    As far as fees go I feel they do much more than you mentioned. They get all of your tax information ready so you can just print and go to an accountant. They put all of your addresses in one place populate them give you the discounted shipping cost. I sell up to 20 items a day just typing all of the addresses would take me a hour then I have to figure the shipping cost etc.. I look at the fees as Ebay does about as much as an employee would be doing. I have said this many times you can get your own website for free or very cheap put all of your items on there and never sell anything without well over 15% marketing and then you are still not going to draw what Ebay does. So all of the Feebayers out there I hope you don't ever figure it out. There is absolutely no place on earth or the internet you can get more eyes on you items except maybe Amazon and they charge more, accept any excuse for returns and will close your store because you had a typo in a listing.

    When i first heard about the phenomenon you mentioned about touch/thinking about an item and then it sells, I was skeptical. Thought it was just RUclips resellers trying to make content or clickbait. Until, it happened to me. Good video!

    Yes, I've had the same experience. I recently mentioned to friend that I was surprised a hand crafted dough bowl I had listed on eBay hadn't sold. A couple days later, it sold. When I had a space in an antique mall and stocking my booth, I'd decided to take home an item that had been sitting forever. I'd be tired at the end of stocking and rearranging and decide I didn't want to deal with that long sitting item and I'd leave it. Next day it would sell. This happened over and over. It's so weird! Some kind of cosmic energy?

    I had the same experience the other day. I found a vintage set of salad tongs I had forgotten about, that have been listed for almost 2 years, and they sold that night. Also, last week I sold a couple of Tiffany candle votives, the same day to different people on different platforms…that was odd too.

    Glad you won the scammer issue. I sold a TI84 to a guy who sells a ton of calculators. The day after he received it he opened a return with pictures of the same model and a damaged display. I believe he was sourcing parts to do swaps for his benefit. I accepted the return but I also asked ebay to look at his return history because it just isn't cool. I bubble wrapped the daylights out of it and shipped in a box. He returned it in the same box that had zero damage. People suck.

      That is a bummer. I used to only sell collectibles and didn't accept returns for that reason. Now, I'm focusing on clothes and other categories, and so I decided to at least start offering buyer-paid returns.
      With the broken screen on your calculator return, if the item arrived damaged to the buyer (supposedly), would you not be able to file a mail claim with the shipper? I'm not sure how you shipped it, but Ground Advantage and some shipping methods come with at least some insurance ($100 for ground advantage).
      The one time I had to file a damage claim with USPS, I was actually happy with how smooth it was. Though even though I got the buyer a full refund they still are my one and only negative feedback.

    I sold my own personal DAMAGED Apple watch. Clearly damaged in the photos, with a cracked screen after I dropped it, listing stated what happened and damaged for parts only. The buyer gets it, says he can't fix it it's too broken and wants his money back. He had to ship it to me and then I had to tell eBay, not only did he decide the damaged watch was "too damaged" (as if that's even a thing) but when I got it back I saw he had taken the watch completely apart and it was good for nothing but the garbage at that point, it was basically in pieces and looked nothing like my listing photos. eBay gave him his money back but not at my expense. I was happy I had my money from the sale, but really not fair that he got to damage my item and somehow blame me. Just not cool.

    Be careful with that lamp. There are more Chinese fakes out there than real Murano. From looking at the lamp that someone is trying to sell, I very much doubt it is Murano as well. I would definitely show it to a professional before listing. If it is sold overseas and it is a fake, you would be in trouble. Good luck! Very glad you and Ebay punished the scammer!

    • @FrugalRad
      @FrugalRad 4 месяца назад

      I have wondered that if a seller doesn't know an item is fake, to what degree are they liable? I've heard of even authenticators being fooled by fakes. So I wasn't sure how that worked. It's not a topic I know much about, though, since I haven't really had to deal with it yet.
      I did pick up a pair of kids' Nikes that I didn't look at closer until I got home. I think they are counterfeit, so I decided not to list them. Thankfully, my daughter likes them and should grow into them soon, lol.

    Thank you for pointing out that people only cry out when they have negative experiences. I have only been selling for a year but so far, eBay has had my back. That being said, I do not agree with eBay passing on credit card disputes to the sellers. I believe that is a burden that eBay should bear being as though the buyers can ask eBay to step in to help out when there is a problem. If the buyer decides to escalate beyond that, it should be on eBay's shoulders being as though EBAY allowed that buyer to use said credit card. That's just my opinion though.

    Speaking of tax season…. I’m trying to set up bookkeeping and spreadsheet. I have a big closet full of NWT clothing, accessories, and NIB shoes purchased over the years that I am looking to sell.
    How do I handle ‘cost of goods’ for my bookkeeping? Do I estimate, or dig through a huge box of receipts and find the actual cost of each item? I already paid taxes on these purchases, so isn’t it being taxed twice when I sell it?
    It’s all very overwhelming, TIA!

    People that complain about eBay's fees haven't tried other outlets. For example, I send some items to a local consignment shop, I deem those items not worth the time and effort to list. They take 50%! And for that 50%, I only get access to a small, local audience. In person auctions often charge 33%. Once again, you only get access to the people that show up, small local market. Meanwhile, ebay gives me the entire world. And top rated sellers pay slightly lower fees. It's really not too bad all in all. We had a slow week but we did sell several books. Books sell SLOW, so any day I sell a book is a GOOD DAY! Sold five books yesterday. Three I got out of the free bin, so a nice return there.

    My sales have been a little slow as well. Not terrible but the last 2 weeks I’ve only sold about 75% of what I normally sell. That phenomenon you’re talking about happens to me all the time! It’s super wild! I also have thousands of sales and I was scammed once when I was a new seller back in the early 2000’s but it was only about $45. I was scammed on FB Marketplace once too and I no longer sell there. Scams are few and far between in the reselling business. It doesn’t happen to me anymore although occasionally people sometimes try, but I know what to look out for now. Resellers can really only learn through experience.
