- More game show fun now. My previous episodes of Big Break seem to have been popular so here is another one. The snooker stars joining Jim and John are Peter Ebdon, Ken Doherty, and Terry Griffiths. Not entirely sure when this was recorded, but it says 1993 at the end. Thanks to benriggers for sending me this episode.

What a show!!! For all of us kids, parents, elderly, dogs, cats, hamsters and whatever else, the 90s was a really special time all round. The best tv, best music, just the best of everthing. Imagine wanting to stay in now instead of going out just to watch terrestial TV!!! They stay in now to play video games or binge on Netflix. Not alot kept me inside as a kid, but Saturday night tele during the 90s managed it with ease!!!!!!!!!
nailed it really well with that comment.
Ahhh mate.. you put it perfectly. Yeh me too man.. Saturday night tv was the only thing that kept me in aswell haha. Peace and love my man x
Mate I couldn't have said it better!
Ok boomer,
@@majoraslb4311 wrong generation, but nice try.
22:05 “Go on Terry, don’t let *me* slow you down”
Bloody brilliant!!
Such a good show! It's a shame modern TV shows aren't as lax with the rules, I love the "just for laughs" attitude. I would say bring it back but I feel it could never be the same.
ebdon playing at the speed of light with long, flowing hair. this i thought i'd never see
Great show watching this on a satdee night was part of my preparation for going out on the lash.
Haahahaha wel you must be older then me mate I remember watching this eating my supper at my nana and grandads before going to bed haha
I loved this show especially the theme tune jv and Jim actually had pretty good chemistry
Used to enjoy Big Break regularly in the 90s on a Saturday. This was a family orientated game show. Nowadays on a Saturday, it's all festered with Talent-based shows, and a poor man's Blind Date in Take Me Out!
+LIVERNIL723 "Take me out" sounds more like they're gonna get capped in the arse...
Yep! Its all rubbish nowadays. I barely even switch my tele on over the last few years. I am on RUclips instead watching old 80s and 90s TV shows like this one! Saturday night in the 90s was truly a special time. We normally had steak for tea or my dad ordered a chinese or a curry. Those were the days!!! Then finish it all off with 90 minutes of Match of the Day...if I could stay awake that long after a long day of being out playing and getting dirty in a muddly field somewhere!!!
@@vxrdrummer Fantastic read and great to see there are like-minded individuals who value both TV and Family :-)
@@LIVERNIL723 absolutely! I like to watch shows with my son and enjoy a nice evening in him. It's a shame that children nowadays will never know the Joy of 90s television whilst sitting in with you family and watching all together!
@@vxrdrummer Maybe consider editing this bit of your comment (I like to watch shows with my son and enjoy a nice evening in him. ) 🤣
Jim makes a brilliant host can't wait to see him soon in Scunthorpe
Carry on Terry, don’t let me slow you down lmfao 👍👍👍
Typical BBC1 Saturday Night 1993 was - Dad's Army, Noel's House Party, Big Break, Casualty, Challenge Anneka, Match of the Day and a movie. Fantastic Saturday night line up, do you agree?
To be honest I'd usually be down to the local Ex-Servicman's to play Pool or Snooker when this finished...so no movie or match of the day!
Thank's for this, brings back extremely fond memories of my childhood!
The 90 year old chap looked in better shape than I do at a little over a third of his age.
When Virgo said, "the ponytail himself, Peter Ebdon" I thought he was being sarcastic!
So nostalgic for me, I remember watching this on Saturday nights. Followed by Casualty I think. Takes me back to the good old days, when life was a bit more simple. Ken Doherty hasn’t changed much in 30 years
Never knew Ebdon had a ponytail haha!! This is pretty good.
I wish they'd bring this back with Jim and John
Jim wouldn't be PC enough these days. Can't stand him now.
"You got Terry Griffiths" - Peter Ebdon "Hold my beer".
Griffiths and ebdon on the same show, can’t believe the finished it all in half an hour
Actually, Ebdon was one of the fastest players early on (around this time). Made way too many unforced errors though...hence the slowing down.
Snooze fest lol
It's amazing looking back at this just how snobby we've become, these days if you said half the stuff he said on TV you'd be fired or something
they should bring this back
Dennis Taylor would be fun, or even Steve Davis for that matter.
Yes, definitely one to bring back. They'd probably mess it up though like they have every other retro gameshow lol. Why not bring both original presenters back? They may have got sick of it back then but they might jump at the chance these days. What ive always wondered is if the Snooker players had a monetary incentive themselves for potting balls/doing well
@Slave2PaperWithInkOn Jesus not McIntyre
Some classic shows they should bring back:
Bullseye
Big Break
I can't think of any at this momment.
You'd need a good host like Davidson though and there's not many of his ilk around in the BBC.
Thanks for sharing these classics! Off to look for more.
Been watching a few of these ,and like him or not Jim Davidon does some gtreat voice impersonations.
It's hard to believe that Peter Ebdon once had that much hair!
Aww, Back to the Future 2. I probably watched this first time around
Bloody hell never seen Peter move so fast! And with a horses mane! What's going on here haha!?
If they bring this back you know it will be presented by rylan
This was filmed in 1991 and Ebdons just on his 5th red
Back when things were fun, it makes me sad to see how far the world has fallen
Great show :)
oh my the yellow ball selection joke smh Jim lol
Jim and John are the dynamic duo of the 90s
Could you imagine the BBC doing joke like this now, nah nor can I 😂😂😂
4:20 - why Davidson would never get on the Beeb again.
Yes, because it was totally unnecessary comment. A yellow ball, so what, why go for the Chinese joke? Jim could not help himself.
Do they have yellow ball in Hong Kong?
Ahhhh they don’t make shows like this anymore
@Leeswinburn
I love john Virgo when he says the ponytail himself Peter Ebdon.
I love Bill. I wonder what age he got too.
I think that is the fastest Ebdon has ever played. Shame really. :)
This was broadcast on 11 September 1993
***** You are right, I see the listings of it on the BBC Genome site. genome.ch.bbc.co.uk/schedules/bbcone/london/1993-09-11
Never forget
That was my birthday
The fastest Ebdon has ever played.
Nope, as I've said in another comment, he was fast early on.
Took Ken’s ticket at the cinema in 2001 🧡🧡💚❤️
I'd rather watch this than the bloody X factor. TV gold from the 90s.
Also having a 90yr old contestant on a show where answering questions quickly and without needing them repeated which wastes time for their player worked well!
Happy 69th birthday John!
Agreed........enjoyed this
"Pot as many balls as you can" 😂
What happened to Back to the Future II? It was meant to come on after this.
@Leeswinburn
John Virgo says well like i said so many times what you need on big break is someone very quick around the table a fast lot of panache so Maureen what you like a trick shots because you've got Terry Griffiths.
This cannot be Peter Ebdon. Potted 4 balls in 30 seconds?
If only he had the additional 10 seconds, probably could have had 5 or 6.
His hair was clearly the source of his power
''They'll love that in Hong Kong...A Yellow Ball''
@26:25 "We gotta be fair" - Jim Davidson, like there isn't blatant cheating all over the place on this programme. lol
Blimey Peter Bon 'ed with hair!
magic great stuff
I'm a bus and I find this dyslexic.
What a theme
Everyone I know has a Hot water tap on the right.
jim davidson asked bill "how young might you be, sir?" and bill said "only 90." and when did 1993 'big break' contestant bill die?
John Cooper well obviously he isn't alive. He was 90 and that was 25 years. He would be 115 now...
3:31 Bill would be about 120 if he were still alive, as of 2023.
He might still be alive as one of the richest people in the world and went into hiding lol
Nice
05:06 not Brighton.....classic
HONG KONG YOU GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
That's Peter Ebdon???
Nice ponytail!
Soo gooood
I don't think this could make it to challenge because it wasnt PC.
My God.. what on Earth has happened to the world.
Ben the world turned into a bunch of liberal vegetarian bunch of leftists that got offended by someone talking about truth! Lol what a show
But in spite of all the ‘snowflake’ improvements... it has turned absolutely rancid. What a hateful, vile, narcissistic world this has become in comparison to the one in this video.
Peter Ebdon doesn't look like that now!
"the ponytail" huehuehue
4:20 - they don't make them like that anymore, do they? Win all day.
The Yogpod brought me here
green and red? was she referring to italy?
This episode isn't quite 20 years old yet.
John Cooper it is now
Almost 30 years old now.
30 years now.
big break!!!!!!
French Flag - Green And Red 😂😂
Red and green?!
6:48 "Oh... shit."
Most 90s game show in the world...
Ebdon plays so much better fast
Hove, actually!
A yellow ball xD
TV was entertaining back in the 90's. Now its all lust and self righteousness.
What the Fuck happened to Peter Ebdon....did someone shave his head and fit him with a motion restricting device after the show!
Mind you that Ponytail was truly horrendous!
Everything is so serious thesedays compared to this. And shite.
Hurricane Ebdon.
Delilah cut off Ebdons ponytail ……… and he lost his speed
Bring back John Virgo (I mean to TV). I bet TV's not the same without him. He's more likable (and humble) than that berk Jim Davidson, and I bet that he'd be nicer to Brucie than Jim Davidson. I read that the viewers would usually be sympathetic for Virgo, whenever Jim made fun of him.
Oh and, BTW, Virgo's my star sign (ironically, John Virgo's is Pisces).
He's in snooker
You sound like John Virgos stalker 😂😂
14:00 🥴
thickest contestant
Much ado about nothing John virgo career lol
4:23 when mild racism was acceptable on prime time TV
That's just Jim Davidson.
I mean, Asians are yellowish. Just facts.
If white peeps are white and black people black I guess so
Early signs of his racist qualities there at 4:24
