  • Remember the l’s and e’s of handwriting classes? That’s basically what we’re quilting today! Truly, most freemotion quilting is made up of a pretty limited set up shapes, used in a bajillion different ways😄 Master these shapes....and you've got some great quilting skill.
    The quilt under the needle is very floral and has quite busy prints. Which, by the way, If you’re a beginner, makes an excellent canvas for practicing a new-to-you-design. My "Chandelier" freemotion design is row-based and while easy, is a great skill builder.
    Topics include:
    deciding which way to orient the quilt
    loading
    ways to keep the row-based design even and straight
    quilting “Chandeliers”
    how everyday quilting can be all the practice you ever need to build skills for high end custom quilting
    Today's project is the CHERISH quilt,

I'm sure this is exactly what I need to learn how to use my equipment. 2-1/2 hours! Yay! This will really be step-by-step and slow enough to understand. • @treasuresnownthen

    Susan could you detail what direction the backing rollers need to be loaded with the fabric? Like right side of backing to either top /bottom side of leader fabric? My machine doesnt have a dead bar.

    • @StitchedBySusan
      @StitchedBySusan  7 месяцев назад +1

      I don’t think it really matters. I used to pin so that the backing folded back over itself; now with my snappers it doesn’t. So that’s not right or wrong, but if it DOES fold over itself you need to be quite accurate in width of fold. I’ve seen quilters do it all kinds of ways….

    How much extra backing fabric do you have on the bottom of that quilt in order to roll on the lower bar? I normally have 4 inches all the way around but it appears that you would have to have much more on the bottom of your quilt.

    • @StitchedBySusan
      @StitchedBySusan  Год назад +1

    • @StitchedBySusan

    • @StitchedBySusan
      @StitchedBySusan  10 месяцев назад +2

      Do you put the side clamps on AFTER basting? So that all layers have equal tension? Doing it before can cause the backing to be stretched tighter.

    how important do you think automation is as a quilter ? I am not a professional ( yet ) but I have been told that automation is a MUST for any one considering taking on customers ... I would think it would depend on the business plan?

    • @michellelynch6715
      @michellelynch6715 Год назад

      Automation is absolutely not necessary for professional quilting. I personally have been quilting for others over 10 years and do not have robotics on my machine.

    • @StitchedBySusan
      @StitchedBySusan  Год назад

      It is absolutely not a must! I quilted over 1000 quilts before automation arrived in my studio. But, it is important to be realistic. There's a limit to how much freemotion quilting you can physically do, day after day, and therefore a ceiling on how much you can earn that way. It does indeed depend on the business plan. Does it need replace a full time job? Or could you perhaps consider complimentary things, like binding...or submitting patterns or articles to magazines...or teaching?
