SUPER CLEAN INSTALL! Midland MXT275 GMRS 2-Way Radio - Jeep JL/JT Gladiator Build - Installation

- Installed the Midland MXT275 GMRS 2-Way Radio in my Jeep JT Gladiator, but the installation is the same for the Jeep JL.
My Jeep Gladiator Build Playlist • Jeep Gladiator Build Mods
I chose the MXT 275, because all the controls are on the microphone, so the radio can be installed out of sight and not clutter up the dash. I also powered the radio by connecting it to the battery instead of using the 12V cigarette plug. The installation of the Midland MXT275 GMRS 2-way Radio in my Jeep Gladiator came out nice and clean.

Also, if you ever have trouble with transmission or reception, check the antenna connection. They loosen up easily. Some blue Lok-tite might be the ticket, or possibly electrical tape.
No if you ever have trouble with transmission and reception It's the "Ghost Antenna"I don't know why they make it it's one of the worst and ugliest antennas I've ever had!
Great video very clear and easy to understand. Thanks for the help and posting this.
Thanks! Glad it helped!
Awesome video! We are getting ready to install ours and this is a very clear and easy to follow video. Thank you for making this.
Thanks! Good luck on your install!
We just picked this radio up for our JL and this was a very good and informative video ☺ Thank you
Thanks! Good luck with the install. 👊🏾
Great radio and I did mine in a similar fashion. Warning: The Rugged Radio antenna mount WILL break, eventually. As the bend stresses over time it weakens and it'll break right off, as happened to mine. There are clones on Amazon that are stronger and less expensive. Win/win! Btw, the ghost antenna may not cause it to break so soon, since it does not move so much in the wind. But its reception is terrible in that location, as it is blocked by the Jeep's body and windshield frame. A longer Midland 6db antenna works much better and will get you miles more range.
Thanks for the info!
Thanks found one $10 cheaper hope it works 100%
excellent vid.. very useful and install is clean looks great
Thanks! Glad it helped.
Clean install
Great video
Thanks!
Thanks for the help. Irks me that Midland wouldn't make a hardwire kit for something so popular
Yeah that’s doesn’t make sense to me either.
Good video
Thanks!
Clean install! I just ordered the exact radio for the same reasons you mentioned. If you want to wheel together let me know. I go out and about by myself too much.
I’m interested in meeting local jeepers. Hit me up on Instagram!
@@MoreDirtMoreDistance I just followed you.
I don't know why everyone likes that ghost antenna but I don't the one I have is the MXTA 26 6 b gain you get lower swr and twice the range and it's preset by midland and the price for the License IS $35 NOW check with the FCC you'll see it is $35 for 10 years
I think your ghost antenna is too low. That will impact radio range. The mount you have is suited for a taller antenna. The top of the antenna should be higher than the roof line. Check out where other Jeep’s have installed their ghost antennas. All the best!
Yeah the instructions say to get the antenna as high as possible. I checked out range videos and for my purposes the range is fine where I have it mounted. I haven’t had any issues. If I find that it becomes an issues i can always move it. Thanks.
Just found your channel. Great job on your install of the Midland MXT275 GMRS. Quick question, where did your store the excess co-ax cable? Thanks!
Thanks! I just bundled it up and zip tied it under the dash.
Very clean install! Have you thought about upgrading your radio? I have the 8.4 I'm happy with that but I see there's some way nicer aftermarket ones.
Thanks! I definitely want to upgrade my radio. The screen is way to small. I’ve checked out a few aftermarket radios that look nice.
@@MoreDirtMoreDistance get ready to lighten your wallet 😁😭
@@Bucky5068 Facts!!! 🤣
Hows that antenna in that location working for you? I thought that antenna needed a grounding plane.
I haven’t used it very much, but haven’t had any issues.
Would it be easier to hook up the wires to one of the aux switches ?
You can do that also. I didn’t do it because all my switches are being used.
@@MoreDirtMoreDistance , okay thanks.
From the close up picture, I am disoriented and have no idea where you actually installed the radio.
Agreed. The whole point of the video was lacking.
great work , can you do mine if I order one. lol. I suck at installs. HAHA
Thanks, but once is enough 🤣

If it helps the fee dropped and as of late April 2022 it is now 35$.
Thanks for the update!
GMRS License is now 35.00. I got my call sign today. (March 2023)
Thanks for the update.
Where did you mount the radio? I missed that somewhere?.
Underneath the driver dash on the leftside is a black box I stuck it on that.
@@MoreDirtMoreDistance My man! I was just going to ask this, thank you! Also, I wheel solo more than I wheel with my friends (due to work schedules), you aren’t the only one. Definitely would recommend a Zoleo, Garmin SPOT, or similar 🫡
@@rxtu7367 I have a Zoleo and satphone better safe then sorry.
Have you had any issues using 16 gauge since the power cord is 14 gauge?
I checked my unit and the power cord is 16 gauge on mine. I’m not sure if going from 14 to 16 would create any issues.
@@MoreDirtMoreDistance where did you find the info on the gauge for ur unit? I cant seem to find any info on it
@@motoventures5610 The wire gauge is marked on the insulation. Check the red wire.
@@MoreDirtMoreDistance thanks 👍
@@motoventures5610 No problem 👊🏾
I had that ghost antenna as far as I know it's still in the creek where I through it I hated it and I DON'T recommend it it's got high SWR which will burn out your radio and you won't get to much range with that stupid little piece of junk!Get the MXTA 26 It's a 6 db gain I've been using it since 2017 and I highly recommend it so if you want extended range in case you need it don't get the ghost antenna or you'll regret getting it.
