    CEO of eBay here…. Thanks for justifying my decision to raise fees. I plan on using these funds to expand my real estate portfolio and car collection. Thank you

    13:00 there’s also a “feature” now where you can accept an offer but the item stays listed until the buyer pays for it…perhaps that’s what this gentleman was referring to?

    • @trentknight1671
      @trentknight1671 19 минут назад

      Came here to say the same thing! I remember reading eBay implemented this. When an offer is accepted the item stays listed. In the event that buyer never pays you don’t lose any traction from other potential buyer by keeping the item listed

    • @justinresells
      @justinresells  6 часов назад +10

      I don't plan on updating anything as they will by default set everything to "good."
      Any clothing I sell used going forward will get "good" and I will likely never use "excellent" as I don't want someone's expectations to be too high for a used piece of clothing. I prefer to underpromise and overdeliver when it comes to used clothing.

    I also wanted to comment about accepting an offer and not getting paid. If that happens to me I just write a little message stating "Your item is ready for shipment, knowing life is crazy it may have slipped your mind, as soon as payment is received it'll be on its way" and that always works, not to my recollection have I ever had someone not go through with it, maybe I just got lucky!

    I come here for the positive outlook!!! An article came up on my news feed about ebay making the buyer pay shipping and payouts two days after delivery. In a panic, I came straight to RUclips. You didn't have a video on it. The only two I could find were with gentlemen from the UK. I went back to the article and sure enough it was only for the UK. 🙄

    To the poster asking about retail arbitrage another thing you could do is expand your knowledge on what to thrift.
    What I mean is if you only go to thrift stores to source hard goods start learning about soft goods.
    If you only buy men’s clothes learn about women’s clothes or shoes
    Figure out how to maximize your time and what you can source from each thrift store is another way to finding more deals for store you’re already at.

    eBay is off the reservation. Why do they charge sales tax on shipping charges? If I go to the Post Office and pay shipping they don’t charge taxes on the charge, do they? Every business has related task. One thing eBay doesn’t have is INVENTORY, they have no risk. What happens to eBay if taxes go up for example, answer nothing. Buyers and sellers deal with it.

    • @datcookiedo_9838
      @datcookiedo_9838 7 часов назад +3

      Yeah it's very stressful. But some people take advantage of it before they had fees on shipping selling items for 5$ with 35$ shipping when it's a 30$ item. Just as an example. I wish they could just wait to take fees out until after we buy a shipping label

    • @kibble-net

      People used to sell items for $0.01 and charge large amounts for shipping to avoid final value fees. I don't think it's fair to charge FVF on shipping and sales tax, but at the end of the day I'm glad Ebay takes care of most of the accounting for me so it's worth it.

Now I need to add garage sales as well. My knowledge is more in sneakers, basketball mostly, but I've gotten some jackets and other few odd things and it works. Thriftinng allows me to spend less sourcing while still getting the same or even higher return in some cases. God bless. I also like you work full time and have a RUclips channel as well. If you just want the fun, you can do a small storage unit with no furniture. You just have to find the right unit. I've found a few with a company locally that doesn't have a clean-out deposit. Which means if I can't move a piece of furniture that was hiding because of poor images, I can just leave it. Now, because I like working with them I told them every time I had no choice but to leave an item. The last one was a huge CRT TV and we found a guy that would come throw it in the trash because I knew the manager couldn't move it either.
    Now in the winter with fewer sourcing opps is a good time, but you are in more competition for the same reason.
    In your area, on storage treasures, I saw 3 that work be easy 1 in 3 days and 2 in nine. And that was a quick first page clance.

    You are the second reseller today who said " I haven't been getting that many sales because im not listing as much" but has hundreds or thousands of listings that are active. Does that not mean anything on eBay. I don't get it, all that money and time into listing you still have to go buy more stuff and just add onto the already hundreds of listings. What about the stores that just sell replenishable listings, if the items are in demand wouldn't that be enough. It makes sense if your inventory is low stock because you sold out but why do resellers keep sinking more money out when they already have a warehouse or room of accumulated unsold inventory, i mean it can't accumulate if it's selling right. This business model is so wild to me.

    When you copy another person's listing (like we all do) should I verify shipping information to increase likelihood of international sales? I saw an item weighed "30 lbs" but I had free shipping. Weight didn't matter to me because its "free" but international sale won't pay to ship an item that weighs a wrong weight/measurements? What do you think? I'm sure the answer is right in front of my face.

So I just made sure to "end" and "sell similar" on 10-20 already listed items each day. That gave me a cpl of sales. But now that I've been able to resume listing new items, I'm getting more sales. Do you know the reasoning as to why eBay charges 15% on books which is their highest rate category? Books seems like they would be simple on their end so I can’t figure why the higher rate. Any thoughts on that? I sold a book collection for 500 last year and that stung a bit on the fees. Ugh. Would be nice if maybe for higher value books they could charge a lower percentage. It’s not like it cost them more to process the higher value books. Thoughts?

    • @justinresells
      @justinresells  5 часов назад +8

      eBay is a business, not a charity-they provide a platform with access to millions of buyers, and they charge for that service. Exploitation would mean taking advantage of people without their consent or alternatives. We always have a choice: adapt to the changes, find ways to offset costs, or sell elsewhere. That doesn’t mean fee hikes are good, but calling it exploitation ignores the fact that we’re voluntarily using their platform, not being forced to do anything against our will.

    • @crystalcole888
      @crystalcole888 4 часа назад

      @justinresells eBay using their size, and rarity to bully their customers is exploitation. There are not 10 other platforms equal to eBay that their customers can move to if they become overly greedy. And they know this. They don't have a monopoly, but they are not far from it. There are few viable alternatives and you know that as well as I do.
      And the more welcoming you are of corporate greed, the more they will heap on you. And the rest of us. If you don't show a little backbone, you'll be making 10% profit, and saying thank you for the privilege. And eBay would do that just because they can.
