For a simple video you can edit to the music, You are almost free to do what you want . But for a film you have a storyboard to follow for the editing then add the music, SFX etc..

I probably don't need to tell you this but with a keyboard the spread triads are way easier and you can easily cover 2 - 2 1/2 octaves while holding the bass note. I'm not sure Allan Holdsworth could (have) played that. :) What i'm saying is don't feel too bad.

Hey Guy your videos and courses are great, so thanks and well done.
I have a singing bowl and use a small leather covered beater that came with it, the idea is to cradle the bowl in your hand and hit a note. You then sustain the note by circling the beater on the outside of the bowl, keeping slight contact. Similar to getting the note from a wine glass. A lovely sound when slowed down too.

Good stuff, Guy! I also like working without a click. Cubase is great in that you can use the Warp tool to move the bar/beat lines of the grid around to adjust them to your performance in order to make musical sense. (Just make sure you use the plain Warp Grid mode - NOT the "musical events follow" version - otherwise you'll drag your performance all out of shape.) Then, editing in the Score editor or, better still, exporting to Dorico/Sibelius/Finale makes so much more sense and make preparing parts for "real" players much easier!

In this video Guy starts with a traditional approach then the homemade approach and ends with using artificial prerecorded sounds like the orchestral and electronic sound libraries he already has on deck. One could also do this in the reverse. Start by messing with presets and dohickeys in a software program, but then once you have a good idea what you want, go out into the world and get unique home made sounds that will accomplish the same thing. Then bring it back into the studio and put everything together in a more traditional way. This way you use the libraries to make all the mistakes and hone in on what the project needs, then you build your own never before heard library so the end result is more you.

Not arguing with the results, but the singing bowl is played in much the same way as a finger around the glass. There's a leather wrapped beater which is placed inside the bowl and moved in a constant circle on the inside edge of the rim. You can do it on the outside, but it's much harder to keep a constant pressure and therefore tone. Sorry - sorta winced when you just hit it :)
