I think your wife makes a great addition to your channel. She's articulate and has a good sense of humor. I too freak out over short connections. I'd rather have a longer layover than a short one. My first trip, since the pandemic, is coming up and I am nervous... it's a long haul.

I think he meant “we are at” as in “we are currently walking by,” because the gate the ended up at was A30
I just watched this this morning. Yesterday, I was flying into Detroit from Munich on Delta. Had 35 minutes to catch my next leg, and my dad and I were able to make it through global entry, customs, TSA pre-check, and onto our next plane within 25 minutes. I was so impressed. Checked bags even made it!
What was your final city?
Had back-to-back experiences like that by running. Didn't have my boarding pass and didn't know where the gate was. What a rush!
One thing that wasn't mentioned, at least for Delta, is that if you have a tight connection they will print "HOT" on the tag, so it's in the system that it should be one of the first ones off the plane when you land at the connection airport.
Another sign of why Delta is one of the best domestic carriers in the USA!
I had a relatively tight connection with Thai Airways, and they also tagged my luggage with a "Hot Transfer" tag. So it's not just a Delta thing it seems.
it isn't to make it come off first, rather it tells the ramp crew to route it immediately to the next gate upon offload, rather than to the "cold" holdroom where bags with longer connections wait
I've been wanting to take a flight like this for the fun of it. Or the hell of it? ATL is my favorite airport because it's very efficient. I hardly ever feel held back there. Also, Charleston is a beautiful city. One of my favorite places in the US.

I agree. Atlanta, despite its size was easy to traverse. Much less so was JFK. What a mess!

honestly, this is really reassuring for someone who has been researching a specific flight for future travel that only has a connection time of 50 minutes and no other options.

You two are adorable! Enjoying seeing Suzanne in front of the camera. Recently had a connection in ATL on a trip from RSW to DEN. Had to change concourses, too. 1.5 hours was sufficient but I didn’t dawdle! DEN, my home airport, isn’t exactly small, but ATL still gives me anxiety!

ATL is just a sea of people. It's enough to give the most seasoned traveler anxiety!
As someone who just flew through it, DEN itself is a garbage airport compared to ATL. It's so far from the main city, and is super confusing to leave and enter. The staff at DEN is amazing though.
I worked for Virgin Atlantic and we used same check-in software as Delta. We are monitoring connections all day, the system alerts us of tight connections and predicted misconnects. We got eyes on you the whole time :)
Jeb- we are leisure travelers and have done some international travel. I absolutely love your channel and travel vicariously with you. With all the negative things in the news and on the net- it is so nice to have such a positive and uplifting channel like yours. I've been flying through ATL on Delta for the last 25-plus years. Typically 8-10 times a year and mostly for international flights. It is a big airport but overall it's run well. I've almost never experienced a delay or cancellation. My suggestion for MCTs for ATL: 90 minutes for domestic and 3 hours for international flights.
If you don't mind, could I get your thoughts on an upcoming trip I have? I'm connecting to an ATL-LHW flight in February, where I'll have an hour and 25 minutes layover assuming no delays. My only other option was 5 hours, so I took the hour and 25. Do you think I should be able to make it to the flight? It'll be my first time in ATL solo, the last time I was in ATL I was a kid.

We have a saying here in the South that wherever your destination may be after you die, you have to go through Atlanta to get there. My house is literally one mile from Hartfield-Jackson and another true marvel about the airport is despite the proximity, I never hear air noise except when heavy storms move into the area and the take-off trajectories are changed to avoid the storm. This terminal was opened in 1981, replacing the old airport and she’s not the prettiest or most sophisticated airport, but she sure gets the job done.
Given it started as a hub for connecting passenger trains and now does the same for flights, I wonder how commonly it's used as a hub for Greyhound routes 😅
@@pokemonred2005 Correct. Atlanta was originally named Terminus because the southern railroads service used it as a merging location. I believe it also serves as the hub for bus travel, for when the interstates were constructed, they mirrored the old train lines making Atlanta the connection for Interstate 75, 85 and 20.

@@grievousangelic SO TRUE. Living on the Southside I could be across town in 12 minutes as long as I avoided rush hour. That was a decade ago and now rush hour is pretty much 24/7.
We had a 42 minute connection at ATL in 2019 with a family of 6. Mom was in a wheelchair and we had an escort which is totally what saved us! He knew exactly where he was going.

I am so thankful for watching this video! We made a late connection (MCO-ATL) on 4/14 at 5:30, and had 20 minutes to go from Term. B to Term. E for our 20th Anniversary trip to Dublin - with checked bags!!! AND WE MADE IT!!! I have so much confidence in Hartsfield-Jackson airport and Delta in the ATL!!! THANK YOU JEB for showing us it can be done. Maybe with some heart palpitations, but it is possible!

I missed the old days when US airways and Southwest would let you make 20 minute connections. It is really amazing how fast bags get off one aircraft and get on another aircraft. I just recently had a 25 minute layover in Denver because of a delay on the inbound aircraft I was flying on. I love a 1 hour connection. It is my sweet spot. I have had many Delta quick turns and I seek out these walk off and walk on flights. Delta is usually good at quick turns. I have had a failure with United with a quick turn but it was foggy weather.
I LOVE to feel the RUSH. A tip I have is to use the magazine's airport maps to see where you need to walk to. These are usually at the end of the magazine with aircraft dimensions. TripIt I found tells you how long it will take you to walk it. Love the videos. Keep up the great work. Calm down, we will make it is what I told my brother recently.

I grew up flying through Atlanta (RDU to BHM monthly), so I know the airport pretty well. But next month I’m flying with my two kids from Tokyo to Detroit, Detroit to Atlanta and then Atlanta to Birmingham. The Atlanta layover is only 35 minutes. I’m freaking out about it. On my own I wouldn’t sweat it. Thanks for this video. I needed the motivation!
You need to call Delta and ask if 35 minutes is a "legal" amount of time to change planes. If yes then you are OK as missing your connection just means you + your luggage will simply be re-booked on a later flight. HOWEVER, if 35 minutes is > not < a legal connection time then you need to change your tickets. If you bought your tickets from Delta then you are probably OK except you will probably miss your onward flight and delta will re-book you. If you bought your tickets from a travel agency then they may have sold you tickets that won't be honored by Delta if you miss your connection due to the too-short connection time. .

@@barryfletcher7136 Amen to that! My original itinerary was Haneda to Atlanta, three hour layover, then on the Birmingham. (It’s only a two hour drive to Birmingham, but that’s beside the point.) Especially after an international flight, i want three hours to stretch my legs, grab some real food and just unwind before the next leg.
@@johnp.9725 I was gonna say: at least if you miss your ATL-BHM flight, you could conceivably rent a car and drive it out. But even a two hour drive from the ATL madness to the BHM madness is a lot to ask of someone who just spent 15 hours on a flight from Tokyo!!

I had an experience with US Airways once connecting LGA-PIT-DFW. The LGA-PIT leg was delayed (of course), and the PIT-DFW leg was already fully boarded (except for me) when we landed in PIT. The FAs asked everyone to remain seated when we got to the gate, and had me deplane first. Fortunately I only had a carry-on and they held the PIT-DFW flight for me! I was coming back from a funeral, and this show of kindness helped make it a better experience.
Always wanted to take a flight out of ATL, haven’t got a chance to yet. Keep up the great work and congrats on 400k!

Brilliant video full of Jeb’s personal touch
I was flying back from LaGuardia last September. I had to run and get a rapid COVID test, and then I had to run to the Delta Terminal to check in and then go through security. And boy, everything they say about LaGuardia is true. Security was a nightmare to get through. Not only that, the gate agents weren't even sure if they could let me on the plane, so I was stuck at the gate, while a full plane of passengers were probably anxious to get home to Minneapolis from New York. When all was said and done, I made it. Needless to say though, it was a rough experience. I completely understand your anxiety, Jeb. It's scary cutting it that close. And I didn't even have a connection!

Couple comments: Ask the flight attendant to make an announcement for people to stay in their seats that do not have a connecting flight so people with a short period of time to make their connections, also that wheel chairs are there with personnel to push them. I almost missed a connection when Delta did not of people ready to get me to my next connection. I ended up walking which is hard for me.
This comment is a year old, but the flight attendants no longer do this. At least on Delta. I was told this by an FA themselves, said it's new company policy.
I made a 38 minute connection last week in ATL, we left late the jetway was malfunctioning when we arrived and I was mid plane but I made it. There is a map on the ATL site that shows how long it takes to get to your gate, it’s helpful.

ATL is my home airport and I've learned to navigate it pretty well. This was entertaining. The evening is a bit more challenging because sometimes the train isn't running.

Jeb & Suzanne, I'll give you props for deliberately booking a potentially challenging connection with that short layover time. I've never done this intentionally, but flight schedules and fate have had me making similar short connecting times from ATL to TRI on flights originating from SMF several times over the years. However, your attitude makes all of this well worth the experience. My own experiences have also enabled me to have a better attitude as well. Thank God that ATL has the best tram system in the entire country for connecting to these terminals. Thank you. 😊
I came up from Orlando on a Delta L1011 to Atlanta in 1994. Horrible storms delayed my flight and connection to Denver. I saw so many Delta planes it made my head spin. My special meal went bye bye. But I got to Denver to start my Parks and Canyonlands trip. Greetings from Melbourne down under. Thanks to Delta for their kind help to a young tourist from far away.

Oh I’m so glad you flew the 717… I got a flight on a Delta 717 in a couple days. Lucky me, I have a layover in Atlanta, said nobody ever 😂 but I do have a 2.5 hour layover, so that’s nice. Congratulations on 400k! Love your videos!
haha, loved the bloopers :) Even though you had great weather and flights, I have had a flight when my leg was broken, my flight from Melbourne to Sydney was delayed, when I at last got to Sydney my plane was supposed to take off in 5 mins, as soon as I got out of my Melbourne flight, a lovely ground crew gave me a wheel chair and wheeled me to my next flight. They held it back just for me!! I have lots of faith in the airport system, at least in Australia!!

I had a 53 minute layover in Denver and was very much freaking out the entire time. I was blessed in the end, we landed like 5 minutes early and landed at gate A27 and took off from gate A29. I felt so relieved at that point.

Hi Jeb... been there and done that, a lot of times. I don't know if you ever done this, but I used to fly through that hub quite a lot, with short connection times. This was way before the flight crew used to ask people to remain seated to let connecting passengers out first. Specifically I informed them that I had a difficult connection to make, and to please make sure I got out first... they always obliged. I of course quickly gathered my things and moved out ASAP. Even still, way back when, it was difficult, especially in Atlanta, where sometimes you have to catch that darn train with as many as 4 stops from where you are located. Still, I compliment that airport for its facilities, shops, people, and Delta in particular since I was usually flying them. Thanks. Sorry to type too much. Atlanta is not so bad a place to spend a weekend or two at either. Oh, by the way, usually your darn bags are slower... love getting to my next hotel with no clothes to wear (always carried an emergency back pack of course).

Great video Jeb. I had the same experience at ATL flying Delta. We had 39 min layover and once we landed I was running to from Terminal A to E.
I'll be going through Atlanta in November coming out of Amsterdam and going to Tampa. My original schedule had a 2hrs5m layover, which I ultimately decided would be a bit short. I'd have to get from concourse E to F walking, go through CBP, get my suitcase, go through customs, drop off my suitcase, go through security and get to the gate for my connecting flight (probably at concourse A or B). For me, that was just cutting it too close, so I've changed my connecting flight, so I'll have 4hrs15m, which gives me a lot of peace of mind 🙂
OMG I love your channel! I recently flew too ATL for the first time and there airport is amazing. Really had fun riding the plane train and exploring some different terminals as I waited for my flight. The 30 min delay wasn’t bad considering I got to see the airport and planes take off
I always allow a 4 hour layover in Atlanta coming from an international flight connecting to a domestic one. So I don't have to rush, have time to eat and enjoy strolling around the terminal.

Short layovers are stressful, I prefer longer layovers. Last year I was flying with Alaska from BIL-SJC (which is my home airport) and had a connection through PDX, it was only 30 minutes. Originally it was gonna be 50 minutes but we took off 20 minutes late so the layover for shortened. I was so insanely worried, I remember sprinting out the plane and across the concourse thinking I wouldn’t make it. But I got lucky, the airport was pretty empty and I didn’t have to switch terminals, so I made it to my gate with plenty of time to spare. Was even able to use the bathroom and get McDonald’s before boarding

I had a 1h 20min connection at Heathrow yesterday, from VS at T3 to Aer Lingus at T2, I made it in plenty of time but bags did not. Thankfully they made the next flight and got delivered to me today but I was told checking in that 1h 20 is too short at Heathrow between terminals. MCT in LHR is 90mins for inter terminals, 60min for same terminal. Atlanta is excellent! Great video, thanks very much for sharing!
Great vlog as always! I have worked for an airline and I have a black belt when it comes to MCT. When OSL opened in 1998 the MCT between int and dom was 60mins due to the fact that Norway and the US is one of the few countries that make you have to clear your bag though costums at first point of entry. If you flew into LHR and out of LGW it was 3h. The two fastest in Europe was MUC and VIE with int/int MCT at only 15mins! That is short! Jeb, in most cases the bag will transit faster than you. They can have a drive it from plane to plane in 5mins. Be safe!
