A pro-tip is to drop your meatballs in boiling broth (hope that's the word). When the float to the surface they are ready to go to the frying pan. This is a real time saver if you are making a lot of meatballs.
@@Skubbes technically, boiling them on broth is called making frikadeller. But when you fry them afterwards it's practically fried meatballs. Try it and see if you like it 😊 It is faster and easier to boil them first if you need to make a lot of them.
So, the question arises: Did the Swedes invent their meatballs independently, or did they adopt the recipe from Turkish cuisine? Well, it's difficult to say for sure. One theory suggests that Swedish King Charles XII, who spent some time in Turkey during the early 18th century, may have brought back the concept of meatballs to Sweden. Maybe he enjoyed those delicious Turkish köfte so much that he wanted to recreate them in his homeland.
@angeltruth4311 köfte and swedish meatballs only have two similarities. Meat and balls. The rest of the ingredients have no similarity. In fact, Italian meatballs are very close to köfte. And the story about the king is not 100% true. No document shows his interest of meatballs at all. The recipe for meatballs date back to before his time even in the 1600s and the modern recipe first arrived once we got stove tops in the 1800s so we could finally fry the meatballs
@@resorband That's an interesting observation! While köfte and Swedish meatballs do share the common elements of meat and being shaped into balls, it's true that the rest of their ingredients may differ. It's also worth noting that Italian meatballs have similarities to köfte as well. Additionally, the story about the king's interest in meatballs may be more of a legend than a proven fact, as there are no documented records supporting it. The history of meatballs goes back even before the king's time, dating back to the 1600s. The modern recipe for meatballs developed further with the introduction of stove tops in the 1800s, allowing for the frying of meatballs. Thank you for sharing these insights!
IKEA serves the meatballs with the sauce. I really like the IKEA meatballs and gravy. I buy a frozen package to take home when I shop at IKEA. They have both traditional and chicken. I live in the USA.
@@mrxman581 ye with the sauce, u dont cook them in the sauce. U plate it with the sauce And the ikea version is realy bad in comparison with doing it properly Its like comparing McDonalds with a real burger
In Kannada it is called "Kaima Undey Saar" (ಕೈಮಾ ಉಂಡೆ ಸಾರ್) , slightly different , all south Indian spices and tender coconut pulp instead of cream. It's delicious.
Just use some cream or milk. No need for sourcream or cream cheese. Swedish meatballs are served with pickled cucumber and lingonberries for some acidity, the sauce is just a savory deal and often has a dash of dark soy sauce in it, just for a more brown colour. At home, not everyone uses flour to make a roux, its optional and just depends on how you like it. Some prefer to not have a fatty and savory sauce with their meatballs. Source: I am actually Swedish, tons of comments here are saying stuff I have no idea where they got it from.
You can, but you might want to add in a little bit of some kind of fat, as pure beef meatball easily turns out dry, Alternatively, substitute pork with some other grund meat, though if that is lean again a bit of added fat source might improve the end results!
@@Kally1847 well, then you don't do a lot of cooking yourself. The parsley and garlic is more akin to Italian meatballs than swedish. Same goes for the Worcestershire sauce that some fake recipes use on here which isn't used traditionally either, only soy sauce.

No
is that to get the centre cooked and then just fry to get colour? cause that sounds like a good idea

Yeah, meatballs have to have an egg.
A real Swedish person would keep the meatballs and the sauce separate
🙄
You have a nice clean video, but one thing I wish more people would do is have a list of ingredients and proportions at the end of the video
