I used to be a member of the Piedmont lounge - when it was US Air. In 1989 I moved to Greensboro from London, England because EMI Music wanted me to work on a new project there for Capitol Records. It was a bit of a change! I lived on Tattershall Drive, part of The Cardinal, an estate surrounding a Golf Course about 5 minutes from the Airport.
In fact my neighbour was Greensboro's Police Chief. He used to joke that I was then the only Englishman living in Guilford County.
US Air had one International flight per day from Charlotte to London and I think I used that about 35 times in the first year. I clocked up so many miles that I never needed to actually buy a ticket to visit my girlfriend in New York City during the six years that I lived there. If I couldn't hook up via Charlotte then I caught a connector US Air flight to Philly and British Airways - US Air were trying to get close to BA at that time. I remember when the connector was late in leaving GSO the pilot arranged for me to transfer to the BA 747 across the tarmac at Philly via an electric car; that was an experience!!! I always got great service..... Flying to LA I went via Dallas to Burbank so I could get to the Capitol Tower on Hollywood and Vine easily - though I did know the shortcuts from LAX via La Cienega Blvd. Good times.
    Best, Pete.

Great content being the unofficial spokesman for your airport. Louisville is my home airport and I will always remember when Piedmont Airlines flew a route via one of it's 727s from Newark, Cincinnati, Louisville, Greensboro High Point to Washington Reagan. Flight 65 ran for many years with Piedmont. Via Piedmont in those days traveled via Charlotte. Piedmont is how I became a frequent flyer and my first award ticket as a teenager. For this avgeek, went on to globetrekking. Looking back fond memories of my home airport, Louisville. Keep up the great work, fellow aviation enthusiasts!!!!

I live about 12 minutes from GSO, I often see approach into airport. You forgot to mention GTTC’s aviation campus, they do aviation maintenance, flight training and many other programs related to it. The Vice Presidents plane and AF1 “Venus one” does touch and goes every once in a while. The school GTCC
does partner up with local companies. I’ve done that same INT trip too!! Great video and loved it, I know GSO, CLT and RDU pretty well.

Flown in and out of GSO a handful of times, usually connecting through CLT, always loved how late I could turn up to a flight without having to worry about security times being super long and a very short walk to the gate.
Always wondered about it’s cargo operations, so cool to see! 🇬🇧🇺🇸

It is a dream of mine to be able to travel the world! This video really caught my eye as we lived in Mount Airy for 8 years and flew in and out of GSO/PTI many times! It was our closest international airport and with my family living in the west, we flew quite a bit. We also flew out of CLT and RDU, if the tickets from there were cheaper than GSO. Now we live in Phoenix but there are things I miss about North Carolina!

Welcome back Jeb, it's great to see you posting again. I flew through GSO (GTI) several years ago when it was one of Continental's "focus cities". I was flying between Richmond (RIC), and Tampa (TPA) with a change of planes there. I don't remember a great deal about your terminal, other than a cafeteria where I grabbed a bite to eat, but I do remember flying into GSO on a Embraer 120 Brasilia, and flying out on a Boeing 737 -300 to Tampa. On the return leg, I repeated the process in reverse, flying the same combination of aircraft back to Richmond. Two things about that trip stand out, the flights on the EMB-120's, which was a "new" aircraft type for me, and a rude couple who boarded the the 737 in Jacksonville, on the return leg. I was seated on the aisle when they boarded, and they let out an audible moan when they found me sitting in "their" row. The female took the window seat, leaving the center seat to the male, who obviously was very annoyed to me find me sitting in the aisle seat. He showed his displeasure by immediately taking command of the armrest between us, and making himself as "large" as possible. Once airborne, he proceeded to cross his legs, and rest his shoe on my thigh. I asked him firmly to remove his foot several times, and he ignored me. Fortunately, there was a light load of passengers on the flight between JAC and GSO, and I was able to change seats. The rest of the flight was uneventful, however, when we landed in Greensboro, and were deplaning, the male stood up, dropped the USA Today he had been reading, and left the scattered pages on the floor, as he and the female exited the aircraft. Like most travelers, I've had a number of experiences which I will remember, most of them good ones, but this one was undoubtedly was one of the worst!

Heathrow in London...worst airports Melbourne in Australia ( my partial home town) Adelaide in South Australia and Sydney International !! Oh sorry Abu Dhabi in the Middle East !! The Jebster returns...have missed you mate !! So sad to the almost eerie look at the moment with no one there !! All those parked jets is also a sad sight. !! Great video Jeb...really enjoyed it and most interesting with so many things going on in and around the airport !! I have a feeling Winston Salem hosts a major tennis tournament as well these days ?? PTI was the first airport I ever flew out of. Back then you walked out to the plane and up the stairs. Having lived in NC for 30+ years, I've flown from there many times. Later on I flew out of CLT and watched how that airport has grown. Now home is MLB. Small but so easy to get in and out of. Love the smaller airports and their unique character. Great video.

Direct flights to China, Canada (seasonally), and Mexico certainly make it one of the more interesting California airports. Cheap flights and also drive-in movies. One of the larger cargo hubs for UPS, FedEx, and Amazon is so interesting. Take a trip to the Inland Empire's airport!

Hi Jeb, I’m in Cary, NC and a very frequent traveler out of RDU. Haven’t flown since March 3-4th, a two day trip RDU-LAX, SNA-ATL-RDU. Pretty sure this is the longest I’ve gone “flightless” in my 30+ year career. I’m a rare Flying Colonel on Delta, ever heard of it? I share your love of aviation. Sad what is happening right now. We were up to 58 non-stop destinations pre COVID and we are currently down to 22 I believe. Enjoyed this, didn’t know much of what you covered. May have to take a drive over and look around. Edit: got halfway through the video and I started cheesing hard. I am an aircraft mechanic. Airframe and Powerplant license. I don't work in an MRO but I live in Nashville and we have one for Embraer at BNA. Pre Covid I had several friends that worked out there while I was on the other side of the airfield working on GA stuff. I would love to see more mechanic stuff. Sorta show people the behind the scenes aspect and what is actually happening under the shiny paint livery.

My home airport is St. Louis Lambert International airport or STL. It used to be a hub for Ozark Airlines and Trans World Airlines or TWA until the early 2000s. When TWA was phased out, Southwest built a brand new terminal and made STL a hub. We also have flights all around the US with Southwest, Delta, United, American, Alaska, Frontier, Viva Aerobus, Air Canada, Air Choice One, Cape Air, Sun Country Airlines, Swiftair, Contour Airlines, DHL, ABX Air, UPS, FedEx, and used to be Air Bridge Cargo. We have international routes to Toronto Pearson International, Cancun, Punta Cana, Central Mexico, and Baja California. Concourse D is abandoned and left the exact same way it was when TWA left, even with music still playing. Concourse B has been turned into a rental venue.

I'm from New Hampshire, and my FAVORITE airport is MHT (Manchester NH, NOT UK)! The approach path goes right over my house, so we can see it whenever we fly in! It was recently ranked one of the top 20 airports in the U.S. We only have 4 airlines (American, Delta, United, Southwest) and about 13 destinations, but there are rumors that JetBlue may begin service out of MHT soon. It is a lot cheaper to fly out of Boston, which is about an hour's drive to the south, but it is so much more convenient to fly out of MHT!

I encourage you to look into Phoenix-Mesa Gateway airport/KIWA/AZA , with all sorts of awesome 737 classics from Swift-air/Iaero airways, regular allegiant service (at one point we had AAY 757 service to Honolulu), “Swoop” service (Canadian subsidiary of Westjet), and even Westjet itself! Let’s not forget about some amazing visitors, such an 10-tanker the DC-10, right now, 2 BaE 146 “Avro” tankers, and sometimes even an MD-87 tanker. And, on occasion you’ll find amazing stuff you’ll never see at Sky Harbor, such as a World Atlantic MD-83 charter, Eastern airlines charter planes, an Antonov AN-124, and very rarely, Boeing test/freighter planes! We had some 787 testing done here, and sometimes we get a 747-8 cargo to carry cargo (same job as that AN-124). Mesa gateway is my home, coupled with an amazing fleet of visitors, amazing spotting locations, and frequent private jet visits with many hangar facilities like GSO... It is an amazing little airport, and if you’re ever in the area, I recommend you give it a look! P.S. Jeb, if you ever fly here, I’d love to your plane coming in if I have the time!

Flew out of GSO a couple months ago. The most friendly TSA agents I’ve ever encountered. It was great! LGA could take some lessons 😁

The 10,000 foot runway makes PTI a B-52 bomber capable facility and is used, like ILM Wilmington, for Air Force One touch and go practice. FedEx was going to move its main hub to PTI and close its Memphis hub, but that plan was put on hold years ago. ILM was also an emergency landing site for the space shuttle program and another cold war era B-52 rated field.

I think you’re mistaking ILM for ISO in Kinston, NC. ISO has an 11,400 ft runway compared to ILM’s standard 8,000 ft runway.

@@Gavincornelll No, ILM was a shuttle back up landing site given its closeness to the coast.

I got to visit Haeco when it was Timco (2004ish). They had a 777 in for maintenance at the time and we were able to go on board and check out the cockpit.

I too have flown through PTI in from IAD and out to IAD, PHL or more often ATL. Only trouble is not bring able to move between gate areas if colleagues are flying on different routes back home.

Neat video. I’m in Martinsville and my first flight was around 1980 when I was a kid. It was in the old terminal that is now the TH Davis Aviation Center (I’m looking for pics of this facility in operation before current PTI was built). I always fly PTI !

Who would have thought so much happens at a medium sized airport? This video has definitely inspired me to create a similar one for BWI

I flew into AVL several times in the early 1980s when I went to summer camp nearby. Nice little airport. Doesn’t look like it’s changed much. I’m sure having Allegiant is huge especially with all the Floridians’ vacation homes.

I am a semi driver and my truck broke down, and I had to have my truck towed to shop near GSO, and staying at the Sleep Inn over there and you should do a video review of the place its a little run down but I get to see some plane spotting there. Glad to be in your hometown. In certain circumstances.
