Currently I use a 24" XPPen Artist24 Pro tablet and have no complaints (it was $1000 when I got it though). I've only had it for a couple years, before that I had a 20" Huion KAMVAS 20 tablet. These two have actual displays on them so it's like drawing on a monitor.
When I got into digital art I spent the first five-ish years with cheaper tablets that didn't have a display, partially because I was in early high school with only birthday money to my name but also because I didn't even know if I'd enjoy it. I upgraded a total of three times, each time realizing that I wanted to take art more seriously as a hobby :)
