If you go west, across the salt flats, there's a stretch without an exit for 58 miles. Check your gas gauge. But east, there's mountains. Now, those are mountains, and the views are sublime. The shot going east into SLC is something else. Remembering US 40, the National Road, the nation's first interstate highway. Instead of ending in San Francisco, as it once did, it ends in the mountains east of Salt Lake. Kind of a shame. Of all the original cross-country routes, only US 20 and 30 remain.
Mileage Mike has a video on his other channel about longest stretch of interstates without an exit. It included the stretch of I-80 you’re talking about.
Extending US 6 to Long Beach was an afterthought; not part of the original Federal System. Original 6, starting at Cape Cod, was just in New England in 1926, By 1937, several extensions took it all the way to Long Beach. It, like US 40, 50, 60, 70 and 80, has been cut off by various states (primarily Caltrans) from their original terminuses.
The park city section is awesome especially this stretch of interstate 80 in utah

I guess US 6 came later? Or maybe doesn't count since Bishop CA isn't on the coast?
