Exciting goals. Let's have a great 2024! Your book sounds fun. I did 100 books for Goodreads this year. Currently, I'm a few books behind, but I have several on the go at the same time; I'm a mood reader. I decided to add reading content to my weekly planner. I did some micro planning there with regard to tracking my reading goals. I'm also tracking book acquisitions/spending, which is mostly used. (My actual reading journal is multiyear and has a shelfie for every year since 2016 along with some series trackers and some favorite author and series spreads. I don't track a lot of data, so that is why the journal is mutliyear.) My 2024 reading goals this year: Besides the Goodreads challenge, I want to focus on the physical books I own. I have too many unread books and books I feel "meh" about. My goals is to unhaul 100 books minimum, whether I read them or not. I plan to put up a Little Free Library to motivate myself to consistently unhaul. I had a mini-TARDIS built and I love it. My theme this year is also Asian fiction translations and Asian American authors, and I want to read at least one per month. I have 24 books that I own, and I want to make a dent in that stack, which is by my bed. I want to read some audiobooks for books whose format is enhanced by the audio performance, like the Lady Hardcastle series. Murder in the Family, and Daisy Jones. I have the Stephen Fry in America AB already. In addition, I want to read at least one non-fiction and one LBGTQIA+ book per month, and I'm ahead on those goals. (You can edit your goodreads challenge goal until the end of the year. ;) )
Same here! A few years ago I realized there was a lot of really fun and beautiful nonfiction out there, and since then it's slowly taken over the majority of my reading. I know some readers who like lit fit that have started liking "literary nonfiction" as well.
I think because of the extensive marketing of self-help books and the hype over them, a lot of people equate nonfiction to self-help books when actually the realm of nonfiction is as expansive as fiction!
When it comes to the whole recommending books, while you haven't done videos like that, you are the reason I read books like Raybearer, Witches Steeped in Gold, Cameron Battle and All Boys Aren't Blue. So I greatly support more recs coming from you.
If you want to read more nonfiction, I recommend trying to find books in the same general areas that already interest you. If you like fantasy adventures, for example, then you would probably enjoy nature and travel writing. I also recommend reading nonfiction through audiobooks if you're just getting started. Some of my recent favorites are Eve by Cat Bohannon, Refusing Compulsory Sexuality by Sherronda J Brown, The Wave by Susan Casey, and A Woman of No Importance by Sonia Purnell
Listen I added almost every fantasy book from your autumn TBR vid to my own TBR! You’re SO qualified! Also tell us where the PJO hat is from; it’s a need 🏰
So here for the Cozy Curator! Your goals for 2024 sound like the making of an excellent reading year. I hope you enjoy Wheel of Time, it became a mental health lifeline for me during the pandemic. A rich and vibrant fantasy world to escape to.
If you’re interested I think the internet could use more videos that compare books and movies. Because yeah maybe books are better most of the time, but sometimes films choose a different way to tell the story and you can see things that you didn’t catch in the book. And I think it would be awesome to compare these two art forms together 😊
okay but i am also a chronic 'not finishing series i've started' person, so i definitely hear you on that aim for next year ! I look forward to some longer cosy videos and seeing what videos you share with us! :)
In 2022, friends and I started doing a reading wrap up presentation hang out sesh and this year I'm going to add a Goals section. I also set my goal this year (and every year) to 100 and NEVER make it. In 2022 I hit 90 which is probably the most I've ever read in a year and never hitting 100 is always so discouraging for me. In 2024, I'm retiring my goal # and seeing how many I read without the pressure.
Aahh I'm so excited for your content next year!!! And I'm so excited for the next stages in your book journey!! That art is BEAUTIFUL!!! I hope you're taking care of yourself!
when it comes to getting into crime books I definitely think you need to read Patricia Highsmith. She's a crime thriller writer and I love the Talented Mr Ripley series!
starting a book journal really helped me keep reading through the year!!! i loved writing things in it almost everyday which lead to me wanting to read so i could write more
If you are looking for portal fantasy I highly recommend you try the Wayward Children series by Seanan McGuire. They are Hugo nominated, novellas, with the ninth one being released in January.
I feel like I haven't seen your videos in forever! Love your content, I will break whatever book buying ban I am on when you have a release date for that book in your brain
If you want to read "crime" books, I think you might enjoy the werwolf crime/mlm romance series Big Bad Wolf by Charlie Adhara🐺💫 the first book is called The Wolf at the Door. And if you're looking for epic/high fantasy maybe: the realm of the elderlings by Robin Hobb?
Please share your self-published book finds when you do read them. When I was on Twitter, I discovered self published authors that way. Now I have no way of knowing about them. Most don't market themselves as much and the ones who do get eaten alive by the algorithms. ☹
I've felt very similar with trading in some reading time for other hobby time!

I enjoy reading non fiction! I feel like it gets a bad rap for being boring, but there are a lot of really interesting non fiction books out there.
