Iván Fischer, besides being a great conductor, is an incredible and fantastic human being. His work with the Budapest Festival Orchestra, his pedagogic, social and informativ projects, his warm and scholarly way of explaining and speaking make him a number one without any doubt. I was fortunate to have him near, in Gran Canaria a short time ago during our International Music Festival. I admire you, Maestro!!!

Speaking of Mahler's prophetic ability, the Adagietto very presciently tells us that his marriage with Alma will not be an easy nor happy one. While a case may be made that Alma catalyzed Mahler's creativity and output (as she certainly did for Franz Werfel), she likewise brought him to the brink of a mental breakdown due to her ongoing affair with Walter Gropius.

.. "somehow he was a kind of prophet.."
Yes. Thank you for saying this and it is why I love Mahler with all my heart.
(Not bad for an Irish-Canadian guy eh?)
I love the 7th for the same reason.

The Adagietto feels, to me, to be insulated from the vagaries of tempo. Time is pretty much, somehow, suspended during the playing of the movement, anyway.
