- In the last video of this 4 Part Series, Pat Parelli shows Ricky Carver the beginnings of true horsemanship. Horsemanship is when you can ride, guide, negotiate, stick to your plan, and develop together. Pat explains horsemanship as something you cannot do by yourself, your horse cannot do by themselves, but you two can accomplish together.
The Parelli Education Program coaches horse lovers through 4 Levels:

As a guy in his mid 20s who has always had a passion for working with animals my urge to get a horse and or at least work with horses has been growing for some time now. I absolutely love these videos Pat! The way you are teaching the horse and the rider to share responsibilities is great. Its like having a co pilot if you will.

Pat is great with horses not so great with people. One of the biggest mistakes an instructor can make is to rapidly fire repeated instructions at a student when the student is making an error. The rapid fire words force the student's attention away from the task at hand and create a self defeating sense of confusion and failure. Instantly the challenge becomes to placate the teacher rather than accomplish the goal set previously. Bad mistake! Bad Mistake! Bad Mistake! Pat my friend, Talk softly and slowly. If a student starts making an error wait until he's completed the task and then explain where he went wrong

What does melt mean in this case?
Relax into your horse and do not apply pressure
I think it helps to relax the lower part of your back as you're thinking of melting into your horse. Watch cutting horse competition. Notice how they sit down into the saddle when their horse makes those hard stops and turns.
It's the difference between actively sitting the gait and no longer participating with your energy. You lift food to your mouth when you want to eat and when you're done taking a bite your hand can go back down to gently rest on the table.

I had a hard time watching this guy. Pat is great but Ricky mentally stuck in a rut (old cowboy think). It was painful to watch.
You can tell hes trying though. LOL. Lotta pressure with a crowd and a camera too.
He having an RBI attack. Referred to Pat as a BIG 😳( World famous)rocking chair when Pat talking about him ( Ricky)acting like a cat in a room full of rocking chairs. Maybe you like a go in THE "roundpen " w/ Pat.
