Love your videos! I got my Splendid in May of 2020 as a rooted node with an unfurled leaf. It was tiny! Now the leaves are almost as big as my head. I have it in a chunky aroid mix in a mesh pot covered by a cache pot. I've found it really easy and very tolerant of regular household humidity of about 30 to 40 percent. Atmospheric humidity here is often less than 10 percent but the house stays a bit higher. I've only had one stuck leaf, but it was after repotting. I keep it near an east window. It did have spider mites early on, but it seemed to shrug them off pretty easily with a few neem treatments. It's pretty much consistently my favorite and love how velvety the new leaves feel! I just got 2 Splendid plants. They are small, but have 8-10 small leaves. I am super excited to see them grow. I have them in the mix the greenhouse I got them from sold them to me in. It looks like peat moss. I have only had them a couple of weeks, so I haven’t wanted to replant them yet. My dream plant was/is a Verrucosum. But now I have these 2, I am pretty satisfied and will probably choose other plants over it. Especially after hearing that they are more difficult for you. Thankful for the information. I will watch closely for root rot and pray that doesn’t happen! Thanks for your great videos.
i would love a vid on why you don’t use heat mats and where their utility is limited. i live in a similar cold and wet climate and have thought of getting one. love this video
I have a one leaf cutting that was lightly rooted in perlite. I placed it in leca and i swear after 2 weeks there was a foot long root hanging out the bottom of the pot followed by two more shorter yet still long roots

How do you keep it warm? How big is it? Do you have a seating area just to sit and enjoy the plants on there? I used to love to read old romance novels where people spent all this time in their conservatories working and living. Would love a video tour and background information.

Interesting, I bought a well rooted cutting 3 months ago, potted it in aroid mix and it completely rotted! I cut it below a node and it rooted within two weeks in damp perlite. It’s now got two leaves, and I’m going to pot in something other than aroid mix. Thanks, very informative 😊

Great video! Please do the video on heat mats! I used some but stopped, I think my propagations and acclimating plants didn't care for them. I got root rot..

I think I have a splendid. I bought it as a verrucosum type (2021 March) but as it grew it looks more and more like a splendid. it’s planted in my aroid mix and has never given me much trouble except for a dash of spider mites.

I don't have the clarinervium as I apparently managed to kill the easiest anthurium, but I do have the Crystallinum, so yes i will add that to the list too
Did you build conservatory? What is your setup to keep it constant heat and humidity? I’m trying to set up greenhouse but want to make sure my plants don’t die. Great videos. Thanks
No we inherited the conservatory when we bought the house, it is getting replaced hopefully this summer. humidity is easy to stay constant, airflow is something that is needed and i also run a dehumidifier in the conservatory to bring the humidity down a bit . temperature is the biggest struggle as the conservatory has polycarbonate roof and not glass. glad you are enjoying ☺
I have had a baby splendid for about a year now. I e propagated it 2 times. It has propagated fine in a humidity bag. ( a plastic ziplock type plastic bag) I had mine in a very chunky mix. It seemed to like it. One of my props stalled and did not grow for a while ( my plant room is between 55-60% humidity. )so I put it in a humidity bag and it started growing. My mother plant I just put in a self watering pot in extremely airy mix. I'm not sure if it likes it. It just dropped two of its oldest leaves. I'm not sure if it is because of the self watering or because I repotted it.
Oh wow very interesting, thanks for sharing, yeah see your experience is the same as mine, i think this is a plant that generally does not like its conditions being changed and can throw a bit of a sulk for a beat before it gets going. I had the same stalling happening on mine when it was getting root rot both times, so maybe just keep an eye on the self watering for a bit and check roots if needed. I left mine too long before i checked and by the time I checked all were rotten 😣😭
I have three beautiful plants that I propagated from a single leaf cutting, in one pot. It had just started attaching to the moss pole and then it got thrips. :/ Currently my predatory mites are taking care of that outbreak. But it’s a shame. Losing loads of older leaves and brand new leaves on several plants. I hate thrips.
Ohhhhhhhhhhhh nooooo!!!! I feel your pain, i think we can all agree we hate thrips, i think by far some of the most damaging pests you can get in a house. Hopefully it will be under control soon and everything will start being happy again.
I've had terrible results when I had my splendid in leca with a water reservoir. The roots never rotted, but I think she just didn't like it much or maybe it was just that there was too much fertilizer in the water? Because literally all the leaves, about a month after unfurling, developed a lot of yellowing from the edges. Feeling like it was most likely too much fertilizer? Because if it were the moisture that was the issue, the roots wouldn't have been healthy.
Yeah i can imagine that would be the case, based on the size of the roots as they can be quite thin in relation to other philodendrons, i wonder if the air gaps in the Leca might have been to big, mine is in Pon and it seems to like it, but i fertilise very very weekly and flush the Pon every month.
I just got a big splendid cutting that has 4 nodes, & the top 3 nodes have leaves also. There's also little growth points starting at every node, above the little arial roots. Can I cut & make her into 3 cuttings? Will those arial roots be enough for it to grow into new plants??

It’s called philodendron esmeraldense. I also saw it on Memo’s videos and watched all his videos until he referred to it by name. Beautiful plant but I found it very difficult to find a mature specimen for sale, in the UK at least :(

I have this Baby and she was difficult in the beginning because I was using an aroid mixture but kept it too wet. NOW as with all my Alocasia She lives very happily in Leca since the guesswork of watering is eliminated. I find that Leca is fantastic for most plants including Hoyas, Anthuriums, and Tradescantia. Actually I only have 3 from the 100+ in soil, but that will soon change to 100%. For those Whom have a Maranta Lemon Lime Leca is the secret to brown tips, and fast growth. Because of the moisture from the Leca balls the plant is constantly in a humid environment and it loves it. It grows very quickly putting out a new leaf every week. I will be putting her on a Moss pole and then the leaves will become huge. It’s very important to do a Pest routine in spring and fall just to be sure. I personally do this with all my plants and it works for me. Neem oil, mild soap, and filtered or distilled water is all you need. Give the plant 24 hrs. without strong sunlight and she’ll thank you by giving You beautiful leaves and big corms. Thank for the video.

Mine has been in water for months… glad to know I’m not doing anything wrong. Mine is also way smaller at about 8” tall…😞
yeah it can be a bit tricky to get started from my experience, if you can be patient, then it should start growing nicely

Its such an easy plant, personally I’m more worried about where it’ll grow as itll get too bug for my house

Yes actually relatively quickly and no real support needed to get bigger leaves, only my usual janky support sticks
