    Wow, rewatching your video I can see where my roasts differ. I'm usually done roasting before you hit fc, probably my problem.

      I would not say that. Just depends on what you like tasting!

    Still coming back to this video for hints, lol. Was wondering what your approach to a washed ethiopian would be (charge temp, ROR, drop temp, etc)? You're the only one offering any kind of advice with this specific roaster!

      You inspired me to make a new one buddy. I have been trying to figure out my new camera for the past couple days. I will post soon, I'm doing an Ethiopian as well

      @@drinksunbear That would be fantastic. I've been watching your vids like crazy, taking notes, trying to copy what you're doing on the Kaldi Wide 400. A roast-along video with your process would be amazing. You've been a great teacher so far!

      @@drinksunbear We have a little cafe in Tokyo where I started just using a mesh screen to roast. Moved up to the Behmor 1600 and then to the Kaldi Wide 400 which I've been using ever since, hence why I watch your explanation videos so much lol.

    I have the Kaldi fortis 600 and I built my own chaff collection system and separate bean cooler

    Thanks for the video! How do you determine what rate of rise you are trying to achieve? Is it different for different phases of the roast?

    • @drinksunbear
      @drinksunbear  3 года назад

      great question. Honestly, each bean is different. Once I have roasted a new bean I adjust my rate of rise according to how long I want it to roast and based off where I want to drop

    • @drinksunbear
      @drinksunbear  2 года назад

      Each bean is different obviously but without giving numbers I’d say progressively rising but not with sudden changes

    Thinking about buying this roaster and your vids have been a lot of help. Any problems with air flow? Do you think Kaldi's $400 chaff and air flow addition is worth it? I noticed you're not using the ventilation hookup they sent with the package, is there a reason for that? Thanks!

    • @drinksunbear
      @drinksunbear  3 года назад +1

      I have not spent the money on the vent system. But I’m thinking just for the chaff it is a good idea. But I don’t see why I can’t maybe make my own with a shop vac

      @@drinksunbear Just wanted to let you know I got my Kaldi roaster and after watching your videos many times over have roasted some reallllyyy good coffee with it. I was wondering if you've tried back-to-back roasts and if so, do you let the machine cool down at all before starting the next batch? How many roasts do you think you could do back-to-back with this machine?

      @@spookylovin hey Kyle! Congrats on the new roaster. I actually do roast back to back most of the time. I wait for the temp to get to 325 and drop the beans again and start over

    Curious about what brand/model of burner you purchased for this? What are your feelings on the 400 now that you have had it a while?

      it's a Chefmaster 12,000 btu off of amazon. Nothing special. It works fine. It does go through butane cans and they are a pain to recycle here so I want to switch to propane. I still love the Kaldi it does a great job
