I just want it to tell me the direction I’m being locked on from before I get hit. The last battlefield with helicopters had a little arrow so you knew where to go or what to duck behind to avoid being hit. So in this game you have to be hit, then see what part of your helicopter was damaged?
because vehicles need to be able to be destroyed by ground troops. Do you not understand the very delicate balance between vehicles and ground warfare in a video game to make it fun for everyone?
@@MadRabbit0wnzu ground troops with lock on rocket launchers are fine. They had them in battlefield 4 and could take out choppers just like the AA tank. All I’m saying is in Battlefield 4 it would show you which direction you were being locked on from, to give the PILOT a chance to evade. With no indicator telling the direction there is no balance. If you are in the air you are getting locked onto by troops, other choppers, AA tanks, and jets. Where is your balance there? At least let the pilot know the missile lock on is coming from behind so we can either try to put some distance between us and them, or fly around a building to dodge. If “you” put any time into flying a helicopter you would realize it’s something important that should of been carried over from the previous game. Apparently more people agree with me than you, not saying that in a “haha” way but in a “this matters” way. Especially since 2042 only has the one map available right now, there is nothing you can do if you are being locked onto except flares which have a cooldown. If anything the choppers need a buff on damage. If I’m in the Apache helicopter it takes over 20 missiles to destroy a tank. That means I have to hit it with every missile, then turn around and do it again, without the entire enemy team who have the easy capability of shooting me down noticing me. It also takes this many missiles to destroy the anti-air tank. Which is impossible unless you have a gunner, because it can lock onto you over and over and shoot bullets at you while you have to hit it with over 20 missiles. The attack chopper should be able to destroy all vehicles if you have the element of surprise, but instead it’s a slaughter if you are spotted by the AA tank.
The fact that there is no class based system and add the fact of 64 other enemies compared to the older 32 system. Most infantry is running around with an AA, then the AA tank, and then the jet, and don't forget about the other attack choppers. Then your cool down timer for the flares when you have 10 people locking on 1 after the other..... this seems to happen in about 75% of the matches I have been in. Maybe with the full release more people will have other gadgets besides mostly AA missiles.
I haven't played a bf game since bf3 and I started flying that chopper like i never stopped playing in a couple of hours. The scout heli is my favorite.
What did you reassign E and Q to in the key binding settings? Just tried out this combo and it's great. Thanks so much for your video. Made a massive difference to my outcome.
If somebody struggle with default control settings of heli in bf. Try to switch from left-right on mouse to left-right on keyboard. E.g. Roll Left - A-key, Roll Right D-key and Yaw Left Mouse-Left, Yaw-Right Mouse-Right. That's work perfectly for me even on jets.)))
@@baconatoromg6062 Yeah. If you understood how helicopters fly in real life, (Not saying you know nothing about helicopters) you'd see how realistic they are in both BF3 and 4. Its awesome

This video is magnificent. I've always fared much better in armour than in the sky in BF games and I'm known in my squad for being the "Plx get me out of the pilot seat ASAP" chap 😅 I've watched a few vids and this is by far the most concise and direct explanation of flight mechanics, especially for a fellow old skoolin' inverted Y-axis person. Thank you. The only constructive criticism that I can give is that this vid would also benefit from a quick rundown of the keybindings and settings at the beginning, inc stuff like increasing 3rd person FOV and sensitivity sliders which would make this proper comprehensive...but then I don't know if you've covered this in another video lol Thank you for this, Imma gonna see what my M(inutes) to D ratio is like after flying in solo! 😁
what did they change compared to bf3 and bf4? because i cant fly for shit in bf2042 and i was pretty good in bf3 and bf4. did they invert something? something just doesnt feel right but i cant figure out what
I think flying in this game is more difficult to do than any other game I've played. Which I'm happy for that, they made it more skill based rather than simplified.
xD, I played it and it's just like a little feather on the sky, bruh, play arma 3, or any simulator of war and you'll see what's really a helicopter. Btw I hate the fact this game doesn't have a joystick support, there's no fun in flying without a joystick.
To anyone whos serious about aircraft gameplay I highly suggest to buy a joystick or use a controller. M&K is inferior (compared to sticks) when it comes to air vehicles imo.
Flying heli in BF4 feel more precise but also more free and agile. BF6 Beta felt like a free to play combination of Cod and BF for me. I will continue playing BF4, my favourite one.
Nice, I suck at flying in BF4, this guide helps. Looks like BF2042 make flying easier for keyboard and mouse, I know some people hate it because the controls is crap. I wonder did they change the learning curve for jets or attacker aircraft as well.
Circle strafing isnt really possible for sustained circles in BF due to the lack of momentum and drift when youre flying level. With the contant nose down, youre going to eventuallypitch up or risk getting too close and/or overshooting your intended flight path.
I thought that at first but I then increased my circular strafe distance from the target which helps to not overshoot, and the closer you you want to get to that target you use more roll angle for that tighter turn & circle. Granted there are times when you're having to pitch around adjusting that circular strafe (and thus you're not centred on your target whilst that's happening) so use that time to reload rockets whilst always keeping a few in reserve when you really have no choice but to attack (couple more hits for the kill). The most common times it goes awry is when you're fixated on the target instead of concentrating on continuing your perfect circular strafe which ultimately makes you have to compensate losing precious reticule acquisition.
Fun fact for the barrel roll : just press your arrow keys instead of swiping like a lunatic, flying these things have to be the most difficult thing iv ever had cuz there's no freemoving 3rd person camera
I think it's harder for people to fly in BF2042 when they came from other games with much better flight models. Being entirely unable to proper use my flightstick is definitely not helping me any.
@@iilhares Yeah they’ll probably add that feature but flying just felt boring. BFV & BF4 aren’t flight sims by any means, but I at least felt that some physics were involved and that made it fun. Flying helicopters in 2042 was like flying hot air balloons and planes were rendered unusable for me due to paired controls with the heli and lack of flight stick support.

a technique to dodge heatseekers is to tip the hat manoeuvre where you roll 90 degrees right then 90 to get left at decent speed, you can dodge literally anything if you do it right

it sucks that the key binding in the beta is broken. In battlefield 4 I switched my roll and yaw controls so that I controlled yaw with the mouse and roll with the keyboard, in the beta its bugged so when you do this either you cant yaw left or cant yaw right. I'm back to square 1 in the beta learning to aim with the default flight controls. Good thing the new scout heli has free-kills dumb fire rockets, don't even need to be accurate lol.
Yeah I had the same problem. I feel like it would be so much more intuitive to just do all my aiming with the mouse. I keep trying to and forgetting that mouse is roll, and then I about flip myself over lol.
so if you're doing Q and E for barrel role, what are you using to enter and exit the vehicle? I can just foresee the game throwing me out of the chopper with E still bound to entering a vehicle....
Yaw left does not work if you want to yaw with mouse, and this is triggering me, they have to fix it ASAP, i saw that i am not the only one with this problem.

@@IrishMonkeyIrishmonkey an experienced pilot will always be able to guess the direction and I dont see a problem here
The fact that there is no class based system and add the fact of 64 other enemies compared to the older 32 system.
@@madagascar9407 lmao what kind of bs is that :D how should you be able to tell are you a wizard?
I haven't played a bf game since bf3 and I started flying that chopper like i never stopped playing in a couple of hours. The scout heli is my favorite.
Please do an entire video on flares, dodging rockets, the capabilities of each aircraft.
This ^
Did kinda decent first time flying. Still remember basics from Battlefield Vietnam. Didn't play fb3 or bf4.
Awesome! Thank you. I really needed this. I keep crashing those helicopters randomly xD
Doom im gonna fucking cry man you just appeared in my recommended after years without watching you man, the nostalgia of the bf3 days holy fuck
What did you reassign E and Q to in the key binding settings? Just tried out this combo and it's great. Thanks so much for your video. Made a massive difference to my outcome.
had no idea you could bind barrel roll, you are my hero
If somebody struggle with default control settings of heli in bf. Try to switch from left-right on mouse to left-right on keyboard. E.g. Roll Left - A-key, Roll Right D-key and Yaw Left Mouse-Left, Yaw-Right Mouse-Right. That's work perfectly for me even on jets.)))
They finally added the Apache and the Alligator. Im hyped
Yes, I was very pleased that they added those iconic heli’s as well, but the flight physics in this build are completely fucked in my opinion.
@@lejenddairy I loved the flight physics in 3 and 4. They are the epitome of realistic to me
@@supernova8604 it's about as realistic as helicopters can get in video games without making them frustrating
@@baconatoromg6062 Yeah. If you understood how helicopters fly in real life, (Not saying you know nothing about helicopters) you'd see how realistic they are in both BF3 and 4. Its awesome
As someone whos vaguely flew in bf4 despite having abt 1500hrs, i really enjoy the bf 2042 flying experience, its rewarding for new pilots and easy to learn.
flying is a joke in this game lol.
This video is magnificent. I've always fared much better in armour than in the sky in BF games and I'm known in my squad for being the "Plx get me out of the pilot seat ASAP" chap 😅
I've watched a few vids and this is by far the most concise and direct explanation of flight mechanics, especially for a fellow old skoolin' inverted Y-axis person. Thank you. The only constructive criticism that I can give is that this vid would also benefit from a quick rundown of the keybindings and settings at the beginning, inc stuff like increasing 3rd person FOV and sensitivity sliders which would make this proper comprehensive...but then I don't know if you've covered this in another video lol
Thank you for this, Imma gonna see what my M(inutes) to D ratio is like after flying in solo! 😁
This is the video I been waiting for…
what did they change compared to bf3 and bf4? because i cant fly for shit in bf2042 and i was pretty good in bf3 and bf4. did they invert something? something just doesnt feel right but i cant figure out what
I set my keybinds for rolling to A & D and use the mouse for all of my aiming is so much more precise.
This got me up and running quickly. 2042 controls are odd. Been playing BF since 1942
thank you, finally I know how to turn fast
nice one... I'm new to flying and I'm searching for it... i need more for aircraft, planes and vehicles tutos ...
To anyone whos serious about aircraft gameplay I highly suggest to buy a joystick or use a controller. M&K is inferior (compared to sticks) when it comes to air vehicles imo.
This is a very cool video. Boasted my confidence in chopper. Thanks.
Thanks Doom, I'm switching from console to pc, and this helped me out a lot 🤘😁
very nice video thank you going to practice the roll with Q and E seems like game changer
BInding ROll to E, wont that make yo uexit the vehicle?
Flying heli in BF4 feel more precise but also more free and agile.
BF6 Beta felt like a free to play combination of Cod and BF for me.
I will continue playing BF4, my favourite one.
Another tip is if you like the feel when steering with the mouse, you can instead use the arrow keys
This overview of helicopter flying was great - please make another video with tips on flying!
Nice, I suck at flying in BF4, this guide helps. Looks like BF2042 make flying easier for keyboard and mouse, I know some people hate it because the controls is crap. I wonder did they change the learning curve for jets or attacker aircraft as well.
thank you so much. i had no idea how to use helicopters and they are a really hard to fly
What about "Shift" button? Assistant Flight. I can not fully understand how it works and when to use
Thank you for the video. Please make more.
This was so helpful! Thank you!
everyone goes like 'it's super easy to fly in this game' and me, I die when trying >.
For me, it’s so easy that it’s hard. The gravity is like your on the moon and it completely breaks my brain.
Try to fly in bf4
I think it's harder for people to fly in BF2042 when they came from other games with much better flight models. Being entirely unable to proper use my flightstick is definitely not helping me any.
@@iilhares Yeah they’ll probably add that feature but flying just felt boring. BFV & BF4 aren’t flight sims by any means, but I at least felt that some physics were involved and that made it fun. Flying helicopters in 2042 was like flying hot air balloons and planes were rendered unusable for me due to paired controls with the heli and lack of flight stick support.
Great video. Yes please! More helicopter content! I need to get gud and love flying them in BF, I just struggle getting kills with them.
I use Keyboard, Keyboard and have done since BF2, I find it way better thou flight controls have become more simple with each version of BF
Hey y'all... there is only keyboard as well (which I use in all BF).. using wasd and up/down/left/right arrows on the right... would love to hear advantages and disadvantages by using this technique vs mouse and keyboard... thank you in advance and keep the great work!
Great tutorial and yes would like to see more of these tutorials
Awesome video this helps me allot i gonne practice more ☺️
I just checked your Battlefield 3 tutorial and had to double check whether it is the same person because you sounded differently 10 years ago! lol Thanks anyways, nice tutorial!
Thank you for doing this ! Great video and excellent way to teach and cover all info
Nobody is doing this BRUH. Thanks. ☆☆☆☆☆.keep them coming. Fan in Arizona.
Ill be honest... im a regular flyer... and didn't expect to learn much, with that said, the sharp turn is very useful, and i didn't know about that so thank you for that :) Also quick tip for you, don't use ur pods on light vehicles, use you're miniguns, the DPS is higher and you can save ur pods for infantry.
This is probably the best guide about helis I’ve seen so far, would love to see one about jets too
Super helpful thanks a bunch
Extremely helpful thank you piloting is so fun
Im a pilot in BFV but now im a Heli main. Thanks for the nice guide ;)
How do ypu get out if you replaced E?
GREAT CONTENT GREAT TIPS 🔥☮️
Nice vid, good tips. Thanks.
You are amazing. Great video ty
I've played every game since BF3 and I never got into using any vehicles, tanks being an exception. I maybe have 5 kills in total with airplanes/helicopters.
Which button is used to activate free look around in the helicopter ? Through the gun sights?
I had free movement with the gun sight. How do you turn it on? I can't find it? Where does the helicopter's free-range weapon sight turn on?
Where is menu-option please ? ughh
a technique to dodge heatseekers is to tip the hat manoeuvre where you roll 90 degrees right then 90 to get left at decent speed, you can dodge literally anything if you do it right
Is it possible to switch controls back on ps5 to go up and down with R2/L2?
Bro. I have been raging alllllll day about this. THIS IS THE ONEEEE FUCKING thing I have been dealing with. Something so fucking small. I tried all the settings. Flying with the sticks is for retards. Bf3 and 4 used the triggers for throttle. I can't fly this dogshit.
@@MrDionstarrr I was hoping I was missing something but looks like setting is missing in general. It was called "Veteran" setting before. This is crap I say
@@cyber_sek I really hope they correct this. It's like learning how to walk again for me. It's so non intuitive to use both sticks. It's like driving with a foot on the brake and a foot on the gas.
@@MrDionstarrr i got a bit used to it but it's nowhere as good as before. I am missing the precision in maneuvers
@@cyber_sek yeah I have managed to not crash anymore. But my immaculate maneuvering and ability to engage ground targets effectively is pretty much gone
great tips...keepem coming!
Thanks, more info on being locked and how to best use flare would have been handy
This was helpfull, thanks Doom
I have soooo many problems with planes and helicopters in Battlefield..
I had always a natural talent in flying in GTA 5. I didnt have to practice and still felt like a pro, seeing others fail to control their planes/helicopters. But surprisingly thats not the case in Battlefield for me. I always crash. I just can't deal with my plane/helicopter tilting/rotating when I use the mouse to aim on a target :(
Circle strafes work great for the little birds, not quite for the Condor or Hind. Your side gunners have a difficult time aiming. Overall still a great tutorial! I use and apply every single one of these tactics! Just wanted to see if there was anything else. Ty for the video!
Thanks, man!
thanks! was just looking for this
Glad we have Portal now as I’ll be practice freely not really flown since BC2 lol
Really helpful
Excellent vid
it sucks that the key binding in the beta is broken.
I had key binding issues as well but I turned off my logitech mouse settings that automatically detect games. Seems to cause a lot of binding issues.
actualy it better to do the rolls on A and D and yawing on the mouse, but i have a bug which lets me yawn only 1 side, i hope they fix it... =\
Yeah I had the same problem. I feel like it would be so much more intuitive to just do all my aiming with the mouse. I keep trying to and forgetting that mouse is roll, and then I about flip myself over lol.
Thank you sir for the video
nice video, very detail
You: so now you understand the basic controls
Me: lives 45 seconds
i love how it flies but what’s assisted flight? i don’t feel a difference
Can you do a jet video ? Are the keys and controls the same for a jet ?
so if you're doing Q and E for barrel role, what are you using to enter and exit the vehicle? I can just foresee the game throwing me out of the chopper with E still bound to entering a vehicle....
Wish I saw this a few days ago. What did you bind you enter/exit E key to?..
Yaw left does not work if you want to yaw with mouse, and this is triggering me, they have to fix it ASAP, i saw that i am not the only one with this problem.
I never used knd piloting before and kept crashing for quiet a few games. I was starting to wonder if I should get a controller for my pc? Now I can get 30+ kills doe after a lot of grinding, but wondering if anyone has a "qualified" opinion on pros and cons of piloting with mnk vs controller? Are you missing maneuverability with mnk since you miss all the the angles beween wasd on knd compared to 360 degree movement on a stick?
