I'd like to make a petition for Jeff Rolka to be nominated for a Grammy. This is the best 20 minute vocal warmup of all time for tenors. It gets the placement perfectly in the nasopharynx so none of the vowels fall back. It being 20 minutes means you won't be fatigued afterwards. You are incredible.

I don't know if this helps anyone else but I tend to write down the vowels of the exercise:
    ME I
    ME U
    ME A
    ME O
    E EU U
    E A O
    A O OOH
    I E A O U
    E A O U I
    UH O A E I
    O A E I UH
    E A O
    E A O U I
    Great vocal exercises, thanks Jeff!

That was EXTREMELY challenging. But I’ve done 3 months of your regular warm up, then 1 month of adding another 15 of the vocal agility and that REALLY helped with this one! Wow. Like vocal Olympic. Thank you!

Jeff, I was having such a hard time focusing this morning and I have been worried that perhaps my range is decreasing bc I have been singing in lower keys for my band. I started doing lip trills bc I couldn't remember the vowels. Then, as I got used to the second to last pattern, I opened my lips and tried the syllables and I realized I was pretty high already! Then, you picked up the pace and that really helped me get my head back in the game! I had such a good time I found myself laughing! I don't know why, but I was so happy. Man, I don't know how you got so comfortable with the camera, but it is like I'm in the studio with you--minus how you might react to my reactions. Thank you for building up your skills so that you can make these videos more than instructive but connective. I'm almost positive that is not a word outside of Biology as a subject. Any how, I'm grateful. God bless you!

      Sexy huskiness plus plus
Was an outdoor street party for road opening, then a few hours around the fire pit. Voice was on point for entire time, next morning in van straight back into your tenor exercises and ready for action :)
I know as a student we have to DO the work day in day out. No two ways about it.
      And It pays off.
Following a teacher like you makes the journey so much more reassuring!
Can’t recommend you to enough other musos I meet when they compliment my voice!

I hadn't seen this one before! Where was I? That was a bit challenging. It pushed me to go to very high notes I hadn't used in a long long long time. Sure my vocal cords weren't used to be worked out at that height and I could feel it. But at the same time I felt that it was just lack of exercise. I'll keep trying to make them sound better. :) Great warm up

Doing the long notes to finish is really good. Interestingly, my sax teacher wants me to practice long notes too (but at the start as a warm up). And I want to say that by doing everything in this video, I was able to go above Bb4 and feel no tension. Thank you Jeff!

Wonderful! Long tones on the saxophone are great! I usually do them with my tuner and do a variety of intervals over the tonic to hear and feel the intervals.

Hello Jeff! Thank you for all your work, it lifts my spirits whenever I do your exercises, which bc of work and other demands is four times weekly I'd say. For half an hr or so. Is it possible to progress with this routine do you think? And how does one reach the point where they are competent in that exhilarating but brutal last exercise?? My warmest regards, Will

Hey Jeff, thanks so much for this workout. Quick question, what’s the last exercise known as in fancy terms (when you hold one note over changes?)

    • @JeffRolka
      @JeffRolka  3 года назад +1

In singing, one might think of it as a messa di voce exercise, but in purely musical terms, one might call it a drone.
I hope that helps! Thanks for watching!
      Jeff

This one’s hard 😳 should I be in falsetto for the highest of highs here?

    • @JeffRolka

Depends on the variety of tenor you might be, but most likely just crico thyroid dominant singing voice sung as voce piena in testa.
