Thanks I am not a German .I worked building high tension cables over the Rhine River in 1971 hard wholesome work .many of them veterans of ww2. They had all been wounded some had been prisoners in Russia. They were invariably jolly. That is the definition of true courage.

Berlin was in 1945 destroyed like any European city. Like that was dropped 4 atomic bombs. Germans soldiers were disarmed, after 8th of May, 1945, and they were in Allies and soviet concentration camps, between 2 to 20 years. They were not get a status of POW by Geneva convention. That was abolished from winners of WW2. It was reason why! Because, plan of the winners was punished Germans so hard that must be no post-war resistance. Also, Germany was raped, robbed and abused from winners of WW2. Especially, between 1945 to 1949, when was no German state, government, parliament, finance independence, army, navy or air forces. All that was abolished. First years were so hard that all rebuilding of Germany was fallen on the strongest German women. Because, manpower was in Siberia ( 3 millions ) or in allies concentrations camps ( 4 millions ), until 1948. In these days, Berlin got just less than 2 millions of civilians ( before 1939, Berlin got 4 millions of citizens ). Berlin full uprising to new 4 millions citizens would come after year 2000 or on the beginning of this century.
