Stuff we use:
CAMERA - This is the camera we have used to film 90+% of our interviews (over 200 interviews and counting) It continues to be our workhorse - amzn.to/2u66V1J
LENS - Most people ask us what camera we use, no one ever asks about the lens which filmmakers always tell us is more important. This lens was a big investment for us and one we wish we could have made sooner. Started using this lens at the end of 2013 - amzn.to/2tbtmOq
AUDIO
Rode VideoMic Pro - The Rode mic helps us capture our backup audio. It also helps us sync up our audio in post amzn.to/2t1n2hx
Audio Recorder - If we had to do it all over again, this is probably the first item we would have bought - amzn.to/2tbFlM9
LIGHTS - Although we like to use as much natural light as we can, we often enhance the lighting with this small portable light. We have two of them and they have saved us a number of times - amzn.to/2u5UnHv
COMPUTER - Our favorite computer, we each have one and have used various models since 2010 - amzn.to/2t1M67Z
EDITING - We upgraded our editing suite this year and we’re glad we did! This has improved our workflow and the quality of our work. Having new software also helps when we have a problem, it’s easy to search and find a solution - goo.gl/56LnpM

He has a point, you have to think about your audience. It's like writing a book; you must think about your reader in the writing process. How does it connect? Is it relatable? Is it entertaining, etc? A celebrity can't be a celebrity without fans. I believe branding yourself is crucial in anything you do to get people involved with your vision and or product.
I love the description box that lists out all the gear used to make this video
Excellent and helpful video. I loved his clear message about a hobby vs. a profession. Professionals understand that film is still a marketplace and they should understand how to function well within it!
Information of this kind is really helpful to us aspiring filmmakers. As we are also making short films via a smartphone only so good to know about what to do next.
I hear you on that! The current times have made it challenging for artists to find the best way to promote their work. We just uploaded a new trailer for our piece. Check it out: ruclips.net/video/GxB9zhQuNQo/видео.html
I have a different point of view. The logic of the industry is profit driven. Most of the times great concepts and ideas do not fit into the profit logic. I think the right value should be assigned to works outside the industry.
it depends. For the whole industry to work at all money is necessary and thats only achieved when enough people have seen it and payed for it. There are great filmmakers inside and outside the industry, the logic of the industry its not just profit driven, is quality seeking too because people wont pay whant utter shit. They both need each other, so instead of demonizing it why not find a way to make the industry better.
You can't make a movie without money so any movie need to fit into the profit logic. Some conceptual movies has this profit goal harder but you have to figure it out, there's always a way to sell or market a weird product/movie
Awesome video. Keep up the good work here!
Do you think a filmmaker should have their own brand?
I think style and brand are synonymous. With a person like Ben, coming from the ad world, he would tend to use the word brand instead of style. And vice versa for people who came from film school or worked their way up through the film business side.
So the answer is yes. Also, I do agree one should know their demographic before starting a project.
Wow. This was so revelatory.
Awesome explanation!
Good stuff 👏🏽
Roger Deakins is a brand and he and his wife market accordingly, IMHO. Our work is our calling card, I reckon, and it represents our brand, I suppose.
So how do we go about marketing our screenplays ?
Thanks!
It’s my one thing I am good at so far in my thirties
I might expand to television production
As well as video games industry
Correction I might go to the television industry in the 2040s to be precise similarly how television got their start in the 1940s ad
I will market my films to teenagers one of these days at first I think
In these days I can only write an eight minute long movie so wait until next decade….
👍
very much a leading question there.
0:53 What's wrong with it?
Disney Strange world is marketed towards LGBT
This guy just got away with saying a whole lotta nothin.
No no no. I promise.
henry y ?
this guy is might have good info but his delivery isn't engaging . How are you going to speak to filmmakers about marketing but you're not even marketing yourself right.
