I feel Isane's Shikai probably can put someone in a healing state through hibernation or suspended animation (in an ice block or something). That may explain why we haven't seen it used yet, the right situation hasn't come up. As for the combat side, maybe she can create an ice storm or blinding snow.
I hope Isane's power is the power to freeze with ice and then transfer reiatsu. She could freeze her allies to stop them from losing reiatsu. Maybe then she could freeze opponents and transfer their reiatsu over to herself or her allies to heal them. Maybe her bankai makes this a field effect and anyone in range slowly feels the cold literally sapping their energy away from them. Maybe she'll be super useful in the Hell arc this way.
Isane's zanpakuto is probably based off of native glacier water it's believed to have healing properties. Not only that it's release command is run similar to how rivers run in the mountains. With that being said she probably is able to create ice and when the ice melts it becomes drinking water that heals herself and her allies. Her hair style is reminiscent of native decent as well.

Really cool that Kubo has been answering questions relating to Zanpakuto. Yuyu's Shikai seems very unique, which is exciting. Also, Masaki and Katagiri being friends is both wholesome and sad, given how things ended up.

I imagine that Itegumo can be used like how ice is used in medicine: reducing pain and swelling to make kaido easier to work. It could also arrest foreign reiatsu to make treatment easier. And its bankai could put people in suspended animation like a huge cryogenic chamber.
my guess as to why itegumo is never used to heal in the source material would be that only her bankai can heal, but her shikai can't (kinda the opposite of minazuki i guess) and she only achieved bankai after the tybw.
Yeah I thought of stasis too, preventing wounds to worsen, bleeding to continue, etc while slowing/stopping her enemies. Meaning also that it couldn’t be used to kill, but restrain, as the wound inflicted by her Shikai would be in stasis too. Her bankai could turn that on herself, preventing her from dying of her wounds while it’s active, but not slowing her down. Maybe like a beautiful snowfall covering the surrounding peacefully, like in the final fight of Kill Bill 1. In this way it would allow her to retain her fleeting confidence, and in honor of her former-captain, paint the immaculate snow in red splashes…
I think her ability is a summon. Imagine she could summon some snow creature and it can't be killed becouse it keeps regenerating itself. This is the only way i can see her being both a healer and a fighter, while also being different from Toshiro and Rukia.
@@mosqapuccino So did I. The real question was how she would use it offensively i.e. the only time we see it where she was sent to attack Ichigo. I had thought it would take the form of a mist of some kind to "freeze" him in place. It's technically not meant to be used to fight directly as someone else would've had to come in and deliver a killing blow while she's restraining them.
@supersonicmario56 since Isane uses kaido to heal physical wounds, perhaps what Itegumo can do is freeze reiatsu, slowing down an opponent's ability to fight.
At least we know why Isane was promoted to captain, not for her combative ability but because of her healing ability, which is just as important especially for any big fights
The thing I want most from Bleach is honestly just a complete zanpakuto encyclopedia. Every single zanpakuto in the series, names, release commands, appearance, abilities, maybe even unrevealed shikai and bankai (or at least rough ideas). Like what could the bankai be for that one guy who's zanpakuto turned into tiny flying blades that Ishida obliterated.
he was only a seated officer and Uryu left him unable to use any his powers like Byakuya left Ichigo with the Rukia's borrowed power back in the substitute shingami arc.
@@TheZajicekfarberIn that case a cool idea i have for that is that there's twice as many blades but they're much larger and faster to where that guy can ride on them while flying around at high speed. It helps separate it from Senbonzakura and Haineko too by focusing on being large rather than particle sized.
I like Rindo more. He can't speak since he's deaf, therefore he can't say his Zanpakuto so he writes it on his blade with his finger 🔥. Wonder if he can summon other animals besides hawks, likely can.
I'm starting to think that Aizen told the espada that they were ranked by lethality in order to drive them to desire to "rise" in the ranks by fighting for the top spots, preventing them from growing complacent, and that he kept the aspects of death secret from them.
@@dandereninja4750 the implication is actually huge if you speculate a bit. you see since itegumo has healing properties, but isane never uses it to heal in the source material, we can infer that only her bankai can actually heal and she wasn't able to use bankai until after the tybw.
I imagine Isane's abilities being that she's able to summon snow falling from the sky (or come out of her blade) and that being covered by it slowly puts you to sleep (yes you shouldn't sleep in the snow) but instead of... well dying, the snow has healing properties. A Bankai version of this could be some sort of a blizzard storm, same idea behind the snow / sleep abilities but it won't heal, just put you into an eternal slumber / die of sheer cold.
Throwing a random hypothesis: maybe the rule about carrying the Zanpakuto is more lax with Kyoraku as captain, just like he's more lax with the uniforms.
I’m picturing Itegumo working like this. Isane activates it and a mass of fluffy snow cascades over whatever she chooses. Whenever this snow comes into contact with an injured ally, it restores their Reatsu and heals minor injuries. I also think it’d be cool if she could tune it to where the snow could either heal or hurt, so it could be used in battle. As for her Bankai (which she should have since she’s a captain now). Maybe it creates a massive blizzard that acts as a shield and even a cloak that prevents enemies from detecting anyone inside it. She could maybe allow allies to enter and leave at will but any enemy that tries to enter it gets swept up in the intense wind and cold. She would basically become a massive snowy medical tent where she could heal anyone inside while her Bankai keeps enemies at bay.
I feel like Isane’s zanpakuto has to be some sort of offensive type that heals *herself* The only time we see her use it is in combat with Ichigo, but we do see her plenty of times throughout the series healing others without her zanpakuto’s shikai active Isane trained under Unohana for a reason. She KNEW who Unohana truly was…
It's cool that the 3 ice-types we see are ice (toshiro), Rukia (cold), and Isane (snow). I agree with how the snow could heal with her shikai. Her bankai I can see reflecting her more aggressive side and the snow could "store" the wounds it healed, then inflict them onto others. Like the snow melting on an enemy opens wounds across their body. That, or she's doubled down on healing and her bankai is merely a winter wonderland, like a mobile emergency hospital. Yuyu's is really cool, but I do wonder how her nails "work" as a zanpakuto. It's 10 different nails right? So does her blade split into 10 separate pieces? Is there any other zanpakuto like that? I think Kubo's answer regarding espada rankings is the only one that could be possible at this point, given everything else we know.
@@jembozaba4864 True, but her zanpakuto only becomes a single finger cover. connected to an armband. Yuyu's 10 fingernails are seemingly completely disconnected and take on a different form from any type of blade, on top of lacking a hilt. I think hers' is totally unique as far as zanpakuto go.
She's also one of the tallest if not the tallest female shinigami among the captains. She's almost too perfect looking, imagine if she had longer hair😭❤

There’s literally so much that can be further revealed and explained such as the beast realm, the og gotei 13 assuming that they’ve all been sent to hell, isshin’s bankai, the possibility other espada and arrancars being in hell (if they sinned in their human life) and a possible start of ichigo’s sisters further developing their powers

My theory on yuyu's shikai is that she has an animal spirit associated with each fingernail, if you look a the base of her fingernails you can decypher various types of fangs and even a cat like paw.
You're probably on the money regarding Healing being an offshoot of Itegumo's powers. Keep in mind, Isane was the vice captain under Unohana Retsu, whose weapon very much had healing powers as an offshoot of its truly deadly nature. Isane feels like a mirror of her captain--where Retsu was a killer who quenched her bloodthirsty nature to reinvent herself as a kind healer, Isane comes off as a kind healer who, when pushed to the edge, could be just as fearsome as her old captain. I like to believe that both of them had zanpakuto capable of healing and hurting in equal measures. Fascinatingly, this is also the case for Hanataro, too, whose shikai can heal wounds but is, in truth, storing that trauma so that it can be unleashed on an enemy.
I think one of the her possibly bankai abilities is to create a snowfall atmosphere which every touch of snowflake can heal the wound and possibly replenish her allies stamina while able freeze or exchange the allies' wound to her enemies, this could be a good combo with either Toshiro or Rukia if they all go to hell as a team In additional I think Itegumo give her ability to create and freely move the cloud when her enemy can break out of an ice
7:50 when i heard it was only other squads, i took it as her squad potentially being afraid of her, especially because she has authority over them and often has her shikai active. Maybe Lisa doesn’t mind but everyone else knows to be quiet. lol

I imagine Isane Kotetsu stabilizes patients by putting them on ice. This can save patients on death's door by allowing them to be transported to better facilities and gives more time to heal them.
Everyday I wake up hoping we get some news about that arc. So anytime he answers a question regarding anything about the one shot i just know interesting theories/analysis and videos will come out. Let’s hope for more 😅
If Isane's Zanpakutō is an Ice and Snow Healing type Zanpakutō I'm gonna bet it does something like "freezing" a wound so that it can't get worse while enhancing the affects of healing kido. That would explain why we've never seen her use it to heal because it was already active in the scenes with her healing people.
13:53 Itegumo might be leaning on offensive since she activated it on soul society arc before to attack ichigo... or maybe it doesn't have just healing properties but also enhancing abilities? like strength or healing, which might explain why isane was using her own healing since it got boosted by her shikai 🤔

Honestly I imagined Isane's Zanpakuto to be similar to Junichiro Tanizaki's ability in Bungou Stray Dogs, a snow based illusion style zanpakuto that would primarily be used for support but not directly healing
The answer about the espada promotion is once again proof of what I've been saying: The espada rankings are based on lethality and spiritual power ,NOT the aspects of death. If not, kubo wouldn't have made Starrk being number 1 a big deal and Shunsui wouldn't have to have been worried about fighting number 1. The aspects are a part of it, however, they aren't as essential to the espada rankings.
Along with Nnoitora previously being number 8 and Barragan being upset about number 2. If they were based on aspects of death then Barragan wouldn't have been upset and Nnoitora would've never been number 8 because he doesn't represent madness as much as Szaelapporo does who was an Espada at the time.
Trying to think what Hisanes zanpakto might do. - can replace damaged parts with ice replicas that are fully functional as long as her zanpakto Is active - her zanpakto has general ice abilities but has a unique ability where those killed by her zanpakto are frozen and stored (had this idea of them being stored in a warehouse she can summon on meat hooks adding a sort of creep factor), she can summon when she needs for organ replacements, etc - mentioned rum being like running water, cold ice water is used to bring down fevers & high temps so perhaps something do with that. E.g when active the area around Isane and enemies drops and continues to drop however the more active they are the higher their temperatures get (like a fever) making it a sort of balancing game, temperatures too high die of fever, temp too low die of cold, non idea what the healing aspect of it would be - her zanpakto converts her and her allies spiritual pressure into ice armour, higher the pressure stronger the armour, also when the armour is damaged it heals/revitalises the wearer

Maybe Isanes Shikai only heals herself while using it, so keeps her healthy while on the battlefield, so she can focus on healing others using kido or focus on fighting without having to worry about injuries to herself
Honestly I could see Isane's zanpakuto being a bit of a bait and switch where its 'healing properties' only apply to herself, where it gradually heals her wounds while active as a side effect of whatever ice/snow stuff it does.
@@ironclad-m3q It does and it doesn't. It would suggest an interesting character conflict for her, where she's stuck in Unohana's shadow, even her zanpakuto only being able to do half the stuff that Unohana's did.
@@Amehtta One thing introduced about Isane is her dependency on Unohana. I won't be surprised if she doesn't mind staying under her mother figure's shadow forever. And it's not like Minazuki is a broken Kaido type to surpass or something. Unohana used it for first aid at best.
Maybe Isane's Shikai is combat-related healing, that could be a reason that she didn't use it for critical situations instead of the Kidō. Instead of healing others, could it be self-healing, similar to Unohana that learned Healing Kidō just to use in combat as we see in Zaraki's fight, but as an innate power of her Shikai, at the same time that makes a parallel with Unohana, would be a really cool detail
I don't have an exact idea of how Itegumo would work but for one of its abilities I've always imagined it manipulating the weather to make it snow and the snowflakes that fall would heal allies wounds and replenish stamina while worsening opponents and making them hurt more
I hope the zanpato spirt is a hairy man who into fashion and that's why she can use her shiki for a long time. I enjoyed that filler when we got to see the spirt forms of like everyone swords.
Hey Tommo, my theory on Isane's shikai and potentially bankai is that it uses snow and ice to freeze and heal at the same time. This would also mean using such an ability renders whomever is being healed by it a sitting duck, which is why I believe she prefers to use kido based abilities for direct healing instead. The shape of her shikai release is based on entrapment, disarmament and parry, allowing her opponents blade to get caught and slow or freeze them at the same time to open them up for kido based attacks.
The introduction of new Vice Captains and their Shikai abilities in this chapter is a game-changer for the narrative. Isan Ketu’s Shikai, Eumo, with its three-pronged blade design, brings a fresh visual and tactical dynamic to the story. It’s exciting to see characters like Chojo Sasakibe and Morio Omida stepping into the spotlight, marking their growth and signaling a pivotal shift in the ongoing conflicts. It's funny that Ichigo is the biggest/only example of it but I feel like holding Shikai can't cost too much energy even Ichigos wearable Bankai wasn't hard to maintain
Itegumo's release shape is to be noted. It fans out either side. The shape doesn't lend itself to stabbing or slicing nicely. With it being a snow type, I'm thinking when waving it around flurry of snow is released between the blades. The snow comes into contact with reishi and it absorbs it, redistributing it elsewhere or directly to her. So it can be used offensively but it doesn't do targeted healing, just has some kind of mending reiatsu/healing property.
I think the aspects for 1 and 2 switched places when Starrk came, before Baraggan was #1 and his aspect of death was "time" while #2 was "loneliness" that being Picaro because of their story of a lonely hollow that created this hive mind type being that is Picaro. When Starrk came he replaced Picaro as "loneliness" and since he was stronger then Baraggan he took #1 spot.
What if the reason Isane doesn’t often use her Zanpakuto for its healing properties is because it only heals in a massive area, which could be a flaw if enemies are in the area even if they aren’t aware of them. Like creating snowfall over an area that heals all people within range that get touched by the snow for as long as her Reiatsu holds out. Also Tommo I am so Jealous of your grimmjow pop figure!!
They were constantly at risk so i think that Isane decided to use kaido instead of shikai beacuse it would either be waste of streanght that she may need in case of being attacked alone or it would simply be hard to hide or move in case of running away. I always saw Isane as very tactical type of person, so she is trying to use only powers required even if it takes longer instead of going all out
Her focus is probably stasis, freezing things harmlessly. Basically used as a way to remove her opponents for capture, or patients for treatment, putting them into a healing hybernation. Its like Kirinji's healing onsen, but cold style reiatau is probably slower to act and modulate, making it less likely for her to kill by overhealing.
Maybe it slows/chills/freezes on contact. As a healing property it's more like how you'd ice burns, keep severed limbs/transplant organs cold so they don't expire, or cool fevers so it's not terribly useful as a direct healing method, but is more a useful tool for supporting her healing abilities in certain circumstances. And in an offensive sense heat is just kinetic energy so she can also rob enemies of their motion/heat. Hence "Run" being the release command.
"Ichigo Awakens" had an interesting concept for Isane's zanpakuto, that anything that passes between her blades becomes numb, useful for emergency healing but also combat as like an inverse of Mayuri's shikai, you can still move but you can't feel where she hit, you don’t know how bad the damage is, especially if she lands multiple strikes or there are more enemies. Of course, much like canon Isane slipped into the background and nothing was done with her character or sword.
Healing snow sounds pretty cool. Like I could imagine someone is really badly injured and she packs their wound with the snow to help prevent bleeding and to heal it. Perhaps her bankai lets her create snowfall in a big AOE area, with the snow that falls from the sky healing allies and injuring enemies / purifying hollows. Then maybe she can manipulate the snow drifts on the ground to become barriers or buildings to protect the injured, or to trap and contain enemies. Maybe she's even inspired by her former captain and the snow can steal vitality from enemies to give to allies. An ability like that which can beat enemies, while not requiring aggression from the user would be kind of perfect for a true healer type.
Unohana was really fond of Isane, i always thought given her character and the people she cares about, i believe that similarly to how Kenpachi was some sort of Apprentice to her, Isane also has this quality for her, and saw that both needed her gone to Growth, i think her zanpakuto might just work with blood directly and tus she is quite apprehensive to use it
If I had to guess why Luppi was promoted to number 6 instead of number 9 (and pushing the others up) was just Aizen fucking with Grimmjow because Aizen is the type to fuck around with people just because its funny to him.

the only thing I can associate putting ice and healing together is...cryogeny? maybe Isane´s zanpakutou ability have something about being able to freeze, keeping the target alive and healing them if she wants to (and if she doesn´t, it just freeze the target as a way to immobilize them to easily attack with her zanpakutou´s blades
On Yuyu's nails towards the base of each finger shows fangs, but on her thumbnails are bear paws. Her attacks probably revolve around how she orients her hands while fighting (ie if she were to throw a punch it would be in the form of a bear paw swipe).
With regards to Yuyu's constant shikai state, its very similar to Ichigo's constant shikai state. Maybe constant shikai state consumes reiatsu to some degree up to exhaustive, but can become negligible thru some reiatsu control, high-affinity with the zanpakuto or if one have a large pool of reiatsu.
I think that it would be cool if Itegumo was like Arata Nitta’s ability from JJK. The ice freezes the wound, not letting it become any worse, but not really healing it. She could use to to stop severe wounds from worsening, while using Kaido to heal the person further
It could be that Isane’s shikai can only heal herself. That could explain why she never draws it when she’s healing others, but did draw it when she was going to fight Ichigo.
about isane i imagine she can freeze wounds for treatment preventing loss of blood/life force and preserve those near death in a kind of suspended animation may be even cold weld body parts together. though i imagine its a new ability as that would have been very useful in the last war.
I bet Yuyu's shikai is probably a different interpretation and canon implementation of the concept of Kuruyashiki's Gagakukairo. That's at least the next similar power I think of along with Sajin's Tenken with a Shikai seemingly spawning an apparition and devouring what it hits. 10:08 Isane is already onw of my favorite characters in Bleach, but this sketch of her is so cute.
If I had to guess at Ikegumo's power, my first thought goes to how the trope in anime for when someone is sick is putting a cold cloth on their forehead. I think Ikegumo's power is probably around the idea of cooling things off, allowing Isane to control the temperature of whatever Ikegumo touches. In Shikai, it uses the cold to cool off fevers and sterilize people and objects of things like bacteria, probably even purifying things like Hollow Reiastu which will allow wounds to heal much faster, but, in Bankai, I think it's essentially similar to Rukia's power with Sode no Shirayuki, using cold to slow and still the activity of particles and essentially "kill" them, but, instead of Rukia where she can only really do herself, Isane's occurs in a much, much wider area, covering an entire area in snow where, whatever the snow touches, is stilled, particularly their Reiastu, and thus rendering them functionally inert, unable to grow or change, essentially freezing them in time and also stopping them from being able to use any Reiastu-based abilities like their Zanpakuto or things like Kido, perhaps even eventually lulling them into eternal, frozen sleep if they're exposed to it long enough.
It'd be cool if Itegumo could make it snow around a given area and heal a large number of shinigami all at once. It might not be a very powerful healing ability, which is why she used the Kaidō on the severely injured characters as you mentioned -- but it can heal a wide number of injured shinigami in an area. Maybe it's also like Shinji's bankai -- in that, she can't specify who to heal, which is why she doesn't use it during big fights. Maybe?
About the previous Espada generations, I wonder if we need to assume that there were always 10 Espada or instead at some point there were less, either because the number was officially lower (i.e., only 5 Espada positions were available to be assigned at some point) or because Aizen left some positions as vacant waiting for the right fit. On this point, for instance, we have Aizen in the Arrancar arc commenting on the Espada not being complete yet (chapter 213)
I could see Itegumo coating wounds in ice, numbing the pain and eventually closing wounds, but the wound closure is slow. In bankai maybe it's capable of even replacing lost limbs with ones made of ice, allowing the shinigami to either keep fighting or escape to save their lives and seek further treatment. Hence they can keep 'running'.
"Healing properties" - temperature - numbing pains like an ice pack to prolongue endurance while also being able to apply cold fast enough to burn with the change of heat. Maybe using snowfall or flakes as a method of application. I dunno, sounds cool to me... I'm not apologizing for the pun. It was an accident, it stands.
The aspects of death aren't tied intrinsically to the Espada rankings, it's just that each Espada has to represent a different aspect of death, so when Grimmjow was demoted only another Arrancar with the same aspect of death could replace him as the others were all accounted for already. If, let's say Aizen wanted to promote 3 new Espada following the deaths of Aaroniero, Szayelaporro and Zommari, then yes he would need to choose 3 Arrancars with the same aspects of death as those 3, but they wouldn't necessarily have to be ranked in the same order. But when only one slot is vacant, there really isn't any room for that kind of maneuverability. Think of it like this, Luppi didn't need to represent Destruction because he was becoming the Sexta Espada, he needed to represent Destruction because he was replacing Grimmjow. So Picaro being the the former #2 doesn't necessarily mean his aspect is Senescence. The original generation of Espada Aaroniero was a member of did not represent aspects of death at all, but rather the 7 deadly sins, as the original group founded by Baraggan had only 7 members before Aizen took control and expanded its roster.

I like the idea that Isane's Zanpakuto emits a field of cold over a wide area with various effects, hence healing 'properties', rather than dedicated healing. Perhaps allies in the area receive a healing effect over time, whereas enemies are slowed or receive minor damage over time. It's a bit 'video gamey' but I think it'd be an interesting Shikai ability.
Honestly I could imagine the healing properties mixed with Ice/Snow types could be related to stasis or cryogenics. Could staunch/freeze blood flow or send people into hibernation or save them on the cusp of death but doesn't directly 'heal' anything per se.
My thing is, where did these two unknown vice captains come from? It’s only been 12 years since the events of the TYBW arc and on a shinigami scale, that’s nothing. These two obviously weren’t present during the war(Kubo just thought them up and a lot of the weaker soldiers were wiped out), so where did they come from and how did they get powerful so quickly. Are they both supposed to be toshiro level prodigies? That’s convenient. No complaints though. Just curious
I don’t think he really needs to dive so deeply into that. Time has passed and we don’t know the true extent of these new vice captains. They might not even have Bankai.
Maybe Isane can only heal herself with zanpakuto, or Itegumo can only slow down how fast the injury can take down the victim, as in freezing a broken bone in place to make sure the person can keep fighting.
Isane's release command doesn't just mean run in a strict sense. It can also mean synonyms like rush, flash, retreat or flare. If we are talking something that uses snow, ice and healing, I imagine rush, in retrospect, might have been a better translation. As to abilities, ice's use in medicine are usually limited to anti-inflamatory measures, and keeping organs fresh. While the idea of an ice cast is cool, I'm tempted to believe she is either good at treating fevers (which might seem underwhelming) or organ transplant (which raises a bunch of questions). And I think Kubo's ambiguous answer about the numbering system kinda proves a point and why people are confused. What the system means for the hollows and what it means to Aizen are two completely different things. Such an ordering system might have had predated Aizen with some kind of honor system, and that changes with Aizen's control. But I can also see an universe where someone proving themselves to Aizen is applicable, because Aizen would be the kind of person to be moved about being "proven wrong" on a decision, because that's something that rarely if ever happens. It might even implicate the reason why the aspect of death is a transferable title to be hogyoku shenanigans
My guess about Itegumo is it freezes the target's life and allows Isane time to determine what to heal to prevent someone from dying. For example if someone takes a fatal stab to the heart Isane could use her shikai to freeze the person and surgically heal the smooth muscle of the person's heart so they don't immediately bleed out.
Probably Isane's Itegumo have the healing ability in its bankai form. She was ordered to chase down the fleeing Ichigo, so probably her shikai have attack or some sort of restriction based abilities with snow-ice properties. As we seen with Unohana, her shikai have the healing and her bankai have the attack abilities.
I can see maybe its like unohana's bankai where it creates a snow affect on the area that heals allies as well as maybe slow or inflict ice damage on enemies, not using it might be a combination of being taxing to her spirit energy as well as not being as strong as kaido healing, kinda like how unohana's shikai has shown to heal people but ultimately not as good as when she just uses kaido.
I'm coming from the discussion of Itegumo, because I need to get these thoughts out before I lose them. Concerning Yuyu: It stands to reason that the only real stress behind maintaining a Shikai would be in exercising special techniques. Like, I can't imagine Zabimaru being a constant drain on Renji, maybe taking a miniscule amount of effort and energy every extension, whereas something like Higa Zekko would likely be a drain on Renji's overall pool of reiryoku, etc. That said, it makes sense that Yuyu would only be exercising any notable amount of effort and energy in making those big biting attacks, or whatever else the Shikai allows her to do. Simply keeping appearances is likely a negligible amount of effort. I really dig that we finally have an answer about that though. Concerning Itegumo: I do like the theory about the release command having to do with something like running water and whatnot, but as far as I'm aware *(I'm not overtly aware)* the japanese phrase is *"hashire"*, whuch I believe is a Verb meant to be used for the act of running or sprinting. Again, I'm just a layman when it comes to Japanese, so take that with a grain of salt. Kubo was pretty broad with the words "healing abilities", and I feel like that could be more of a subset. I feel like being in Fourth Squad wouldn't necessarily mean your Zanpakuto is healing (Unohana's Bankai anyone?), but rather your proficiency with Kaido. To put down my own theory, perhaps Itegumo has an ability that can freeze a person in a sort of stasis, to maintain someone in critical condition? Like a Gentle Repose, or Spare the Dying from D&D?
I think her zanpakuto’s healing is a specific condition type of thing like maybe it halts your condition preventing metabolism by freezing your state stopping things like poison or blood loss.

I feel Isane's Shikai probably can put someone in a healing state through hibernation or suspended animation (in an ice block or something). That may explain why we haven't seen it used yet, the right situation hasn't come up. As for the combat side, maybe she can create an ice storm or blinding snow.
I hope Isane's power is the power to freeze with ice and then transfer reiatsu. She could freeze her allies to stop them from losing reiatsu. Maybe then she could freeze opponents and transfer their reiatsu over to herself or her allies to heal them. Maybe her bankai makes this a field effect and anyone in range slowly feels the cold literally sapping their energy away from them. Maybe she'll be super useful in the Hell arc this way.

Isane's zanpakuto is probably based off of native glacier water it's believed to have healing properties. Not only that it's release command is run similar to how rivers run in the mountains. With that being said she probably is able to create ice and when the ice melts it becomes drinking water that heals herself and her allies. Her hair style is reminiscent of native decent as well.

Really cool that Kubo has been answering questions relating to Zanpakuto. Yuyu's Shikai seems very unique, which is exciting. Also, Masaki and Katagiri being friends is both wholesome and sad, given how things ended up.
I feel like kubo hears the questions and goes like "hmm fingernail zanpaktou, lets go with that" and makes it sound like he came up with the idea.

I imagine that Itegumo can be used like how ice is used in medicine: reducing pain and swelling to make kaido easier to work. It could also arrest foreign reiatsu to make treatment easier. And its bankai could put people in suspended animation like a huge cryogenic chamber.
my guess as to why itegumo is never used to heal in the source material would be that only her bankai can heal, but her shikai can't (kinda the opposite of minazuki i guess) and she only achieved bankai after the tybw.
Yeah I thought of stasis too, preventing wounds to worsen, bleeding to continue, etc while slowing/stopping her enemies. Meaning also that it couldn’t be used to kill, but restrain, as the wound inflicted by her Shikai would be in stasis too.
Her bankai could turn that on herself, preventing her from dying of her wounds while it’s active, but not slowing her down. Maybe like a beautiful snowfall covering the surrounding peacefully, like in the final fight of Kill Bill 1. In this way it would allow her to retain her fleeting confidence, and in honor of her former-captain, paint the immaculate snow in red splashes…
I think her ability is a summon. Imagine she could summon some snow creature and it can't be killed becouse it keeps regenerating itself. This is the only way i can see her being both a healer and a fighter, while also being different from Toshiro and Rukia.
@@mosqapuccino So did I. The real question was how she would use it offensively i.e. the only time we see it where she was sent to attack Ichigo. I had thought it would take the form of a mist of some kind to "freeze" him in place. It's technically not meant to be used to fight directly as someone else would've had to come in and deliver a killing blow while she's restraining them.
@supersonicmario56 since Isane uses kaido to heal physical wounds, perhaps what Itegumo can do is freeze reiatsu, slowing down an opponent's ability to fight.

The thing I want most from Bleach is honestly just a complete zanpakuto encyclopedia. Every single zanpakuto in the series, names, release commands, appearance, abilities, maybe even unrevealed shikai and bankai (or at least rough ideas). Like what could the bankai be for that one guy who's zanpakuto turned into tiny flying blades that Ishida obliterated.

I'm starting to think that Aizen told the espada that they were ranked by lethality in order to drive them to desire to "rise" in the ranks by fighting for the top spots, preventing them from growing complacent, and that he kept the aspects of death secret from them.
Barragan would just tell them to spite Aizen. Like he's the one who revealed it not Aizen.
Aspects of Death isn't a secret since the Espada institution existed pior to Aizen and was there during Barragan's rulling

you see since itegumo has healing properties, but isane never uses it to heal in the source material, we can infer that only her bankai can actually heal and she wasn't able to use bankai until after the tybw.
I imagine Isane's abilities being that she's able to summon snow falling from the sky (or come out of her blade) and that being covered by it slowly puts you to sleep (yes you shouldn't sleep in the snow) but instead of... well dying, the snow has healing properties.
A Bankai version of this could be some sort of a blizzard storm, same idea behind the snow / sleep abilities but it won't heal, just put you into an eternal slumber / die of sheer cold.
Throwing a random hypothesis: maybe the rule about carrying the Zanpakuto is more lax with Kyoraku as captain, just like he's more lax with the uniforms.
I’m picturing Itegumo working like this.
Isane activates it and a mass of fluffy snow cascades over whatever she chooses. Whenever this snow comes into contact with an injured ally, it restores their Reatsu and heals minor injuries. I also think it’d be cool if she could tune it to where the snow could either heal or hurt, so it could be used in battle.
As for her Bankai (which she should have since she’s a captain now). Maybe it creates a massive blizzard that acts as a shield and even a cloak that prevents enemies from detecting anyone inside it. She could maybe allow allies to enter and leave at will but any enemy that tries to enter it gets swept up in the intense wind and cold. She would basically become a massive snowy medical tent where she could heal anyone inside while her Bankai keeps enemies at bay.
Anything related to Masaki and Kategiri is gold to me, Everything but the rain is one of if not my no1 favorite part of the series after all

It's cool that the 3 ice-types we see are ice (toshiro), Rukia (cold), and Isane (snow). I agree with how the snow could heal with her shikai. Her bankai I can see reflecting her more aggressive side and the snow could "store" the wounds it healed, then inflict them onto others. Like the snow melting on an enemy opens wounds across their body. That, or she's doubled down on healing and her bankai is merely a winter wonderland, like a mobile emergency hospital.
Yuyu's is really cool, but I do wonder how her nails "work" as a zanpakuto. It's 10 different nails right? So does her blade split into 10 separate pieces? Is there any other zanpakuto like that?
I think Kubo's answer regarding espada rankings is the only one that could be possible at this point, given everything else we know.

My theory on yuyu's shikai is that she has an animal spirit associated with each fingernail, if you look a the base of her fingernails you can decypher various types of fangs and even a cat like paw.

You're probably on the money regarding Healing being an offshoot of Itegumo's powers.
Keep in mind, Isane was the vice captain under Unohana Retsu, whose weapon very much had healing powers as an offshoot of its truly deadly nature.
Isane feels like a mirror of her captain--where Retsu was a killer who quenched her bloodthirsty nature to reinvent herself as a kind healer, Isane comes off as a kind healer who, when pushed to the edge, could be just as fearsome as her old captain. I like to believe that both of them had zanpakuto capable of healing and hurting in equal measures.
Fascinatingly, this is also the case for Hanataro, too, whose shikai can heal wounds but is, in truth, storing that trauma so that it can be unleashed on an enemy.
I think one of the her possibly bankai abilities is to create a snowfall atmosphere which every touch of snowflake can heal the wound and possibly replenish her allies stamina while able freeze or exchange the allies' wound to her enemies, this could be a good combo with either Toshiro or Rukia if they all go to hell as a team
In additional I think Itegumo give her ability to create and freely move the cloud when her enemy can break out of an ice

I imagine Isane Kotetsu stabilizes patients by putting them on ice. This can save patients on death's door by allowing them to be transported to better facilities and gives more time to heal them.

If Isane's Zanpakutō is an Ice and Snow Healing type Zanpakutō I'm gonna bet it does something like "freezing" a wound so that it can't get worse while enhancing the affects of healing kido. That would explain why we've never seen her use it to heal because it was already active in the scenes with her healing people.

Honestly I imagined Isane's Zanpakuto to be similar to Junichiro Tanizaki's ability in Bungou Stray Dogs, a snow based illusion style zanpakuto that would primarily be used for support but not directly healing
The answer about the espada promotion is once again proof of what I've been saying:
The espada rankings are based on lethality and spiritual power ,NOT the aspects of death. If not, kubo wouldn't have made Starrk being number 1 a big deal and Shunsui wouldn't have to have been worried about fighting number 1. The aspects are a part of it, however, they aren't as essential to the espada rankings.
Along with Nnoitora previously being number 8 and Barragan being upset about number 2.
If they were based on aspects of death then Barragan wouldn't have been upset and Nnoitora would've never been number 8 because he doesn't represent madness as much as Szaelapporo does who was an Espada at the time.
Trying to think what Hisanes zanpakto might do.
- can replace damaged parts with ice replicas that are fully functional as long as her zanpakto Is active
- her zanpakto has general ice abilities but has a unique ability where those killed by her zanpakto are frozen and stored (had this idea of them being stored in a warehouse she can summon on meat hooks adding a sort of creep factor), she can summon when she needs for organ replacements, etc
- mentioned rum being like running water, cold ice water is used to bring down fevers & high temps so perhaps something do with that. E.g when active the area around Isane and enemies drops and continues to drop however the more active they are the higher their temperatures get (like a fever) making it a sort of balancing game, temperatures too high die of fever, temp too low die of cold, non idea what the healing aspect of it would be
- her zanpakto converts her and her allies spiritual pressure into ice armour, higher the pressure stronger the armour, also when the armour is damaged it heals/revitalises the wearer

Honestly I could see Isane's zanpakuto being a bit of a bait and switch where its 'healing properties' only apply to herself, where it gradually heals her wounds while active as a side effect of whatever ice/snow stuff it does.

And it's not like Minazuki is a broken Kaido type to surpass or something. Unohana used it for first aid at best.
Maybe Isane's Shikai is combat-related healing, that could be a reason that she didn't use it for critical situations instead of the Kidō. Instead of healing others, could it be self-healing, similar to Unohana that learned Healing Kidō just to use in combat as we see in Zaraki's fight, but as an innate power of her Shikai, at the same time that makes a parallel with Unohana, would be a really cool detail
I don't have an exact idea of how Itegumo would work but for one of its abilities I've always imagined it manipulating the weather to make it snow and the snowflakes that fall would heal allies wounds and replenish stamina while worsening opponents and making them hurt more
I hope the zanpato spirt is a hairy man who into fashion and that's why she can use her shiki for a long time. I enjoyed that filler when we got to see the spirt forms of like everyone swords.
Hey Tommo, my theory on Isane's shikai and potentially bankai is that it uses snow and ice to freeze and heal at the same time. This would also mean using such an ability renders whomever is being healed by it a sitting duck, which is why I believe she prefers to use kido based abilities for direct healing instead. The shape of her shikai release is based on entrapment, disarmament and parry, allowing her opponents blade to get caught and slow or freeze them at the same time to open them up for kido based attacks.

It's funny that Ichigo is the biggest/only example of it but I feel like holding Shikai can't cost too much energy even Ichigos wearable Bankai wasn't hard to maintain
Itegumo's release shape is to be noted. It fans out either side. The shape doesn't lend itself to stabbing or slicing nicely. With it being a snow type, I'm thinking when waving it around flurry of snow is released between the blades. The snow comes into contact with reishi and it absorbs it, redistributing it elsewhere or directly to her. So it can be used offensively but it doesn't do targeted healing, just has some kind of mending reiatsu/healing property.
I think the aspects for 1 and 2 switched places when Starrk came, before Baraggan was #1 and his aspect of death was "time" while #2 was "loneliness" that being Picaro because of their story of a lonely hollow that created this hive mind type being that is Picaro. When Starrk came he replaced Picaro as "loneliness" and since he was stronger then Baraggan he took #1 spot.
If they ever do continue the story I hope hollows are involved. Always love hearing more about them.
What if the reason Isane doesn’t often use her Zanpakuto for its healing properties is because it only heals in a massive area, which could be a flaw if enemies are in the area even if they aren’t aware of them. Like creating snowfall over an area that heals all people within range that get touched by the snow for as long as her Reiatsu holds out. Also Tommo I am so Jealous of your grimmjow pop figure!!
They were constantly at risk so i think that Isane decided to use kaido instead of shikai beacuse it would either be waste of streanght that she may need in case of being attacked alone or it would simply be hard to hide or move in case of running away. I always saw Isane as very tactical type of person, so she is trying to use only powers required even if it takes longer instead of going all out
I kinda wanna see them animate the Hell Arc as just a little bonus short after the TYBW anime ends

Speaking of the Espada arc, has anyone asked on Klub with regards to Ashido Kano and the Forest of Menos?
Her focus is probably stasis, freezing things harmlessly. Basically used as a way to remove her opponents for capture, or patients for treatment, putting them into a healing hybernation. Its like Kirinji's healing onsen, but cold style reiatau is probably slower to act and modulate, making it less likely for her to kill by overhealing.
Maybe it slows/chills/freezes on contact. As a healing property it's more like how you'd ice burns, keep severed limbs/transplant organs cold so they don't expire, or cool fevers so it's not terribly useful as a direct healing method, but is more a useful tool for supporting her healing abilities in certain circumstances.
And in an offensive sense heat is just kinetic energy so she can also rob enemies of their motion/heat. Hence "Run" being the release command.
I really like the nails as a Shikai. It's really cool and unique.

"Ichigo Awakens" had an interesting concept for Isane's zanpakuto, that anything that passes between her blades becomes numb, useful for emergency healing but also combat as like an inverse of Mayuri's shikai, you can still move but you can't feel where she hit, you don’t know how bad the damage is, especially if she lands multiple strikes or there are more enemies.
Of course, much like canon Isane slipped into the background and nothing was done with her character or sword.
Healing snow sounds pretty cool. Like I could imagine someone is really badly injured and she packs their wound with the snow to help prevent bleeding and to heal it. Perhaps her bankai lets her create snowfall in a big AOE area, with the snow that falls from the sky healing allies and injuring enemies / purifying hollows. Then maybe she can manipulate the snow drifts on the ground to become barriers or buildings to protect the injured, or to trap and contain enemies. Maybe she's even inspired by her former captain and the snow can steal vitality from enemies to give to allies. An ability like that which can beat enemies, while not requiring aggression from the user would be kind of perfect for a true healer type.
So basically the whole Gotei 13 Captains now, we have 3 Ice user captains. Hitsugaya, Rukia and Isane.
Unohana was really fond of Isane, i always thought given her character and the people she cares about, i believe that similarly to how Kenpachi was some sort of Apprentice to her, Isane also has this quality for her, and saw that both needed her gone to Growth, i think her zanpakuto might just work with blood directly and tus she is quite apprehensive to use it
If I had to guess why Luppi was promoted to number 6 instead of number 9 (and pushing the others up) was just Aizen fucking with Grimmjow because Aizen is the type to fuck around with people just because its funny to him.

I was waiting for you to respond to this great video as always and was wondering if maybe isane’s zanpaktou works something like cryo therapy or perhaps something like cryo sleeping
the only thing I can associate putting ice and healing together is...cryogeny? maybe Isane´s zanpakutou ability have something about being able to freeze, keeping the target alive and healing them if she wants to (and if she doesn´t, it just freeze the target as a way to immobilize them to easily attack with her zanpakutou´s blades
I love the idea of Yuyu's zanpakuto maybe it's more like a totem pole type idea with multiple animals she can change between that would be so cool
On Yuyu's nails towards the base of each finger shows fangs, but on her thumbnails are bear paws. Her attacks probably revolve around how she orients her hands while fighting (ie if she were to throw a punch it would be in the form of a bear paw swipe).

With regards to Yuyu's constant shikai state, its very similar to Ichigo's constant shikai state. Maybe constant shikai state consumes reiatsu to some degree up to exhaustive, but can become negligible thru some reiatsu control, high-affinity with the zanpakuto or if one have a large pool of reiatsu.
I think that it would be cool if Itegumo was like Arata Nitta’s ability from JJK. The ice freezes the wound, not letting it become any worse, but not really healing it. She could use to to stop severe wounds from worsening, while using Kaido to heal the person further
It could be that Isane’s shikai can only heal herself. That could explain why she never draws it when she’s healing others, but did draw it when she was going to fight Ichigo.

about isane i imagine she can freeze wounds for treatment preventing loss of blood/life force and preserve those near death in a kind of suspended animation may be even cold weld body parts together. though i imagine its a new ability as that would have been very useful in the last war.
When considering the concepts of "snow/ice" and "healing", the first thing that came to my mind was some kind of cryogenics ability.
I would've genuinely liked to see Aizen recreating the Espada.
I bet Yuyu's shikai is probably a different interpretation and canon implementation of the concept of Kuruyashiki's Gagakukairo. That's at least the next similar power I think of along with Sajin's Tenken with a Shikai seemingly spawning an apparition and devouring what it hits.

If I had to guess at Ikegumo's power, my first thought goes to how the trope in anime for when someone is sick is putting a cold cloth on their forehead. I think Ikegumo's power is probably around the idea of cooling things off, allowing Isane to control the temperature of whatever Ikegumo touches. In Shikai, it uses the cold to cool off fevers and sterilize people and objects of things like bacteria, probably even purifying things like Hollow Reiastu which will allow wounds to heal much faster, but, in Bankai, I think it's essentially similar to Rukia's power with Sode no Shirayuki, using cold to slow and still the activity of particles and essentially "kill" them, but, instead of Rukia where she can only really do herself, Isane's occurs in a much, much wider area, covering an entire area in snow where, whatever the snow touches, is stilled, particularly their Reiastu, and thus rendering them functionally inert, unable to grow or change, essentially freezing them in time and also stopping them from being able to use any Reiastu-based abilities like their Zanpakuto or things like Kido, perhaps even eventually lulling them into eternal, frozen sleep if they're exposed to it long enough.
It'd be cool if Itegumo could make it snow around a given area and heal a large number of shinigami all at once. It might not be a very powerful healing ability, which is why she used the Kaidō on the severely injured characters as you mentioned -- but it can heal a wide number of injured shinigami in an area. Maybe it's also like Shinji's bankai -- in that, she can't specify who to heal, which is why she doesn't use it during big fights. Maybe?
About the previous Espada generations, I wonder if we need to assume that there were always 10 Espada or instead at some point there were less, either because the number was officially lower (i.e., only 5 Espada positions were available to be assigned at some point) or because Aizen left some positions as vacant waiting for the right fit. On this point, for instance, we have Aizen in the Arrancar arc commenting on the Espada not being complete yet (chapter 213)

I could see Itegumo coating wounds in ice, numbing the pain and eventually closing wounds, but the wound closure is slow. In bankai maybe it's capable of even replacing lost limbs with ones made of ice, allowing the shinigami to either keep fighting or escape to save their lives and seek further treatment. Hence they can keep 'running'.

"Healing properties" - temperature - numbing pains like an ice pack to prolongue endurance while also being able to apply cold fast enough to burn with the change of heat. Maybe using snowfall or flakes as a method of application.

The aspects of death aren't tied intrinsically to the Espada rankings, it's just that each Espada has to represent a different aspect of death, so when Grimmjow was demoted only another Arrancar with the same aspect of death could replace him as the others were all accounted for already. If, let's say Aizen wanted to promote 3 new Espada following the deaths of Aaroniero, Szayelaporro and Zommari, then yes he would need to choose 3 Arrancars with the same aspects of death as those 3, but they wouldn't necessarily have to be ranked in the same order. But when only one slot is vacant, there really isn't any room for that kind of maneuverability. Think of it like this, Luppi didn't need to represent Destruction because he was becoming the Sexta Espada, he needed to represent Destruction because he was replacing Grimmjow. So Picaro being the the former #2 doesn't necessarily mean his aspect is Senescence.
The original generation of Espada Aaroniero was a member of did not represent aspects of death at all, but rather the 7 deadly sins, as the original group founded by Baraggan had only 7 members before Aizen took control and expanded its roster.

I like the idea that Isane's Zanpakuto emits a field of cold over a wide area with various effects, hence healing 'properties', rather than dedicated healing. Perhaps allies in the area receive a healing effect over time, whereas enemies are slowed or receive minor damage over time. It's a bit 'video gamey' but I think it'd be an interesting Shikai ability.
Honestly I could imagine the healing properties mixed with Ice/Snow types could be related to stasis or cryogenics. Could staunch/freeze blood flow or send people into hibernation or save them on the cusp of death but doesn't directly 'heal' anything per se.
My thing is, where did these two unknown vice captains come from? It’s only been 12 years since the events of the TYBW arc and on a shinigami scale, that’s nothing. These two obviously weren’t present during the war(Kubo just thought them up and a lot of the weaker soldiers were wiped out), so where did they come from and how did they get powerful so quickly. Are they both supposed to be toshiro level prodigies? That’s convenient. No complaints though. Just curious
I don’t think he really needs to dive so deeply into that. Time has passed and we don’t know the true extent of these new vice captains. They might not even have Bankai.
Maybe Isane can only heal herself with zanpakuto, or Itegumo can only slow down how fast the injury can take down the victim, as in freezing a broken bone in place to make sure the person can keep fighting.
Isane's release command doesn't just mean run in a strict sense. It can also mean synonyms like rush, flash, retreat or flare. If we are talking something that uses snow, ice and healing, I imagine rush, in retrospect, might have been a better translation. As to abilities, ice's use in medicine are usually limited to anti-inflamatory measures, and keeping organs fresh. While the idea of an ice cast is cool, I'm tempted to believe she is either good at treating fevers (which might seem underwhelming) or organ transplant (which raises a bunch of questions).
And I think Kubo's ambiguous answer about the numbering system kinda proves a point and why people are confused. What the system means for the hollows and what it means to Aizen are two completely different things. Such an ordering system might have had predated Aizen with some kind of honor system, and that changes with Aizen's control. But I can also see an universe where someone proving themselves to Aizen is applicable, because Aizen would be the kind of person to be moved about being "proven wrong" on a decision, because that's something that rarely if ever happens. It might even implicate the reason why the aspect of death is a transferable title to be hogyoku shenanigans
My guess about Itegumo is it freezes the target's life and allows Isane time to determine what to heal to prevent someone from dying. For example if someone takes a fatal stab to the heart Isane could use her shikai to freeze the person and surgically heal the smooth muscle of the person's heart so they don't immediately bleed out.
Probably Isane's Itegumo have the healing ability in its bankai form. She was ordered to chase down the fleeing Ichigo, so probably her shikai have attack or some sort of restriction based abilities with snow-ice properties. As we seen with Unohana, her shikai have the healing and her bankai have the attack abilities.
I can see maybe its like unohana's bankai where it creates a snow affect on the area that heals allies as well as maybe slow or inflict ice damage on enemies, not using it might be a combination of being taxing to her spirit energy as well as not being as strong as kaido healing, kinda like how unohana's shikai has shown to heal people but ultimately not as good as when she just uses kaido.
I'm coming from the discussion of Itegumo, because I need to get these thoughts out before I lose them.
Concerning Yuyu: It stands to reason that the only real stress behind maintaining a Shikai would be in exercising special techniques. Like, I can't imagine Zabimaru being a constant drain on Renji, maybe taking a miniscule amount of effort and energy every extension, whereas something like Higa Zekko would likely be a drain on Renji's overall pool of reiryoku, etc.
That said, it makes sense that Yuyu would only be exercising any notable amount of effort and energy in making those big biting attacks, or whatever else the Shikai allows her to do. Simply keeping appearances is likely a negligible amount of effort. I really dig that we finally have an answer about that though.
Concerning Itegumo: I do like the theory about the release command having to do with something like running water and whatnot, but as far as I'm aware *(I'm not overtly aware)* the japanese phrase is *"hashire"*, whuch I believe is a Verb meant to be used for the act of running or sprinting. Again, I'm just a layman when it comes to Japanese, so take that with a grain of salt.
Kubo was pretty broad with the words "healing abilities", and I feel like that could be more of a subset. I feel like being in Fourth Squad wouldn't necessarily mean your Zanpakuto is healing (Unohana's Bankai anyone?), but rather your proficiency with Kaido.
To put down my own theory, perhaps Itegumo has an ability that can freeze a person in a sort of stasis, to maintain someone in critical condition? Like a Gentle Repose, or Spare the Dying from D&D?
I think her zanpakuto’s healing is a specific condition type of thing like maybe it halts your condition preventing metabolism by freezing your state stopping things like poison or blood loss.
