If the game took the concept of war and death seriously like Battlefield 1, this OST would fit perfectly. Too bad the game has the seriousness of TF2 with good graphics.
Honestly tf2 feels more serious than those specialists in 2042
@@ilikewindows3455 especially in Mann vs machine (where they actually take their jobs seriously)
Exactly. Really wish people would stop shitting on the soundtrack. The issue is that DICE failed to make everything about the actual game consistent in its tone. Remember, this composer also did the soundtrack for Chernobyl, which has a similar "world is ending" atmosphere that 2042 is going for. Honestly, I think if you overlayed a lot of the 2042 tracks over scenes from Chernobyl it would fit really well.
Getting rid of the goofy-ass end of the game dialogue was a step in the right direction

After playing the Battlefield 2042 Beta i can say This Songs Really Fit On It.
Ye.
@Deus Ex Taco Nah, this soundtrack really is pretty good - it is just supposed to fit to a completely different theme than the game turned out to have. If The Last of Us had the soundtrack of Team Fortress 2, or Halo had the soundtrack of Bluey (the kids TV show,) you’d say the same exact thing. It causes a massive dissonance in our minds, so we automatically perceive the quality as bad because it makes us uncomfortable. If 2042 was actually a good game that focused on the world ending aspects, I’m sure many would be here singing its praises. Shit when the trailer was out and it focused on the world ending stuff, nobody said shit about the soundtrack being bad.

Bf5 I wasn't a fan of the mechanics of the game BUT I respected (I still respect) the hell out of the soundtrack of BF5 (also the last tiger was based)
Trust me, a grandiose orchestra would fit this game even worse
I think it's excellent. Anxiety inducing, but is that not the point? I genuinely think it's haunting and depicts war in a beautiful way.
Silent Hill has always had oppressive, industrial music. You aren't supposed to like it, you're supposed to feel it. endure it. absorb it. Whether you like it or not. War... Hell... it's the same thing.

@@zionchar11 Tracks 1,2,4 and 8 are my favourites. If you consider this soundtrack "torture", then you haven't understood the direction.

I refer you to my initial comment. You have given this soundtrack ultimate praise. It's just I can appreciate the direction.
@@ajaxlewis7664 The lore dictates that the world is in ruins.. yet the map is pristine and untouched. The game is downright chaotic and unplayable at time and the soundtrack is all over the place and chaotic.

This sounds like the instrumental was nails on a chalk board and the vocals were a dying whale
The composer got the brief of "our setting is a future earth that is ravaged by natural disasters and the soldiers are fighting a pointless war" and understood the assignment, this game doesnt deserve a soundtrack like this
Now, I wasn't a fan of the ost at first, but after a while it started to fit the "global warming" style, natural disasters and futuristic vibes, some of the soundtrack has the sort of beeping like a tornado alam (I'm not an idiot, I understand why) or the sound of rain and sandstorms, I enjoy how your visibility is lowered on hourglass, or how you can see the wind picking up and your PS controller begins to sort of vibrate in a way to mimic the storm coming, the ost is fitting and not fitting in a way. I have a theory, and I have a strong belief that its wrong.....
There was a real disconnect between the marketing team, the music composers, and the game devs themselves. The first two either had a good idea of what a Battlefield game should be or were following completely different orders. They may have been told the lore of 2042 (with the world collapse and all that) and next to nothing about the game mechanics. The composers and the marketing team really should be praised, its a shame the game was fucked up.

I know a lot of people don't like this album and 2042. But I want to say that the listening experience of this album is absolutely unique. I can even hear the tearing doomsday and the wailing of desperate humans. This is so cool.
Everyone is tweaking HARD, these tracks fit the theme and setting of the game perfectly.
There are no more heroes in this world. There is no more good or bad. There are only two giants fighting over the corpse of the world, and those trying to survive.
The soundtrack is fine for menu music, but the game totally lacks any type of hype when you start a round or any type of relief when you win a round. It's like a never ending depressing struggle, which doesn't fit into the corny specialist lines thrown in at the end of a round. I played Portal and the music there is so great, especially 1942 and BC2 really hype it up at the end of a round. I just listened to BF5's soundtrack again and remember the hype they created at a start of a round. Nothing of that is here, it's monotonous background noise rather than music.
"It's like a never ending depressing struggle" well because of tonal dissonance, it isn't good

You clearly dont understand nor have the capability to understand what the art direction is in terms of the soundtrack. The world is in disarray, humans are more selfish than ever, political turmoil, climate catastrophe, etc. Of course the soundtrack isn't gonna sound pretty. Its not supposed to. I can agree the game is pretty broken though so it makes it a little hard to take the soundtrack seriously.

It sounds like cats wailing as they attack a chalkboard.
Comparing the reaction to this games music and Dooms music perfectly encapsulates how important it is that if the soundtrack is experimental, it needs to be earned.
I honestly think this is a fantastic soundtrack especially with how fitting it is with the lore of the game. It really does give you that feeling that everything is wrong with the world and that it all is just one more really bad day away from collapsing in on itself. I would love to see a 2042 movie or series with this soundtrack and much more focus on the lore and how broken the world is.
I am a man of experimental music. I love the uniqueness of almost all of it.
However, if a game soundtrack goes a more experimental route, it has to fit the media it’s in.
This isn’t one.
It’s just too out of place.
It isn’t Battlefield.
exactly my thoughts man, this soundtrack would’ve worked so well if it was for a groundbreaking FPS game with something to say like Spec Ops : the Line or something like that.. Instead we get this heaping pile of shit lol
It would fit if the game actually had a consistent tone.
It isn't Battlefield? No, that Battlefield feeling is an absolute myth.
You know those movies that mix up the scenes so the plot makes no sense
Yea imagine that but in audio form
The fact many people in the comments seem to fail to understand the concept and art direction the music takes just tells me what kind of people are trying to make critiques. People who only harbor a certain amount of capacity to try to understand music that goes beyond typical norms in todays musical scene.this is highly experimental music in its purest form and its meant to make you FEEL something. I repeat,FEEL. When i hear it,i feel a impending doom. Dread, death and hopelessness. Which thats the purpose of it. A world in complete distress, disarray, and chaos. I like it. Kinda love it. Especially the track "Hauled over the coals" and "Load Bearing". Its a shame that a lot of people cant seem to understand nor feel what this OST was meant to provoke within you. Be God dammed if it aint got trumpets or unoriginal hype beats that have been overused at this point
This is why I like 2042's OST
All I feel is blood dripping out my ears...
In my own opinion, soundtracks are meant to set the atmosphere, not make people who listen to it have constant eargasms.
The older Battlefield soundtracks, obviously wanted to make players have a sense of epicness, as they are warriors fighting for glory.
2042's soundtrack, however, makes players have this feeling that their homeland is among the 50 countries that have gone defunct, and they are warriors with only one motive: to fight for their survival.
It's a shame the game didn't go very well with the soundtrack and concept, though.

Too much anxiety. I never played a game where I’m about to turn off the music in the setting.
I don’t really understand much of the hate here. I think this is a great soundtrack. It’s definitely very unique compared to the huge orchestra compositions of games like BF1 and 5. I feel like this really fits the dystopian, torn world and tone that the game tries to go for (but disregards in some part).
Orbital is definitely my favorite. That alarm-like sound is stressful and pressurizing. Although, I do think some songs for when you’re losing/winning should’ve been a little more impactful. Nevertheless, I like the sense of dread that these tracks bring.
