The biggest quirk of being financially fit is that in most cases it doesn't feel like or look like anything, and most peope expect it to and want it to. A healthy checking and savings balance, being 10 years ahead of the curve on retirement savings, having "f you" money, having little or no debt, having the things you need, the ability to say yes to that spontaneous vacation or concert, nothing of that "looks" like anything, though it feels comforting and is less stressful for sure. But it can be a subtle thing to recognize when you're doing quite well because there's no material item to measure it by. This is what the FIRE movement refers to as "the boring middle". It doesnt look special but nothing could be farther from the truth.
I suck at saving outside my retirement accounts so I made a big commitment to invest 16 percent into my retirement account! (My job offers a normal 403b and a roth so I do 8 in both)
Success depends on the actions or steps you take to achieve it. Building wealth involves developing good habits like regularly putting money away in intervals for solid investments. Agreed, financial advisors play a key role in portfolio allocation and i've been using one since late 2019 just before covid outbreak. So far, I'm barely 25% short of $1m ballpark goal after subsequent investments.

Roughly $120K in my portfolio are in tech/TSLA stocks, can I get an advice on any other stocks that I can acquire to diversify my reserve across multiple markets while creating a comprehensive portfolio allocation that balances my concerns of risk aversion and returns that meet yearly inflation.
I’d be retiring or working less in 5 years, and considering this financial recession, I’m curious to know best how people split their pay, how much of it goes into savings, spendings or investments, I earn around $250K per year but nothing to show for it yet.
@annastourguide this is huge...would love to grow my reserve regardless of the economy situation, my 401k has lost everything accrued since early 2019, at this point, i'm in dire need of professional guide, if you dont mind giving any pointer please
I needed this, I had a £1000 car repair bill 4 months ago (paid 250 for 4 months) and had a 450 bill a few days ago which I paid and just didn't save this month. I was getting really down on myself but need to realise most people would've had to get a loan for it etc
Investing provides a means of allocating money for the purpose of generating income or profit in the future. By investing, individuals can set aside funds while still engaging in their day-to-day activities, allowing their money to work for them and reap the rewards of their labor in the future. It is important to invest wisely, making informed decisions and carefully considering the risks and potential returns associated with each investment opportunity.

Being able to afford housing "comfortably" made me laugh. I could move somewhere where that would be true, but I would be far away from friends and family, and without the support that offers. No, I'm not doing well financially, but I'll survive. Social support right now is much higher on the list. Money matters, but it's not everything.
@@tonycrabtree3416 It's about priorities. Right now, my social network matters more than having a large amount of money to invest. It's not a hard choice for me. My money is in my house, which means I can't touch it, but that's fine for me.
I'm very certain I didn't ask for social support. I alluded to the fact that this is something quite important to most people in their lives, including my own. Not everything is about money. It's finding a balance between finances and access to the things that actually make you happy and fulfilled. Lots of Chris' perspectives and advice are very good, but as with all advice, one does need to consider which bits are relevant to one's own practical life.
