Just found you and learning a lot! I bought a Regalia a year ago just now using it more after having watched many you tube on Pro Stitcher have finally tackling it. My friend has a Gamil, have watched her computer quilt with it and thought it was easier to learn. Finding you I do like free motion quilting. Someday I’ll catch on to that pro stitcher! Did I say I’m 78 and love learning!
Thank you for this video. I'm considering using straight lines on my next quilt and your tips are going to be so valuable in that process. I always learn something from your videos.
Thanks for the tip on preventing angled pulls/creases on parallel stitching. I noticed it on a recent quilt I did and feel badly about it, but now I know, I guess.
OMG i am so glad i found you it has been years sense i long armed ,i am back to quilting again., found some magnets to float quilt, love this method. keep up the great work.
This is why I am watching the video. Can anyone tell me the time mark where Susan talks about keeping the lines from pulling to create arrows going to the left and then to the right? Does that make sense? I call it arrows. The stitching pulls the top and back in the direction you are stitching…Thanks so much!
Susan, You were talking about the thread was unraveling. I was at a lecture during quilt week AQS and Superior threads talked about how you set your spool and the way it comes off. A cone needs to have the thread taken off by the top. a Spool needs to be taken off by the side and the spool spins. so the way the thread goes on is the way it should come off to keep it from unwinding. Hope that helps.
It does, and I know that to be true. I pretty much always use cones, but still occasionally get that un-twisted effect. Perhaps I should contact Superior😁

If you’re worried about that, practice a design first on a non-precious quilt or a piece of yardage. Then once you’re comfortable with it, head into the more treasured quilt. You can do this ❤️
I never thought about winding bobbin slower. I have had horrible tension issues in the past. I have stopped filling bobbins so full. Will wind bobbins slower next time. ❤
It would have been nice to have a close up of the backing to see how distinct or blending the gray thread is. May be that is still to come. Great You Tube as always!!!!!! Thanks so much.
I find that you are using a short length of stitch. When I try to stitch on my regular machine with the special quilting attachement I find if my stitch is short it pulls a lot. I am using poly thread and the last one I quilted….(my third) I had no pinches in the back….of that I was very proud.
I love your quilt behind you on the wall, is there a pattern for that quilt? The designer for the quilt you are working on is J. Wrecker Frisch. I am a quilter and love her vintage style especially for Halloween fabrics. I just found your channel and thank you for the easy to follow instructions. I will be trying straight line quilting, you took some of the fear out of the equation. I love your style. Thanks
The quilt behind me is Bowls and Vases by Kafe Fassett Collective. I found it as a kit at a garage sale😁 And thank you for the current quilt design info!
I am so impressed with all this. I am hoping to get one to a long armer someday…I am new at this. Where are you located, that is if you accept quilts. What are your requirements and the price please.
Hi Mickey, I'm in Spokane WA, but I do accept edge-to-edge quilting through the mail. If you'd ever like to talk more about it, email me - susan@stitchedbysusan.com for a quote and more details.
I think that in 2025, I will purchase a long arm. You make it look so easy. I think I can do it. I've been researching the different brands. Are there any features you regret getting or regret not getting when you purchased your machine. What are some of the features that I would definitely want to include in my purchase?
This is a huge question….😁and so much depends on the style of quilting you like/want to do. Top of list I’d put quality of stitches, ease and smoothness of movement, and even sound. Then think about individual features like channel locks, or programmable buttons or adjustable handles. Servicing availability is a big consideration too. A personal example of trade-off was that I gave up some speed on my last brand for the ability to use common needles on my BERNINA, and that was well worth it to me. You might have other favorite things than I 😁
Make sure your floor is level or machine has a great height variance. Put my machine in an upper bedroom and did not think the floor was unlevel as it was. My right rear leg is as low as it can go. When it was leveled, my belly bar is a little high for me but there is nothing I can do about it!!!!! Narrow your choices and then rent time on each.
Stupid question I am sure….what do you do with those threads that you cut on the top of the quilt, do you pull them to the back, knot and hide in the middle?
There is a link in the description right below the episode. You may need to click on “see more”, then scroll down, and I have links to many of my favorite tools.
Would you or Connie be willing to share the pattern for the Queen of We'en quilt? I love the pattern, material and the straight-line stitching is spectacular!!
I had to leave the live stream. 😢 I don't know if you Explained but what do you mean by engaging the belt? I know it's similar to channel locks on other machines. Thanks
A favorite audiobook series of mine is The Chronicles of St Mary's by Jodi Taylor. The first book is Just One Damned Thing After Another. Sounds a bit like machine quilting doesn't it?
This is why we want to continue watching to the end. That tip to insure that the lines are as straight as you can get them is so worth it.
I love your strait line choice, this has always been my favorite.
Enjoyed the replay tonight while piecing a top that I plan to quilt with parallel straight lines. As always, great info and tips. Thanks much! 💜

Go you! I’m glad you’re diving in - that’s where the fun is😁
Thank you for this video. I'm considering using straight lines on my next quilt and your tips are going to be so valuable in that process. I always learn something from your videos.
I love your attention to detail, you take into consideration how much work was put into that quilt. You are amazing.
I just finished “The Other Einstein” audio book. Very Good book.
Thanks for the tip on preventing angled pulls/creases on parallel stitching. I noticed it on a recent quilt I did and feel badly about it, but now I know, I guess.
Don't feel badly - you don't know till you know 😄 And now you know ways to help it.
This is so interesting. I’m so glad your channel popped up.
OMG i am so glad i found you it has been years sense i long armed ,i am back to quilting again., found some magnets to float quilt, love this method. keep up the great work.
Very impressed that you do this without a channel lock
I do have a computerized option, so I engaged the belt that would keep the stitching in a straight line.
Very awesome watching you! Thank you for the opportunity.
Fabulous video and excellent tips to keep those lines straight! Thank you so much for providing these videos! I learn so much with every one!

Queen of Ween is a Riley Blake fabric designed by J. Wecker-Frisch. ( Just happened on your excellent video.)❤
Yes! It’s in the video description too👍🏻

Ooooh, thanks for the recommendations!
Love this video, which makes me think I may be able to do this. I have so much fear of messing up all the work you put into your quilt.
If you’re worried about that, practice a design first on a non-precious quilt or a piece of yardage. Then once you’re comfortable with it, head into the more treasured quilt. You can do this ❤️
I dont have a Bernina but am getting ready to change the leaders to magnets inserted into hems on my frame. Would love to see that as well.
Missed the zipper back poll question. I vote YES!
Yes! Would love a demo of a zipper backing and more on Q24...show me anything you want to share...all very helpful, I have Qmatic24 as well!
Awesome, good to know!
Zipper pieced backing demo would be good!!! as I think I will be faced with the same situation.
Would love to see a video demonstrating alternative stitching for quilt backing.
Are you thinking decorative thread in the bobbin?
I never thought about winding bobbin slower. I have had horrible tension issues in the past. I have stopped filling bobbins so full. Will wind bobbins slower next time. ❤

I'm sorry I didn't think to show that on the video. I promise to post photos soon!
Yes! I am interested in the zipper piece backing.
Got it!

Susan I’d love to see the way you install the leaders and which way they roll. Much appreciated
Mr Producer and I were discussing that this morning….we’ll move it up the priority list 😁
Beautiful
is there a video on installing snappers., i have a new freedom machine. 127 inches ty

Yes to backing video
Yes, I would like to see you do the zipper thing you were talking about.

QQ I havea mountain lion quilt to do for a customers what color thread would you use?
I am so impressed with all this. I am hoping to get one to a long armer someday…I am new at this. Where are you located, that is if you accept quilts. What are your requirements and the price please.

What’s the fabric line quilt that’s behind you. 😊
The designer for "Queen of Ween" fabric is Janet Wecker-Frisch for Riley Blake Fabrics
Thank you!

@betseyryan6360 good idea to rent first. Thanks
Also, where do you post pictures? I’d love to see the Queen if Ween!
On Instagram and Facebook. I was just now snapping photos of this one 😁
Stupid question I am sure….what do you do with those threads that you cut on the top of the quilt, do you pull them to the back, knot and hide in the middle?
I first do a few closely spaced stitches, and then pull the bobbin thread to the top and cut both tails.
Have you ever done straight line on Qmatic? It’s also super easy!
I haven’t…I should play with it, but I also know I like the freedom of being able to place my lines in very specific locations.
Would love to see zipper pieced backing
What kind of magnet bar do you use? where can I find them? Thank you

Are the geese pieced or part of the panel? The seams are so smooth it is hard to tell panel vs piecing.
They're pieced - Connie is a stellar piecer!
Would you or Connie be willing to share the pattern for the Queen of We'en quilt? I love the pattern, material and the straight-line stitching is spectacular!!
QQ..do you like the pieced seams pressed open or to one side?
I prefer them open - I think they lay flatter. But I quilt them however the client sends them😉
Susan which foot are you using on your Q24 for this quilt?
I had a #9 on.
I had to leave the live stream. 😢 I don't know if you Explained but what do you mean by engaging the belt? I know it's similar to channel locks on other machines. Thanks
I finished watching. Saw that you answered my Austin above. Sadly, I don't have a Q matic.
Question 😊
If you have a BERNINA, though, you can add manual channel locks. They’re basically a rubber stopper that holds against the rail.
Got it! Spell check🤣
Michael Connelly Bosch series

It does!! I’m all over that one🤣
❤❤❤
I was expecting to see Susan. Maybe she was hacked. I'll find someone to watch. I will miss Susan
You must have been watching the countdown….i featured my friend Sam there, but I came on at 9am.
