Yeah Tom I am like Johnukes3974 the armrest needs to be pre-drilled. It should be where all I have to do is place the armrest in then line it up, mark my holes remove armrest then drill. Perfect drilling every time.
Another great video. My arm rests were just free floating wedged in next to the rail and the seat. I never thought about bolting them from the seat into the arm rest. Thanks for the video.
Glad this video showed you some options for attaching yours. We’d usually at least screw them into the deck if wedged in a corner…better to be safe and secure!!
The armrests should come pre-drilled. If you drill from the seat base into the armrests, how do you avoid the ribs in the plastic grate? I used a right angle drill from the armrests into the base. I drilled in the middle of the top large square so there was room for the bolt head or wing nut.
I definitely prefer mounting these arm rests into a corner for stability. If I hit the grate I will usually just swap for a longer bolt, even a 3.5” deck bolt sometimes. It’s sort of a “let’s make this work” scenario because they’re so nice to have for comfort and the cup holders for drinks, phones, etc.
I install my arm rest in the same manner you do but I also add one more machine screw at the top through the top rail off set from the cup holder, that way it’s very secure. With that, the sofa seat backs are secured with studs, washers and wing nuts but they will still move front to back a tad bit no matter how tight the hardware is. My question, can they be secured to the lower (mid) rail, that way there’s no chance of puncturing through the seat and into a person who falls hard into the seat back? My rails are 1 1/8” across so I was considering a 1 1/4” #10 or #12 stainless sheet metal screw, as there is no way to secure the seat back already upholstered. My Crest came from the factory securing items through the rail, like the helm and a few other things and that really stiffens up the railing as well as furniture, helm etc..
The Deckmate seats can take a screw through the railing into the seat back where there’s a solid polymer backing. Obviously the screw has to be long enough to grab the backing and short enough to not be felt through the cushion. I’ve had luck with using a #10 screw with finish washer for seats and arm rests alike when needed! For 1 1/4” square tube railings I use a 2” long screw.
I’ve seen it done and it worked, BUT I would prefer to build a vinyl wrapped box for that. It would be easier to install the controls and access if needing to troubleshoot.

I know they’re always working to improve their seating and products, so there’s probably a new design in the works already!

Very informative, as usual. Short and detailed.
Thanks!! Hope this video helps lots of folks installing these arm rests!!

Hey Tom! Do you think one of these armrests would work well for mounting a console mount remote throttle next to the small console?
