The Low Altitude Assault Transport (LAAT), also known as the LAAT-series gunship nicknamed "Laaties" by some clones at La-AT by Terran soldiers, was a type of gunship series used by the Grand Army of the Republic during the Clone Wars and later by Terran Armed Forces during the Galactic Civil War. The series was produced by Rothana Heavy Engineering by the Galactic Republic Era and an improved variant made by both Bell Helicopters and Boeing from the USA, BAE systems of UK, and Mil helicopters company of Russia. Unlike the original model used by the Republic, the Terran variant was reverse engineered (from schematics obtained from the Republic) during the late 1990s and early 2000s based on the designs of various helicopter gunships combined such as the Mi-24 Hind used by former USSR/present-day Russia; The AH-1W SuperCobra, and RAH-66 Comanche of USA. They are armed with ballistic weapons like auto cannon and Gatling cannons than blaster cannons, with the latter can be installed or not. The Terran military chose to paint their LAATs in grey similar to the American UH-60 Blackhawk choppers in black to prevent getting easily spotted by enemies ground and areial troops. When compared to the obvious white with red paint job of the Republic variant, the Republic's version despite being a "engineering masterpiece" in the past is a liability without stealth in present and future conflicts. In 2008, the first Terran LAAT's was used in combat in Afghanistan during the War on Terror against Al-Qaeda and the Taliban. Since then, the LAAT was purchased around the world for military use in the US, UK, Europe, Middle East, Russia, South America, etc. - Excerpt from Terran Alliance wiki.
The LAAT gunship super underrated vehicles ever made in the Republic army everytime I play battlefront 2004 and space battles in battlefront 2 I always go for the LAAT gunship
A lot of people overlook it given it's lack of hyperdrive and other limited extra-atmospheric capabilities, but for what it does, it hits all the boxes it was designed to hit.
😑 . . .yeah, I’ve already got a HUGE Redesign in mind. It’ll primarily be built off of the A-10 Lightning 2 aircraft design, but I’d put the engines & wings closer together for a VTOL effect. Furthermore, you’re technically correct in various other aspects; at least this kind of blade-less helicopter can traverse higher altitudes &, in cases of emergency in such altitudes, it’ll release stored up pressurized air to help soften the landing. Regardless of model, all fully loaded LAATs are required to conventionally take-off & land, just like any other aircraft; VTOL is strictly reserved for military deployments & emergency landings. Honestly, if we had such an aircraft for the bin Laden raid, it wouldn’t have crashed; Chinooks as backup would’ve been required though. And, for the variant that would’ve carried M1 Abrams tanks, I wouldn’t, too heavy; M10 Bookers, or other lighter vehicles, would be far more preferable BECAUSE of how hot the landing zone would likely be. Only after landing zones are cleared would I dare send in heavier equipment, especially the earth based AT-TE & such… However, because of this kind of aircraft being built off of the A-10 platform (still being inspired by the LAAT design), aside from the prototype that’ll test out this innovative VTOL aspect, there might be a 3rd variant that’ll completely replace the A-10 & its wing layout would be synonymous to the K-wing, but could easily be called Earth’s X-wing, given that the cockpit is completely different from the K-wing…
I think the main concept is how many things can be squeezed into a flying platform with a nuclear power source. RTG isn't as efficient as a nuclear turbine and requires significant shielding (which is heavy) to work. That being said, a nuclear power source, ion repulsors, energy weapons and a magnetic grip from the same powersource is a great idea. If shielding was the issue, perhaps it wouldn't carry people but instead would shield electronics and be a large "deathstar drone" instead of a manned vehicle.
but like 80% of people will tell you the "lasers" are plasma i my self think they are "stop asking questions and trying to make them real" they are blaster bolts nothing more nothing less Edit: same with light sabers they are not plasma they are not laser they are light sabers some times let fantasy be fantasy i love seeing whats possible in real life its fun but dont try to change what it is in the fantasy world
I wouldn't say making an Earthly LAAT/c is impossible. In fact, I know a very effective way to make rapid vehicle deployment with a helicopter. So, all we have to do is take something like the Skycrane and have it transport a well armored container loaded with max an M1 Abrams tank. The skycrane gets low to the ground, drops the container safely, then flys off away from battle. Tank rolls out of container crew in it and ready for combat. Once battle is done, Abrams rolls back into the container and the helicopter pulls it back to base. Attach some wings with rocket pods and some anti-aircraft countermeasures and boom!
I've always loved the Mi 24 Hind ... check out the video " I love the 80's" parts 2 - 4 for the absolute best representation of this real life superweapon as told by the narrator of the video.
Ok, so. The thing is, we wouldn't make it to the same standards. So the armor would yes be ridiculously strong. But not to the point where can we stand a blaster? If the modern military made their own, it wouldn't be laser. Canins, it would be. Standard normal canons. It would basically function the exact same and more but. The little bit different. And then there's the vehicle transport variant. Yes, it has magnetic grips, but it also functions somewhat as a clamp so. The way it attaches in the shows and some of the movies. There's the main magnetic ones. That attached on the side of the legs of the ATT e and then there's the secondary interferity clamps that go under the belly of the ATTE Yes, it would be a logistic coat nightmare to actually make. But it is much more feasible than most people would actually think. Would it have the same turn on the dime ability probably not. But it does have its practical uses. One such example is if you get it to work to where you can fly real close real load over water. You can fly under radar and so not and you can get fast enough to wear. You can blow up a ship before they can eat them spot or shoot. They can't, since you won so nard they short. Can't find You on radar suddenly. You are completely invisible except for the giant trail of water that you are causing to ripple from the f****** speed you're going at. There's a list of practical uses for it. Yes, it would be a logistical nightmare to make. And I mean nightmare. But could it be made? Yes.
lmao bro Ive literally had the artstation tab for that real life laat open for the past week or two thats crazy I thought I was the only one who really knew about it
The MI24 hind is that exact vehicle while not actually the same it serves the same roll as a gunship transport helicopter able to carry both its weapons and troops (fact check me on the amount it can carry I just watched a fat electrician video and he sumed up the hind in that description of both a gunship and carrier helicopter) if the LAAT did exist I wouldn't want the carrier varriant near the landing zone becuase it would put much needed ground assets like armored vehicles at risk of being destroyed before they land maybe land them further behind the landing zone.
Designed for short travel, and fast load/unload. Primary role is dropship, this is not a long distance transporter. Passengers safety... Well... "Overrated" 😅
@6:35 - the guidance systems could not give a lead? It's a continuous-wave laser. On an atmospheric assault craft. why would a lead need to be computed at all?
Bro I hate to break it to you but space force already built the laat we are literally going to go galactic Republic on our enemies here in America but what else would you expect from us we love our guns

It has already been said the laat was directly inspired by the Soviet MIL MI24 Hind helicopters

2:43 If I am not wrong although called laser its actually plasma that they fire. Tabana gas I think.

It is Sci-Fi and yes Light sabers are actually plasma this was even said by George Lucas.
You say that as if they were already a real thing and as ineffective as Warhammer 40k thinks they are.
Remember nothing in WH40k is real either.
Sorry I'm just used to my fellow 40 k fans making comments like that. No hard feelings
This is the right reasoning

Ми-24: Я для вас какая-то шутка?
The closest realistic counterpart is likely the Russian Mi-24/Mi-35

These new vids with new voice are very superb keep up the good work and I'll be watching you carrer with great interest
The ai voice?
I wish I could ride in one of those

Nice
I wish these Republic gunships were real that will be so cool
They will be....they will be and in our lifetime I choose to believe.
This gonna get him subs fo sho
Buy 2 houses or 1 laat in current day
I enjoyed this content. Very well done.
A tough ship through and through in deed
Did he seriously say the F-15 has thrust vectoring?
I missed when he said that. Unusual example indeed, but F15 MLD do have thrust vectoring.
I don't understand why the LAAT was never designed to have seats...always seemed weird to me
Designed for short travel, and fast load/unload. Primary role is dropship, this is not a long distance transporter.
Passengers safety... Well... "Overrated" 😅
Clone boots are also magnetic to lock into the floor or other low gravity type of situations
@6:35 - the guidance systems could not give a lead? It's a continuous-wave laser. On an atmospheric assault craft. why would a lead need to be computed at all?
That's the point. The guidance system must provide reliable target acquisition so that the laser beam can be fired accurately at enemy equipment.
@@_Nordy_ bro, it's a laser. Literally cannot be easier to aim. If the guidance system can't aim a laser, then it can't aim anything.
Will put together video. However, extremely difficult to listen to due to multiple mispronunciations of words.
Thanks for the reasoned criticism!
Military industrial complex in starwars is where the money really is🎉. Nvm the banks 😂
Starwars uses particle beams and super heated gas/plasma "bolts" not lasers in most weapons no? Isn't that how the definitive technology book says.
Bro I hate to break it to you but space force already built the laat we are literally going to go galactic Republic on our enemies here in America but what else would you expect from us we love our guns
HA-AT High Altitude Armored Transport lol
Heavy Ass Armed to the Teeth. HA-AT 107!
The AI is very confused
The hind is closest to the laat
Video was good till the AI had a stroke reading the script
Thank you! We are working to improve the quality of AI voice!
Looks like the russian hind
idk bro these ai voice overs automatically lose likes for me.
Im sick of these AI generated videos. Just lacks any humanity or feeling.
As interested as I was, in listening to this. I can not get past the unnatural speaking.
No shit .....too much of it's not for everyone.
