I will somewhat miss the old airports, with their low ceilings, fluorescent lights, and general 70s cubicle-farm aesthetic. The new ones are objectively superior, but I have a lot of good childhood memories of the old.

I've been saying something like this for a while - as hideous as the current situation is, it gives airports the opportunity to accelerate their expansion/improvement plans. It's definitely eased "overtourism" just about every where it was a concern, and I can't forsee any near to medium term "pilot shortage" at this point...

If such is indeed the intention, this can help explain the frustrations many are experiencing (distance, signage). My father was part of the engineering company that designed the HVAC system for the airport (Although his group specifically didn't work much on the project), and he said that trying to get the architects to drop the all glass concept and actually get the building LEED GOLD status was like trying to pull teeth on an elk that kept running away.

LOL We used to argue over which of us supervisors were the one that would have to walk all the way down there every time a call would come in. We weren't allowed to ride on the carts so we'd have to hustle to get there to assist in whatever way needed. It would suck when I'd be in concourse A and get called for customer assistance in concourse E. If they'd had FitBits back then mine would've been worn out within the first week!😄

The other thing that stood out was when I did have time to look q bit further into the airport, the commuter terminal for Delta was at the end of concourse B or C don't remember..always found that odd.. usually they have their own concourse but you'd just walk the length of the concourse and then take a elevator of escalator down one level

Might be nice to see his opinion of the hodgepodge of expansion over the past 22 years (and still going...). Newer architecture grafted, onto, or built off of, the older terminal (D-concourse and A-concourse expansions).

This too is my home airport. Prior to COVID, SLC International felt almost like a second home., but I haven't traveled much since as most of my trips were to overseas offices. So I was excited to take a flight inside the US and get to see the new terminal. TSA as has been mentioned by others seemed to go much more slowly than in the old terminals, but it appeared to me that it was because the agents are still getting used to the new equipment and process. I have a feeling it will speed up substantially within the next two months.
The old Delta Sky Club was fine, but cramped. The new Delta Sky Club is huge and feels very spacious. I absolutely loved it and was very comfortable spending an hour waiting for our flight. We went early both to make sure we had no trouble going through the new process, but also to check out the new digs.
As has been mentioned by others, the new terminal does feel like DTW, with more passenger seating space and no overhead train. The walk from one end of the terminal also is sooooo much longer than it used to be, and even though there are moving walkways, they didn't seem to speed things up much.
Overall, I love the new look and feel. Glad we've got a new terminal, and I am anxious to get to flying again once this pandemic is over.
