If you have a keyboard that has aftertouch connect it to the modx because the key bed doesn't have it but the modx software dose. Big Mr from Yamaha confirmed this on a Yamaha forum. He said it's a mistake in the manual it does have it so try it.
Hi there. Thank you for watching and for your comment. I had my MOTIF XS when I bought MODX and I have tried doing that - it works really good. Thank you!
@@amateurmusicstudio It's my pleasure and the manual is a misprint it should say aftertouch with connected with an aftertouch keyboard. Take care buddy.
I have the Yamaha modx and I've heard you can get the motif sounds to play on the modx. They say the file is called MOTIFFACTORY.X3A but I can't find it anywhere. Do you have a link or the file? and thanks for the video.
Thank you Darren for your question. I have done it in a different way - I have had the original sound bank for MOTIF that came with the keyboard and I loaded into MODX. Some of the sounds do not play but majority works (at least the ones I am interested in). I can share it with you but not sure what would be the best way of doing it - it is around 400MB. Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks
Hi Darren. I have added the email to the ABOUT tab so hopefully you should be able to email me - let me know if there is any problems with that. Thanks
Yamaha seems to have abandoned the Montage. They have moved heaven and earth to change the Modx+ into a Montage. Barring the subtle sound quality differences only a fool would buy a Montage today. The UI on the montage was never completed. The first screens have nice graphics but you cannot slide values or draw envelopes on it. You must enter a number or scroll a wheel. Dig deeper and all you see is boxes in a grid. No live envelopes, equalizers or oscilloscopes If you were designing a synth then numbers in boxes is what the engineers would use. A musician would expect a colorful and dynamic interface. Proof is the latest addition the 'FM randomizer' Smart Morph. The graphics there belong on a commodore 64. Just big blocks. The automation feature can only go in ONE straight line. No curves or other patterns. 2 years later, all the love is poured on the modx and other models. They get updates. The montage gets nothing. Only a fool would buy a yamaha flagship synth.
Thank you for your comment. I do not owe the MONTAGE but my friend does (the one I have use for making video) and he also uses it once in a blue moon... One thing I would like to say is that the only music I have done on MONTAGE sounds much softer, fuller and more pleasant than MODX but I could only hear the difference after playing MODX all the time and then switching to MONTAGE for a brief moment. I would have to agree with your statement that for the questionable sound quality the price difference is huge. I understand that MONTAGE has more 'cool things' that I liked but again - it all depends on what it would be used for. Thank you for watching the video!
I know - but when I watched the original launch videos I was left under the impression that it was one of the differences between the MONTAGE and MODX but I guess it was removed with the Firmware updates... Thanks!
Are you referring to the equivalent "skip back sampling" line the Fantoms do by constantly recording the last parts you play? The Montage has audio in to record I believe.
thank you for doing this!!!!! no one talks about the motif XS anymore
Shift+Control Assign on Montage is the same as Rythm Pattern button on MODX, was added in a later firmware update.
Oh - thank you. I did not know that. I am glad they have fixed it that way!!! Thank you for watching and for your comments!

Montage doesn't sample either. The sampler is not part of this generation feature set.
