Your cone filter is doing NOTHING! Performance air filter dyno tested

  • You won't believe the difference of a high flow air filter on an Audi RS6. Or maybe you will. I did. We know our RS6 has 559 horsepower, so what difference will an air filter make?
    We used a dyno dynamics rolling road to test the before and after results of a brand new performance air filter vs a disgusting dirty Audi air filter. We didn't even unstrap it - a clean mythbusting back to back test.

    Maybe if the ecu read the new filter and the extra air flow maybe the car gain some hp...with the second or third dyno..maybe

    Not to mention the size of this stock Audi filter is massive already. The two options are more surface area for intake- or less micron filtration.

  • @YourDailyDriver

    In all fairness, the stock filter basically is already a performance filter

  • @andrxito

    After a single run? Did you reset long term adaptations? Cars literally have short and long term knock and MAF adaptations that need to be reset if you wanted to be completely fair.

  • @wtf45amg56
    @wtf45amg56 3 года назад

    If you replace the air filter without the adapter you won't make any gains. For what I know on my car the stock intake is 2.75" and the new pipercross one is 4". If your stock adapter stays the same and you just put an air filter with bigger diameter, your gains will be marginal to none.

    You need wait a week or 2 for the engine to get used to the new air filter,drive it about for a month then Dino it ,I assure you it will be higher ,mine stock filter was 560 then bmc (best air filter ) used by Mrc (best rs6 tuners in uk ) drove it few month for ect to get used to new mod then 578 hp slightly better mpg and better sound to , so yes they do work 👍🏻 that cheap piper cross I am not sure tho , he urself a bmc one pal

    Nice to see a comparison but the problem with using this car in the test is the stock intake design has great flow already.
    Audi have spent years and money in development. Wouldn't expect an rs intake to be shit compared to a smaller companies intake like ramair.
    Would be interested to see if a full intake upgrade made any difference. But could imagine it would probably result the same.

    • @vPerformance
      @vPerformance  4 года назад +1

      Interestingly, Audi changed this single-filter design to 2 smaller filters when they did the facelift in 2015. There's a very expensive Eventuri intake which replaces those 2 filters with an "optimised" design. It's all carbon fibre and it looks very slick, but I've never seen anyone dyno test it. I'm certainly not spending £1500 on an intake for an experiment though!

  • @upsidedown4155
    @upsidedown4155 4 года назад +1

    In my experience unless you have done substantial modding such as bigger turbo, intercooler, remap etc
    The aftermarket filters make no real difference on a stock vehicle setup as the video proved, it may sound different but thats about it,
    The really cheap cone filters tend to be potential for more damage to the engine then anything else,
    As if you look closely the joints where they are glued tend to have gaps from poor design and manufacturing which allows larger debris to enter the intake which is the whole reason for a filter,
    And when using performance filters it is vital to clean and oil them regular or they just become a restriction
    Respect buddy 🤘

    • @vPerformance
      @vPerformance  4 года назад

      Yeah you need to go a long wayon modding before the filter is the weakest point! I'll check out the build quality on the filter - good tip - I've got a 2nd one here which I could dissect.

      @@vPerformance will say genuine quality ones are good depending on how your using the motor but on stock setup its just a pretty label for benefits, a mates fabia BLT fmic, boosty hybrid turbo, straight thru exhaust , map and as we were hitting the limit of other components with 230bhp at the wheel on the dyno a pipercross panel filter made a difference, just had to get the front panel intake off a pd180 cupra i think it was and it deffo helped because it was sucking way more air then oem intended , i'm mainly referring to the cheap no brand filters that people get off wish etc and experience the placebo effect cause "more noise more power" lol

      @@upsidedown4155 it all depends on the car. We can agree, it doesn't work for this car but or maybe any other Audi but some cars will benefit on a stock tune; maybe only 5 or 10 hp but it will be better than this. That's not bad for a drop in replacement filter

    Load of rubbish to be honest.
    Aftermarket air filters provide better and cleaner airflow than standard, the vehicle needs to learn this over time so a dyno moments after fitting is a completely pointless test.
    I've used pipercross on all my bikes and cars and have experienced better response, sound and power delivery. You should remake this video after it's been fitted for a week or so, and not just one dyno run either, they can fluctuate as you mentioned 559 was the BEST run, not the only run. Yet you only did one run after to show a few BHP less, i'd say that's next to impossible to lose 11 bhp.
