Ditch that UGLY Horn and Relocate the Coil on your Dyna!!!

- In this video I show how to hide the horn and relocate the coil between the cylinder heads on a Harley Davidson Dyna.
This eliminates the ugly horn found on most Harleys and cleans up the look of the bike.
I would have gotten longer wires and relocated the horn to the top of your helmet.
that "big ugly cow bell horn" is Harley Iconic. I have installed dummy cow bells on bike without one because they always seem to be missing something. IMO.
Awesome video, makes the left side of the bike so much cleaner.
Just getting around to doing this on my FXDB tonight. Loving it. Thanks again Chainsaw🤘
As a mechanic the thing i dont like about this is moving the coils close to the cylinders. They get awfully hot and those coils may not be designed to handle that kind of thermal stress.
The coil gets hot in its stock location and blocks air to the rear cylinder. This setup won't hurt the coil, and will cool the rear cylinder by about 10°.
@nunya business but certainly no worse than the cowbell
Check out any Yamaha Virago out there, they all carry the coils OVER the cylinders. From the smallest to the biggest bikes.
I like watching your videos man. You give me a lot of ideas.
Nice clear video. Many thanks. The bike sure looks much better!
GCR man I think this is a great looking mod I'm doing my Dyna to. Can't believe how many people are bitching about it. Ride on.
Under the seat is not a good place for the horn. If they don't see you, and don't hear your pipes. They surely won't hear the horn under the seat.
I relocated my horn to the top, front of the frame below the neck. It's almost out of sight, and sounds louder than the original location.
I use the cowbell as an ashtray.
Relocate horn to the garbage can
Yell load & flip the bird who needs a horn
Why would you want to relocate the coil? Just leave it where it's at or replace it with an Accel coil (More gooder juice). Now take the old horn off along with the bracket and chuck it as far as you can into the swamp. Then go find yourself an old Harley Service Car and take that horn and mount it to the frame above the oil filter on the Wide Glide. Can't see it and it sounds great! Good luck and Happy Motoring!
now you got a coil there instead.and a pretty useless horn
Excellent Video man. Especially nice since our Dynas shake so hard being rubber mount and with the factory chrome bell it exaggerates even more. Plus I bet cooling is slightly better with it off the jugs. Plus symettrical shorter coils on plugs
Thanks wapartist. Yep, I like the symmetry. This is definitely one of the best modifications I've made to my Dyna. Arlen Ness makes a billet coil cover that I'm planning to pick up... that'll finish it off nicely.
@@GraniteCityRiders couldn't you just use the horn cover to cover the relocated coil lol
Cowbell horns are cool. I miss them on the big twins.
Whats the point of moving the horn if youre going to put the coil in the exact same spot? I just want to move or delete the horn and keep coil where it is
What kind of bars are those? Love the sweep on them? Is that standard sweep or is yours more swept than usual buffalo bars?
If they don't hear your pipes.. They are not going to hear that goofy horn
How long are the two new plugs wires when you move the coil?
Amen and bless that H-D clean-up mod. That old horn cover came out during the Vietnam War! And H-D has kept sticking it in the same place, which does not help the looks on the left side. The afterthought coil placement and long plug wires don't help. In short, a mess.
Amen Brucifer Guf
Looks really good without that ugly toot hanging out!
I relocated the horn on my streetbob for 24 bucks. Just bought the low rider s horn that mounts above the voltage regulator.
Regardless the look of the motorcycle, is good to have these videos in order to have more knowledge about our motorcycles! By the way, the motorcycle used for this video, has an EFI system or carb? What year is the motorcycle? Nice videos!!
Nice! Where’d you get those handlebars from?
Wish yall made more videos, they're well done.
Thanks Taz. More videos are on the way...
Love this thank you!!
Thanks for watching Jason
That does look a lot better! You may want to get longer plug wires though. There appears to be quite a bit of tension on them.
The wires are just the right length. If they were any longer it would look weird
Where did you get that derby cover!?
Everything you just did you could have done out of pocket for next to nothing. Toss that horn in the trash its nothing but a false sense of false hope.
The engine mount is easy to cut and smooth with a grinder. IOW cut the bracket for the horn off. Keep the coil in stock position and its really a clean look.
DobermansRock I totally agree.
Good thing it was an Arlen Ness product. Kuryfuckin will bust the bank with even shittier parts.
The add below the video states $197 for their relocation bracket. I can buy a grinder and a lot of wheels for that much money. Running a Harley that is not stock. Putting my coils on my engine would be like jumping in water for a breath of fresh air. Just what I need. Put them in a place that vibrates more and is hotter.
It don't work no more but, it sure looks good parked in the garage. Fucking hood ornaments is all 80% of Harley riders are. They don't work on their bikes, they own more shit that says Harley on it than they have miles or trips. If their bike quits they won't know why they just call AAA and let the dealership put gas in it for them. If they do work on their bike they added a fucking valve stem cap or some crap like this. Then invite all their dumb shit friends over to drink beer and admire the new knick knack.
Bunch of rich old guys who want to go play badass for the weekend. The dealerships bore me, the new bikes suck, the Dyna is gone right when they became the bike to want for the misguided masses, If you order a part at the dealer they charge shipping, I think their customer lounge is bigger than the shop. Its bust man. They stacked their walls full of shit made in Taiwan, used up too much floor space on clothes racks, have enough shit to fill a house to the roof with Harley logos. Yet where are the serious bikers who don't want chrome and leather? At home making the shit they need.
That was me DobermansRock. I got my 09 superglide and all the previous owner had done was put 120 dollars with of corny foot pegs and V&H Side Shots with no intake or tune. I put new bars on the bike, and when I was putting in the clutch extension, I found transmission fluid that was the consistency and color of melting earwax jello. This poor thing had been abused. I installed everything, bleed the front break, and then made my own cable extension for the stock speedo clamp to use it at the top of my 13 inch t-bars. I absolutely love it and I did it all in my apartment garage with my buddy haha.
@@DobermansRock Relocating the coil opens up the space behind the rear cylinder for better cooling and it won't hurt the coil.
nice video bud!.. shame you don't work on FXRs and shame i don't ride a dyna!
Worse thing fell off mine was the kickst....jiffy stand. Had to lean it up against a wall for a few days. Did find it and used red loctite this time.
I like your Van halen shirt.
Who makes the seat?
Next you should do a video on ditching those ugly t bars
for me the horn look better than the coil
I dissagree, I think it looks worse now, also would have been nice to hear the horn before and after the relocation....for comparison. To each his own, thats the beauty of being able to do up your bike the way you like it. I replaced the cowbell with a scull.
Ride safe.
Relocating the coil is more than just a visual mod. It cools the rear cylinder about 10° by opening up that space behind the engine.
Yeah it does
where did you get the derby cover?
customderbycover.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=943
The song just needs more cowbell!
Oh come on that's funny!
I was riding down the road about 20 years ago when the horn fell off my 85 Electra Glide. it bounced and broke some guys windshield. I bought a car horn and installed it under my seat. I hardly ever use it though it's more for registering my disapproval over another driver's lack of respect
Looks so much better after. To bad dk doesn’t make a kit for my 95 Springer softail. Guess I’ll have to fab one up myself
Nice brother. Not as easy as ordering one... but well worth it!
Hey look at that, you removed a bulbous thing and replaced it with another bulbous thing. Way to go.
Thats a sexy dyna.... whats year and model is it?????
Relocating a plastic ugly coil is so much better looking than having a horn that can be covered...
nice t shirt my man
I relocated my horn inside my Rt fairing and moved my coil behind the chrome cover that covers the horn so everything is hidden!! 🙂
I don't think it looks any better and horn is useless if you can't hear it better then that I have a 2017 street bob they look better stock then the one your messing up but to each their own
Can you post a link where you got the kit. I want to loose the horn on my Dyna, this looks like an easy enough project. And thanks for the vids. Just subb'd
Thanks Vincent. You can buy the kit direct from DK Customs:
www.dkcustomproducts.com
They make great products and they have great customer service.
What kit is this?
This is the kit I used:

Baton Rouge Louisiana, I have a 97 Dyna lowrider, however I figured I would learn this for my dumb ass friends with them high tech bikes, lol
LMFAO..🤣🤣 bra.. ur gonna honk @ some 1 n their gonna think u farted..
I've never used my horn....lol
I use mine way more than I should have to. Riding in my area is like playing frogger.
Rolled up towel. Not wood. Smh
FXR did it right from the start
Cool in theory I guess unless you dont consider the horn "ugly" my wife always points to mine and says SHINY lol since its the only thing chrome on that side of the bike
The coil looks like shit there too.
Horn, what Horn? If your Horn can actually be heard, you’re running the wrong pipes.
I like my horn
Just get loud pipes brah! Works more effectively with me.
I dont think that someone in a car is going to be able to hear that horn on the highway at 65 mph, over the roaring of the HD engine, just saying.
Lol
The coil looks much uglier on the side of the engine than the horn did "/
He effectively made a motorcycle fart machine.
Move the coil from an area that has vibration to a area that has a lot more vibration in heat.??? I could cut your plug wires or rip them off a whole lot easier. ??? The horn under the seat where you get a new buzzing feel in your balls. !!!! I would put the horn in the front on the frame rails and try to hide the coils under the tank or over the heads where they can't be seen. ???
Yeah, the horn on the frame is a good choice... I just wanted to hide it all together. In fact the DK Customs kit comes with what you need to do this.
The coil location must not be too bad... Harley made this the stock location on the new Street Bob and several of the new Softails...
Dyna guys are too much. I'm doing this to get better airflow across the rear cylinder, not to get rid of the ugly horn. Lol
More zip ties
I want to add a train horn. Just sayin.
Trade a cow bell for a ugly coil seems like a waste of money. Get more creative and just don’t spend money..
Looks worse like that
That is worse than the horn in my opinion
This is stupid. The bike is loud, the horn isn’t that great and then you muffle the sound with your seat? WOW!! I guess there is no need for a helmet, gloves or shoes on your feet too.
No. Still looks ugly, personal taste.
Still looks like a Harley, I.E... crap.
$40 total horny Sporty upgrade: Hope this his description is clear as mud. I went to Hm D big box to purchase: a)2 bolts 1" x 5/16 course thread;? b) 1 blk powdercoated Simpson bracket #APL4 (90 degree but mounted as V shaped w 2 ornate bell ends) c)ebay Hella 2 tone horn set; d) Ebay horn wiring relay that bring 12v from battery to horn contacts still using HD wiring for switch.
