired. Something felt incredibly off and I eventually acknowledged that I'm not in the same place with it anymore. But like you mentioned about yourself in this video, I am still a creative - I just want to be creative with other projects such as my writing. Doing this for me without no pressure feels like a whole weight off my shoulders and I'm falling in love with the learning all over again. Thank you for this video, it's good to know I'm not alone in this creative avenue! My name is Jules and my hobbies are writing, reading, wrestling (watching not doing 😂), dancing and watching sitcoms!

🏰 I feel all of this so much. I used to draw as often as I breathed, I went to college and then university to channel it into a career (animation), but graduated into a recession and never made it into the industry. I don't draw at all now, there's so much guilt and shame tied up in it, and ongoing mental health struggles. Turning what you love into a career is a dangerous thing.
For 2023 I wanted to start creating bookish content (books being another lifelong love) but my mental health deteriorated even more and not reading just became something else I beat myself up about. I'm trying to start out small now on Instagram, but the anxiety and self doubt are still huge. I'm tempted to pick up this book and see if it can help me as much as it helped you, but I'm afraid to find out I can't be helped.
As for my other hobbies - they're all on hiatus lately, but I cross stitch, I just started embroidery a few months ago. I also want to book-bind, I went on a course last November and I've been collecting tools and materials for the last few months. I'm also a lifelong gamer and '24 will mark my 9th year in FFXIV ❤️

It's great hearing you talk so passionately again! I'm currently in the midst of a creative slump with job hunting as a cover designer in publishing and volunteering. Everything I'm doing is to hopefully help me get into the industry, but it sucks that I've left behind passion projects and hobbies to prioritise updating my cv. I'm hoping to get back to gaming and finally learning watercolour this year, and to take it slow!

This was an amazing experience, the editing was excellent and I can relate with most of the stuff you said. Well I always been everywhere. I've loved science, drawing, etc. and couldn't stick to one hobby, or on one thing like other people. Some people like soccer, some like gaming and I, I like a lot of things. And I hate it when people try to box me to one thing and get surprised when I tell them I like other things too. It used to always feel like a flaw, like something was wrong with me. I tried many times to stick to one thing and failed dismally, because honestly I get bored easily when I do one thing all the time. But then I came to a point where I realized that being an "octopus" - liking and enjoying a lot of things is what makes me special.
My name is Jeremia and my hobbies are: Origami, drawing, fiction writing, screenwriting, filmmaking, reading, watching movies, doodling, zengtangle, songwriting, poetry, listening and talking about music, watching cool science videos online, creating content, learning paper quilling and I am still discovering other new things as I go.

Joel 😭 I'm so moved by you and this video. With the video itself, I love how you're experimenting with different types of cinematography. The attention and care you put into the art of your video comes through so clearly. As far the content is concerned, I feel like my nervous system reset because it was reminded "you're not alone." I graduated from undergrad a semester early and now find myself a week out from working full-time for two years. I'm in a creative industry that I want to be in, but similar to your experience of burning out when your creative hobby turned into your creative job, I also burned out on the creative pursuits I enjoyed. Calling it now, this is the year for the dragons to reclaim their creativity. 🐉 So, hi, my name's Alyssa and I enjoy bouldering, building Petit Blocks, playing video games, and I look forward to developing my creative process this year 🏰

I guess I can add this book to my tbr right next to the artist's way. Also hi, my name is De'Siree and I'm a cozy creator that likes to read, rearrange her room/ obsess over home decor, photography, cozy games, jpop boybands, watching anime/ asian dramas/ true crime documentaries, collecting pretty pre-built keyboards, collecting physical media (CDs, Blurays, cassettes, etc.) anyways I have a lot of niche interests lol I'm obsessed with this new video Joel. Cinematography was beautiful and the sigma 18-35 lens is addictive! Best lens I've ever used! Can't wait to see what you do next on this creative journey that you're taking us on.

The way that I am in literal tears because you perfectly articulated everything I’ve been feeling for the better part of last year 🥹 I have a main RUclips channel that took off during the pandemic, but slowly I’ve been falling into a creative rut as well. Content that used to excite me became a chore. It’s easy to slip into that mindset of “sticking with what you know”, but it hasn’t made me happy for a long time. I’ve been wanting to challenge myself and fall in love with creating again for 2024, and I’ve been blessed with this video lol 🫶🏼 I’m ordering that book as I write this! I don’t know if you’ll ever see this comment, but all the best to you and I’m excited to see what you create next ✨✨✨
Edit: PS, we could literally be the same person because all of the hobbies you got going on are identical to mine 😂 gaming and books, I justtt started crocheting in January as well, and I have a new pc and keyboard lined up to build as an upgrade to my current setup for trying out streaming lol!

I burnt myself out on writing, which used to be a huge part of my life. It stopped being fun and started feeling burdensome and like it had to be marketable and say something important. Today, I wrote a short fanfic about Aziraphale and Crowley because I've been thinking about everyone's favorite ineffable husbands, and it was so much fun! Oscar Wilde was right, art shouldn't be taken so seriously.

It's great you had a creative reset. Creativity definitely is both experimental as well as experiential. Changes in creative interests and styles is to be expected over time. Even if a creation isn't to be considered a success in retrospective, objective view, going through that process of creation is important to develop as an artist. Creating in public makes it hard to let go of harsh self-criticism, but being kind to yourself is essential.
Many creators have to maintain a balanced, structured life to be able to create most productively.
I bought a book by Mason Curry recently that you might find of interest: Daily Rituals: How Artists Work.

I’m sorry, but the quality of this vlog? STUNNING 🏰✨
Hobbies? I’m slowly picking them back up after the birth of my little one (she’s 2 🥹). My main ones are reading, text-based roleplay, and video games, but I’ve also been doing a lot more art and drawing, baking/cooking, Dungeons and Dragons (I recently started my first IRL campaign with my husband and our friends), and yoga. There are so many other things I’d like to try (mending clothes, making my own fermented food, getting back into photography after creative burnout), but it’s a slow process introducing new things.
