A completely ridiculous add-on since all it does is use the Game Gear as a power source, it doesn't even output the audio through the Game Gear, you have to plug headphones in!
what other stuff did they make?
@kidrobot The usual battery packs, screen magnifiers, carry cases etc., but perhaps the best addons were the TV tuner so you could watch analogue TV and my favourite, an Action Replay that allowed you to 'hack' games to make you invincible, infinite money/lives etc. by putting codes in or spend time searching for your own unique codes (I enjoyed that aspect of it).
@@licensetodrive9930 how were they half arsed tho? when they all did what they intended to
Since when is the PSOne and Game Gear even remotely the early days of consoles..? xD You can still get Action Replay devices for more modern consoles; there’s a 3DS one, for example. 😋
@@archgirl considering the gamegear came out in 1990, id say thats pretty retro
Holy shit, LGR's imitation of an English accent is spot-on.
Considering the PS1s internal rendering res, it'll prob look really nice due to higher pixel density over a smaller overall screen size.
For some reason I like the look of the two big screws on the back. They stand out but still fit with the system somehow.
Never been this early to a Ashens Video. Anyway Stay safe Ashens!
Me too
Tells me I'm up way too late.
Majestic timing. I'm about to sleep. Thanks Ashens.
8:46 I thought the screen was glitching at the bottom but that's just the game 😂
still can't believe the PS1 is 25 yrs. old!
fuck
You just answered the question ive been asking ever since I was a kid, and that is, does this thing really work? I saw these everywhere but never saw one that worked. Thanks for answering my life's biggest mystery! Now I can die
You unlocked a old memory from my childhood. I found that competition pro screen flytipped in the woods lol
“Don’t know if you can see it on screen, but it’s not quite as clear as the others”
Screen immediately goes out of focus
For years my parents had different students from different countries stay with us while they did trips with some English Language College.
We had a Japanese student when I was a child who brought his playstation and screen attachment. While he was out during the day he would let me play it, I played soooo much Mega Man on it. Loved it. So much nostalgia here.
I remember thinking the PlayStation would fall flat on its arse when I first heard about it. Yeahhhh...
The ironic thing is both Nintendo and Sega thought this too.
2:44 Very nice showmanship in setting up that reveal.
I worked with a guy back in the day when the PSONE came out and he was insistent on pronouncing it P-ZONE!!😖😂
Did he ask you to come over and play with his p-zone? Maybe he was referring to something else?
Hunter Davis I obviously didn’t take the hint! 😝
I know a guy who insists that “lite” is pronounced “leet”, because “that’s how it’s pronounced in elite.” Every time he mentioned his DS Lite, I wanted to choke him out... 😁
ArchGirl 😂 that’s just stupid!😝 I know the English language/grammar can be a bit archaic, but that’s ridiculous 😆
@ashens I had used the original PS1 screen back in the day as a add on hack for a full sized NES that I kept in my school backpack with a 12V Ni-Cd battery back , and a regulator for the screen so I could play Mario Brothers in my free period I had in High School :P this video brings back good memories, thank you.
I just bought a PSOne about the time you posted this apparently. The damn screen cost 3 times what I paid for the system, but one day I'll pick up one of those as well.
Loved the PlayStation 1 still play the older RE and FF.... love you videos ashens keep em up
Can’t wait to pick up my copy of LSD Dream Emulator. 😂
Classic Ashens. Thanks for this mate. Can't wait for the new movie BTW.
3 units. I was genuinely confused for a second because I'm like.. *I've got three of them*
Cute avatar. :3
I still have the oval ps1 ♥️ and the screen attachment with the rechargeable battery supply 🤘 Could just play anywhere for about 3 - 4 hours 😁 Loved the vid
So do any screens exist for the original PlayStation model? I have the official Sony screen but I want one for the oh PlayStation
i don't believe so
no sorry
nice review, i've been searching for a screen for a long time
IIRC, the official Sony PSone LCD screens were also very popular in the modding/hobbyist community back in the day.
You can now buy quality 4:3 5'' lcd screens from ebay that are just as good for cheaper than these things go for. Also, the circuit boards are smaller on the ebay screens but there aren't built in speakers/audio amp on the ebay ones. So these Sony PS1 screens should probably not be cannibalized anymore.

"Lmao, what an ugly ass memory card, that's the ugliest thing I've ever sceOH SHIT LOOK AT THAT CONTROLLER!!!"
I remember some company made screens for the ps4 it basically looked like the ps4 pro when closed, don't see who that one was for
I think a streamer I watch has one and takes it travelling to cons and tournaments and stuff, because you might not be able to hook up to a hotel screen, so they can get some friends round and play fighting games.
Definitely a niche product though.
Woooooaaah, thats a blast to the past. My uncle owned one many years ago when I was a kid.
