Honestly I think the “wedding boom” is definitely real. I wanted a September 2022 wedding. I booked my venue in the beginning of December 2020 and there were only 2 sundays left for that month at the time! 😳

I think the Boom is real. We booked our venue 13 months out and still had to settle for a Sunday. Which was fine because Jamie was right and a non-Saturday is cheaper. Right after booking the venue’s prices went up, dramatically. Then Generation Tux just sent that email about a slight increased prices due to increase demand in 2022 which is ok because they did increase stock. It’s still possible to plan but I’m seeing some potential of the Boom in GA.we also saw a lot of our circle getting engaged and planning for 2022, so we went ahead and decided to do Save the Dates 10 months out. Either way boom or no boom I wouldn’t have been able to do this without Jamie.

I went to a venure last month that is fully booked for 2022, only had 4 Saturdays left in 2023, and had 7 2024 weddings booked already. I thought I was crazy for looking so early but I guess not lol.

I’m getting married 10 months from today in New England and have definitely noticed it a little bit, there’s certainly been some additional pressure from a lot of vendors I’ve contacted like “hey just so you know we’ve been getting a lot of inquiries…”. I also definitely think it’s impacted responsiveness across the board.

  • @ChristineWoodington
    @ChristineWoodington 2 года назад +8

I booked them early out of caution and because vendors warned me rates were going up, but I got engaged Dec 2020, and so far no issues booking vendors for my May 2022. The only bummer is stupid inflation for my venue food up 17%!!

A month away from our wedding, which we’ve taken only four months to plan. Vendors/venues have been easy to find. I can see the “boom” potentially being an issue in April - October 2022, but things are still pretty chill in the off season (no pun intended). And Jamie, your makeup looks great! I am a wedding planner in Milwaukee, WI and the boom is definitely happening here. We've gotten a ton of new inquiries and had to turn away a good amount of couples because we're already fully booked on their date. And there's been a huge shift with most of our new inquiries wanting full planning instead of just month of coordination help. We've also run into a lot of other vendors being booked already when trying to help full planning couples choose their vendors. It's making me nervous for the craziness next year is going to be! haha

I’m probably going to just go to the courthouse to make it legal (I am sick of waiting) but don’t have the cash to spend to compete with other couples right now. I will probably wait until 2024 because I want to save more money up to have a great day. I just don’t want to wait legally anymore regardless and am sick of wanting to make it perfect before going ahead with it all. Life is already messy. Planning is just too much for me at the moment. I've been engaged for two and a half years, I started getting to plan properly (ie, making inquiries, doing tours and consultations, and booking) nine months out for a wedding in a vacation and wedding destination at the height of vacation season next year. I'm absolutely not at all saying others aren't running into these problems, but despite the fact that I wasn't booking that far in advance and that it's in a very in demand location, I genuinely haven't had any trouble. I've ended up with my first choice vendors, I'm coming in under budget and don't feel like the quotes I'm seeing are too much higher than what I saw when I was trying to think about planning a few months before the pandemic started. Some of them are a hair higher, I would say namely flowers are a bit higher. But the venue, caterer, and rentals are all more or less the same price--like, if they're any more, they're within a couple hundred dollars of what we budgeted for the total cost of those items based on inquiries and quotes two years ago. Certainly nothing beyond normal annual increases, and some of them are much less than what we anticipated. Honestly, our vendors have all just been so engaged and encouraging and helpful and lovely. Like, the excitement has really felt palpable to me from our vendors: they all seem really excited, they all seem to really want to help us make this happen and be an amazing part of our day, and they are all so kind about the whole situation and how long we've been waiting to make this happen. This isn't to say everyone has this experience--I'm sorry if you're not having this experience. But it's just to reiterate that there's tons of hope, and we shouldn't be afraid based on this rhetoric!

I got engaged February 2021, and we set our date for March 2022. March is considered a non-peak month where we live so that worked to our advantage. Additionally, we opted for a Thursday wedding so as to cut down on venue costs... this also helped in ensuring preferred vendor availability. I did the vast majority of vendor booking between April and May 2021 and had very, very few vendors say they were unavailable.

We’re getting married in May 2022 - had a little trouble booking vendors (mostly hair and makeup) I found with venues, flexibility is 100% key. We chose a Friday wedding so we could get married in May instead of having to wait for a Saturday opening in July! Our tux place warned us about their inventory issues so we made sure all our guys got fitted ASAP so we would be locked in. It’s definitely stressful hearing about the “boom” but it’s manageable!!

We started looking in January 2021 and I had 25 no's from bakeries for my date, 20 no's from florist, and 5 no's from DJs when I was booking everything last spring. That is 1.5 years out! I definitely felt the boom in Austin. I fully planned my wedding 14 months out and I had to compete for all my ideal vendors within my price range. Just a few weeks ago my planner confessed one of her other clients tried booking her wedding at my venue on my date. In my opinion, sure don’t panic like it’s the end of the world, but save yourself some headaches and plan accordingly. I almost ended up in a competition for my photographer with another bride. The other one I had issues with was my venue. Like a miracle our anniversary was available, yet almost no other Saturday in the month was.

There is a venue booking boom in my area. I did google searchs and we're on a budget. Many of the venues in our area and budget were either completely booked, had summers (the worst time in AZ for outdoor) (we're having our dogs involved so that also limits us), or had some holidays for 2022. So 2023 made way more sense. I love our venue and we also are getting way more for our budget then other things

  • @sagella54

I think it absolutely depends on the region of the country you live in. I got engaged in May 2021 and live in the Northeast; my fiance and I immediately began to look for venues for just a general month (Sept 2022) and only two venues out of the 6 or more we reached out to were free for any weekend date that month. As time went on specific vendors were harder to obtain. We were ahead of the timeline for both our hotel block and floral designer and it still took weeks to find vendors for both that were free for our date. However I will say the prices we've seen aren't overinflated at all, and we were still able to get everything we wanted/needed and are working with some fantastic people. There was just some added, unexpected stress in the process. I am really happy we started as fast as we did (may have helped I've been watching these videos for a long time before getting engaged LOL)

I didn’t hear about this as an actual thing until now but I had venues telling me that they have 2022 completely booked because of the postponement of 2020 and 2021 wedding so it’d be best for me to wait another year. Lots of places gave us price info for food but stressed that the numbers aren’t updated and that even in a couple months from now depending on our inflation the number may change again. I ended getting an ugly cheap venue because it was all that wasn’t booked, we are bringing our own food because catering costs are skyrocketing with the cost of food. I’m in Ohio and a year ago Bacon was $3 now its $10, all our local restaurants have had to raise their prices quite a bit. It makes sense for caterers to do it too but I can’t have the uncertainty to agree on $17 per person then because of inflation the bill jump to $25 which is what they are expecting. It’s a bad time for a wedding, I’m 6 months out and all I have is my dress, and my venue. Lots of road blocks

Only issues I had was finding a reasonable and available bakery for our cake- we are getting married Easter weekend. We found one, we are fine.
Other then that the only thing I didn’t get my first choice was my date for a venue we wanted. We looked at 9 venues, all September and December dates were gone so we got our third choice for April.
I also didn’t want to wait til 2023. Other then that I pretty much got what we wanted over all.

Definitely aware of the price increase of vendors year to year. But most of the vendors that are increasing prices the highest are the popular ones in my area that are always booked. Look for the smaller businesses and help them grow!
Tip for ordering attire at a discount: Shop for your season in the off season. My wedding is summer so most of dresses in the summer colors are on clearance/sale in winter.

Wedding boom is real in my city. I couldn’t get my date for a couple different venues for my 2023 wedding. I work in weddings through multiple avenues and it’s our cities busiest year since 1987.

Im a 2023 bride in CT and booked all my vendors in Sept or Oct of 2021. I had MANY caterers tell me they're already booked for my date as of fall 2021. Maybe CT or the northeast is more affected by this but the industry is definitely impacted here

I've only experienced the "boom" slightly...the venue we were interested in had one date left in the fall of 2022 (October), so we booked it as soon as the event staff told us it was the last day. Other than that, I was able to book the caterer and photographer just fine! (I also love planning things ahead of time, so I got all of the major booking done 11-12 months in advance). We're going to ask friends and family to help us with videography and DJ, and I found an artificial floral arrangement site...so I'm lucky to be finished with selecting my date and vendors!

Our wedding is December 9th 2023, we booked the big ticket items 6 months ago but started researching a year ago. Prices in that 6months almost doubled but the minimum price hike was 30%, we didn’t get the photographer we wanted because she was already booked on that date, we had to go to another (lovely) photographer that charged considerably more so we had to take a lesser package for our money, our venue had 3 other enquiries for our date, bridal boutiques (I’m plus size so limited in shops) have a 4 month waiting list. We haven’t been able to find a decent florist that will do church and table center pieces for less than €10k that is available on our date. One string quartet we enquired to was booked already. I cannot find a wedding hairdresser available even though it will only be needed for 4 people (mother of the bride and groom included). Certainly here in Ireland the boom is real.

We experienced the effects of the boom when booking our church. Granted it’s a very popular church and they have 5 weddings each weekend, 3 on Saturday and 2 on Sunday. We started looking a little over 12 months out, and all the 3pm Saturday spots were booked for all of June and half of July. Some (most?) of these were weddings that were postponed from 2020.
We ended up doing Sunday instead. Sadly it didn’t save us any money since the church and reception venue charges the same price regardless.

June 2022 wedding and I haven’t had that difficult of a time planning/booking what I want. But that could also be because we settled for a Thursday wedding (which I actually prefer to a Sunday wedding) However, this is because I really only wanted to get married in late spring or early fall so that didn’t leave much wiggle room considering those are both prime wedding times.

We’ve felt the boom but particularly with venues. My venue was fully booked for 2022 by February of 2021 I believe in part to a lot of postponements. Other than that I’m not seeing a lot of issues finding the other vendors in my community.

This happened to me. I recon it's probably my area has seen an uptick in weddings for June 2022. Struggled to even get a vendor to do my chair covers and decor. I'm having to DIY absolutely EVERYTHING (apart from the cake) because it is a nightmare to book stuff. I need a marquee but can't get one because it's all booked up. Just gonna have to chance it with the weather and have a garden party. Venue is our church, we are going to have light refreshments afterwards for the guests on the lawn outside. 🙄 It's gonna be a challenge but lack of vendor Availability has been a huge factor in my decision to DIY it all

I keep hearing everyone say to rush because of this boom, but we've been flexible and have had minimal issues!! We booked our June 2022 wedding in March of 2021. Some of the dates we wanted weren't available, but we were flexible because we loved the venue. Booked the photographer in May and a couple were booked, but most were available still. My biggest fear is ordering decor items or gifts so 6 months out I'm trying to order a lot of that. As long as your flexible and open to different vendors or alternative solutions like Facebook Marketplace there are options!!

I didn't even know about this report. I am 23 so most of my friends are graduating college and everything. I just thought it was cause I am at that age where people get married right after college and then like because of COVID being "done" (I don't have better wording so no one come at me). In the past year I have gone to 3 weddings, and have probably seen close to 2 dozen announcements mostly in the past 4 or 5 months but since last December to today. I was surprised I saw your video because I was like "Wait this isn't normal?!" Now I am not getting married till probably June of 2023 so I am not too worried about finding some things. But I do wonder if more people are getting engaged than most years.

I would also say it feels real for the venue and available dates. I'm in Canada and I was looking at Aug/Sept/Oct 2022 in early 2021 and my top 2 locations only had 3 dates (Friday, Saturday) open in all 3 of those months.
In the end I went with option 3 and took their last date available.

The boom is very real here in New England. I have multiple vendors saying they're booked for even more minor services (like hair) and we are still 20 months out! We already picked a venue, but the other places we looked at (where I'm still on the mailing list) now show only a few Saturdays left in 2023...and those are in the middle of muddy March or late in gloomy November, not nice summer/fall dates.
Here's what I wonder about stats like "only X% say they're having trouble finding vendors"...you could have no increase in the # saying they're having trouble while, at the same time, everyone bumps things up 6-12 months' earlier. Like it used to be you would plan 8 months ahead and be ok, but now everyone is planning 18 months ahead to be ok? I don't know the real timelines, but the whole thing seems crazy to me. I'm thankful for having a long engagement to prepare, that's for sure!

As a florist I can say that there is a worldwide shortage of flowers right now and because of the fact that they are products farms are trying to catch up but they can only do so much. Also most florist have to import their product from Columbia and due to government issues in South America a lot of the workers are striking up due to taxes being raised but wages were not. So there’s no one to even pick the flowers if they are ready in the field. The supply chain for hard goods are also extremely backed up or not being produced due to a change in supplier so things like floral foam and paint are very hard to come by. I’m getting married in June and opted to have bud vases on most of my tables and nice centerpieces on the two parents tables so that might could at least get some variety but not have to pay exorbitant prices as much that hurts my florist heart.

I think historical context is also important. 25% increase isn't alot in relation to how big the US is, however we haven't seen this high of a number since the 1980s. So some of the 'newer' vendors could be seeing increases in bookings than say the last 2 years. But this "boom" could also just be attributed to couples booking earlier than normal thus creating a shortage🤷‍♀️. Context is key, great job breaking it down Jamie!!

The biggest hurdle for us was securing a date with the Catholic Church. After that it’s been pretty smooth sailing. But yes initially when my fiancé said he wanted to pick a July 2022 date in November 2021 I panicked a little. We did have to settle with a Friday wedding but honestly it has its added bonus of some stuff being cheaper

We’re definitely seeing the boom in Asheville, NC. Luckily we had a long engagement, so we got in early, but nearly every venue we spoke with was extremely tight for an autumn wedding in 2022 (which, to be fair, is the busiest time for that location). My biggest recommendation is not to use The Knot and Weddingwire as more than a jumping off point. Use FB groups, Yelp, ask around with vendors you’ve already found, because the ones paying to be seen first are the ones who go the quickest!
