Wow. One unique thing seen here is that instead of cutting hillside to make way for the road, they have built bridges alongside the hillside, erecting pylons. This probably have avoided the problem of frequent landslide. Great idea!!!
Recently I have done the drive to Chengde( north of China), small scale compare with this road but similar construction. The elevated road, bridge and tunnels are away from the mountains, so avoid falling rocks and flood damage to road. Make the road very safe and accessible all year round. Really really impressive, the west could not compare at all.
