Casey always says in his vlogs to work harder and be productive. But we can't cause we are addicted to his vlogs and I've been watching them the whole day
It s ok, I can be like this for a week or so, but the talking in the video is much more positive than other blog, and some great ideas should be heared and remembered, everyone should read a book like chicken soup once a while
It's amazing seeing a video like this in 2021 after watching Casey's current interviews on how this level of hustle both built him the best life he could imagine, and also almost ruined his marriage, prevented him from being present with his daughters, and completely killed his social life. Seeing him retire in his mid 30s worth millions to focus on the fam I'd say the end justified the means, but this was a sprint pace, not a marathon.
He does make it seem like he had it together though in this and really throughout the vlog you never really doubted that he was struggling. The dude made it look effortless. I appreciate his honesty now and he’s made many videos on the ‘price’ of the hustle/ being a RUclipsr. In retrospect the vlog set him for life, so I totally agree it was worth the sacrifice. The vlog will continue to gain a new audience. It’s the absolute definition of passive income.
I don't keep up to date with casey, I watch his videos every now and then, what happened with his marriage and family? Candice not satisfied he was spending enough time with them?
"this was a sprint pace, not a marathon" well put. I agree, it's been interesting to contrast 2015 Casey vs. 2020+ Casey. It's sometimes necessary to sprint, but you can't do it forever. It's just critical you find whatever your version of "balance" which is going to be different for everyone
Was just about to comment something similar. Essentially it did work but it was a gamble and it's so tiresome that some people seem to think it's a permanent lifestyle choice. Even putting aside how you slow down with age, this level of intensity can't be sustained for more than a few years. Also, interesting watching this straight after another vid from 2018 where he talks about his schedule and even then the work hours have dropped considerably, he no longer works late at night and the fitness hours are down to like one a day. He's still operating on like six hours sleep but that's a huge change from four hours.
This is a very 'New York attitude'. Here in Spain; fun, family and sleep are considered central to a good life. Work isn't. Even a work of passion must be balanced. After all, we die at the end.
BRYAN351 And? Since when was 'productivity' (i.e. consuming a disproportionate amount of resources vs population) noble?
8 лет назад+54
MAX LAWLESS™ Other than plunder, wealth creation is the only thing that lifts people out of poverty and improves living standards for all. Try to lose your Marxist brainwashing. Consumption is not production, and who decides if a country's consumption is "disproportionate" to its population? What does that even mean?
It's not rocket surgery my Brother. Wealth and poverty are not connected. Modern-day productivity is merely the illigitimate re-appropriation of resource.
Not to mention the US GDP relies on War and has for a long time. Do we need to go on? In short. The US/Anglo-American Empire is producing chaos. Viva Espana.
Casey! Holy crap, this came at such a good time. Time management is the key to everything, I really appreciate how straight forward you are, and the work you put in I'm motivated to start using your ideology!
Lateef Thynative Me too! I've been feeling convicted lately of not using my time efficiently and with purpose. My dad's always told me that balance in life is important, which is hard, but like you said, time management is key!
Exactly. It's all females who send nude selfies to him to saying bored. But he changes it doesn't he. To make it sound like big fat builders that are bored send him snaps.
We're not all the same, Casey. What you think of as a "waste" of time, to other people, keeps them sane. It's like when you run. If someone told you that you running was a complete, utter waste of time that you should spend working or sleeping (4hrs a night is rough), you would tell them to f*ck off. Productivity is great and a necessary part of life and mental health. But for me, solitude is as well. I HAVE to have free time to myself or with someone I love almost every day to stay sane. When I'm on my death bed, I highly doubt I'm going to wish that I was more productive. I will probably wish that I had more time to spend on myself and the people I love.
Weird comment cause he never says you have to do any of the things he’s talking about, he obviously made this video as a message to people who aren’t using their time wisely that every second counts, seems like an attention seeking comment
Well yeah, but do you really think that playing video games for 6 hours straight is time used wisely? I usually feel worse after playing games. In comparison to exercising, video games is bad af not only for your mental health but also for your physical health. Sorry but your comment seems like bullshit to me and @Bad Boys Hub yeah I agree with you, you’re just seeking for attention
@@tuhlesbrot6708 6 hours straight every day? Or 6 hours straight every few weeks/months? Also playing video games in not bad af. It's not even close to just bad. Playing video games for 6 hours straight every or almost every day is bad. Maybe you should read the countless studies that it is actually beneficial to play video games.
Fact: Time spent having fun is not time wasted. Work is important, but eventually you'll be dead and no one will remember who you were or what you did. Intentionally trying to leave behind a "legacy" is a very egocentric mindset, and ultimately the people who have the greatest legacies weren't trying to leave behind a legacy at all, they were just doing what they knew was right.
Nothing No kidding. I might feel differently hearing that from a doctor or scientist but nobody will give a shit about some stupid RUclips videos about skateboarding in NYC when you are gone.

Intentionally trying not to leave behind a "legacy" is a very egocentric mindset, and ultimately the people who have the greatest legacies weren't egomaniacs. They had good work ethic, they were just doing what they knew was right - working hard.
It’s been almost 5 years since you uploaded this video (and that I watched it) and without me knowing, it totally changed me. I stumbled upon this video today and remembered 15 year old me watching this without knowing it would change me so much. I’m so grateful for the videos you’ve shared and the good influence you’ve been on so many of us
50 or 60 is old???? Omg...my husband was 64 when we had our first child, 65 when the second one came, and by the time he was 70, he had built an empire that reached the entire world. He's 92 now, and just retired. Don't ever think we get old...our flesh may age but our mind, attitude, and energy can stay with us until the day we die, depending on how we DECIDE to frame our life. Boredom is a killer, thanks Casey for bringing this up.
+Linda Kordich not sure how accurate my comment will be but the only thing i'm worried for you and your husband is that; your son/daughter won't be able to be around with you guys for a long period. might be a stupid comment but age is terrifying! but the things you do together is far more important .. So yeah. Time wins over age
kaneissik what do you mean everyone? you must been lucky to only find my comments then.. I comment on things that i find interesting. does that make you mad?
+Stevo Canuck Hi Stevo.....yea, I was 25 and he was 57 when we got married. He had been a CASEY type all of his life, truthfully, but unmarried. We worked together for almost 35 years to build an empire, which we did...very interesting life and we did have two children. They are both 31 and 29 now and have had a really rich life with their dad up until about 4 years ago, when he started to really slow down. So yea, time and experience combined with a lot of FUN AND LOVE is by far more important than age differences. So I just wanted Casey to think , OMG..60 is old, no way....but I'd like to see him change his diet, lol. :)
If you vlog, you'll know it is a lot harder than it seems. Plus with his company, his family, and all the extra stuff he does I am surprised he makes them as good as he does. But you are right the old ones are a little more put together, they are still good nevertheless though.
I dont know if higher quality are the right words for it. Its different- this whole episode is just a bit. And i know he said that this particular episode was gonna be a little different, but i feel like a bunch of his older ones were just him talking or telling a story or something like that. And trust me i love those and thats why i come to watch these old ones every once in a while, but i really think i prefer the crazy, jam packed, always moving, awesome Casey days. Thats just a personal preference. But I wouldnt say they are lower quality.
I used to sleep 4 hours a day and work most of my time when i was in my 20s until i went into a pure nervous breakdown with a 10 years depression. So time will wait for me ;)
I know this is an old Vlog but to anybody stumbling across this video and trying out this schedule remember that you should never cut down your sleep. Free time might be the enemy of progress but sleep deprevation is the enemy of health. You need a minimum of 7 hours per night, not to be awake mentally but to minimize your risks of causing serious damage to your physical and mental health. Some of the risks of regular sleep deprevation include, heart failure, strokes, depression and high blood pressure. Also, even if you feel awake it s a fact that the quality of the work you do in a sleep deprived state suffers as well. You want to have a long life, not just to get a lot of work done but also to be able to enjoy the fruits of your labor and for that you need to be healthy. Stayin healthy is not difficult, all you need is 7 hours of sleep, some exercise (it doesn't have to be 3 hours but it s ofc not bad XD) and a balanced diet. If you deprive yourself of sleep you are actively working towards an early death and you can t work when you are dead. So yeah, ironically if you say to yourself "I can sleep when I'm dead" you aren t actually gaining time by sleeping less. You are losing time.
I had the same idea. I will never sacrifice anything for sleep. If my sleep is compromised, it will affect my progress. 6 hours is the bare minimum for me. I might have a 4 hour sleep day but I will supplement with a 2 hour or 2 one hour naps. I respect Casey’s style, but it’s very unhealthy.
I like how the time management didn't include any fun, yet I watch the blog and it just seems like a lot of fun interspersed into the work hours to me. don't try to hide your fun!
I wish you would do a follow up video. How has your perspective changed in the last five years. Are you the same? I noticed a shift on my attitude towards life as I get older.
***** Like he probably takes that last half hour of his exercise time for showering and eating on the way to work. Lunch is obviously during work. Dinner/Supper is during family time.
Don't expect to be out of the game in your 50s. I'm closing in on 60 and I feel as if I'm just getting started. My ideas are coming faster and stronger now more than ever. I expect to be working and creating for another 30 years.
I'm watching these vlogs in a completely random order but it would be interesting to see an updated version of this one. The shift in prioritises as you get older.
+Gillian Wong The motto "Sleep is for the weak" is bad. Average person needs 7 hours of sleep. But there are some people for whom 4 hours is enough, you should google that topic if you want to know more. I believe CEO of Yahoo is one of them.
4 hours of sleep a night, 3 hours of exercise and ~12-13 hours of work every day... I think I figured out the reason behind the bags under your eyes man. I can admire your philosophy of making the most out of your time but there's also such a thing as taking it too far man.
No, not it's not just something generic like "motivation." Some people physiologically need less sleep than the rest of us because of their favorable genetics. Because of a certain gene variant that regulates circadian rhythms there's about 5% of the population that only needs 6 hours or less a night to feel fully rested. Casey is almost certainly one of those people.
I haven't looked into it, but apparently people go in and out of deep sleep, every 1.5 hrs or so of their sleep cycle. When I go to sleep at 12/1am and wake up for work at 5pm - I would feel just the same as when I went to sleep at 10pm... I would wake up feeling like complete crap, but 5mins later I'm wide awake. Despite all of that, I'm a very lazy person lol.
when this video came out, I was a kid wanting to understand Casey's passion and try to understand what this guy was saying. Even down to when he talked about his time working as a dishwasher... my version of that was trying to stay in school for nursing, but at the same time, my passion was Photography/Cinematography. I only had a year left of nursing school and I better on myself to become a full-time creative. 5 years later after watching videos like this, I can finally say that my passion happens to be my job. I love this career and waking up knowing this has been the best feeling.. I've come to realize all the hardships I had to go through to make sure that this was a part of my livelihood and it's been finally paying off. Casey, I don't know how much time you take on comments, but videos like this have given me a new understanding now (esp. with COVID-19 hitting the world) I've watched. RUclips since I was a kid in 2006-2007 at that time RUclips was so pure, and seeing your videos early in that time has definitely let me know that this career path was truly possible.
isnt it ironic that his message was about him not believing in free time but relies on his viewers to have free time to just sit around and watch vlogs...
he's a creater we are watchers and dreamers. he would do this even if people didnt watch but he does it daily because people watch and it pays him to do what he loves. story telling
Casey has this "not give a shit" way about him even when he's just grabbing stuff to make props. (Throws the stuff of the table with his DSLR and just pushes it out of the way). Absolutely love it man!
***** When you know how much abuse a DSLR can actually survive (see DigitalRev TV), tossing them around becomes no big deal. With success, the time vs money equation also shifts in a big way. I like that Casey talked about how success can make you lazy in a previous video. Time = Money^(success)
Actually I don't like this attitude at all. It does not matter how much money you make or how successful you are. Putting the camera aside rather than just pushing it makes sense. I did just watch a peanut butter solution for a broken lens cap. Didn't that take some extra time that could have gone to work/family etc. ? How about buying all this new canon camera that broke? Based on the story he was telling about the financial situation while growing up, this whole behavior seems odd for me. Yes, not giving a damn seems cool, but it is not always the case.
Yigal Barkan I think it's more a matter of perceived zero-F's-giving rather than actual carelessness. He's got a floppy relaxed presentation style. He might bump a DSLR with a box (no big deal + added entertainment value), but you probably won't see him nonchalantly dropkicking one into the ocean because 'dolla dolla bills yo'.
gina ebbasta To be fair, he's such a big RUclips star, he probably has GoPro giving away their cameras to him for product plugs. Only thing I saw was him losing and finding his GoPro at the beach. If an action camera dies, why not destroy it for fun? If it's out of warranty it's too light to be a paperweight.
I'm single and 81 years old and working on arising at 4 am and getting to the gym (Anytime Fitness is a short walk next door!) This video is one of the most powerful and helpful ones I'm found. It makes me realize it doesn't mean how much time on earth I have, I need to strive harder and actually ignore my age. I'm still healthy, can walk long distances, etc. Thank you for all your help in my striving to get fit and get productive!!
It's good to relax now and then. But what you enjoy at the moment might come back and bite you in the ass later on when you realize that time could have been spent better.
yes, its all about balance. I think Casey is a bit too hardcore.. He had difficult past, that done some mental damage to him, he cant relax now, he feels insecure about future when he is not working. That is some kind of post traumatic syndrome. Don't wanna say something bad, but it is as it is.
I respect what you're doing and saying but I don't think this is good universal advice. Sleeping 4 hours consistently will ultimately net you less time on earth. I know you won't have this schedule perpetually. Also free time is very necessary for most. It allows you to step back, think, experience, and enjoy life among other benefits. Work and accomplishment isn't everything for everyone, but I'm glad it is for you.
Ricky Stafford Nobody on their deathbed says they wished they had worked more in life. The most common regret: "I wish had spent more time with my family".
Agree too ! I love to watch movies, take the time to draw, play some video games! And to sleep only 4 hours is ok for some people but not for me, I need my 9 hours but yes that's a total waste of time !
Ricky Stafford Word. Family time should be more important than work too. Hell even fun time should be more important than work, but we all know casey has fun working, so he might as well call all that work time fun time. He might not need more sleep time, but I still say you need more family time.
My thoughts while watching this! Productivity and exercise are both things extremely important to me and to fit into my days but don't want to look back on my life and barely remember ever stepping back to reflect, be grateful, change my perspective, whatever.
I remember seeing this vlog the moment it was uploaded. I added it to my favorites so I can look back on it when I need the motivation. Here I am, dealing with hardships in my life where I need the motivation he once gave me. Thank you Casey for always inspiring me to do better.
As much as I love Casey and his work ethic, anyone else think this is crazy excessive? like he's running away from something mentally. sorry for reading into it but 4 hours of sleep is just brutal 😂
True. Except for maybe Buddhist Monks who would argue that there are limits to what our ambition can do for us. In most cases it just stirs us in place and in effect only increases the suffering of living beings.
there's a difference between restlessness and hard work, you can't tell me all the time he's awake he's being productive. that's just what he wants us to see
Boredom is a result of not knowing what to do with your time. Instead of being bored you could be learning something new, developing a skill, mastering a skill, etc.
Harbir Brar It's called motivation. I'm motivated to organise my time better now. So by spending 7mins watching this video, I save countless hours because I have a legit schedule now. Thanks Casey!
ololololololololo I don't think so, when he broke his leg is when I think everything started to fit into gear for him, it made him excersise and learn to work hard towards something, and ultimately lead to much of his success. So if you are an unmotivated teenager just as many of the viewers are, don't worry about it, but don't sit around on youtube too long, gotta get out there and do something eventually.
I remember watching this when it came out but I definitely needed this. Some people might think this schedule is excessive (it is), but consider that his work is always something that he is passionate about. It's not just something to pay the bills.
Funny that the first quote I came across on RyanHoliday's twitter is "We tend to overwork as a means of self-escape, as a way of trying to justify our existence.” Josef Pieper
+Mujahedin Seriously! I can't function on that little sleep so its way less productive for me to borrow from sleep and then be a non-functional zombie during my waking time.
+Mujahedin google uberman sleep or everyman sleep, i did the everymansleep a few weeks this summer and i had so much time over and was so productive. this will be my new life, during summer i will change my sleeppatern to boost my productivity
+Mujahedin They've found a gene that predisposes some people to needing less sleep. So some people have hit the genetic lottery and can get less than 6 hours of sleep and still feel the same level of energy and alertness the rest of us get needing with 7+ hours a night.
try doing that when you have a very physical job! Im a stone mason, I get up at 5, get home at 7 and in between i lift, carry and stack heavy stone, when I get home im sore, beat up and cold (i live in the uk) Free time to me is important as there is NO way you can bust your balls for extended periods without shutting down, if I shut down I dont make money as im self employed.
+Terroristiananas that is why he is "Casey" and everyone else is not; he is producing and everyone else is consuming; that is another "secret:" businesses produce so that others consume. Casey is all business, all productive.
+Terroristiananas I combine video watching time with eating time, or folding laundry or something like that. Multitask ftw...don't look at the peanut butter on my laptop...
Seriously? From what I'm seeing his videos are generally less than 10min long and he releases about 1/day. That's 10min out of your day. And like everyone else has pointed out, it can easily be combined with other tasks so that it doesn't necessarily demand its own space of time.
This randomly came up in my feed today, but I definitely needed some inspiration this week. Thanks for always making great content, Casey. Even if we see it 7 years later, it still holds meaning and provides motivation to all of your viewers. Cheers!
Revisiting this in 2022 and I gotta say hats off to Casey for building what he has. It’s been cool to watch it unfold since 2013. But 4 hours of sleep isn’t sustainable for most. He’s since probably been afforded the opportunity to change to a less extreme hustle, but I feel like so much of this is just who he is. I can’t emulate this routine. I’ve learned I’m useless without sufficient sleep. To each their own, but I respect the hustle.
If you read what people on their deathbed say they regret the most in life many of them say that they worked too hard or too much and they should have spent that time enjoying themselves aka fun. Just a thought.
i agree sm and I wouldn't work as extreme as casey does but in casey's case i think work is what he enjoys and is his fun so I don't think he'll regret it
Ben Barclay In the first time lapse at 0:18 you can see that only the middle right side is in focus. The rest of the video (left and far right) are blurry in the video due to the tilt shift lens.
Not necessarily a tilt shift lens. There is editing software that emulates this effect without the need to shoot the footage with a special lens first.
@@eliasaxelsson9478 I like that saying. I really have been trying to figure out how positive is adhering to this hustle culture ideal, and I think casey has been too.
@@matanshtepel1230 Dude, I have been doing exactly the same, and even to the point of quitting high school to literally travel the world on my bicycle. Check me out on RUclips, my channel name is WWIG? Wasn’t originally trying to plug myself but had to take the opportunity when you seem so much like a possible subscriber :-)
Probably not. Plenty of people keep a gruelling schedule like that for a few years, a decade perhaps, when they're relatively young & fit. It allows you to progress in your goals, so you can relax a bit later.
What if you wake up at 6:30am go to school. Go to the gym. Come home at 4pm. Eat/shower. Go to work at 5:30pm. Get home at 10:20pm. Eat, do homework. Then go to sleep at 1am. Then end up giving 75% of the money you earned to your family because they're broke since your dad has an injury and can't work. As well as is not being helped by the government. My life is different compared to most people. I work but don't get any further in life.
+Ivan I know it will. However, I 'd like to start something now that will make me money later. I will go to college and get a job in the marketing industry. But an hourly job is one thing. I'd love to have a job on the side that can earn me money 24/7. I see RUclips's like Broscience and I see his business more then his comedy which other focus on. His RUclips is an advertisement for his site. That's something that excites me. I'd love to work for myself it's just the matter of what would I sell or produce.
Thanks Casey.. the beauty of what you do is that you post a video like this in 2015 and 3 years later I watch it for the first time and first thing that comes to my mind is, I’m so happy I watched this right now. I really needed to hear all of that.. Thank you!
hey watching this vid 7 years after i first saw it. This video right here changed my life! I was playing 5+ hours per day video games and doing nothing with life. I tattooed work harder in your honour. Thank you!
DiscoverWithDima I don’t agree with this at all. Living your life trying hard to leave behind some sort of “legacy” instead of enjoying life is an unhealthy mindset in my opinion. As Ferris Bueler once said “life moves quick and if you don’t stop to look around, you might miss it.” 🙂 Also that’s definitely a bad idea to only sleep for 4 hours and is bad for general health.
As the daughter of a pereptual workaholic similar to Casey I can tell you this.... The time my dad DID spend with me, i valued to no end. The couple of hours a day i would get are so memorable, precious, and treasured. At a time, I did resent that he didnt have more time with us....it made me feel like i wasnt AS important as HIS work. But im over that, now that im 25 and "wiser". I do however, value the concept that i have of work ethic because of him, because due to that, im going places and after what i want. Point of story, no matter how many hours you give to Francine and Owen, make them as amazing as you can.
Kind of, now I am beginning to think so many bored people are finding random causes to protest for cause they are too privileged to do anything else with their time
There are very few people who can function properly on 6 hours sleep. A lot of people think that they can but they’re actually not at peak performance and they are at higher risk of long term health complications like dementia. So 4 hours of sleep is just ridiculous and unhealthy, guy needs to chill out
Hi Casey i know this video is old , i just wanted to say thank for explaining and talking through the things you do to stay motivated, my father passed away when i was 13 im now 25 and its sometimes hard to push for the things that would make me happy because he isnt here to share it with, i now realise i have to do it myself, share my accomplishments with myself and believe in myself again. Thank you Casey .
That's because you love what you do. Like filming these videos would be considered "fun time"/"free time" to some. It's kinda impossible to live like you as a student I think
getting this in my recommendations and remember watching it when I was in year 9 when it came out.... I'm in my last year of University now... Miss this old format though really paved the way.
for people watching, 4 hours of sleep hours really isnt enough, you can be productive as fuck and still get your 7-9 hours in, when casey left new york for la i recall him saying that he was a workoholic, and that this really wasnt sustainable
Third time watching this in 3 years. As soon as Casey stops talking and his sunset time lapse starts, I sit back and say to my self wow! what a guy, what a legend 💪🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I aspire to have a similar work ethic like Casey ❤️
Well im a student, so in my free time i don't do shit. I'll have 40-50 years of worklife to contribute to humanity by beeing a teacher. Also, i love casey and his videos, but believing that you "just need to find something you love and make money from it" is a bit arrogant and ignorant. 95% of jobs suck. Thats just a fact. Working 7 to 12 hours a day in a boring ass white collar office job sucks. Working in mines, sweatshops, oilrigs, freighters and garbageservices suck. There are very few jobs in the entire world that are objectively enjoyable or fun, that is shitty, but its still a fact. So most people have to work jobs they don't enjoy and thats not changable, it simply isn't. So it's understandable that when for the absolute majority of people in the world half their waketime is spent with something they loathe, "free time" is a very, very precious rescource.
Rumplelumpa Snickerdoodles just because you're stuck in s dead end Job or whatever your situation is doesn't mean you cannot be productive during the hours of "free time" you have. If half of your wake-time is occupied by doing things you loathe, should try and change that. With the remaining hours of wake time you have, you can fill it with productivity and maybe eventually more and more of your wake time can be enjoyable
Thank you RUclips for putting this back on top of my list of things to watch. I been struggling with my daily work hours and free time. This kinda helped put things into perspective.
Casey always says in his vlogs to work harder and be productive. But we can't cause we are addicted to his vlogs and I've been watching them the whole day
Then watch only 1 to 2 videos every day for inspiration and be productive the rest of your time. ;)
I was about to comment the same thing haha
His vlogs are 9 minutes each. Says enough.
It s ok, I can be like this for a week or so, but the talking in the video is much more positive than other blog, and some great ideas should be heared and remembered, everyone should read a book like chicken soup once a while
Amen! haha
"Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it."
I can just agree you.
Ferris Bueller"s Day off. Your comment is true. It also reminded me of a scene near the end of the movie.
Danielle Merck love that movie
Sad but True....
@Cameron Bruce- Rzzzzzzzzzzzz!
How do you operate on only 4 hours of sleep
Exactly I don't get it either. If I sleep for 4 hours I'm sleepy all day long. Revitalize
I'm sleeping 10 hours and indeed I'm feeling slow and stuff. But it's so super hard to change the rhythm. *****
Revitalize He stated in the vlog before, replacing exercise with sleep works for him. 5 Hours of sleep + 3 hours of exercise = 8 Hours of his "sleep"
Revitalize i think it's quite impossible to keep functioning for a long time on 4 hours of sleep. you should take a rest casey. :)
Revitalize I'm guessing coffee and naps

Also, interesting watching this straight after another vid from 2018 where he talks about his schedule and even then the work hours have dropped considerably, he no longer works late at night and the fitness hours are down to like one a day. He's still operating on like six hours sleep but that's a huge change from four hours.
This is a very 'New York attitude'. Here in Spain; fun, family and sleep are considered central to a good life. Work isn't. Even a work of passion must be balanced. After all, we die at the end.

And? Since when was 'productivity' (i.e. consuming a disproportionate amount of resources vs population) noble?
MAX LAWLESS™
Other than plunder, wealth creation is the only thing that lifts people out of poverty and improves living standards for all.

Time management is the key to everything, I really appreciate how straight forward you are, and the work you put in
I'm motivated to start using your ideology!
Lateeeef, you watch Casey too 😍
Lateef Thynative Me too! I've been feeling convicted lately of not using my time efficiently and with purpose. My dad's always told me that balance in life is important, which is hard, but like you said, time management is key!

Did you pass English class?
Hahaha funny but true!

Casey: “free time is the enemy of progress, you should be working harder”
Wouldn't that be considered 'family time'

@@asdalskdf not really, he is stating his opinion that is all
Bruh he never said this is what everyone is supposed to do lmao
Maybe you should read the countless studies that it is actually beneficial to play video games.
i love the fact that you're always motivated, no matter what you're doing. keep up the great work, casey.
It's not about leaving a legacy. It's not about being remembered. It's about having an effect on now. Making changes, the ripple effect.
Nothing No kidding. I might feel differently hearing that from a doctor or scientist but nobody will give a shit about some stupid RUclips videos about skateboarding in NYC when you are gone.
DarthOwen dude, he makes RUclips videos on painting his sunglasses. Nothing wrong with that, but give me a break.

It’s been almost 5 years since you uploaded this video (and that I watched it) and without me knowing, it totally changed me. I stumbled upon this video today and remembered 15 year old me watching this without knowing it would change me so much. I’m so grateful for the videos you’ve shared and the good influence you’ve been on so many of us
Cool cool story I’m so proud of 15 year old you xxx
Still watching it today! Just as motivating

These older vlogs seem higher quality and more put together than the new ones. I like em both, but I'd rather watch these old ones
Me too!
Its because he focuses on his company more now and its a nice thing!
It's because he looked at these as more of a movie before and now it's more of a vlog. So it's less editing and more raw footage of his life.
I used to sleep 4 hours a day and work most of my time when i was in my 20s until i went into a pure nervous breakdown with a 10 years depression. So time will wait for me ;)
mee too ... wow
Sacred Thyme Sucks huh?
In France they usually force you to sleep for 20 hours a day for 2 or 3 years to cure the depression.
wow ~
agreed! wow.....

@@eliasaxelsson9478 now that's he's back in NYC and semi-retired with kids, I wonder what his attitude is now about working 80% of the day.

I'm watching these vlogs in a completely random order but it would be interesting to see an updated version of this one. The shift in prioritises as you get older.
Watch some recent interviews with him like his episode on Bertcast. He thinks so differently now
You say you're healthy but your day schedule isn't, how can you be healthy if you sleep only 4h ?!
+Vincent Palma i live in japan, and i think the diet of the japanese is more of an impact than sleep does.
+Vincent Palma I'd love to see a source for that.
Sleep is for the weak. I think casey wants success more than he wants sleep.
+Mathilde L He substitutes his sleep with exercise ..
+Gillian Wong The motto "Sleep is for the weak" is bad. Average person needs 7 hours of sleep. But there are some people for whom 4 hours is enough, you should google that topic if you want to know more. I believe CEO of Yahoo is one of them.
Going through your old videos makes me want to cry 😭
4 hours of sleep a night, 3 hours of exercise and ~12-13 hours of work every day... I think I figured out the reason behind the bags under your eyes man. I can admire your philosophy of making the most out of your time but there's also such a thing as taking it too far man.
Yup - it's all about balance.
+Chris Peat Motivation.
Yeah man, I have to have 8 hours of sleep or I just cant function. This is very inspiring to me ! But I will have to figure out my own schedule.
when this video came out, I was a kid wanting to understand Casey's passion and try to understand what this guy was saying.
RUclips since I was a kid in 2006-2007 at that time RUclips was so pure, and seeing your videos early in that time has definitely let me know that this career path was truly possible.
isnt it ironic that his message was about him not believing in free time but relies on his viewers to have free time to just sit around and watch vlogs...
he's a creater we are watchers and dreamers. he would do this even if people didnt watch but he does it daily because people watch and it pays him to do what he loves. story telling
i don't think he puts that much thought into it.. he just makes these videos to share what he's doing.
Elie Dib I see what your saying, but this isn't wasting time, for me this is motivation. Worth it
Peter Ellison yeah definitely
Elie Dib Being inspired is productive.
i didnt see purple ....:(
Casey has this "not give a shit" way about him even when he's just grabbing stuff to make props.
Yigal Barkan
I think it's more a matter of perceived zero-F's-giving rather than actual carelessness. He's got a floppy relaxed presentation style. He might bump a DSLR with a box (no big deal + added entertainment value), but you probably won't see him nonchalantly dropkicking one into the ocean because 'dolla dolla bills yo'.
MotoErgoSum guess you didn't see his instagram picture of the smashed GoPro XD
gina ebbasta
To be fair, he's such a big RUclips star, he probably has GoPro giving away their cameras to him for product plugs.
3 hours of exercise and 4 hours of sleep?? thats not good for your health man

He should change the work time

time enjoyed wasting is not wasted time.
Waste* waist is around your stomach
thanks
Ricky Stafford Well said Ricky
Hey hope life is better these days my love.just leaving u a message to say I’m proud of you and keep going ❤
As much as I love Casey and his work ethic, anyone else think this is crazy excessive? like he's running away from something mentally. sorry for reading into it but 4 hours of sleep is just brutal 😂
fear of death, fear of being still, not being important
When you have a mindset about getting as much in before you die, sleep seems like a waste of that resource as you will get plenty of that later on
No one likes stagnating and not getting better. Casey has compared doing nothing to stagnating and recession.

That is so true
I come back to this video a lot to remind myself how valuable time really is.
Nobody would watching this vlog if time was precious to them.
80-90% of youtube is Time Killer only.
I watch while on the toilet, therefore not wasting time. Most people play Candy Crush, I watch Casey.
***** How dare you give a shit about Casey!? ;)
Harbir Brar It's called motivation.
I'm motivated to organise my time better now. So by spending 7mins watching this video, I save countless hours because I have a legit schedule now.
Thanks Casey!
Bradyn Hopking how old are you? and don't tell me you have to wait all those years to watch a Casey video to feel motivated.
Harbir Brar I doubt Casey is his only source of motivation. He probably gains motivation from all different sources, Casey being one of them.
The fact that you get up so early just to upload these vlogs it shows SO much dedication and how much you actually care. Proud of you.
Were you like this in ur teenage years? Like so focused and motivated?
Good question
he said he did bad in school. Maybe he was better at other things?
Lmfao, hahaha
ololololololololo I don't think so, when he broke his leg is when I think everything started to fit into gear for him, it made him excersise and learn to work hard towards something, and ultimately lead to much of his success. So if you are an unmotivated teenager just as many of the viewers are, don't worry about it, but don't sit around on youtube too long, gotta get out there and do something eventually.
ololololololololo There's PLENTY of videos where he speaks about his life. Go look for them.
Saved this video from 2015 and watching this now really shows how “work harder” and time management changed your life. Your a great inspiration!

I think Casey forgot that most people who watch his vids, are doing it because of "free time" they have. just saying..
I remember watching this when it came out but I definitely needed this. Some people might think this schedule is excessive (it is), but consider that his work is always something that he is passionate about. It's not just something to pay the bills.
Funny that the first quote I came across on RyanHoliday's twitter is "We tend to overwork as a means of self-escape, as a way of trying to justify our existence.” Josef Pieper
nah fuck that i like sleeping too much
XBR4Da Sleeping is not lost time.
I sleep 10 to 13 hours no kidding
+Mujahedin Seriously! I can't function on that little sleep so its way less productive for me to borrow from sleep and then be a non-functional zombie during my waking time.
+Mujahedin google uberman sleep or everyman sleep, i did the everymansleep a few weeks this summer and i had so much time over and was so productive. this will be my new life, during summer i will change my sleeppatern to boost my productivity
+Mujahedin
They've found a gene that predisposes some people to needing less sleep.
This is my all-time favorite vlog. I'd watch it when i feel demotivated and out of track. Love you Casey.
Casey inspired me to keep going regardless of setbacks. Especially in terms of making youtube videos
For some reason, I really enjoy being one of the first on here...there's something about knowing you're the first person to see a work of art.
People do everything to make it in the top comments lol. *****
***** then you don't know what defines something as art
Producing a video is a definitely a form of art.
It sure is. Ernst van Eck
The thing is, if I'm maximizing every waking second, I don't have the time to watch your videos.
Terroristiananas How about while performing some sort of exercise? like running or cycling.
Exactly!!!
Cheers!
youtube knows youve been putting on the lbs and chilling

“I usually sleep 4 hours”
Uhhh
He’s lying
Never will I ever miss any of Casey's video. Too good to miss em!
I love the quote, “only boring people get bored”
Revisiting this in 2022 and I gotta say hats off to Casey for building what he has. It’s been cool to watch it unfold since 2013. But 4 hours of sleep isn’t sustainable for most. He’s since probably been afforded the opportunity to change to a less extreme hustle, but I feel like so much of this is just who he is. I can’t emulate this routine. I’ve learned I’m useless without sufficient sleep. To each their own, but I respect the hustle.
Rewatching old Casey videos is taking up my free time right now.
If you read what people on their deathbed say they regret the most in life many of them say that they worked too hard or too much and they should have spent that time enjoying themselves aka fun. Just a thought.
Agreed...Steve Jobs ( irony in the name ) died a lonely rich workoholic
i aggre with that u said but i think when u got a work that u are rly faill in love with it u wont have regrets at all
+Starr Tile he didn't die alone, he had his family
i agree sm and I wouldn't work as extreme as casey does but in casey's case i think work is what he enjoys and is his fun so I don't think he'll regret it

I think the 3h of exercise have something to do with it, along with healthy eating and a fulfilling and social life.
The exercises he's doing for 3h are probably anaerobic, so that's his 3 hours of taking drugs every day. Google "runner's high"
warmwxrules that's good thing about Casey
I can understand 3 hours exercises, thats probably all together with morning cofe, showering etc.But MY GOD....4 hrs sleep?????
Love when you use your tilt shift lens!!
How did you notice? I can't tell haha
brittneeweiland It totally changes perspective into stop animation feel. A lot of his most effective shots are changes in perspective/time/etc.
Ben Barclay In the first time lapse at 0:18 you can see that only the middle right side is in focus. The rest of the video (left and far right) are blurry in the video due to the tilt shift lens.
Scott Mason yes! I feel like NYC streets were made to be captured with a tilt shift lens. Haha
Not necessarily a tilt shift lens. There is editing software that emulates this effect without the need to shoot the footage with a special lens first.
I wonder if he still stands by this with his current lifestyle...
I’m pretty sure he just surfs in LA now lmao
This was exactly the comment I was looking for! Just proves it; everybody is human.
I am back here watching this again in 2021.. looking for hope.. Thanks Casey!
Working hard is the real YOLO.
I work but don't get any further in life.
it will get better bro, u will get into a good college and a good job! I believe in you!
If you look at it from the bright side, you will have nice references and work experience when you get out from school
You're not as alone as you think mate.
Just see the story of Casey : from he was 17 yo to 23 yo he worked for nothing, in a bad place. So time will be good if you work hard.
Literally just what I needed - First A Level exam on Monday 😐
What's an 'A Level'?
Did your son not do them?
This is a troll account
Same ! Got psychology
But what is it
Thanks Casey.. the beauty of what you do is that you post a video like this in 2015 and 3 years later I watch it for the first time and first thing that comes to my mind is, I’m so happy I watched this right now. I really needed to hear all of that.. Thank you!
hey watching this vid 7 years after i first saw it. This video right here changed my life! I was playing 5+ hours per day video games and doing nothing with life. I tattooed work harder in your honour. Thank you!
One of the best vlogs Casey made. Very effective message.
Crazy people...
Casey's day
7am - 10am - exercise
10am - 7pm - work
7pm - 10pm - family time
10pm - 1am - work
1am - 5am - sleep
6am - 7am - work
Yes but for you work is fun.. So
its not work for him its fun, all you gotta do is find something you love
+Darin Momayezi the thing I love doesnt pay for my apartment
Not yet.
+Darin Momayezi Not when you're young and in high school. What can a high schooler do while making money and having fun?
what he loves
His entire vlog depends on millions of people "not doing."
+Trimere, wrong. We are learning something new from every of his movie.
Trimere true
was gonna comment the same...then saw ur comment
I categorize this as fun, even Casey watches stuff
Haha is anyone else watching this while they’re bored in quarantine
Kind of, now I am beginning to think so many bored people are finding random causes to protest for cause they are too privileged to do anything else with their time
yes but in 2021
Casey's NY content from back in the day made me fall in love with my city all over again.
There are very few people who can function properly on 6 hours sleep. A lot of people think that they can but they’re actually not at peak performance and they are at higher risk of long term health complications like dementia. So 4 hours of sleep is just ridiculous and unhealthy, guy needs to chill out
When do you shave
Gud question 😂
Makin' me feel guilty about watching RUclips n' playing videogames n' shit.. smh
Hope you achieve what you want to achieve man, rooting for you
Thank you for your advice and I'm gonna take you as a role model.
He is so great right !! what a hard working man yet he produce a FINE QUALITY Vlogs:)
That's because you love what you do. Like filming these videos would be considered "fun time"/"free time" to some. It's kinda impossible to live like you as a student I think
In defence of free time, taking short breaks from work does make you more productive
getting this in my recommendations and remember watching it when I was in year 9 when it came out....
*i love casey's funny moments*
AUCHEEZY
Drifttrike101Plus50 HI
AUCheezy dafuq you doing here m7+1?
Sleeping 4 hours is extremly unhealthy, period.
Third time watching this in 3 years. As soon as Casey stops talking and his sunset time lapse starts, I sit back and say to my self wow! what a guy, what a legend 💪🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I aspire to have a similar work ethic like Casey ❤️
other youtubers makes me feel lazy but this guys makes me feel useless if i don't do nothing in my day.
I wouldn’t say that 4 hour sleep will help you to maximise your time efficiency. You’re just making your life shorter in long term run.
I've probably lost 5 years of my life or even more getting four hours of sleep as well. 😂
So it's understandable that when for the absolute majority of people in the world half their waketime is spent with something they loathe, "free time" is a very, very precious rescource.
have you tried it out yet though?
Jehuty tried out what?
Rumplelumpa Snickerdoodles just because you're stuck in s dead end Job or whatever your situation is doesn't mean you cannot be productive during the hours of "free time" you have. If half of your wake-time is occupied by doing things you loathe, should try and change that.
With the remaining hours of wake time you have, you can fill it with productivity and maybe eventually more and more of your wake time can be enjoyable
Thank you RUclips for putting this back on top of my list of things to watch.
I been struggling with my daily work hours and free time.
This kinda helped put things into perspective.
