    All I really can say here is bravo for Larry having the confidence that he could sit on the same stage with K.Y. let alone try and play with him. It's a testament to Larry's overall skill but in no way elevates him to the same level. Kasuhito is a peerless player, period. Larry knew this and probably felt an enormous sense of validation as well as humble honor.

    Probably going to get flamed for this, but I can understand why some may be upset with this performance. but personally I really enjoyed this performance. I think it's interesting to see how an infamous jazz guitarist (that brought an ovation acoustic guitar to a classical concert and plays with a pick) pair with a legendary classical fingerstyle guitarists. Sure there was quite a few of dirty and brash notes from Larry, but overall the performance was well rounded

    Apart from the infamous flamenco based trio stuff, I’ve never seen such a combination of guitars and styles before. I have long been a huge fan of Larry’s and Kazuhiro (whom I didn’t know of till now), is obviously a fabulous classical player.
    A brave experiment in meshing jazzy steel string phrasing with the more conventional, organic nylon strung sounds and expressive possibilities.

    Using a pick on a classical piece... Yuck

  • @michelemasincomposer
    @michelemasincomposer 3 года назад +24

    Larry Coryell's technique is very poor, im feeling very unconfortable watching this, they are on two different levels . Go back to books man. Moreover his sound quality is embarassing, i wonder why Yamashita accepted this.

    • @michelemasincomposer
      @michelemasincomposer 3 года назад +5

      @Charles-Valentin Alkan This is not jazz. So i have no reason to judge his tecnique as a "jazz player" this is classical music, please. Plus, a dirty note is a dirty note , just listen man....

    • @barquers
      @barquers 3 года назад +5

      @@michelemasincomposer I agree that a dirty note is a dirty note, but technique is not everything, and without imperfections, this would just be another studio recording. This is what makes the actual performance worth seeing, and why people harp on (not literally) performances on RUclips all the time. It’s something that’s better experienced in person, which is why people attend performances and concerts. I believe they, as two different kinds of guitar players playing two different kinds of guitar for dynamic, and I think it worked very well; I doubt this sort of dynamic could have necessarily been captured on two classical nylon guitars. And regardless of how “well” Larry did or didn’t play in some instances, you cannot deny that he was not truly feeling with the music, which is more important than just finding a “good” classical guitarist (not referring to Yamashita, who was also very much with the music) to play with Yamashita. All in all, there were mistakes, and that’s to be expected from a live performance, no matter how much practice went into it on either end. Still a wonderful and enjoyable display of talent and feeling at the end of the day

    • @michelemasincomposer
      @michelemasincomposer 3 года назад +4

      @@barquersdisagree. Btw, the 2 levels that i referred to are evident, the superficial playing of the acoustic guitarist drags down the performance in terms of quality and respect for the original score. It's obvious here..... And im in total disagree about the original sound of this performance, i would have rather seen a classical guitar duet, where the performance was balanced and precise, accurate and focused on the timbers of the right hand and the choice of fingering, so basically like all Yamashita' s works...

    • @barquers
      @barquers 3 года назад +2

      @@michelemasincomposer I suppose the sounds are subjective, in all fairness, so I recant that statement. I’m sure there are many fantastic performances of classical guitar for the four seasons, but this one changed up the dynamic in a different way. I can definitely see why you would dislike it from a classical standpoint. I do disagree that this is does not display “respect” for the original score, as the “original” score was not for a guitar duet, though I don’t think that Larry should have been sight-reading, if that may be true

    • @marcusliber8865
