It looks amazing and I’m excited to try it myself. I’ve been hesitant to use my Juki to free motion quilt but I feel like after watching you I can try it. Thanks so much!
you are sooo encouraging with your freemotion quilting. I am new too and would love to try this technique. Thank you for sharing and your tips for the first time.
Thanks Miriam , well that was very colourful . Lovely , thanks for today . The hardest part for me of trying yourself is fitting something real big into the sewing machine throat . My machine is a quilting machine , but the beck still isn’t that big really . A shame as going to a long arm quilter can be expensive on top of what you have already spent . I just paid 200 pounds for my big quilt to be done so with the time making it and your other materials if you were making to sell , would need to be a silly price . It has really finished it off nicely I must say .
I totally understand what you mean. My machine I had before the one I use now had a very small throat space. It was tricky to maneuver the quilt through the machine, I think that's why I like meandering quilting patterns so much because you don't have to worry about the entire quilt, just the small space that you are working on at the moment. Like Debby teaches in her class, "you only need to worry about where the next swirl is going." That seems to really help get over the mental struggle of quilting larger quilts with a small domestic.
I just found the quilting pattern for a king size quilt I've been working on for daughter, thanks to you!!! I've been dreading the thought of the quilting.I have not done a lot of free motion quilting so I will need to some practicing. This is something I think a can manage. I also took advantage of the Craftsy promo. Thanks
Oh that's awesome, Suzanne! I hope you have lots of fun doing this quilting design and learning on Craftsy! It's an awesome site to learn all kinds of stuff! I love it!
I love those swirlies!! That's what I'm going to try. Watching all of your movements and directions has really given me the confidence to do this. Thanks for this video!
Wow! You really picked that up quickly. I’m still struggling with spirals (swirls) ever since I got my new Janome two years ago. I think I’m overthinking it and not just concerned with what’s between my hands. I like the idea to not worry about the whole quilt at once but just the area I’m in. Oh and it helps if you thread your machine correctly. I’ve been so frustrated with tension issues and thread breakage that I almost gave up. But I’m with you about wanting to make the entire quilt myself. So I called a Janome technician who walked me through my issues and dang if I haven’t been threading the machine correctly. Duh!
Ugh tension issues are the worst! I'm so glad you were able to get the issue figured out! Now you can do the quilting you want to do! I really believe you can do it! It just takes practice and patience with yourself 💖 💖 💖 Have fun with the process of learning!
Miriam, I love the quilt that you made! The colors are beautiful. I am looking forward to to trying that FMQ design. Also, I signed up for Craftsy. I have had a membership before and found the classes to be incredibly helpful.
Ya know, I tried something many years ago, and it didn't work, so I've never looked into trying another product. I'll look into it! thank you for the suggestion!
@ sorry I forgot to comment after I watched the whole video. Got distracted with other stuff. I hope that your friend gets better soon and that she loves the quilt cos it’s awesome! That quilting is really fun too! Sending big love and hugs xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Awesome I will try that now myself really liked how it looks I need to do more exploring on craftsy just 4 month old puppy doesn’t give me much time for anything that doesn’t include watching her lol
I didn't know that Craftsys was back!! Yeah! Love that quilting motif! I do my own quilting as well. I love ruler work and swirls. Doing a great job!!❤😊
Hey, Miriam! I love this quilt! I’ve just purchased the pattern and downloaded into my quilting section of GoodNotes app, so it’s handy when I get a time/occasion to make it. Suggestion…if possible, it might be a good idea to add a thumbnail photo of your finished quilts to the patterns in your shop. Seeing this version of the pattern is what made me purchase it. I’ve added a screen snap of the quilt to my downloaded pattern. This swirl design is beautiful! I really like how the next swirl in the design can exit the current one at any place along the outer curve. I agree! This would make a great alternative to a stippling pattern to highlight parts of a quilt! Your demo of this quilting design is so helpful. Watching you ‘trace out’ the next swirl with your finger was really helpful, and I will apply this method to this a future FMQ designs. Thank you for the opportunity to join Craftsy at such an amazing price! Clarifying the $1.49 commitment was really helpful in my decision to subscribe. I look forward to watching Debbie Brown’s videos and exploring other videos. Thank you, and stay well! Muskoka ON 🇨🇦
Hi, Pat! First of all, thank you so much for purchasing the pattern! I hope you enjoy it! And yes, I agree I need to update my listings and add photos of the actual quilts! Thank you for the reminder! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video! It's such a fun quilting design. And I'm so glad you're going to give Craftsy a try. You really can't beat that price! I hope you enjoy the membership!💖
WOW!! Miriam that quilt pattern looks beautiful!! I have been a bit absent lately as family life has gotten in the way, hopefully things will start to get back to normal soon! LOL!! Prayers to your friend that she will have an excellent prognosis. Another great video, I love the color pallete for the Cozy Picnic pattern.
Can’t wait to try it!! I have one ready to quilt but have been finishing my sewing along blocks. Going to start today! Ps-I just signed up for Crafts last week ARGH!!!! It won’t let me do the premium with the deal. Oh well. Got to rev up the machine! 🎉
I watched her video today and it just looks so doable! Thanks for sharing this with us. So many projects in progress that I’m trying to wrap up. Got all my packages and stockings done! Company coming Sunday so won’t have any quilting time for at least a week. 😥
Looks fantastic! Really like that design. You make me want to take time to learn more/practice free motion quilting. Just curious, I saw your video on the Juki free motion extension table however hadn't seen it used in any videos I don't think? Was wondering if you had done or will be doing a follow-up on how your experience has been with it? Thanks in advance! :)
Aww yay I’m so glad! I haven’t done a follow up with it yet. I definitely need to, don’t I! 😂🫣 honestly have it sitting in my closet, and I forget it’s there! I need to pull it out and have it sitting on my table to remind me to use it!
I wish I hadn’t started using the edge to edge stencil with the pound pad before seeing this. Just going for it organically would have been faster and I probably would have liked my quilting better. Lesson learned, trust myself.
I think I wouldn't trace the same line, I'd just echo it while swirling out, since that was one I did before. The last free motion pattern I did was a leafy meander and I'm hoping I can try something else, because my brain thinks that's the only way to do it, lol.
Oh yeah, that's a great idea! I totally know what you mean about your brain just wanting to stick to one quilting design! haha! I was like that with my boxy meander design I did ALOT a few years ago! haha! 💖
Good job for a beginner! My Juki only likes Glide thread, so you’re lucky to be able to use cotton thread! Angela Walters has fantastic free videos on RUclips for fmq, for some more ideas. I think you’re a natural!
Well when you free motion quilt, you're in charge of the stitch length, so it doesn't matter what length you set on your machine if you can lower your feed dogs. I shoot for a length of about "2" when doing FMQ.

You can do it, Christine! 👏🏻💖
I love the colors on your friend's quilt. Ok, now I'm thinking I might try this on the quilt I'm working on. Thanks Miriam, another timely video.😊
So glad you liked the video, Ann!
Beautiful quilt
Thank you!
Oh, how pretty! Your friend is a lucky lady.
💖💖💖
It's a whole lot faster than hand quilting! Love everything about this quilting pattern! Thanks for showing us, Meweum.❤❤❤

Hey Mirium, beautiful quilt & love the FM Design!

This quit is going to look amazing! I like using colored thread. Your friend will love it and feel your hugs while on her journey to recovery.💖
Thank you so much 💖💖💖

I have the walking foot that came with my Juki TL 2010Q machine.
