My instrument is called "hurdy gurdy" and it has its roots in the medieval times. It works like a mechanical violin with a wheel bow, that can play bass, melody and rhythm all at once.

Hi Patty! I've been attempting to build a gurdy with my father for the past 6 months. It's looking VEERY cool so far despite it being the very first instrument we've ever built. We're baiscally "copying" Guilhem Desq's gurdy look with the dragon head . my point is: we'de like the gurdy to be electro-acoustic and none of us know precicely what pickup options we have and we also don't really know where to place themon the gurdy. The objective is to be able to use pedal effects, amp, looper, all that good stuff. Could you please tell us what you know abbout the subject of electrefying a hurdy gurdy in a Q&A Video for example?? :)

Thank you. Just discovered the Hurdy Gurdy a short time ago (your solo version of "The Longing" was the first up when I plugged hurdy gurdy into the utube search function), and been wondering bout that since. Watched all the build vids I could find, and even perused build plans and all have suggested gravity. Amazed that it keeps up.

Do you have to be able to play an instrument to make one?
It's helpful, because then you know how it should sound and can make appropriate corrections, etc. Walter is a very proficient player besides being one of the best luthiers in the german-speaking area ;)

Ich bin leider total unbegabt was Musik anbelangt, dafür mangelt es an handwerklichem Geschick in keinster weiße. Würde sehr gerne Lernen ein so tolles Instrument anzufertigen.

How about finding a musical instrument and practise it? Because even talent is wasted if you don't practise and someone who practises a lot can beat someone who only relies on pure talent! Even something as simple as a recorder can sound magnificent with loads of practise. And it isn't expensive at all!
