An edition of Big Break from the final series. Broadcast in June 2002 on BBC One. Hosted as ever by Jim Davidson and John Virgo. With thanks to youtuber 'Prezelot" for providing the footage.
22:32 Lol @ Ronnie giving Jim the truth. _'Well I haven't had a good one [break] tonight, have I? [But I'm still here aren't I?]._ Cheeky chappy but he's not wrong! And he goes on to prove it... Intelligent play by using the 'well known' (to any fan of Big Break, which I'm certain he was) 'loopholes' and absolutely smashing it. Just to make it clear. He KNEW there was absolutely no way he could pot three colours after the three reds he was left AND be certain of potting all the colours. The bad position from blue to yellow was his ONLY mistake...but in his typical fashion it didn't phase him.
One of the reasons I watched ANYTHING Snooker oriented since I can remember was the 'gentle' nature between competitors (the other being that I 'fancied' myself a little!). I mean I'm sure behind the scenes it was something of a different story at times (in fact I know there was/is animosity, shenanigans...Barry Hearn's Matchroom, The Hurricane etc). But by and large, even though there was always fierce competition 'on the baize', you always got the impression that 'largely' competitors were on extremely friendly terms. This programme (among others like Pot Black) was a prime example of that. Love to see characters like the absolute great Ray Reardon having fun with old and new contemporaries.
This was the death throes of the show, as both Big Break and Jim's Generation Game were being trounced in the ratings by ITV's Pop Idol. The show was axed later in 2002 along with the Generation Game.
doesn't help that around the same time jim's...less wholesome comedy started becoming notable. within about 3 years of this he went from one of the major names of saturday night game shows to persona non grata.
It wasn’t even a repeat. With BB, the BBC just recorded a ton of episodes at Elstree then broadcast some whenever they had a series of weekly half-hour slots to fill. Some 1998 episodes were still getting their first broadcasts in 2001! These episodes recorded in 2001 were transmitted throughout 2002.
Apparently Stephen Lee was approached by the BBC to appear on the show.... The contract said "you will be expected to run around the table" he read this.... had a mini heart attack and decided it wasn't for him!
A) It looks like Jim doesnt know the difference between there, their and they're B) It looks like he's been told to stop pricking about when the players are at the table and C) It looks like he got very very tired of it all lol

Never liked Pop Idol. Everyone used to chunner on about it but I couldn't and definitely still now CAN'T stand reality TV and all these overrated so called talent shows.
It took any warmth and charm the show had and killed it stone dead. They must have cut back the budget, because the set was dreadful in that last series.
It's because the format was stale af and snooker lost its popularity. Add to this Davidsons lacklustre presenting. And yeah the set is pretty dreadful.
+Aidan Lunn (Ferguson Videostar) Weirdly I remember the older style set with the spinning bit of wall and the light blue clock, rather than the 'revamped' sets, quite strange considering I was born in 1993.
They kept the old style set right up to 2001 I think, with just slight adjustments made to them. So it no surprise you might remember the older style more.
Well, Ryan Day.... his 1st time on Big Break..... and now one of the best snooker players in the world. Well done my son, proud of ew 🏴🏴🏴
I don't think Jim looked overly enthusiastic here. He used to be really lively and funny on this, he looked bored and mildly hacked off about something or other. The new set wasn't as good as the old one either.
By 2002 Jim had gone through four marriages and both his BBC shows, Big Break and the Generation Game were getting hammered in the ratings by ITV. First Popstars and then Pop Idol.
+andy scott Christ sake are you still commenting on this, it was a flippant comment. I understand Reardon was brilliant on his day- but that was a couple of decades before this was filmed. Bobby Charlton was brilliant at football, but he'd struggle to get in the United side next weekend, get it?
Is he not sure about that ?Jim was a bit taken aback that there were Universities in Liverpool .I think he wants everyone to learn to crawl under barb wire fences and get ready to be canon foder. He's a bit of a twat . What@@Ashs-mini-vlogs
Came her to see the late Ray Reardon...lovely programme and very entertaining. Remember watching it back then. When TV was great. RIP Ray.
The final years of a now dead era. Many of us mourn these times.
100% agree
I loved watching this as a kid. And absolutely love how genuinely delighted John Virgo was at the end there.
The nostalgia from just seeing the BBC advert before the show even came on :(. Great show, loved seeing the repeats on ChallengeTV.
Ready watching this when I was 10 years old wish they could bring this back
I wish there was a big break stars of the future on RUclips
Been watching loads of these just to watch Ronnie. He didn't disappoint.
Best clearance on Big Break from the snooker GOAT
Check Virgo trying to tell Ronnie what 3 balls to select lol. Great upload btw.

Sweet, sweet Caroline
there was a kids big break called big break stars of the future i wonder if there are any episodes there
I am surprised Big Break was still on in 2002...

This was actually an episode from 2001.
@@johnking5174 it ran almost the same length as Atlantic 252, my childhood!
Yeah I thought it finished in 2000-2001
holy shit, look at his glasses! you could look into space with those, lol
about time they brought this back better than.the crap on now ..oh and Ronnie the superstar
Yeah!
Ronnie O'Sullivan is like a cheat Code
The BBC1 ident was from 2002 but the actual episode of Big Break was a repeat from 2001.

The rocket really showed his skill in this one.
Great video

Been great to see this again, used to love big break, perhaps it could come back or something similar as snooker`s popularity is on the rise again ?
Challenge TV repeat it often.
They used to air them, maybe they have stopped now. By they used to show series one and two.
Challenge ruin the fun by putting the adverts in. But that's how they pay to exist.....
The BBC1 ident was from 2002 but the actual episode of Big Break was a repeat from 2001.
Ronnie was made for this....
I think he might actually have 47 chromosomes getting that wrong

Pure box office is Ron. Great in any company
Good clean up on the snooker 🎱 table 😮😮🎉🎉🎉🎉😂❤❤❤

Why was it axed?
@@samsainty2892 I err think John sorta explained that

the updat of the set what made it cancelled
It took any warmth and charm the show had and killed it stone dead. They must have cut back the budget, because the set was dreadful in that last series.
@@johnking5174 yeah cause the previous seasons was set in a snooker club it make sence
@@Dim4323 Why did they change the set design? If it aint broke don't fix it.
It's because the format was stale af and snooker lost its popularity. Add to this Davidsons lacklustre presenting. And yeah the set is pretty dreadful.
All he has to do is multiply 23 by 2. No sweat, he's got a degree.
And an engineering degree, at that
Rearrange Net into a number?
Thats a bit easy
They misspelled tortellini.
And that’s why they call him Rocket.
@ 8:12 for the godzilla of snooker
26:48 - Could this be deliberate to nullify any correct answers? "Tortillini" is spelt wrong. Tortellini is a type of pasta though...
There's footage on YT of Jimmy White doing what ROS does here
Get it back on tv
Ray readon is the best snooker 🎱 player from South Wales 👌 that's lovely you know 😮😮😮😮😊❤❤❤
Ronnie O Sullivan is the greatest snooker player of all time.
RIP Ray Reardon
How many won it with 3 reds? This and Jimmy White, any more?
Well there's a Big Break set I never knew existed! But I doubt most people even remembered the series was going by this time!

Tbf no one was watching at the time, this show was on its deathbed in 2001/02
peter ebdon would have been great at this haha
He did, and was surprisingly rapid.

😂
Lad does it first time lol virgo looked so sad
2002 and the lad still looked like he was wearing Billy Elliot’s big brothers clothes.
reardon was 70 here
Ryan Day scored 8 on red hot. 8th red went in just before the buzzer
He scored 7. The buzzer sounded before the ball even hit much less went anywhere near the pocket.
Good ole Ronnie.
Caroline gave him a proper thank you after the show 😉
Never watched this series before.
It was annoying listening to virgo telling O sullivan what shots to play
JV who never won a world title. Ronnie who’s now on a whole other level 👌🏻
Bring it back instead of all the dancing pish.
Jim looks much older now
Well, Ryan Day.... his 1st time on Big Break..... and now one of the best snooker players in the world. Well done my son, proud of ew 🏴🏴🏴

surprised ronnie never bit of the tip lmao
That ident' gave me flashbacks
Your heart must sink when they wheel out Reardon to play for you
not really

Ronnie and Day are both todays players.
got to love the welsh.
Easy when you got the best player in HISTORY on your team ....lol
I was in stitches at the opening sketch.
*NOT*
Three hundred and 80 pounds 💷 😌 was a lot of money 💰 in 2002😮😮😢😢😢😢🎉🎉😂❤❤❤
ray reardon coached jimmy as a teenager
Oh yikes! I like to know how many takes did the co-host get the trick shot right? I don't know but the 3rd place player did it in 1 take. Take that
John Virgos comedy is nearly as bad as his snooker
hahaga yes
He is very funny
Worst trick shot ever lol
Never liked him, his mouth kept him going
Still going good comedy never gets old
