Receptionist at Andertons: Hello, Andertons. Paul Reed Smith: Is The F##king Captain in? Receptionist: One moment, I´ll see if he's in. The Captain: *last seen running for the door* Receptionist: Sorry Paul, he's left the company
@Landslide 100% disagree. As I pointed out elsewhere, I have a Gibson LP Traditional in Wine, and a PRS Custom 24 in Charcoal Burst, and the PRS is FAR better looking. It's likely a matter of personal preference, because I had to look long and far to find an LP that didn't look like it sat in a smokey pawnshop for 30 years with the yellowed aging nicotine fade that they seem to put on 95% of them. If you're a guitar traditionalist, I can see why you might prefer the LP, but as a work of art, most of the PRS's I've seen are just gorgeous. I saw they actually did a display of PRS guitars at the Musical Instrument Museum to show how amazing some of them were.
Maiiviioth, So you're saying the captain intentionally jeopardized his relationship with PRS guitars? Use your head... And until you do a blindfold challenge yourself - you don't know anything.
Let's do remember it was based on 20 second samples, mate. I need far more than that to connect with a guitar, good or bad. Fun video, but there you have it :)
Lee sweating bullets as he think of Paul R. Smith watching this... ..."That's it, pull all our stock from Andertons! And tell that f*&ker to send that Singlecut back to me pronto! It was a B-Stock anyhow..."
blindfolding Lee is a great representation of what we might think of guitars if we didn't have our eyes. It contrasts with Chappers knowledge super well. When I watch Lee, I know he's going to mention all the things I would possibly look for in playability and tone. But watching Chappers is almost for pure entertainment. Great vids fam! Keep it up!
andrew buckley So true. What I found interesting is the initial top three were extremely close: 8.1, 8.1, 8 but Lee's L8LP was initially third, albeit by a whisker.
Yea, so we can have Lee sit there and try to guess which guitar he's holding instead of giving it an honest rating. That test was bullshit. He sat there and tried to guess the identities of the guitars by feel, and he obviously knows a Les Paul's shape, pick guard, etc. That's why he gave the Epiphone such a high score
You should give him every guitar two times. Give him all of them once and then change the order and repeat. I think otherwise there will be Kind of a bias with grades going up in the course of the video. Also would be interesting to see if you guys will rate the same guitar in the same way both times :P
I've stumbled across a Maybach Lester 57 in a shop and cherry picked it over a dozen Les Pauls Standards, the hardware on it is fantastic and the amber pickups sounded better than anything else I've heard. A really good alternative brand to Gibson
Maybachs are cool guitars. Not to be compared with Epiphone or other overseas manufacfured. They are all with nitro finishes and highend components such as Amber and Kloppmann pickups.
OMG, that intro music worried me that The Captain and Chappers were going to come dancing out from one side in grass skirts. Thank you so much for not subjecting me to that!!
Dear people of Andertons: Blindfold Challenge. Fanned frets, true temperament frets and both combined(optional), evertune bridges and other stuff of that sort. Don't tell the guys in advance. You're welcome.
the big trends these past few years among artists is the use of Evertune bridges and Fishman Fluence pickups. I'd love to see some coverage of these technologies.
I owned a Gibson ‘52 Tribute, R8, R6 and a Collins 290, before I bought my Maybach. That’s a keeper for me. Love the neck, weight, pickups, and finish (gold).
When you are scoring on scale such as this that tends to happen. You see it all the time with teachers scoring students tests (hence they go back and review the first set of tests after then finish the full stack) OR you see it a lot in creative concept testing - in movies, advertising etc etc.
In fairness for the PRS, Lee gave lower scores at the beginning and higher towards the end after he played the one ending up his favorite. So maybe this is just a trend due to the experiment.
Lee has now made his own Blind Test - 3 way tie; worthy of a follow up for the Chapman ML-2. His only problem was a broken string. That is amazing, because Lee would have tied a Gibson Les Paul Classic with the Chapman ML-2. Bravo Lee!!! You really did it now. LOL :: So here is a reminder of my previous ML-2 Request. ---- Congratulations on Winning the Total Guitar Best New Guitar 2017 Award and the Best New Buy Award that has been "Bestowed Upon" your Chapman ML-2 MODERN 2017 model. Hopefully you two or the guy at the Total Guitar can do a video to share some of the outstanding features that help win those awards for the ML-2 Modern. Namm 2018 just ended and I'm looking forward to seeing your new updates and guitars. I just hope you didn't over tune the update on the already 2017 Award Winning ML-2. Thanks for all your great videos and keep up the good work. Peace Out and I hope you guys can keep that Chapman ML-2 in stock; until, I can pick one up.
PS @Rob Chapman: sure would be nice to see a side by side comparison of the Gibson Les Paul Classic and the Chapman ML-2. Just to help with Lee's "Broken String Tie Award" for the ML-2. Plus or minus the switching confusion, but with some real time to hear the notes please. Unless you two are up for a real ML-2 Victory Lap Video?
That Ending though! I've enjoyed the Andertons Videos much more recently than I've enjoyed the chapman videos in the past. The dynamic between you and chappers has become a lot better. I especially love your blind folded videos!
Good vid. Maybe though you should have given Lee a LTD with Seymour Duncans or Fishman rather than EMG's seeing as he said previously he doesn't like the sound of them. Hence the 'It plays ok I don't really like the sound' comment. Very much looking forward to more of these though.
What's more interesting about this is the shift that occurs when something like a sense is impaired/removed. Contrast and compare to experiments with the way that perceptions of the taste of food vary according to different lighting, or colouration added. The way that wine experts were fooled by adding red dye to white wine, and describing it in all the terms that are usually used for reds. Humans are complicated things, and are fooled all to easily, when usual conditions are changed.
Concearning the Maybach, I only have one of them and I have to say, I love it! I prefer it over my Gibson Les Paul Standard from 2017. Maybe I've ended up with a good one (no idea when it comes to consistency). I'm not a fan of the relic thing, but I'd still pick it up over my other high ends like the LP and my PRS.
My Maybach 59 Lester is better sounding and playing than any Custom Shop / Collectors Choice Les Paul I’ve owned and retails much less… stunning guitars
A couple mistakes at the end: - the Gretsch did not score higher than the PRS. the Gretsch was a 5/10 and the PRS had 6.5-7/10. - the one that Lee didn't like the sound of was the LTD, not the PRS. he didn't say anything about the sound of the PRS. Either way, fun video. Editing is on point as always.
Challenge suggestion... bring in an equal number of your personal guitars and while blind-folded, try to name that guitar - this is for both Rob and Lee...
8:47 - this is flawed. He should have gone through all guitars again and rated them again because it's apperent, that numbers went up in the course of testing!
yeah, he picks his own guitar in the end. Proof that he's used to playing Les Pauls and likes the feel. Most of us would do the same if we spend any time on our favorite.
Please explore selling Eastman guitars. I’m sure you’ve heard from other people but these are extraordinary guitars. Their electric and acoustic lines. Their new solid bodies are spectacular - and fairly priced. And, no I am not a rep for them, I just own a few.
It's awesome that they did not edited this video.. just to please Paul :) I have a PRS SC58 and a R9 Gibson: both absolutely great instruments, and one day my #1 is PRS, another Gibson. Gibson has always an instant good sound, but overall PRS is IMHO a slightly better and better made
It's easy to know a Les Paul, just by the weight and sound. Reverend's are just great mid range guitars that play and sound like a high end instrument. They are under the radar. I must try one out soon.
I love these videos, and the sentiment. You’re right... find something you like and like it for whatever reasons you like it for! Don’t stop guys! Great entertainment and great tips for guitar buyers of all price points.
Hahahahaha Lee's face when he saw the PRS! I always got the sense he wasn't much of a fan of it but obviously couldn't say anything all things considered lol
Maybach. I agree. They are super nice. I had one (I only play super strats these days). When I will get an LP again (bound to happen some day), Maybach is definitely on the top of my want list. They have a custom shop version too.
Time for the Dream Team : Danish Pete, Tom Quayle & Lee Wrathe. On the bench for additional humour: Paul Glover. Not one one-trick pony between them and all bases covered.
What they should do is have Danish Pete play the guitars with same chords and riffs while Rob and lee and Pete are all blindfolded. They should also write their votes instead of saying score out loud until the end.
These blindfold tests are the most entertaining videos you have done. I would love more comparisons but more in depth! Please interview Guitar God Danish Pete. I want to know more about him.
Another fun video, not surprising Lee chose the LP's. I always think the LP's sound better than any other single-cut on the Andertons videos and Lee obviously has a connection with them. Having said that I have a Gibson LP (Studio with Burstbucker Pros) and also a Vintage Lemon Drop with Wilkinson pickups. The Vintage actually sounds better to my ears, closer to what a LP typically sounds like, granted it does have upgraded wiring & pots. The Gibson gets played more though, because it does sound great, it has a better neck and it's lighter in weight.
Huzzah for the Epiphone ! That was the surprise for me. A two hundred pound guitar coming 5th.I could almost feel Robs contempt for it lol. I'd love to see a Harley Benton a blindfold line up.
I actually own the Gretsch and after a day of owning it I thought the neck pick up was way too muddy for my liking so I cut it out and just play on the bridge pick up and let me tell you that guitar rips!!
I think the Captain loves that little riff from the intro to James Gang "Walk Away" Great review, by the way. One of the best single cutaway LP style guitars I've ever played was an Ibanez that was for sale for $199. I "thought about it" for a day and it was Guh On. Lesson learned, don't think about it. Buy it.
Completely disagree on the Maybach. We stock them here in Trondheim, every guitar they deliver is really, REALLY good, and they are incredibly popular! But, each to his own I guess! :)
I gotta say, the editing really makes these recent videos a bit more light-hearted and entertaining. Great vid guys
It's a shame, I never like the editing on these videos, in my opinion it's largely unnecessary.
Agreed
Just for the sake of clarity, I was agreeing with the OP, mainly due to namesakedness. But I do like the editing.
lol
That is Pete’s magic man!
Receptionist at Andertons: Hello, Andertons.
Paul Reed Smith: Is The F##king Captain in?
Receptionist: One moment, I´ll see if he's in.
The Captain: *last seen running for the door*
Receptionist: Sorry Paul, he's left the company
Likes the epiphone better than the prs. Top 10 anime betrayals
Matas G maybe because he likes thicker necks?
ky99999999 it's a joke dude
It does makes sense because of lee liking the older style Les pauls necks.
The PRS has the newer style.
Bum YourNan yeah, i know that obvious joke, but just trying to come up with some practical reasoning
Interesting video. Through a different amp and pedal the guitars will sound different and so would the PRS.
Also that was the best, most appropriate “that’s what she said” I’ve heard in a long time.
Perfect timing. Came out of nowhere yet it was absolutely needed
yes made me laugh so hard!!!!!!
which one? the 20 seconds one or the "you're in"?
The PRS got at ‘6.5/7 maybe’ score. The LTD got a 6.8. The PRS was later quoted to have received a 5......woops?
+
@Scarpa96 Try looking at the PRS S2 Singlecut Faded Blue Smokeburst and tell me if they look gross.
@Landslide 100% disagree. As I pointed out elsewhere, I have a Gibson LP Traditional in Wine, and a PRS Custom 24 in Charcoal Burst, and the PRS is FAR better looking. I saw they actually did a display of PRS guitars at the Musical Instrument Museum to show how amazing some of them were.
Don’t let Paul (PRS) see this video. He might want to take his gift back.
Larry Wilson Jr was thinking the same thing. That's gonna leave a mark lol
Let's see the scores after he plays for an hour blindfolded. One of the common gripes is the Les Pauls do not stay in tune while the PRS guitars do.
It takes about 2 seconds to tell a gibson/epiphone from a PRS with just your right forearm resting on the body. I'm not sure I buy this A/B.
Maiiviioth, So you're saying the captain intentionally jeopardized his relationship with PRS guitars?
Use your head...
And until you do a blindfold challenge yourself - you don't know anything.

shoutout to whoever edits these videos, you crack me up at least once (most often a good couple times) every video I watch.
Simon Vercoe Rory is the best, undeniably!!
Rory is awesome.
Lee's face when he realized he admitted to not liking his PRS is just amazing
Lee starter pack:
- More than a feeling
- Funk 49
- Oddly specific decimals
never connected that lick with Funk 49, now I can't unhear it
Every time, and I ain’t complainin
blindfolding Lee is a great representation of what we might think of guitars if we didn't have our eyes. It contrasts with Chappers knowledge super well. Isn't it amazing how we listen with our eyes, we're all a little bit gear snobbish
andrew buckley
So true.
What I found interesting is the initial top three were extremely close: 8.1, 8.1, 8
but Lee's L8LP was initially third, albeit by a whisker.
He played each guitar for about twenty seconds and played a few chords each time. This vid proves nothing.
bottomline is find the guitar/bass you like...
I don't on anything i buy, i look at guitars as a piece of blank wood, because i just re paint time.. Same as in firearms..
+Alex Janmo
My £400 fender tele has a quality nothing else I own possesses.
Really love the fact that Lee was just guenuinely honest about his answers. Think it says a lot about the feel of the different guitars.
More blindfold challenges!
NickRS600 yes!
Yes yes !
Yea, so we can have Lee sit there and try to guess which guitar he's holding instead of giving it an honest rating. That test was bullshit. Very true I own a Maybach Lester a wonderful guitar Gibson Custom shop quality for Standard price point
I own a Maybach Lester too, it is great! Great feel and the quality is superb. Only weights 3.6kg (7lb and 15oz)
Whoever does your editing deserves a medal. Consistently cracks me up xD
OMG, that intro music worried me that The Captain and Chappers were going to come dancing out from one side in grass skirts. Thank you so much for not subjecting me to that!!
"You are in she said" - Captain @ 5:25
"Thats what she said" - whisper voice @ 8:50
Would love to see where a Japanese Tokai would come in this kind of test. Love mine
Well, we know Lee's favourite chord progression.. 😂
The Glorious, and ever-working A chord. Lee’s signature move.
Haven’t even watched the video yet
Strong, familiar, easy to make comparisons with. Makes sense to me.
I dream about that chord progression every time I watch a video
Dear people of Andertons:
Blindfold Challenge.
Fanned frets,
true temperament frets
and both combined(optional),
evertune bridges

Don't tell the guys in advance.
You're welcome.
the big trends these past few years among artists is the use of Evertune bridges and Fishman Fluence pickups. I'd love to see some coverage of these technologies.
Dig it... Passed on...
yes to this
Lee is going to hate an Evertune. You can't do bends or vibrato.
Andertons Music Co Awesome! Looking forward to see the video!
I owned a Gibson ‘52 Tribute, R8, R6 and a Collins 290, before I bought my Maybach. That’s a keeper for me. Love the neck, weight, pickups, and finish (gold).
ill never forget the chapters with the googly eyes on his glasses lol
this videos are AWESOME and the eating is even more KILLER!
I like these blindfolded challenges. Really fun to watch. Keep up the awesome work!
I've noticed in these videos that the scoring becomes more favourable the further into the selection they are.
When you are scoring on scale such as this that tends to happen. You see it all the time with teachers scoring students tests (hence they go back and review the first set of tests after then finish the full stack) OR you see it a lot in creative concept testing - in movies, advertising etc etc.
Cool to see the Reverend do so well here. I really wish I could try out some of their guitars.
In fairness for the PRS, Lee gave lower scores at the beginning and higher towards the end after he played the one ending up his favorite. So maybe this is just a trend due to the experiment.
PRS fanboys upset.

A short poem by Rory McLean - Beautiful
"He just played his heart." Ha! I love these guys.
Good vid. Maybe though you should have given Lee a LTD with Seymour Duncans or Fishman rather than EMG's seeing as he said previously he doesn't like the sound of them. Hence the 'It plays ok I don't really like the sound' comment. Very much looking forward to more of these though.
Funky Monkey1886 never know unless you try
I really enjoyed that, you all in the video were having fun. And so was I.
I loved the face Lee made when the PRS didn't do so well. Like, Oh no! Paul is going to hate me now! Lol! 🎸
Love the editing! And, the blindfold challenges, keep em up!
What's more interesting about this is the shift that occurs when something like a sense is impaired/removed. Concearning the Maybach,
I only have one of them and I have to say, I love it! I prefer it over my Gibson Les Paul Standard from 2017.
Maybe I've ended up with a good one (no idea when it comes to consistency). I'm not a fan of the relic thing, but I'd still pick it up over my other high ends like the LP and my PRS.
I've owned and played multiple Maybach Lesters. They all have been great.
I own a Maybach Lester Gibson custom quality for Standard price a wonderful guitar
I own a Maybach Lester too, it is great! Great feel and the quality is superb. Only weights 3.6kg (7lb and 15oz)
My Maybach 59 Lester is better sounding and playing than any Custom Shop / Collectors Choice Les Paul I’ve owned and retails much less… stunning guitars
I would say there's probably an "earwax on the day" factor that should be considered too !!!
A couple mistakes at the end:

- the one that Lee didn't like the sound of was the LTD, not the PRS. he didn't say anything about the sound of the PRS.

Someone please buy these guys a guitar tuner! Love the video, but dam!
The gibson style headstock is just a bad design.
"Can i have more than 20 seconds this time?"
"That's what she said"
This is why i love this channel
If you did them in another order you'd probably get different results haha. Love these blind fold videos!
This video was fun. Looking forward to the Chappers one with the pointy guitars.
That lp classic was amazing looking
13:28 Rob became Scottish for a split second there
Challenge suggestion... bring in an equal number of your personal guitars and while blind-folded, try to name that guitar - this is for both Rob and Lee...
Please do a demo/review of that Maybach Lester ASAP!!! Maybe compared to Lee's reissue Les Paul.
"Lee's LP85"? I thought it was supposed to be a '58 :P
I totally enjoyed this video guys! I loved that the Captain picked his own LP. I hope I would pick mine as well.
I need to see full review Maybach vs. Reverend vs. Gretsch vs. Epiphone.
Maybach is great! Please do a Maybach vs Gibson video!
Aart Smith Oh god, yes please!
Yesssss!
8:47 - this is flawed. He should have gone through all guitars again and rated them again because it's apperent, that numbers went up in the course of testing!
Of course, it's flawed. I don't think going through twice would add much credibility to the test (20 seconds to play!). These vids are just good fun.
Going through all of them would confirm the score
yeah, he picks his own guitar in the end. Proof that he's used to playing Les Pauls and likes the feel. Most of us would do the same if we spend any time on our favorite.
i feel he gave the gretsch a 5 because it was the first guitar and that is half the top mark
love that there arew more videos coming up its cool to have u back
Please explore selling Eastman guitars. I’m sure you’ve heard from other people but these are extraordinary guitars. Their electric and acoustic lines. Their new solid bodies are spectacular - and fairly priced. And, no I am not a rep for them, I just own a few.
Great video and the final montage is just great quality !
ooh shout out to the JVM410H in the back, awesome amp! also great infotainment as always fellas - dont ever stop!
Solid Vid... this is what we've been waiting for.
The way Rob instinctively went to put the bridge pickup on the Gretsch before Lee even said it😂
It's awesome that they did not edited this video.. just to please Paul :) I have a PRS SC58 and a R9 Gibson: both absolutely great instruments, and one day my #1 is PRS, another Gibson. Gibson has always an instant good sound, but overall PRS is IMHO a slightly better and better made
Great video, keep these blindfolded vids coming!
Would like to see a blindfold small amp challenge......
That gratis PRS that PRS gave to Lee is being recalled tout de suite
"I'm so conscious as to not feel hardware, or anything for that matter" So, the complete opposite of Rob doing a blindfold challenge then.......
Really enjoyed that vid guy's and so glad the capt picked his own gib lp
6:31 tell me im not the only one that heard Rob's heart cracking like an old house's wooden floor...
Eric Valverde he looked broken for about 2 seconds didn’t he? Actually that was after the second play/broken string score. Good recovery though
Hahahahaha Lee's face when he saw the PRS! I always got the sense he wasn't much of a fan of it but obviously couldn't say anything all things considered lol
"Feels like one I've already had and I quite like it"
gus dupree
Good video. Like it!!! Good editing at the end!!!
Loved that video...
Buying a Les Paul later this year. Haven't decided on model yet but that's fun as well...choice and anticipation.
The best videos online!!!
Well the mayback looks beautiful
Maybach. I agree. They are super nice. I had one (I only play super strats these days). When I will get an LP again (bound to happen some day), Maybach is definitely on the top of my want list.
They have a custom shop version too.
The sound is great as well. I do have a Teleman 54 and it is perfect.
I have no doubts about that, meneer Middelhuis.
Gents, on the continent Maybachs are a good €1000 cheaper than a Gibson LP Standard.
I own a Maybach Lester a wonderful guitar close to Gibson custom quality at less than half the price
I miss these days. Watching again 2 years later. 🤙🏽
PRS - 6.5
Epiphone - 7.4
*Wait, that's illegal!*
My goodness, that gretsch might have been my favorite in terms of look and sound.
My next guitar will be a Reverend :-)
Georges Braun nice! I've got my eye on the Little Crow Raven guitar
Zach Smith I‘m lefty so joice is limited...but they have a small range.
I played a USA made Reverend a long time ago, loved it and always regretted not buying it. I’ll be looking at them again after this.
That neck position sounded great.
I love mine so much!
That maybach Was awesome !
I'd LOVE to see you do a head to head (blindfolded) of ESP/LTD Eclipses vs Gibson/Epiphone Les Pauls. See of the ESP/LTDs can show a little better.
Great video editing! Another fun and entertaining video:)
People think that picking out guitars blindfolded is way easier than it actually is. These guys are honest.
I really like the Maybach guitars. I think you get better value for money buying one of those than a Gibson or Fender USA
Huzzah for the Epiphone ! That was the surprise for me. A two hundred pound guitar coming 5th.I could almost feel Robs contempt for it lol. I'd love to see a Harley Benton a blindfold line up.
I swear I can hear Pete say “this ones your....” right before handing Lee his LP for the second time
Yep, he did. Im not surprised. Their all faked.
8:57
Do a double cut blindfold test these vids are so good! Love the amp vids
Sheesh - I have a nice PRS 594 10 top too, but that burst in the video is amazing!
Great honesty, fantastic video!
I actually own the Gretsch and after a day of owning it I thought the neck pick up was way too muddy for my liking so I cut it out and just play on the bridge pick up and let me tell you that guitar rips!!
Nice! Thinking about getting one. Looks killer! Only wish it was a double cut.
17:25 was hilarious
I think the Captain loves that little riff from the intro to James Gang "Walk Away" Great review, by the way. One of the best single cutaway LP style guitars I've ever played was an Ibanez that was for sale for $199. I "thought about it" for a day and it was Guh On. Lesson learned, don't think about it. Buy it.
Completely disagree on the Maybach.
We stock them here in Trondheim, every guitar they deliver is really, REALLY good, and they are incredibly popular! But, each to his own I guess! :)
I like all of the musicians in the Anderton's videos, but this paring has long proved to be my favorite.
The biggest thing I learned from this video is I hate the way EMGs sound. Oh and I need that Reverend
That classic gold top though... I’m in love
